Hello, SD0001! Having an article draft declined at Articles for Creation can be disappointing. If you are wondering why your article submission was declined, please post a question at the Articles for creation help desk. If you have any other questions about your editing experience, we'd love to help you at the Teahouse, a friendly space on Wikipedia where experienced editors lend a hand to help new editors like yourself! Hi, sorry, I rashly declined your sandbox before I realised it was yours. Were you testing something? Hope I didn't spoil your experiment! (Feel free to undo my decline, obvs.) Cheers, --DoubleGrazing (talk) 07:02, 28 May 2023 (UTC)
@DoubleGrazing No worries, I was checking how the page showed up in the db replicas - but they are lagged anyway so it wasn't showing up at all! – SD0001 (talk) 07:08, 28 May 2023 (UTC)

Drafts subject to five year retention

Hi SD0001,

I understand that you maintain two tools, User:SDZeroBot/G13 soon and User:SDZeroBot/G13 eligible, used to identify drafts that are eligible to be deleted under G13. Following a recent RfC there is now a limited exception to G13; articles deleted under this process are not eligible for G13 until five years have passed since they were draftified.

These articles are denoted by a template, Template:Special draft, which includes a date parameters specifying the month and year they were moved to draft space. It is my intent to also create a monthly maintenance category, but Ambox doesn't seem cooperative of that for articles in draft space, so I am looking into that further.

Would it be possible for you to update these tools to accommodate this? If it would be easier to do this once the monthly maintenance category let me know and I will contact you again when it is.

For an example of an article subject to this, see Draft:Édouard Martin (wrestler).

BilledMammal (talk) 23:32, 27 May 2023 (UTC)

@BilledMammal A single category will be enough for the the bot to support this exception, as it can then use the cl_timestamp (time at which page entered the category) - assuming this will be roughly same as the time of draftification. – SD0001 (talk) 07:16, 28 May 2023 (UTC)
assuming this will be roughly same as the time of draftification It will be; this initial set might be slightly delayed while I learn how to use templates well enough to resolve the category issue, but a few weeks or even a month over the span of five years isn't significant.
Thank you; I'll let you know when I have the categories working. BilledMammal (talk) 08:01, 28 May 2023 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023

Hello SD0001,

New Page Review queue April to June 2023

Backlog

Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.

Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.

Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.

You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.

Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

Thanks for the SQL tip!

Hey @SD0001 just wanted to thank you for your tip on using rev_id instead of timespace over on Quarry. It's been a lifesaver, I've been able to get much larger files significantly faster than using the previous method. Dr vulpes (💬📝) 02:21, 21 June 2023 (UTC)

New pages patrol needs your help!

New pages awaiting review as of June 30th, 2023.

Hello SD0001,

The New Page Patrol team is sending you this impromptu message to inform you of a steeply rising backlog of articles needing review. If you have any extra time to spare, please consider reviewing one or two articles each day to help lower the backlog. You can start reviewing by visiting Special:NewPagesFeed. Thank you very much for your help.

WP:RFPP/E form broken by CAPTCHA

Hi SD0001, there's an issue with the way MediaWiki:Request-page-protection-form.js currently works: WP:VPT § WP:RFPP/E broken whenever a CAPTCHA is required. Perhaps there's a way to fix this without investing hours of work to get the CAPTCHA transcluded somehow? ~ ToBeFree (talk) 00:10, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

User:SDZeroBot/G13 soon

Hello, SD0001,

Sorry not to post on the bot talk page but I'm not sure how often you check that. Tonight's User:SDZeroBot/G13 soon report is really...odd. There are sometimes problems with formatting this page but I can make an edit and correct the page (it's usually an extra "||" somewhere) but tonight there is just a lot of missing information like dates and times for many of the drafts. Since we go by "last edit", not having this information visible is problematic. Any chance you could run this one again and hopefully get an entire report? Thanks! Liz Read! Talk! 00:55, 26 July 2023 (UTC)

