Lalji Singh
Thanks Philg88 and Randykitty. I too noticed this. But the article on Lalji Singh was flagging with several notes and is writen in bad english. I am correcting the mistakes, expending and updating it with latest available information on web about him. Lalji Singh is known as Father of DNA Fingerprinting in India.
Instead of directly working on article, I am doing this in my user space to avoid mistakes in live environment. Hope it is OK. Educationtemple (talk) 21:55, 28 December 2014 (UTC)
- No problem. While you're improving the article I suggest that you get rid of the medal picture as it's not really relevant and just adds clutter. Best, Philg88 ♦talk 22:09, 28 December 2014 (UTC)
Sure...! Have a good day Philg88 Educationtemple (talk) 04:24, 29 December 2014 (UTC)
Dear Philg88, it is a long time we have not interacted! Hope your holidays were great! I have now completed the work on expansion, update and authentication of article on Lalji Singh in my userspace here.
Lalji is so vastly covered scientist of India that I had to spend time to really chose, which reference to use, since there were hundreds of references for every single fact highlighted in the article! I have written the references in the way @W.carter: taught me last month and the article is manually checked by me several times for even a smallest mistake! However, I would love if you could spare your few minutes on the article! I know that your few minutes will improves it thousand folds! Also please move it in place of main article on Lalji Singh which already exists.
If possible, I would also request you to please nominate the article for GA as well as DYK for the following:
"...that Lalji Singh is popularly known as the 'Father of DNA Fingerprinting' in India for his pioneering work on the development and establishment of Indigenous DNA Fingerprinting Technology in India"
You are free to change the phrase as appropriate.
Oh! It was great to work on the biography of living legend of Lalji Singh!! Hope to hearing from you soon! Kind regards.... Educationtemple (talk) 16:11, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
- Since I was also asked, I have left some notes at Educationtemple's talk page to start with. Cheers w.carter-Talk 18:43, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
Hello there! I am working with W.carter and will get back to you as soon as the article become almost perfect for the above tasks! Since W.carter is helping, it is bound to become perfect! Educationtemple (talk) 07:35, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Educationtemple: OK, no problem. With W.carter's guidance, I'm sure you'll do an excellent job. A few points to bear in mind. 1) There will have to be a history merge with the existing article in order to maintain the history and an audit trail of other editors' work. 2) Unless the merge increases the size of the article by 5x it will not qualify for DYK. 3) If you want a GA nomination, you will have to do it yourself-the way the process works is that the nominator responds to the issues raised by the reviewer. That should be enough to be going on with. Cheers, Philg88 ♦talk 08:10, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
Good to know these points! I checked and found that current live article on Lalji Singh is 7445 bytes. However, the article in my userspace is already 37542 bytes which is slightly more than 5x already. Thus, it may qualify for DYK after move + history merge etc. As for GA, I shall do it at my end and wait as usual for review by senior editors. Hope it will be successful for both DYK as well as GA. I would request you to please nominate it for DYK once it is completed. Rgds. Educationtemple (talk) 08:20, 16 January 2015 (UTC)

Lalji Singh, part II
Dear Philh88, we had now finished the article on Lalji Singh in my user space here. @W.carter: was with me through this journey and the article seems to be good now to the best of our knowledge. May I now request you to please have a look at it and after proofreading please move it over the main article Lalji Singh as per rules.
The new extended article is more than five fold bigger (43 thousand bytes compared to almost 7 thousands in old article). Could you please propose a DYK on this article as follows:
"...that Lalji Singh is popularly known as the 'Father of DNA Fingerprinting' in India for his pioneering work on the development and establishment of Indigenous DNA Fingerprinting Technology in India.
Once you are done, I shall propose it for GA review, however, it may also qualify for FA since I had been following several FA and I feel that the current article is nowhere less than many of them. Regards. Educationtemple (talk) 10:27, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Educationtemple: OK, history merge and move done. I will sort out the DYK tomorrow. And thanks to W.carter for the help here. Cheers, Philg88 ♦talk 20:07, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Dear Philg88!! Your help is highly appreciated! I am overjoyed to see the article online now in current shape. Thanks to you again and many thanks to all reviewers, most importantly @W.carter: who was always there to help me to improve the article beyond my capabilities! Thanks.
I Look forward for a great DYK and successful GA on this and many other upcoming articles by me in coming times. Educationtemple (talk) 05:44, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Educationtemple: Thanks for the message. As Jim Cartar has suggested, let's leave the DYK until the article is promoted to GA. You will need to shorten the hook as it is currently 197 characters, which is very close to the limit of 200 and it may be rejected as too long. Cheers, Philg88 ♦talk 07:05, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
Dear Philg88, it is perfectly fine as Jim Cartar has suggested that let it go through GA review and then we can think for DYK. Till then, I suggest the following shortened hook (156 characters):
"...that Lalji Singh is popularly known as the 'Father of DNA Fingerprinting' in India for pioneering and establishing indigenous DNA Fingerprinting Technology."
I wait for updates from @Jim Cartar: and I would then nominate it for GA once he gives a green signal. Cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 07:16, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
Other school of thought is that lets treat DYK and GA issues independently and let the article go for DYK first (since it is already eligible for DYK now) while it is being nominated and reviewed for GA (which it will hopefully and possibly qualify for), but a DYK will certainly go through. Views? Pinging @Jim Cartar: too for the views on this, please! Educationtemple (talk) 07:48, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Educationtemple: As Jim has already pointed out, the article does not qualify for 5x expansion based on it's actual prose size. I'm afraid you're going to have to wait for the GA review. Cheers, Philg88 ♦talk 15:09, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
- In case you haven't noticed, I have changed my User name. I no longer get notification if someone mentions "Jim Cartar". Jim Carter 15:34, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
DearPhilg88, it is OK. Since I have done all editing as suggested by @Jim Carter: (except one where I am awaiting his guidance), I shall nominate it for GA tomorrow. Hope it does well during review. Cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 20:13, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
Done. Cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 15:26, 21 January 2015 (UTC)

