Hello, SpinnerLaserzthe2nd,
I hope you are well. Please do not remove deletion tags from pages that you created. Rest assured, if a category is no longer empty, either I or another editor will untag it so that it is not deleted, as long as it occurs during the 7 day period when categories sit in Category:Empty categories awaiting deletion. And if a category is deleted simply for being empty and you find you need it later, it can easily be restored. Take care, Liz Read! Talk! 15:30, 16 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Pokémon capitalisation

edit

I just had a look at Bulbapedia based on your edit summary to the userbox, and wow, I never knew there had been so much discussion on Pokémon species capitalisation! That's so interesting. Although it makes more sense for me for them to lowercase, proper noun style does seem to be the convention, and that is how they're done in Wikipedia areticles too, so I'll stick to that while on Wikipedia. Thanks for letting me know, I appreciate it :) -- NotCharizard 🗨 23:44, 25 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

An article you recently created, List of municipal flags of Eastern Germany, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). Replaceable fair use File:Lena Forsén.png

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Lena Forsén.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 03:20, 2 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi Spinner. I noticed you have recently embarked on inserting the Nastaliq font on many Iran-related articles. However, Nastaliq is a calligraphic script, and is "not" used as an everyday writing script for Persian in Iran. I would therefore like to ask you to stop doing this, as its not an improvement to said articles. Thank you! - LouisAragon (talk) 19:46, 24 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

It seems you have inserted it on more articles than I thought. Could you revert these yourself manually? Saves the community a lot of time. Thanks! - LouisAragon (talk) 19:49, 24 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
If Nastaliq is a calligraphic script, what do people in Iran use instead? I wasn’t aware that Nastaliq was a calligraphic script and wasn’t used in everyday writing anyone. I wonder why? I think the Persian Wikipedia should have a Nastaliq option. SpinnerLaserzthe2nd (talk) 19:54, 24 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
@SpinnerLaserzthe2nd: The writing system is just called “Persian” (Farsi). Obviously when you add Persian-language text using “{ { lang | fa } }”, it automatically uses the standard script and you don’t need to do anything extra, the same way you wouldn’t do that for any other language. Like LouisAragon said, Nastaliq is used for artistic purposes. We use it on book covers, poetry books, and so on. It’s not “the normal” way of writing.

Please don't add unsourced countries to film infoboxes. Most of the time, this is already sourced. If it's not, you can help by adding a source and citing what it says. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 05:44, 7 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

But it is co-produced by a British studio, I had checked the article. SpinnerLaserzthe2nd (talk) 05:45, 7 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
That's irrelevant. Wikipedia is based on what reliable sources say, not our personal criteria for what makes a film British. So, for Wikipedia to label a film as British, there needs to be a citation to a reliable source that does the same thing. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 18:56, 7 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Queen's Personal Flags

edit

The Queen's Personal Flags are exactly as the name suggests - personal to herself. You cannot assume that they will be adopted unchanged by her successor and your moving all of the articles has been hugely messy because other editors had already changed them to be in the past tense. XAM2175 (T) 00:52, 11 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

I thought all names are charged to reflect Charles himself even the flags are no longer used. Is there is a process for that? SpinnerLaserzthe2nd (talk) 01:07, 11 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
No. There is a division between things that refer to the current monarch, and things that refer to a specific monarch. Where things refer to the current monarch, articles on those things should be updated where they refer to current events or circumstances. Where things refer to a specific monarch, as with the Queen's personal flags, there is no automatic change unless the new monarch decides to adopt those things themselves - and when, if ever, that does happen the way the article is updated should be decided on a case-by-case basis. Please remember that there is no deadline in editing Wikipedia; it is better that an article be outdated for a while rather than being updated incorrectly. The type-07 PLA cap badge File:PLA's cap insignia (2007 Edition).svg should not have a blue background, it should be hollow, and the gold color value is not correct, it should be brighter. Can you tell me why you reverted my edits on the following pages: List of diplomatic missions in Washington, D.C. and List of diplomatic missions in Ottawa ? There was no note left on the revert edits. I change the flags of some countries to match the flag fly by their embassies, the same way navy flags are shown if we are talking about a country in a war ship article (example: Cruiser (Operators section)).

Depending of the country, the civil flag (fly by private compagny and citizen), can be different from the state flag (fly by public compagny, government, embassy, ...). Check that article for a better understanding: State flag.
I check on real life embassy (mosly via Google Street View) before changing the flag in these articles.

The file File:World Archery flag.svg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails fair use as it is not the primary mean of identification in the article

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Categorisation

edit
  • Subcategories of existing categories should not be added to articles. For example, Category:Anti-Americanism is a subcategory of Category:Workers' Party of Korea. Every member of the WPK does not need to have Category:Anti-Americanism because it is inherent if the article has Category:Workers' Party of Korea.
  • WP:CATV and WP:CATPOV: Categories should also be verified by the sources in the article body. This is especially important for labels such as "anti-American". Just because you are certain of a label does not mean it should be added. If the label is widely used, you should have no problem with finding reliable sources that use that label for the subject.

Tagging categories for speedy deletion

edit

Hello, SpinnerLaserzthe2nd,

Categories can only be deleted by speedy deletion if they have been emptied. Otherwise, you end up with a great many articles with red link categories on them which, according to WP:REDNO needs to be avoided. It's best to send them back to CFD.