Hello, SD0001,
Well, tonight's page is fine but could you please rerun yesterday's report? It's going to be an enormous hassle for editors and admins to look at every draft's page history to determine the last edit time. I hope you can help us out here. Liz Read! Talk! 00:57, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
Well, you've been active but no response here yet. My last plea, please rerun this G13 Soon report for Feb. 1, 2023 to make Tuesday not an impossible day to handle expiring drafts. Liz Read! Talk! 00:29, 31 July 2023 (UTC)

New pages patrol newsletter

Hello SD0001,

New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!

October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

November Articles for creation backlog drive

Hello SD0001:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

There is a backlog of over 1400 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:24, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

Query

Hello, SD0001,

I have a question about User:SDZeroBot. It produced two different reports for G13 soon for May 26th, this one and this report. I think one of them should actually be for May 27th G13 soon so I'm just checking to see if there was a mistake. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 16:58, 20 November 2023 (UTC)

@Liz See Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Olympics#Draftified_Olympian_microstubs. The second one was manually generated after a code update to exclude Olympian microstubs which aren't actually eligible for G13. Both reports are for 26 May but the later one is the correct one. – SD0001 (talk) 18:48, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
I don't understand. Look at the G13 list for Wednesday or Thursday's G13 list. All of those drafts are due to be deleted. Liz Read! Talk! 00:27, 21 November 2023 (UTC)

User:SDZeroBot/G13 soon

Hey, SD0001,

It's been a while! I guess that's because problems so rarely pop up with your bot these days, fortunately.

But for some reason, the User:SDZeroBot/G13 eligible report was issued at the regular time but there is no User:SDZeroBot/G13 soon for December 22nd. But this seems to be the exception as SDZeroBot has been very active otherwise. Can you check and see what the problem is?

I hope, if you celebrate end of the year holidays, then you have a great last week of 2023! Thank you for all of your help this year. Liz Read! Talk! 02:12, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

SDZeroBot

Hello, SD0001,

First, seasons greetings! I hope you are having a good "last week of 2023" and looking forward to the year ahead.

Secondly, do you know what happened with this report? So much information, including the time of last edit, is missing from this report. Is there any way you could "rerun" the report for July 1st where it would include all of the standard data? Otherwise we will be opening drafts, looking at page histories all day long, repeatedly.

Thanks for any help you can provide. Liz Read! Talk! 02:06, 26 December 2023 (UTC)

@Liz There was a bug – the bot tripped up on encountering the broken syntax in Draft:Typhoon_Usagi_(2007). Fixed. Have re-run it for 1 July 2023. Thanks for pointing it out. – SD0001 (talk) 08:08, 26 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for reruning a few reports. However, since then, could you take a look at this one, in the middle of the page? I can't figure out what some of those entries are, there is no time, no page title, no link...I guess we just ignore them or they will show up later on the G13 eligible list? I've been using SDZeroBot's lists since Sept. 2020 and I've never seen this before! THnks and Happy New Years! Liz Read! Talk! 21:46, 29 December 2023 (UTC)
If you mean the rows after Draft:Adam Wardziński, that's just the medal record in the draft getting accidentally included within its excerpt, probably due to some malformed syntax in the draft. – SD0001 (talk) 05:25, 30 December 2023 (UTC)

Page mover granted

Hello, SD0001. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving a redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

If you do not want the page mover right anymore, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Thank you, and happy editing! Extraordinary Writ (talk) 04:52, 29 January 2024 (UTC)