Scotland's people
Hi, Philg, my account at Scotland's people doesn't seem to have received any credits although it was approved quite some time ago - I didn't query it sooner as I know these things can take a while to be organised and I thought perhaps the festive holidays might have delayed processing some where down the line. Once you get the chance, would you be able to check for me, please? Thanks. SagaciousPhil - Chat 20:00, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Sagaciousphil: Hi there and thanks for the message. I'm on the case—sorry for the delay. Cheers, Philg88 ♦talk 21:11, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
- The credits are now appearing on my account. Thanks for your prompt help, it's very much appreciated! SagaciousPhil - Chat 13:59, 23 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Sagaciousphil: You're welcome. I hope it'll turn out to be worth the wait! Best, Philg88 ♦talk 15:10, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

DYK for Lalji Singh
Dear @Philg88:, Congratulations! Lalji Singh is now GA! Shall we now move ahead with the DYK nomination of this as we discussed! The last hook we discussed was:
"...that Lalji Singh is popularly known as the 'Father of DNA Fingerprinting' in India for pioneering and establishing indigenous DNA Fingerprinting Technology."
What is "In the news" and how articles are considered for this? Does it conflict with DYK or these can go together? Educationtemple (talk) 02:18, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Educationtemple: Hi there! In the news is for articles that relate to current events so I don't think it's relevant for Mr. Singh.
- As far as the DYK is concerned, I think that you're more than capable of doing it yourself. Just go to the nomination page, scroll down and enter the article title in the box. The wizard will then create the relevant page for you. Fill that in (you don't need to review an article because you are new to DYK) and save. Then edit the nomination page and add the new entry under the relevant date. If you get stuck, ping me or W.carter and one of us will help. Good luck in your next Wikipedia experience!. Philg88 ♦talk 08:27, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
OK, Sure! Will do. Cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 09:37, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
- Tried nominating (see here), there is a red warning, something went wrong with history page; (ii) dont know what to fill in "Improved to Good Article status by [[User:|:]] ([[User talk:|talk]]).", whether my username of the username who finally added GA tag after review. Educationtemple (talk) 10:02, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
- Should be OK now. I've added it to the queue. Cheers, Philg88 ♦talk 12:42, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
Yeas, it is OK now. Thank you again Philg88 Please give me a lesson on FA! Can Lalji Singh be nominated for FA review? If yes, what are the rules and limitations and what are the lacuna in Lalji Singh in its current state that limits its nominations for a FA review? Educationtemple (talk) 16:17, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Educationtemple: In the current state it is very likely that it will not pass FA. I myself is struggling to get an article to FA standard. I will leave you a message tomorrow explaining why it won't pass a FA review. For those who nominate articles for FA just after GA: It is always better to nominate an article for a WP:Peer review before going for FA, if you believe the article will easily pass FA. Jim Carter 18:31, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Jim Carter. I look forward for your message. It would not only give me a challenge but also an opportunity to learn even more! Educationtemple (talk) 18:43, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
- That's great input Jim, thanks. Philg88 ♦talk 06:39, 23 January 2015 (UTC)
- FYI I have replied him on his talk page. Jim Carter (from public cyber) 08:58, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

Dear Philg88 and @Jim Carter: please have a look at DYK progress also of Lalji Singh (ThisLink). I think a negative vote was given wrongly which was condemned by another editor already. Educationtemple (talk) 18:53, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
- Should be OK now. Philg88 ♦talk 09:27, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
Great! Cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 10:10, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
Still seems to be some issues there in DYK. No probs, let it go as neutral. Educationtemple (talk) 16:27, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Educationtemple: There's no rush! Wait until the issue resolves itself, which it surely will. Philg88 ♦talk 17:28, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
