National varieties of English

edit

Hello. In a recent edit, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, or Pakistan use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author of the article used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you. freshacconci (✉) 10:38, 6 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

"Regular season"

edit

The term "Regular season" is almost never used in Philippine leagues; instead, the term "elimination round" is used. Please see the relevant guideline, WP:ENGVAR, on such matters. Howard the Duck (talk) 01:55, 5 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Philippines Football League does have a "regular season" or group stage starting from 2018; it has no postseason.PiaLily (talk) 01:00, 16 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Is the term "regular season" even used starting in 2018 considering there's no "postseason", hence no need for a modifier (there's no more "regular" and "irregular" seasons)? WP:RS doesn't use this term. Granted it was used in 2017 by the league per se when there was a "regular season" and a "Finals series", both terms almost never used in Philippine sport until them. Sharifa Alkhateeb

edit

Hi. Thanks for working to improve the site with your edits to Sharifa Alkhateeb, as we really appreciate your participation. However, one portion of one of the edits -- this one -- had to be reverted, because Wikipedia cannot accept uncited material. Wikipedia requires that the material in its articles be accompanied by reliable, verifiable (usually secondary) sources explicitly cited in the article text in the form of an inline citation, which you can learn to make here. If you ever have any other questions about editing, or need help regarding the site's policies, just let me know by leaving a message for me in a new section at the bottom of my talk page.   Hello, I'm Frood. I noticed that in this edit to List of converts to Islam from Christianity, you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. - Frood (talk!) 05:24, 3 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add or change content, as you did at Hailey Baldwin, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. StaticVapor message me! 05:11, 15 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Non-free content use

edit

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. We always appreciate when users upload files. However, it appears that one or more of the files you have uploaded or added to a page, specifically List of female Members of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, may fail our non-free policy. Most often, this involves editors uploading or using a copyrighted file of a living person. For other possible reasons, please read up on our Non-free criteria. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:41, 13 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Hello, I'm Elizium23. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Sinéad O'Connor, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Per WP:CATV and WP:EGRS, categories must be supported by prose in the body of the article and verifiable by reference to reliable secondary sources. Elizium23 (talk) 07:12, 25 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Please stop adding unsourced or poorly sourced content, as you did on Charlotte Nichols. This violates Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Elizium23 (talk) 06:07, 26 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Female Members of the House of Commons

edit

Hi PiaLily, I saw that you’ve been doing a lot of work on the article about female members of the House of Commons and I was wondering if you might be able to update the images of the MPs. Most have recently had photos taken of them from 2019/2020, but on the article the image used is from 2016/2017, so please may you make the changes. Hearing impairment

edit

Regarding your edit to Emma Nicholson, Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne:[1] you asserted in your edit summary that deafness is not physical, and yet it is the case that hearing impairment is generally caused by a physical condition and that Wikipedia's page on Physical disability explicitly mentions hearing loss among its types of physical disability. So, am I missing some categorisation convention here? Regards, --Mondo Beer (talk) 11:06, 28 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Deafness is mainly a functional disability. PiaLily (talk) 11:10, 28 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Having no legs would be a functional disability. Does that stop it from being a physical disability? --Mondo Beer (talk) 05:33, 12 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Minor edits

edit

Hi PiaLily! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. January 2021

Welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions, but in one of your recent edits to 2022 CONCACAF Women's Championship, it appears that you have added original research, which is against Wikipedia's policies. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. Thank you. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 01:49, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Edit Summaries

edit

Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

You can use the edit summary field to explain your reasoning for an edit, or provide a description of what the edit changes. Summaries save time for other editors and reduce the chances your edit will be misunderstood. For some edits a summary may be quite brief.

Please provide an edit summary for every edit you make. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing →   Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! Alssa1 (talk) 13:40, 8 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Good Article Reassessment

edit

PiaLily, the Sudan women's national football team article is currently undergoing a GA reassessment, which can be found at Talk:Sudan women's national football team/GA3. It seems likely that, absent someone knowledgeable who is able to work on the issues raised, the article will be delisted from being a Good Article in early August. If you are able to stop by and improve the article per the reassessment, it could retain its GA status. Thank you for your past work on the article. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:47, 28 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Don't practically blank an article and then tag it for deletion. I suggest using WP:PROD or WP:AFD where you can put forward your argument for deletion. Speedy deletion criteria are very limited and specific and if you can't find a criteria that fits then PROD or AFD might be more suitable. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 03:28, 4 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