ChristieBot and GridEngine

Hi -- could I ask a favour? I'm at work and won't be able to check on ChristieBot for about ten hours. GridEngine has been shut off, and in theory ChristieBot should still be running, but it's been several hours and I've seen no activity on-wiki. There's a GA backlog drive going on so I would expect to see something. I think it's likely that something has broken. Do you have time to take a look? If it's something at the job scheduling level that you can fix, that would be great. If it's in the code I can get to it this evening. Though I think GridEngine can be turned back on again on request, per the announcement I saw here, while we/I fix whatever needs fixing. Thanks. HotArticlesBot also failed to run last night. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 17:24, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
@StefenTower The bot's main developer is retired. I volunteered to be a co-maintainer so that I can help with restarts and looking into infra issues. In this case, it appears to be an occasional issue due to the code not accounting for transient failures from Wikipedia APIs. But I don't have the bandwidth to look into it or fix it.
For the long-term sustainability of hot article lists, I would suggest trying to set them up with {{database report}} instead. Using options like row_template and silent=yes, I believe it's possible to exactly replicate the formatting of the existing lists. This bot is also actively maintained. Let me know if you do this and need any help. – SD0001 (talk) 08:22, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply and development ideas as well as restarting this bot. I probably could replicate this as I already figured out the SQL that builds the list and I have experience with template building and styling, but rolling that out to all the projects that use HotArticlesBot results seems like the hard (tedious) part. It also seems a bit concerning that doing that changes this from a single bot run to multiple ones. At any rate, I guess it won't hurt to work on an alternative - I'll let you know when I've come up with something and/or need technical assistance. Stefen Towers among the rest! New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

Hello SD0001,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

ChristieBot/Flask

Hi -- since you were willing to become a maintainer and help sort out the setup of ChristieBot, I was hoping I could ask for another favour. Back in 2022 you helped me get an app.py to respond to https://ganfilter.toolforge.org. Under the new setup it is no longer working; I'm not sure why but I suspect it's partly because flask is not installed. I've put in the example app.py code from flask.org that you recommended last time, from here, and I just get "internal server error". I'm guessing that the venv needs to be rebuilt to include the installation of flask. I've added "flask==3.0.0" to the requirements.txt but am hesitant to rebuild the venv as I don't really understand that mechanism and don't want to disable the bot by screwing it up. If you have a moment, could you let me know what I need to do to get the example app.py to respond? If you don't have time, no problem. Thanks. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 10:11, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Mike Christie, you can see what packages are installed by running webservice python3.11 shell, then ~/www/python/venv/bin/pip list. Flask 3.0.3 is already installed.
Looks like the issue is that the webservice is running on the python3.9 image, while the cronjobs run on the python3.11 image. Venvs are specific to python versions, which is confirmed by going into a python3.9 shell and attempting pip list (it doesn't work). So just restart the webservice and have it run on python3.11. – SD0001 (talk) 15:48, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
That worked. Thanks again! Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 18:11, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

Regarding Good article promotions...

@SD0001:Hello and good night! Sorry for bothering you in case you are busy but i need to notify two issues regarding this page (https://sdzerobot.toolforge.org/gans?user=KGRAMR): The Wing of Madoola listing has an erroneous date (1970-01-01) instead of the date when it was approved by the reviewer (2023-12-28) and Ruiner Pinball (which was approved on 2024-03-12) is not listed there at all despite that i am the person who nominated it, which is odd to say the least. If you can fix those issues in anyway i would be grateful but if not then no worries, it's just some odd stuff i noticed. Thanks and have a good day :) Roberth Martinez (talk) 02:42, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

@KGRAMR I've fixed the inconsistencies manually in the database. Ruiner Pinball was incorrectly being attributed to Shooterwalker because of this edit. – SD0001 (talk) 13:45, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
@SD0001:Thank you so much and sorry for the bothering! Roberth Martinez (talk) 15:35, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for your work on scripts like GAN helper, GAR helper, and DYK helper :) 48JCL (talk) 00:56, 28 May 2024 (UTC)

DYK/script

Hello SD0001, thank you for writing User:SD0001/GAN-helper.js. I was wondering if it was possible to write a script that helps with reviewing DYK nominations just like User:SD0001/GAN-helper.js or can the former script be updated with such ability? I'll be on the lookout for your response. dxneo (talk) 22:16, 12 June 2024 (UTC)

