Question

I noticed someone has moved several Tim Hortons Brier and Nokia Brier pages to (for example) 2012 The Brier. There really is no justification for removing the sponsor title, nor do I think this was necessary. What is your though on this, and what is protocol for moving them back to (for example) 2012 Tim Hortons Brier.? Sirrussellott (talk) 22:14, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Personally, I agree with you. I've never heard of a Wikipedia policy against using sponsor names in article titles, so I can't say if that's the reasoning behind the moves. I can say, though, that there have been no issues with using sponsor names before. We've used sponsor names whenever they appeared for the World Curling Championships, the Brier, and the Scotties. I think there might've been a few other article titles with sponsor names, but I'm not sure. I will check back with you regarding the protocol, since I'm not certain if there's anything. Brier

Hi, if the team is from the NWT, it's "Northwest Territories/Yukon", if they're from the Yukon, then it's "Yukon/Northwest Territories". In the case of Jamie Koe, it's the former. :) -- Earl Andrew - talk 15:18, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

2012 wjcc

I think I got the rankings correct, however, I believe I have the playoff procedure wrong based on previous tournaments. In 2011 it was simple to eliminate two teams in tie breakers, because the winners would simply play each other in the 3-4 game. However this year how are they going to decide (other than ranking) who gets to skip a round and be the 2 seed. I believe that we should change the wording to "Teams at least to Tiebreakers" until they post an official schedule, or whatever you think is best.18abruce (talk) 16:14, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

olympic qualifying

left a couple of links on the talk page for 2014. It would appear that they changed the process at the semi-annual congress in 2010, but did not update their rules or events listings. Page needs some reworking I guess, 2011 results don't matter anymore but countries who participated can enter qualifier. Yes! It's quite interesting, especially since they're doing better than the US right now. But, I recently learned that their skip is a Scottish native who moved to New Zealand, so it makes a bit more sense. I think nations that don't clinch berths after the 2012 and 2013 Worlds will play in a qualification event, which is pretty interesting in itself. Federer-Nadal Flagicons

There is so much text on the right side of the graph that it is difficult to connect the name to the tournament. Since everyone knows that Nadal is Spanish and Federer is Swiss the flags provide a visually pleasing way of clearly seeing who won. Also, the flags symbolize each win and clearly identify which player was dominant at certain periods as well as highlighting streaks.

Canadian Senior Curling Championships

While you mostly disambiguated the city names properly in your recent edits to Canadian Senior Curling Championships, I just wanted to let you know that in the cases of Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie, our articles aren't located at the plain titles (both of which are disambiguation pages as neither city has a unique name.) Sudbury's is located at Greater Sudbury (although Sudbury, Ontario is also an acceptable link which goes to the same place), and the Sault's is at Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Boston Pizza Cup and Brier

I found information about which Albertan champions went on to win the Brier and the World Championship, and which Brier Champions went on to win the World Championship completely necessary when I was trying to get a grip on the history of curling. They have done something similar here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_League_pennant which is where I got the idea. I later found out that I wasn't the first person to feel this way when I came across this source: http://www.2012bostonpizzacup.com/default.aspx?p=pastchampions. If I had discovered that sooner, it would have saved me a lot of cross referencing. Hello! I just felt that it complicated the table too much, and wasn't really necessary. Sure, it is good information, but it makes the table more difficult to read. I'm not too fond of the way it's done on the National League pennant article, but that's just my opinion. I would be open to other methods of showing the championship winners, though. You could possibly use columns to delineate those who won Canadian and world championships. In the end, I just want to keep things as simple as possible. Well, I think having it is really important, and don't mind how it's done. That's why I chose a way that there was already a precedent for somewhere on wikipedia for a similar concept. I'm ok with columns. I don't see how that is any less messy though. Would you have another column just to mark Alberta champions during the war when there was no brier? I agree, but I would ideally want to find a way to make it less cluttered if it were included. It doesn't have to be using columns. Sorry - I meant to point out the four years for which they alberta champion did not go to the brier. Everybody in the list was Alberta champion, but not everybody in the list went to the brier. I'm going to put it back in the way it was, and then we can work on making it less cluttered. (leave the stars but remove the colours maybe?). Hmmm... could that be a detail that's added in the history of the event? I think adding that information onto the table would add a third level of extra information, whereas adding that information as a note in a history section would be more desirable. I will say that I'm less fond of the asterisks than I am of the colors, since the colors are easier to match to denotations than are asterisks. Well, since this tournament is probably more commonly thought of as the qualifier for the brier than the Alberta championship, I think this information is vital. Since this table could be used to answer "Who has represented AB in the Brier?" as well as "Who won the AB curling championship?", it's important not to give people the wrong idea when the two questions don't have the same answer. I see. I understand your point about the common perception of the Boston Pizza Cup, but I would still suggest that it's a detail added into the history of the event. I am surmising that the proper interpretation would be that winners of the event become provincial champions and, in so doing, receive the right to represent the province (in this case, Alberta). Looking at the table, though, I think it may be good to add a column to the table that states how the provincial team placed at the Brier, and we could incorporate both information on Brier champions and non-Brier years into that column. I'm pretty sure they only started the event when they needed to send a team to the Brier. Also, I have only ever heard the commentators refer to it as the play downs. The National League pennant existed for a decade or two before the World Series, but even it is thought of as the qualifier for the World Series. I don't mind how the information is represented. However, I think that if you don't like the format for something, you should reformat it rather than deleting it. I'm not too sure what the appropriate interpretation would be, but I think that in either case, it would be best if there could be an element in the history section as well as in the table, since the history section would offer more clarification. At first, I felt this information was unnecessary, so I didn't delete it on the grounds of format. I'm now working with you to put a suitable format onto the table. Looking at the formats you showed me, I like how the column works, and it'll be a lot simpler when it's incorporated into the table. That would take care of Brier information, I assume. I think if there is a column for one, there should be a column for the other, and the same format should be used on the Brier page to show how they did in the world championships. If there are two columns, brier and world championship, the second one will be empty except for the ones that won the brier. The two bits of info could just go in the same column. So the column would say one of the following:

-no brier that year due to war

-did not win brier (or came in #th in brier)

-won brier

-won brier and world championship

(not sure)

I could see how somebody could argue that world championships should not be mentioned on this list. However, it is really convenient to be able to scan the list and know immediately all of the Albertan world champions in the history of curling

I'm not exactly sure that going into more detail on the World Championships (with the exception of marking champions) is necessary, since that would probably be covered in the Brier article. Getting Wikimedians to the Olympic Games

I've only been trying to add results to the page, since you've been covering most of the editing (which I need to thank you for). I'm not sure what to make of your continued mentions of "my standards." If this helps at all, one of my goals is to keep the formats of all pages in the WikiProject consistent with each other. I'm not sure if you've been referring to that, but if you do have an issue with this, I would like to hear your perspective. I'm like any other person; I make mistakes, and I can try to be open to suggestions, but there are times where I fail to do so, so I'd ask that you have patience with me. Thanks. The wiki project curling is a collaborative group project, yet you seem to go to every single page anyone edits and correct anything you don't like, to set to your standards. I went to the project page over the summer and came across the Article Guidlines, and it seemed funny that everything in the guidelines is everything you correct. When I went to the history of the page it all made sense. YOU wrote the guidelines and then go and change everything to meet the guidelines you wrote. As a member of the group, I don't ever recall receiving notification to review those guidelines, I don't recall a page being created to pool ideas to create guidelines, nor do I recall anyone bringing up the fact that guidelines needed to be created. You did it on your own and try to enforce it on everyone else. This is the Wiki Project Curling, not the User Prayerfortheworld presents "Wiki Project Curling." You can't just create a set of guidelines without getting approval from other project members and then enforce it on everyone. That is where a majority of all of these problems stem from, you trying to turn the Wiki Project Curling into the Prayerfortheworld Project. First, I suggested a set of article guidelines about a year and some ago in order to find a way to keep the formatting consistent. The article guidelines aren't a set of rules that absolutely have to be followed, nor am I trying to enforce them like some sort of dictator. Since there was no one else really contributing to the article guidelines, I just drew up a set of guidelines which I felt addressed as much on WP:CURLING as possible. I really hoped for there to be more discussion regarding the draft for the article guidelines, but there weren't any objections (or suggestions, really) for how they were to be, so I just left them as is. You can see that I made a few posts on WT:CURLING to ask for support, but no one had responded on the talk pages, so I just left the AGs as is. If you do find an issue with anything on there, that's what the talk pages are for. I really want to get these guidelines set down so we have a good foundation to build up future curling pages on. I've been editing in the same manner and trying to keep all of the pages consistent, and there we've had problems, since you see my edits as intrusions on your edits (correct me if I'm wrong). Again, I never meant for my actions to be perceived as my trying to take over the WikiProject or whatnot, and I'm sorry that you see it that way, but I would hope that we can work together to make this work, seeing as we're the only editors that are really active in WP:CURLING. Sirrussellott

I have blocked Sirrussellott for a month. I was suspicious after seeing the comment by Tincloth on Template talk:Curlingbox‎, and looking at that user's contributions it appeared likely that it was the same user. I did a check and the IP address and the technical data are exactly the same. I have also blocked the Tincloth account. Being aware of this may make you want to go back to the curling box and rethink what should be done. Well spotted. It was Sirrussellott using a proxy to mask his IP address. Unfortunately for him our checkuser software can still pick up his original IP and his computer details. I have now blocked him indefinitely. It would be worth you keeping an eye on curling articles for other suspicious activity, this person seems very persistent. 2014 olympic curling

Just curious why it says not to add rankings until world championships are over. In the hockey qualifying we used a system of establishing minimum points achieved as nations assured themselves of ranking points, so we could evaluate who had clinched olympic berths as it happened. It does not matter to me either way, but I think it worked very well on the hockey page, and could be done with a little bit of in-championship communication on the talk page there.18abruce (talk) 02:04, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

Although this is a nice idea, it involves an element of speculation, and, as such, I'm not very comfortable with doing that. I was a bit put off when an editor had placed some point values onto the table, because it looked quite incomplete and disorganized. I feel that ultimately, it's rather inconsequential, but I'd just argue that it's more preferable to update the standings of the countries as a whole after the conclusion of the World Championships, since all the information will be available, and there will be less room for error. Besides, it's really a matter of waiting one or two days after the conclusion of the round robin, so I wouldn't be too keen on making the change before then. Thanks for your thoughts!
