Like my post on your talk page about the deletion said: "please contact the administrator who deleted the page or use deletion review". I have nothing to do with deletion other than marking the article, it is up to an admin to actualy delete it. The reason I marked it as CSD A7 is because, at the time, there were no references in the article meaning that the claims to notability were not credible. PhantomTech (talk) 20:13, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Unreferenced doesn't necessarily mean not credible: for unreferenced articles, it's best to hunt for a reference (took me less than a minute to find one) or if you can't find one after a reasonable search, then use WP:BLPPROD instead. Thanks, Altered Walter (talk) 20:17, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Related to CSD A7

Just wondering what exactly is considered a "credible claim" under CSD A7? I was wondering because WP:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#A7 says that it doesn't require a reliable source. PhantomTech (talk) 03:57, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

For an article to be deleted under CSD:A7 there needs to be something saying why the subject is important, to a third party. For example: "Bill (born 3 July 1963) is a graduate of XYZ University" would be deleted under A7, but this isn't likely to be deleted: "Bill (born 3 July 1963) is a graduate of XYZ University. Bill was awarded with the universities' highest honour, one of only 5 people in history to receive the award." In this example, graduating is undoubtedly notable to the individual, but from Wikipedia's perspective, thousands of people graduate every year, so it is significantly less notable. The claim to significance would be the award. It could be an outright lie, but its still a claim, so A7 would not suit, G3 might if it's a lie/hoax. Thanks but if the information about notability is unreferenced where is the line between a credible claim (Bill graduated with university's highest honor, somthing that is possible) and an uncredible one (Bill created the idea of a university, notable if it were true but is obvious hoax). Im wondering about the definition of "credible" since the claim to notability has to be credible. If there is a new unreferenced article about a person it will either be marked BLP PROD (if it makes a "credible claim" to the persons notability), A7 (if it makes an "uncredible" claim or no claim at all), or G3 (if its obviously a lie/hoax). So what im asking is, what is an "uncredible" claim? I hope that makes sense PhantomTech (talk) 21:07, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Hmm I guess I haven't really thought about it much, and probably most of the pages I tag with A7 I would consider having no claim as opposed to an uncredible one - either that or it has a claim, but that still isn't very credible or important - so I guess that would be uncredible, ie. Bill graduated, he could tie his shoes the quickest out of everyone. The best thing I would do is look at everything on a case by case basis and if it is in a grey area in between, then forget CSD and use AfD. Like Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dan Williams (rapper), I was almost certain it was a hoax, and AfD confirmed, no harm done. -- Patchy1 REF THIS BLP 02:45, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Deleting Warnings on talk page

Someone that I warned using a WP:WARN removed the warning from their talk page as soon as they saw it (delete, not archive). I didn't do anything about it because Im not sure what the policy on it is, I know it is their talk page but I also know that those warnings are used for helping other editors/admins look at their recent history without having to check through all the logs. Could someone link me to a policy about this or give me some advice? PhantomTech (talk) 02:18, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

The policy on that is generally to not worry about it - unless it's a block template. It's always in the page history, like you said - although it is a bit inconvenient. The nice thing however is that the user removing the warnings is proof that they read them. Got rid of the WP:Maintenance tags that don't need to be there, fixed some stuff and moved the page to fit in with a WP:Disambiguation page that already existed. The ~~~~ (shift version of key next to '1' on U.S. keyboards pressed 4 times) is automaticaly replaced by your signature, try testing it out along with any other editing stuff you dont completely understand in WP:Sandbox. Hello PhantomTech. Thanks for patrolling new pages – it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know however, regarding Sarah Marie Vegliante, that tagging articles for speedy deletion moments after creation as lacking context (CSD A1), content (CSD A3) and articles created through the Article Wizard, is too fast. It's best to wait at least 10–15 minutes for more content to be added if the page is very short, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), copyright violations (G12) and pure vandalism/blatant hoaxes (G3) should of course be tagged and deleted immediately. Thanks. Articles for Creation Redirects

I found some redirects in mainspace that look like Articles for creation/(articlename) that redirect to whatever (articlename) is. I don't know much about the AfC process but should those redirect pages be speedy deleted or deleted some other way? or are they part of the process? And is there any place that I can search for the results of AfC for a specific article? For example, if I wanted to find out how many times someone tried to make FakeArticle with AfC and what the most recent result was. PhantomTech (talk) 23:12, 5 February 2013 (UTC)

Such redirects should probably be deleted. I've nominated Articles for creation/Cbazaar and Articles for creation/Mark Peters (sport administrator) for speedy deletion under criterion G6. They seem to be relics of accidents during article creation. If you're aware of any others, please also tag them for deletion.

