IRC invitation
Because I have noticed you commenting at the current RfC regarding Pending Changes, I wanted to invite you to the IRC channel for pending changes. If you are not customarily logged into the IRC, use this link. This under used resource can allow real time discussion at this particularly timely venture of the trial known as Pending Changes. Even if nothing can come from debating points there, at least this invitation is delivered with the best of intentions and good faith expectations. Kind regards. My76Strat 08:32, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
Arch / usernames
Heh; yes, sorry about the 'rapid archiving'. I was moving old threads to keep the size down, and it seemed kinda 'done'. But also, possibly, I was trying to avoid the ongoing "you should be an admin" stuff! I mean...yes, it'd be useful if I was, but I'm just not certain I can handle the drama of it; also, whether I can be bothered to go through all my contribs and dig up all the necessary things (to show I've done so-many-hundred AFC's, so-many-hundred username reports) and getting good examples together. I really should, but mostly I don't because I find something better/more interesting to do. Chzz ► 16:50, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

Admin Mentoring...
Thank you for your patience!
I apologise for the delay in responding to your last replies - I didn't expect it to be that long before I could do so!
I was on holiday from work, and ironically had less time on Wikipedia - family stuff, which I normally can't do as I work at night and sleep during the day! - and then work has been hectic!
Thankfully I have a night off tonight (but will be working the next 6 nights), so I have responded to your answers, and left some more questions.
I have been impressed with your answers so far - you seem to be putting in some thought to it, which is good to see!
I might not get to respond again for almost a week, as I said I'm working 6 nights, but personally I think it's going well, even if slower than we might initially have thought!

Hi Reaper Eternal, can you "adopt" me? Secrets floating in the sea (talk) 14:47, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
- Certainly! I'd be happy to adopt you! :) I'm just interested in one thing though: What would you like to do? There are many things you can do here, such as fixing grammar mistakes in articles, adding reliable sources to unsourced statements in articles, or adding information to articles that interest you. Additionally, what are your interests, as it is a lot more fun to edit articles that interest you. Reaper Eternal (talk) 14:57, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

- I enjoy wikifying articles too! You can see a list of them at Category:Articles that need to be wikified. The way you wikify articles is by adding relevant internal links to other Wikipedia pages, and you add them by doing just what you did above: adding
[[ ]]
characters around the word that needs to be linked. However, just one note: you don't need to link common words like "finger", and you don't commonly need to link them more than once. And don't worry about typos in the edit summary, everybody messes up now and then. (I once typed the "re", which is short for "reply" as "er".) Reaper Eternal (talk) 15:13, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Texas Chain Saw Massacre
Hi Reaper, and thank you for participating in the GOCE Backlog elimination drive again this month. I just wanted to let you know that articles from the Requests page count double only for the basic barnstar, and not for the leader board or for a 10-k rather than a 5-k article. Thanks for taking this article; I have edited it many times so fresh eyes are needed. It was very close to passing FA last time. --Diannaa (Talk) 02:50, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

Spare time to compare a photo?
If you have a minute could you please take a quick look at the pic under the heading "Stratford" at [1] and compare with [2].
I think that they are the same photo but one is a cropped version of the other. I have concerns because all of the photos at University of East London display the characteristics of having been taken by a professional and the person who is claiming ownership of most of them on Commons is an editor who, until my recent work, appears to have committed numerous copyvios in that article. Of course, the editor in question could be a pro photographer but the tone of language used by him/her suggests to me that s/he is a student there (eg: the person left a msg on my talk page - User_talk:Sitush#What_the_hell_are_you_doing.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21.21
UEL claim copyright so even if the editor did take the thing, and UEL used a cropped version, then it is a bit worrying to me, AGF or no AGF.