Also, if you are going to tag a page as the recreation of a page deleted during a deletion discussion, CSD G4, you need to provide a link to the deletion discussion so that this can be confirmed. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 02:37, 23 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Reverting without discussion

edit

Hello! I invite you to Talk:2023 Israel–Hamas war#Germany as you have removed content under dispute at a talk page discussion, after previously mis-translating a source which was confirmed by an Arabic-speaking Wiki editor to confirm German drone were going to Israel, not Ukraine (as you claimed in your reversion). I also encourage you to self-revert as this is your 2nd revert of the content and in your 2nd revert, you did not provide adequate reasoning to violate the Arbitration Remedies on the article. So please, self-revert this specific edit, as you have not participated in the discussion and seem to be unaware of the inaccurate translation you conducted when you reverted the content the first time earlier today. I reverted the report you filed at SPI because you didn't create it properly. You may refile, but please either follow the instructions at SPI or use Twinkle; do not do it free-form as you did. Also, a heads-up: you need more evidence for your report to be evaluated. Comparison diffs between the alleged sock and previously blocked socks are expected.--Bbb23 (talk) 12:47, 22 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add or change content, as you did at Habesha peoples, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Two of the groups you added to the infobox may be considered part of, rather than related to, Habesha people - that's been a contentious issue (see Talk:Habesha people). The other groups you added there are not otherwise mentioned (much less sourced) in the article. Gyrofrog (talk) 23:06, 20 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Kingdom of the Netherlands

edit

Dear SpinnerLaserzthe2nd,

You reverted a change I made and changed a link to just refer to the country of the Netherlands. However, the constituent countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands do not have a separate foreign/defence policy. The Dutch Armed Forces and foreign ministry always represent the entire kingdom and not just the constituent country of the Netherlands. I think it's okay to colloquially refer to just "the Netherlands" in text, but the link should be correct imo.

Instead, you keep edit warrning, a behavior that can easily get you blocked. Come to the talk page and propose your changes, but you need to come with a reliable source that says Ehrmantraut is German, because as it stands now, it looks like you're making an assumption based on his name. Ok, I think I see what you mean by this. The category Category:Fictional American people of German descent was in the article and has now been deleted and you're trying to replace it with Category:Fictional German people. I think that's great that you're trying to do that with articles it was deleted from, however it shouldn't been a category in this article in the first place as it wasn't sourced. The crux of the problem is, after you added it, you were reverted, and then you added it back. You were reverted a second time and still added it back. You didn't follow BRD. Once you're reverted, if you disagree with the revert, go to the talk page. Don't edit war to add it back. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 17:26, 24 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I reverted your edit on Samuel O'Reilly because I haven't seen anything in sources that would show he went by or was known by anything other than the American version of his name. Your edit didn't have an edit summary, so I'm not sure why you added the alternate name – please always include an edit summary (WP:FIES). I see you made similar changes to a few other articles. Are you basing these changes on sources that show these people sometimes used an Irish version of their name? Dreamyshade (talk) 15:37, 22 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Template editor granted

edit

Your account has been granted the "templateeditor" user permission, allowing you to edit templates and modules that have been protected with template protection. It also allows you to bypass the title blacklist, giving you the ability to create and edit editnotices. Before you use this user right, please read Wikipedia:Template editor and make sure you understand its contents. In particular, you should read the section on wise template editing and the criteria for revocation.

You can use this user right to perform maintenance, answer edit requests, and make any other simple and generally uncontroversial edits to templates, modules, and edinotices. You can also use it to enact more complex or controversial edits, after those edits are first made to a test sandbox, and their technical reliability as well as their consensus among other informed editors has been established. If you are willing to process edit requests on templates and modules, keep in mind that you are taking responsibility to ensure the edits have consensus and are technically sound.

This user right gives you access to some of Wikipedia's most important templates and modules; it is critical that you edit them wisely and that you only make edits that are backed up by consensus. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password.

If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

If you were granted the permission on a temporary basis you will need to re-apply for the permission a few days before it expires including in your request a permalink to the discussion where it was granted and a {{ping}} for the administrator who granted the permission. You can find the permalink in your rights log.

Instead of individual reverts, please follow the WP:BRD process and discuss the issue at WT:FOOTY. SounderBruce 21:07, 14 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Is there is the reason why you removed them despite the fact that sources states so? SpinnerLaserzthe2nd (talk) 21:11, 14 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Stock image websites are not reliable sources; the first part of my reasoning (as also explained at WT:FOOTY) is that these simply aren't significant parts of the tournament. They don't belong in the infobox and should be placed in the prose summary of the tournament with a proper source. SounderBruce 21:18, 14 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Can you give me an example of where it should be in a prose summary? SpinnerLaserzthe2nd (talk) 21:18, 14 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
There's an "Opening ceremony" in the articles on more recent editions, such as 2018 FIFA World Cup#Opening ceremony. That's where it should go, with a good citation. SounderBruce 21:35, 14 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Move of Soma Station

edit

Dear colleague, please note that renaming of the article shall not be done by moving text, as cutting/pasting removes the history (and creates authorship issues). Instead, please use one of the procedures in WP:MOVE. Here are more details:

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Soma Station] a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Sōma Station. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you.

Hey man,

Just wanted to say – great job at picking up where I left off making userboxes for individual Olympic Games, using the same format I first used almost fifteen years ago. It occurred to me I hadn’t made any for awhile so I made userboxes for the 2024, 2026, and 2028 Games, and then went to put them in the Userbox Gallery and lo and behold I was greeted with yours haha. I hope you don’t mind, I still put my versions of those userboxes there, as alternates – but yours look better than mine ever did anyway lmao.

Speedy deletion nomination of File:The Phryges.svg

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on File:The Phryges.svg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2024 July 19#File:Paris 2024 mascots.png. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.