Regarding the search for AfC results, that's tricky because sometimes editors create multiple drafts about the same topic under different names, and even a single draft's review templates may sometimes be removed, making it rather difficult to ascertain how often a topic has been declined. The draft on "FakeArticle" should be at WT:Articles for creation/FakeArticle, and the page history would probably be the easiest way to make sure the number of review templates on the page indeed corresponds to all reviews that draft has been subject to. You might also try searching the User: and Wikipedia talk: namespaces for "FakeArticle" to make sure you find any additional drafts about the topic either at AfC or in user sandboxes. However, given the creativity of users attempting to create articles, even that isn't guaranteed to find all drafts on a given topic (or conversely the search may produce so many false positives that it's useless). You might want to put articles you are working on in your userspace till they are done. Please use the "Contest Deletion" button on the article instead of posting on a talk page since admins will probably not check talk pages when reviewing the request. I just wanted to let you know that I declined your AIV request on User:79.136.70.191. The information that the user removed appeared to be entirely unsourced. While unsourced information does not have to be removed, it can be, per WP:V (with some exceptions). So, a good next step would be to start a talk page discussion on the matter. The illuminati shot Michael Brown to start a race war. They are the terrorist organization pretending to be Knights Templar Crusaders, fucking I mean fighting Israel. They also did 9/11, and will do much more. They are a decentralized group, but are centrally ideologically corrupt or fanatic. @Darth Stabro: I did look at the change, I saw a citation used throughout the article and that the change had no edit summary. Based on that I assumed that it was being removed by someone with a WP:COI, the page is protected after all. Poor grammar alone is not a reason to assume something without an edit summary is being deleted because of it, see WP:FIES. Halstead Place edit.

Hello, Phantomtech. You recently left a comment on my page concerning the removal of information on the Halstead Place article. Sorry about that. Someone incorrectly redirected the page to Halstead, England. Halstead Place was the name of an historic home in Ocean Springs, Mississippi that was tragically destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. I was going to add the information when I was finished with my research. I guess I'll go ahead and add what I have to the page, but I don't really have any sources yet. Reversed change on Florence Arthaud

Hi!

I appreciate you trying to keep things ok on wikipedia, but in my opinion my change was legit. And at that time it was not the page of a living person any longer. It was even written down in the page, I just completed the life and death dates. @Florentchevallier: I checked the article and the death is now sourced so your change was unquestionably made in good faith, however, Wikipedia's biography of living persons policy also applies to recently deceased people so your change would still have had to have been sourced. WP:NOENG allows the use of non-English sources when an English source is not available so feel free to use them in similar situations in the future. I checked and, like you said, the page did already list her death which would also fall under the BLP policy however I was using Huggle which only shows me the changes on page. Additionally, the content was not suitable for inclusion in the article, imagine if every video game that has birch trees was mentioned in the article. CSD criterion for spam sandbox

Thanks for your report on Ashfaq Mohamed at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. In your report, you wrote "once they're blocked please let me know what CSD criteria (if any) that page would fall under, incase I encounter it in the future" (referring to the user sandbox page). It certainly fell under G11 (advertising or promotion), as the page was clearly there to promote a campaign, and I would also have accepted U5 (misuse of Wikipedia as a web host), as it clearly consisted of "writings ... not closely related to Wikipedia's goals, where the owner has made few or no edits outside of userspace". The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 16:48, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

An admin says her page does not meet the WP:PORNBIO criteria but yet when I look at other porn actresses pages they don't meet those criteria either. The process seems so arbitrary and subjective. @Ncmikie: Articles on Wikipedia must meet Wikipedia's notability criteria. For a porn actress, the subject must meet the criteria in any of the following: WP:GNG, WP:BASIC, WP:ENT or WP:PORNSTAR. If a page you create is tagged for speedy deletion and you feel the reason for deletion is invalid you should click the button that says "Contest deletion" and explain why you think so. If you feel a page you have created meets the notability guidelines but was deleted anyway you should ask the admin who deleted it why they deleted it. If, after the admin's reply, you still don't understand why it was deleted, you can ask them for more clarification. If you disagree with their decision you can take other dispute resolution steps. This is Special:AbuseLog/11785701. Regardless of the content of the link, is it really desirable that our filters prevent the addition of YouTube links to userspace? Without having looked at the video, I can't say whether it's spam or otherwise inappropriate (of course I can imagine that it might be), but the filter can't make that kind of determination, so I assume that this edit would have been prevented regardless of the video's content. There's nothing necessarily wrong with a YouTube link in userspace. Nyttend (talk) 11:46, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