- I'd talk to somebody more knowledgeable than myself. In order to clarify, I am asking users to briefly, clearly state which version of the quotation they support or oppose.
Please see Talk:Pat_Tillman#Clarifying_for_consensus
I am sending this message to everyone who has previously participated in the discussion; I do not wish to make any assumptions of the previous opinion.

re: redirects to Pi
In an RfD discussion, you asked "Out of curiosity, then, why don't we have the numbers between these two, such as 3.141592653589793238462643383279503 or 3.1415926535897932384626433832795029?"
If I had to guess, it's because of the quirky "magic" of round numbers. The first redirect has 35 digits after the decimal. The second has 30 digits including the three. Somebody probably did type those numbers in somewhere - either in an old article page or on some external webpage and someone else thought that they were significant enough to link.
Of course, that begs the question why there aren't variations at 25 digits, 45 digits, etc. The answer there (I hope) is that experienced editors continue to quietly coach new users that, while it's not deletable, it's generally unnecessary and that they should focus their editing time on other things. As you know, deletion of a contribution that you think you made in good faith is a pretty harsh introduction to the project. Turning marginal pages into redirects and tolerating marginal redirects is part of a softer approach. At least, that's my opinion...
Hope that helps. Rossami (talk) 01:04, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
- Ahhh, I see then; it is per WP:BITE. Thanks! Reaper Eternal (talk) 13:03, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 backlog elimination drive
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here is your mid-drive newsletter.
So far, 79 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 64 have participated. Interest is high due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page, and many new and first-time copy editors have joined us for the drive. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now. Many thanks to those editors who have been helping out at the Requests page. We have assisted in the promotion of seven articles to Good article status so far this month.
We have already achieved our target of reducing the overall backlog by 10%; however, we have more work to do with the 2009 backlog. We have almost eliminated May 2009 and we only have some 700 articles left from 2009. It is excellent progress, so let's concentrate our fire power on the remaining months from 2009. Thank you for participating in the March 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success!

Question about company entry
Hello. I hope you are well, and that you can help. I work for a company called GDS International. We have a page on Wikipedia that I recently updated to reflect changes at the company. The page was created by someone at GDS a while ago, and they no longer work here (hence I have no-one to ask, and why I am contacting you). I removed a paragraph at the bottom of the page that related to a court case against GDS for 'sexual and racial discrimination'. And another contributor has added it again. My question is this: the case was thrown out of court, but this was not reported (the allegations being far more 'newsworthy' than the reality). Therefore, I cannot provide a counter reference. I'm not sure that the story is relevant to GDS anyway, but I know the contributor in question and know he has an axe to grind with the company. That's fair enough (and outside the point of this question). What can I do? Can I remove the paragraph in question? Or should I rewrite it so that it is correct, but lacking a key reference? Thank you for your time and attention. Bristolstaff (talk) 16:56, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- I have removed the poorly-sourced information in the controversy section as YouTube and somebody's personal blog are not reliable sources. I have also removed mention of the lawsuit as the New York Post was the only news outlet that mentioned it, and it was covered in a highly sensationalist, tabloid-style manner. (The New York Post has been noted for this type of journalism.)
- However, there are some things I would like to point out. It appears that you are trying to promote GDS International, and I have had to clean up some of the language used. As you mentioned, you work for the company, and thus you have a conflict-of-interest when it comes to editing that article. Wikipedia strongly discourages people from editing where they have a conflict-of-interest, as it tends to introduce biases into the article. Additionally, as the tags at the top of the article point out, the article may not be notable per WP:CORP.
- Finally, your username does not meet Wikipedia's username policy, as it implies that your account is used by a group of people, and this is not allowed. Thus I would encourage you to follow the instructions outlined at Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple to change your username to a username that represents only you.
- Sorry to throw so many links at you, and, after your username is changed, I encourage you to continue editing other articles! It's fun! Reaper Eternal (talk) 20:03, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

- Cool! I didn't want to rush you, but this is my most ambitious GAN to date so I am obviously interested to see how it turns out! -- Zoeperkoe (talk) 15:50, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Ball lightning
Good day! I need an advise of you. I tried add an external link in article ball lightning. This link was such: Videos Films, depicting the fireballs (in Russian). It was deleted. I tried to explain my position at Talk:Ball lightning in section About two new external links. During Revision as of 19:28, 17 March 2011 (edit) Daffydavid changed the link to the form: Video of Ball Lightning,Lightball Video Two amateur videos of suspected Ball Lightning. The videos also are available in zip-archive, and may be seen with the help of VLC media player.
But then Beach drifter deleted the link. Moreover at 20 March 2011 he deleted also this information:
- Fedosin S.G. and Kim A.S. proposed (2000) Electron-ionic model.[1] ,
which was in section Other hypotheses. Now I don't know what to do in such situation. Fedosin (talk) 07:24, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
- The video links that you wish to add are discouraged by Wikipedia's policy on linking to sites you own due to the inevitable conflict-of-interest. Additionally, linking to rich media content is discouraged because many users cannot see the content, and the videos may also qualify as original research. The other link was removed because Beach drifter considered it to be irrelevant.
- I would strongly encourage you to read Wikipedia's conflict-of-interest guideline, particularly the section on citing yourself, to understand why many editors will be particularly averse to you adding the links. Reaper Eternal (talk) 15:16, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
- Many thanks for explanation.

