Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Petersmillard. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Unicirc, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 16:34, 8 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

I have no conflict of interest. I am an independent epidemiologist. Here is the statement on the following article: http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0157065

"The authors received no specific funding for this work, did not/do not serve as employees or consultants, and have no financial interest in this product or any marketed products or products in development. The authors have no competing interests, defined as anything that interferes with, or could reasonably be perceived as interfering with, the full and objective presentation, peer review, editorial decision-making, or publication of research or non-research articles. No competing interests, financial or non-financial, professional, or personal, exist. No competing interests exist in relationship to an organization or another person."

Simunye Primary Healthcare funded your study, and they're the makers of Unicirc. How is this not a conflict of interest? Stix1776 (talk) 17:05, 29 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of User:Petersmillard

edit

A tag has been placed on User:Petersmillard requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free Web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Contested deletion

edit

This page should not be speedily deleted because... (your reason here) --Petersmillard (talk) 21:27, 14 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

I don't have any idea what motivated this. Perhaps it is because I included links to 2 of my recent publications. I have removed the links. Any other directions about what is inappropriate would be much appreciated.

It reads like a faux article because of the way it is written. Theroadislong (talk) 21:37, 14 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Gosh. I don't know what that means. I used James Heilman's user page as a guide.

User:James Heilman's page uses the first person whereas yours uses "he" instead of "I" which makes it read like an article about you rather than a user page...sorry to be a pedant. Theroadislong (talk) 21:55, 14 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Here is James' article. I must be missing something. Please advise

"James M. "Doc James" Heilman is a Canadian emergency room physician, Wikipedian, and advocate for the improvement of Wikipedia's health-related content. He encourages other clinicians to contribute to the online encyclopaedia.[2][3]

He is an active contributor to WikiProject Medicine, is a volunteer Wikipedia administrator, was the president of Wikimedia Canada between 2010 and 2013, and founded and was formerly the president of Wiki Project Med Foundation.[4][5][6][7][8] He is also the founder of WikiProject Medicine's Medicine Translation Task Force.[9] In June 2015, he was elected to the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees, a position which he held until he was removed on December 28, 2015.[10][11][12]

Heilman is a clinical assistant professor at the department of emergency medicine at the University of British Columbia,[13][14] and the head of the department of emergency medicine at East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook, British Columbia, where he lives.[1][2] He often works the night shift in the emergency room at East Kootenay Regional Hospital.[14]

James Heilman is NOT a user page though? It's an article about him. Theroadislong (talk) 22:10, 14 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

I had no idea. Please be so kind as to delete my user page.

It just needs re-writing in the first person like User:Doc James's page. Theroadislong (talk) 22:39, 14 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

ok

Thank you for making the changes. Your user page is for sharing information about you as a Wikipedia editor. A limited amount of biographical material about yourself outside Wikipedia is allowed, but it may not be anything resembling a Wikipedia article. Theroadislong (talk) 22:50, 14 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! I'm learning a lot.

  Hello Petersmillard, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Gomco clamp have been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 23:19, 14 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

I have removed a large amount of copyright material from your draft Draft:Circumcision Surgical Instruments and Devices. Copyright material cannot be posted anywhere on this wiki, including in draft space or sandboxes. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 01:13, 15 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Circumcision surgical procedure, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ligature. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

edit

  Thank you for your contributions. Please mark your edits, such as your recent edits to Circumcision and HIV, as "minor" only if they are minor edits. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Minor edits consist of things such as typographical corrections, formatting changes or rearrangement of text without modification of content. Additionally, the reversion of clear-cut vandalism and test edits may be labeled "minor". Thank you. Alexbrn (talk) 16:22, 17 June 2017 (UTC) Thank you! I appreciate the help. Still learning. Hi Petersmillard (new section)

Thanks for calling my attention to the redundant wikification of primary intention and secondary intention. I was aware of the rule, but I did not realize that those pages had been linked in another part of the rather long article. That was an oversight on my part. I have deleted those redundant links.

Thanks again.

Removing editor comments

edit

  Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Talk:Circumcision and HIV, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear to be constructive and has been reverted. If you only meant to make a test edit, please use your sandbox for that. Thank you. Prcc27 (talk) 15:43, 17 August 2020 (UTC) @Prcc27. Sorry you lost me on that one. Did I remove content from a talk page? Petersmillard (talk) 18:20, 17 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Bizarre. I assure you it wasn't intentional. Petersmillard (talk) 20:22, 18 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Just a note that per MOS:LISTGAP the beginning set of "indent symbols" (ex: asterisks or colons) should not be changed, nor should empty lines be left between comments in a list, for accessibility reasons. I've fixed your comments on the talk page, but please do your best to comply with the recommendations in the MOS guideline as it will ensure those who use screen readers or other assistive devices are not inconvenienced trying to "read" the discussion on the talk page. I've fixed it for now though. -bɜ:ʳkənhɪmez (User/say hi!) 14:38, 3 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Since you tie your real name to your Wikipedia profile, an NPOV sanction could be professionally embarrassing

edit

I'm looking on your edits, and you edit a lot of circumcision. I'm not here to complain about your edits, but rather your use of your actual name on Wikipedia. It's one thing for red_dragon371 to get a community ban, but in you're case, complaints on Wikipedia might make it to the real world. I'd recommend using a more anonymous nickname. Stix1776 (talk) 02:42, 30 May 2021 (UTC) Thanks. I appreciate the advice. I had not thought of that, but don't plan on getting any NPOV. Can you please respond to my talk page query?