@Nyttend: You're right, it isn't necessarily a bad thing to have a YouTube video in your user space. I'm not sure (don't have the abusefilter permission so I can't check) but I assume that the filter doesn't block people who are autoconfirmed. If the filter was intended to block user space links also then I assume it was done because a lot of the videos being added were being added in a problematic way, if that's not the case it might be a good idea to change the filter to only warn anyone that's not autoconfirmed about WP:COI and WP:PROMO who tries to post a link. @Desbien: The statement was not made in relation to the reason for deletion of your page. It was made because of the recent warnings you received telling you just that. Deletion logs for the page indicate that it was last created this month, combined with checkuser evidence and the warnings on your page, it is highly unlikely that you were not editing Wikipedia recently. WP:DTTR applies here, especially since this warning has no information in it that is useful in this case, but it would also be good to get rid of "Welcome to Wikipedia" in warning templates, because even for inexperienced users it can be inappropriate. • I don't agree, in fact I think that WP:TTR applies much more here. Anyways, this was the most accurate warning template I'm aware of. Making edits to a template with over 11K transclusions without a discussion and consensus is extremely disruptive and puts the person doing so at risk of being blocked. I thought it would be fair to warn this user that since it is such a highly transcluded template, BRD does not apply but instead WP:PINKLOCK rules apply. Hi Technical 13, thanks for the welcome, I haven't been welcomed since January 2013 and was beginning to think that no one cared. I'm not sure where you got the number in your edit summary from, my change restored the version of the template that existed prior to November 4 2014 and I doubt every single transclusion was updated since then. I'd also like to point out that my change did not break any templates that used the template as described in the docs, which have said the same thing since 2011. I encourage you to be more careful about your reverts, especially as a template editor, your changes can have big affects on Wikipedia and you wouldn't want to accidentally break something people are relying on. @Technical 13: I know where the number came from, I was wondering why you're assuming that all those transclusions happened or were updated between November 4, 2015 and today and why a change that

• Makes the template do what the docs say
• Fixes a problem that causes ##channel to take you to #channel or, if whoever made the transclusion tried to work around it, makes the link for ##channel look like ###channel
• Does not break any transclusions for single # channels, as long as the transclusion followed the docs (if it didn't, by the way, the link would read "##channel")

The changes that were made to this listing were made at the request of the club's current owner, who has worked for the venue since shortly after it opened. He wanted to update some listings of performers, correct information that wasn't accurate, and remove a negative piece of information that is not pertinent to the club's history. ORIGINAL History[edit] The building, located on York Street down the street from Ashley's Ice Cream and Blue State Coffee and across an alley from Mory's Temple Bar, was the original location of the Yale Co-op. During the 1960s, it was a popular restaurant called Hungry Charlie's and then the location of Caleb's Tavern. In 1974, Michael Spoerndle, formerly a student at the Culinary Institute of America, rented the building for a French and Italian restaurant, which opened in March 1975. He named it Toad's Place, after a childhood joke. He said, "When my parents were going out to dinner, they would tell me they were going to such-and-such, and I thought it would be funny if they said, 'We're going to Toad's Place.' Plus, people who didn't go out and stayed at home, we'd call them 'toads.' It was the equivalent of a couch potato."[1] In 1976, Spoerndle turned the restaurant into a live music venue,[2] working with a local musician named Peter Menta to bring in bands. Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and Koko Taylor were some of the first performers.[1] In 1976, Brian Phelps joined as manager and eventually co-owner. Phelps took control in 1995, after Spoerndle's numerous problems with alcohol and drug addiction.[2] Spoerndle died on May 6, 2011.[3][4] In 1983, a second location opened in Waterbury, Connecticut, although it lasted only three years. In 2007, a franchise location in Richmond, Virginia opened with a concert by the Squirrel Nut Zippers. It included a restaurant and club for up to 1,500 visitors.[5] The principal owner was Charles Joyner, a local physician who was a disc jockey at Toad's Place while he was a Yale undergraduate in the 1980s. On 9 March 2009, Toad's Place Richmond was closed.[6] All scheduled shows were canceled and/or moved to The National, another venue in Richmond. A third location was planned for Trenton, New Jersey.[7] Notable events[edit] A long wall inside the venue the names of the many famous artists to have played there On August 12, 1989, The Rolling Stones played a surprise hour-long concert for 700 people at Toad's Place. They had been rehearsing for the "Steel Wheels" tour for six weeks at the Wykeham Rise School, a girls' school in Washington, Connecticut that had closed earlier that year, and performed the concert as "a thank-you to Connecticut for the hospitality."[8] On January 12, 1990, Bob Dylan started a tour with a Toad's Place performance including four sets that lasted over five hours, his longest show to date. It was his first club performance in 25 years.[1] In July 1980, Billy Joel recorded the song Los Angelenos from his album Songs in the Attic at Toad's Place. Jeff Lorber, a jazz keyboardist, included an instrumental piece called Toad's Place on his album Water Sign.[7] U2 performed at Toad's Place three times between 1980-1981. Their first performance at Toad's Place was on December 14, 1980 during the second leg of the Boy tour. This was only their eighth tour date in North America. The band returned to Toad's Place on May 27, 1981, during the fourth leg of the Boy tour, and on November 15, 1981, during the second leg of the October tour. This means that all press, good or bad, should be included in an article. As long as a neutral point of view is observed it is just as acceptable (and encouraged) to list negative things as it is to list positive things. It would be cool if you could make it instead say things like:

The current behavior is useful, but my proposed behavior would be even more useful. That way people (such as myself) who really only hate spam articles about one type of entity (such as corporations only, or such as musical groups only) could more easily skim the report and decide which links to click.

@Unforgettableid: The reason revision numbers instead of page names are used right now is in case there is a problem with the page name, for example, if it is an attack page. But, right now only recreates are checked though, and since it would be unlikely for an attack page to not be create protected when it was first deleted, I think I could make the change when I have time. • On line 11, is 'a' defined anywhere? also on line 10, that for loop won't exit, right? we just defined i and it doesn't have a length property.
• why are we counting underscores to determine if we fall through to offering colors?
• Why are we coercing that random number to a string on line 21? You can access array locations w/ a string e.g. array["1"] but they're not properties.
• why is there a check against nickChanged on line 24? We'll set it to true in either path before then.

@Protonk: Thanks for pointing out these issues. 'a' was a typo, I replaced it with 'i' and it looks like it was just skipping over the loop instead of never exiting but I've fixed that also. Underscores are counted to prevent a username that has a lot of non-latin characters from being given a nick similar to '______-WP32' or 'sa_____-WP21' which would be useless to helpers, it isn't the best method since it might be better to check for the percentage of the nick that is underscores so I'm thinking about replacing it with that. Fixed line 21. Removed nickChanged check on line 24, can't think of a reason for it to be there. @Technical 13: I fixed the nick length issue which cut off nicks one character too late and will look at the coding conventions for JavaScript. Thanks for fixing those. I think the nickChanged variable should be renamed or used differently, because it doesn't immediately express what's going on. For instance, if we mangle a username and insert 3 underscores, nickChanged is set to true, where if we change it more nickChanged is not set to true and we provide an alternate nickname based entirely on a poor man's guid (no judgment, that's just what it is. :)). The last if statement contains code that we want to run to completely replace the nick. We only want to run it if we don't have a meaningful nick to start with (anon users) or if our nick has changed so much as to require we not mangle things. My suggestion is just to put the creation of a whole new nick into a function and at line 20 invoke that function if the underscore count is over a certain threshold (rather than not doing it if it is under). That also means if you define the function early you can just do something like:

I have made several changes as to the post rank belonged in ABC history, stating that the book referred to alleged things that were not factually documented (with references) and replaced the above line with the fact that he has always been considered a Democrat.

@Deadpool100: I'd recommend starting a discussion on the article's talk page and notifying the user of the discussion with a talk page message, if after a few days no one gives a reason for why the information should not be there re-add it pointing to the discussion in the edit summary you use. Alternatively, since the other editor's problem seems to be with the source being YouTube, you could try to find a written source. The editor has not yet broken WP:3RR so administrator intervention is probably not required at this point. If they do not provide a valid reason the source cannot be used and continue to revert the addition, they will likely be considered to have violated edit warring policy even if they do not technically violate 3RR. AFCRHS.js in Category:Pages with templates in the wrong namespace

This is presumably due to any of several {{template names}} being parsed by the MediaWiki software as actual templates, but I haven't checked which one. The workaround is to split the offending string constant(s) into two or more concatenated strings, as you already did to prevent subst: from being parsed.