Hi, I notice that you tried to help out User:Wnfck on the above article. I've now restored it to the state it was a few hours ago after my clean up edits. The contributor you were helping had basically added back all the dross I had removed, including ridiculous number of sections etc. Hope this is ok. I'm now going to tag it for citations. - Sitush (talk) 19:09, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

I never get invitations like that... I deleted Monica as vandalism, not nonsense. Nonsense is a bit more specific at WP than in everyday life. Even some surrealist poetry would pass the nonsense test. Something like "Squoog de flagles sinooot pan ve hutxer" wouldn't, once you'd checked to see if it were some obscure language from the Rhodope mountains. (If the more interesting words don't come up on Google, it won't be...) Keep up the good work. (Second thoughts: Is Bobby M or F? Lonely in New Orleans?!?) Peridon (talk) 20:55, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

Your vandalism revert didn't catch it all
Thanks for your effort in making this revert of vandalism. Unfortunately, you only caught the last three vandalist edits and missed the one before those three, probably because it was done by a different editor. Please take a look at the edit history when reverting vandalism. Many times, multiple edits by different anon IP editors indicate vandalism by multiple editors. In such cases, simple "Undo" of the most recent vandal doesn't get rid of all the vandalism. Thanks for your vigilance and keep up the good work. --Pseudo-Richard (talk) 18:48, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- You're welcome! Yes, that is because I use antivandalism tools (in this case STiki), and they only show the most recent diff, not the edits beforehand or the edit history. Multiple IP edits are normally not an indication of multiple vandalism, except in /b/ raids or when the IPs are from the same subnet—an IP-hopping vandal. I know about undo, but I only use rollback since it is much quicker and easier. Reaper Eternal (talk) 01:07, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

GOCE drive newsletter
Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 backlog elimination drive report
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating in the March 2011 drive! This newsletter summarizes the March drive and other recent events.
There were 99 signups for the drive; of these, 70 participated. Interest was high mainly due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page. We had a record-breaking 84 articles listed on the Requests page in March; 11 of these have been promoted to Good article status so far. Several of our recent efforts have received Featured Article status as well, and the GOCE is becoming a solid resource for the Wikipedia community. Many thanks to editors who have been helping out at the Requests page and by copy editing articles from the backlog.
Remarkable progress was made in reducing the backlog this month, as we now have fewer than 500 articles remaining from 2009. We are well under the 4,000-article mark for the total number remaining in the queue. Since our backlog drives began in May 2010 with 8,323 articles, we have cleared more than 53% of the backlog. A complete list of results and barnstars awarded can be found here. Barnstars will be distributed over the next week. If you enjoyed participating in our event, you may also like to join the Wikification drives, which are held on alternate months to our drives. Their April drive has started.
On March 21, SMasters appointed Chaosdruid (talk) and Torchiest (talk) as Guild coordinators to serve in place of The Utahraptor, who recently stepped down. Please feel free to contact any coordinator if you have any questions or need assistance. Your drive coordinators – S Masters (talk), Diannaa (Talk) and Tea with toast (Talk) |

- BTW, maybe I should have rewritten the prose after the content was all changed. Reaper Eternal (talk) 18:38, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

D'arcy Wretzky
Hi, as a sporadic contributator I'm not so familiar with Wikipedia's policies and such, but I've seen you're willing to offer editor assistance, so I've chosen to contact you. Would you be able to keep an eye on the article about D'arcy Wretzky? There seems to be some very subtle vandalism by an IP editor. Obviously John Shanahan has nothing to do with Joe Shanahan. Likewise it's well-known that D'arcy mostly played a Jazz Bass.
Best regards! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.49.244.252 (talk) 07:14, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
- I'll keep an eye on the page. However, the content in question appears to be poorly sourced. Reaper Eternal (talk) 23:16, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you. I think you mean the question about the bass type is poorly sourced. In this case I have to agree reluctantly. Nevertheless the Jazz Bass seems to be mentioned in the article for some time and it's also the type of instrument that can be seen in countless pictures and videos around the net. The info on Joe Shanahan can be sourced in this release though: http://www.discogs.com/Smashing-Pumpkins-Fully-Illustrated-Book-Interview-Disc-The-Unauthorised-Edition/release/1910746 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.181.211.153 (talk) 05:32, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for your participation in the March 2011 GAN backlog elimination drive
On behalf of User:Wizardman and myself, we would like to take the time and thank you for your contributions made as part of the March 2011 Good articles backlog elimination drive. Awards and barnstars will go out shortly for those who have reviewed a certain number of articles.
During the backlog drive, in the month of March 2011,
- 522 GA nominations were undertaken.
- 423 GA nominations passed.
- 72 GA nominations failed.
- 27 GA nominations were on hold.
We started the GA backlog elimination drive with 378 GA nominations remaining, with 291 that were not reviewed at all. By 2:00, April 1, 2011, the backlog was at 171 GA nominations, with 100 that were left unreviewed.
At the start of the drive, the oldest unreviewed GA nomination was 101 days (Andrei Kirilenko (politician), at 20 November 2010, reviewed and passed 1 March 2011); at the end of the drive the oldest unreviewed GA nomination was 39 days (Gery Chico, at 24 February 2011, still yet to be reviewed as of this posting).
While we did not achieve the objective of getting the backlog of outstanding GA nominations down to below 50, we reduced the GA backlog by over half. The GA reviews also seemed to be of a higher quality and have consistently led, to say the least, to marginal improvements to those articles (although there were significant improvements to many, even on the some of the nominations that were failed).
If you would like to comment on the drive itself and maybe even make suggestions on how to improve the next one, please make a comment at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Good articles/GAN backlog elimination drives/March 2011#Feedback. Another GA backlog elimination drive is being planned for later this year, tentatively for September or October 2011. Also, if you have any comments or remarks on how to improve the Good article process in general, Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles can always use some feedback at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Good articles.
Again, on behalf of User:Wizardman and myself, thank you for making the March 2011 GA backlog elimination drive a success.

Requesting a copy-edit
Hello, I was wondering if you could help me with a copy-edit on the article Halo (Beyoncé Knowles song). It is currently at FAC, and well some people oppose in articles as soon as possible, and was recently opposed because it needs a copy-edit. Time ago, you helped Jivesh with one at Ego (Beyoncé Knowles song), so I thought you may help me here too. I am not hurry with this, Halo's 3rd FAC will always be there, won't it? So if you are busy, would you recommend me another GOCE? Thank you so much. Tbhotch* ۩ ۞ 02:43, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

- Sorry, but I really cannot manage to get this done within a reasonable time. Classes, homework, and things of that nature are preventing me from getting a good solid couple hours to really go through it to prepare it for FAC. Maybe another GoCE editor would be available. - OK, any quick recommendation (a personal recommendation to avoid to list it a GOCE). Tbhotch* ۩ ۞ 03:47, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
- OK, I've gotten the initial run done. I'll be back in a couple hours to re-review my edits and clean up any more. Reaper Eternal (talk) 16:45, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

- Sorry, but I really cannot manage to get this done within a reasonable time. - Thank you so much, and sorry. Tbhotch* ۩ ۞ 02:50, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
Oh well, its FAC was closed by the most disruptive FA director. So, it is not needed for pressuring you. If you want to continue copy-editing, you are mostly welcome. Tbhotch* ۩ ۞ 03:18, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

- With this edit, you added an unsourced claim of being gay. Per the biography of living persons policy, any such claim MUST have reliable sources to back it up. Reaper Eternal (talk) 02:47, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
- i have a video of the fox 5 interview... would that help? how can i post it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.199.5.233 (talk) 02:50, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
- You can source it to the Fox interview by adding the content with a citation to the interview (see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners for how to create a citation/reference). Be sure to include a link to the video in your reference too, so other people can verify what you wrote. Reaper Eternal (talk) 02:53, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

I apologise
I apologise for accidental reverting of your revert of vandalism of the Battle of Stalingrad article. I didn't noticed initially that you reverted a vandal. Sorry about that.--Paul Siebert (talk) 17:14, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
- That's fine! Reaper Eternal (talk) 19:05, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