@Biblioworm: My oppose is about Cyberpower's response (here) to T13's actions and what the response says about Cyberpower's judgment of editors' intentions. Despite the multiple issues T13 has been involved in, including abuse of other tools, Cyberpower still trusts him with a level of control over xtools that allows T13, if he choses, to make (probably temporary) malicious changes to xtools which could quite easily harm editors. I don't think Cyberpower can reliably judge the intentions/competence of other editors accurately and this has the potential to cause issues anywhere they interact with editors as an administrator. Iceland national team

Hi,

Someone keeps reinserting content on the page for the Iceland national team that should be removed. More than 12 months have passed since these players were called up to the squad and that section should only list callups from the last 12 months. Please watch out for that instead. Please try to use accurate edit summaries with all your edits, especially ones which remove content that is not obvious vandalism. If your edits continue to be reverted, even when using edit summaries, try to reach out to the editor that reverts your edit as you did with me. If that doesn't resolve the issue, you can try other dispute resolution methods. You can also request the page be protected if it is being disruptively edited by multiple editors. Charge of the Light Brigade

Hi, you left a message on my talk page about my deletion of the "New Information" section of the Charge of the Light Brigade article. Apologies if I went about this the wrong way; but I did intentionally remove it.

This issue is problematic, because I am not in a position to replace the section, if it in fact deserves to be replaced (having no current access to the appropriate sources). But the section is plain wrong, and really shouldn't be there in its current form. The information which is claimed as "new information" from 2016 has in fact been well-known since 1854. (There is a reference provided to a Sunday Telegraph article, which I can't read since it is behind a paywall. I imagine that this article has been misinterpreted somehow, but cannot tell how.)

This part article stood out to me as obviously wrong when I read the article the other day. On reading the talk page, I saw that the error had been pointed out by user Khamba Tendal in a lengthy post from 2020, which had elicited no response. I judged it best simply to remove the section, and I added a note to the talk page to say that I had done this. (I realize now that I should have written an edit summary referring to the talk page for my reasons.)

I have no stake (or particular interest) in this topic, and will leave it to your judgement whether the section should remain or not. JBritnell (talk) 18:54, 26 June 2022 (UTC)

@JBritnell Hi, thank you for this message and for your contributions to Wikipedia, I've restored your changes. Please do use an edit summary in the future, especially when making big changes or removing content that isn't obvious vandalism.

I haven't looked heavily into if the section should be in the article or not but I did see that there does appear to have been an attempt at a discussion on the talk page and that you noted your changes there. While it's possible that another editor might still disagree with the change, my original reason for reverting it was that it was an unexplained removal of apparently cited information and that's no longer an issue as you have very much explained your reason. Hi, IP addresses can be shared by multiple users at once and the IP address you're using can change without notice. Here are the edits made by IP 42.0.6.251, as you can see, even if you yourself didn't do anything, someone using the same IP address you used when you left me your message did. This is completely normal and not something you should usually be worried about. You can avoid getting messages not related to your activities by using an account. I'm not sure that one source reporting on someone's claim of an anti-semitic rant is enough to justify saying that they are in fact an antisemite in the article. @Ged UK Hi, could you give me some clarification on these? The user appears to be using the pages to track the progress of a reality TV show. This edit, for example, appears to be adding new information to the page which is presumably original research. If it is original research, it cannot be used in an article and so would fall under Extensive writings and material on topics having virtually no chance whatsoever of being directly useful to the project, its community, or an encyclopedia article. (For example, in the latter case, because it is pure original research, is in complete disregard of reliable sources, or is clearly unencyclopedic for other clear reasons.) of WP:UP#GOALS as pure original research. The other criteria of U5 is that the user have little to no edits outside of userpages, this user has none despite editing these pages almost daily for 2 weeks. Can you help with declining drafts and moving those drafts?

While I was reverting the removed information about the episode lists of the English dubs of Crayon Shin-chan, I came to the realization that they're different enough of adaptions to be considered their own show, so I was wondering if you are willing to decline the drafts I made, so these can be edited until they fit those standards.