GAN-helper is for opening nominations. Reviewing nominations is quite different. For GANs, there's User:Novem Linguae/Scripts/GANReviewTool. Maybe NL would be interested in making a DYK review tool too. – SD0001 (talk) 11:05, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
*pinging Novem Linguae. dxneo (talk) 12:47, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
Sorry my friend. I'm probably too busy to take this on. You may want to post at WP:US/R. That's where I originally got the idea for GANReviewTool :) –Novem Linguae (talk) 13:13, 13 June 2024 (UTC)

Quarry bug

Hello, SD0001,

Could you look again at this phab ticket? The solution didn't resolve any of the problems I'm having, the queries just run endlessly and never finish. Just look at the current list of queries and you can see it's affecting a lot of users. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 04:43, 15 June 2024 (UTC)

SDZeroBot Lint report issue

Letting you know that I think your SDZeroBot is having an issue with the Linter reports it updates. I noticed yesterday that the error counts were counting high (Articles by Lint Errors for one was displaying 21+ errors for all 1000 displaying entries, when I know for a fact that we have it down to 2 errors max per article (barring any recent flairup)), and now today, two of the reports terminated their updates due to timing out (600 sec). There's no current replag on the Wikipedia servers, so thinking this might be a bot issue and not a server issue. Thanks, Zinnober9 (talk) 15:44, 14 June 2024 (UTC)

Please contact the editor who set up the reports. The bot just executes the query you give it. Perhaps a new kind of lint error was introduced that is causing the error counts and query runtime to grow. – SD0001 (talk) 17:07, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
Ah, apologies. The pages say who the bot updating the pages are, but not who to contact when issues occur, so thought you were the person to contact. I'll see if we can get those pages to display the person to contact, and see if Galobtter knows what's up. Thanks, Zinnober9 (talk) 20:29, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
A toolforge problem has been reported on VPT. That is probably the root cause. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:49, 15 June 2024 (UTC)

Feverfew

Hi SD0001, I've created a new tool for checking links in articles and posted it here: Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) § Feverfew – A new link checker tool. I hope if you have time, you can give me feedback on it. Thank you! Plantaest (talk) 16:59, 22 June 2024 (UTC)

Hey, quick note

The table of drafts by age and size at User:BD2412/sandbox/Drafts that was being updated by SDZeroBot has gone kerplunk. Is this fixable? Cheers! BD2412 T 03:37, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

@BD2412 I've updated the SQL, so it should work now. – SD0001 (talk) 10:18, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

DYK multi-nom question

Hi SD0001, just came across Template:Did you know nominations/Dissolution Grip. This is a multi-nom of two articles, but states only one QPQ is needed. My understanding is that the variable QPQ requirement is recent, so I thought I'd check if this was an expected outcome of the script. (Not a comment on the individual nom, just came across it and it raised the generic question in my mind.) Best, CMD (talk) 11:26, 6 August 2024 (UTC)

The text is generated by Module:NewDYKnomination – which currently doesn't consider the number of articles in the hook while determining the count. Just the nominator's previous count and whether DYK backlog mode is active, are taken into account. The number should be treated as "number of QPQs per article" until it is fixed. – SD0001 (talk) 18:19, 15 August 2024 (UTC)

Bot displaying non-free images outside of article space

Greetings. SDZeroBot is displaying a non-free image (File:Shooting of Donald Trump.webp) on User:A smart kitten/databaseReports/X3 a total of 7 times, all in violation of WP:NFCC. There's no compelling reason I can see (maybe I'm wrong) that the image needs to be displayed on this bot maintained page. Could it not be made into a link, as I've linked the image in this message? Thanks, --Hammersoft (talk) 17:38, 15 August 2024 (UTC)

cc @A smart kitten – to fix this, I'd suggest avoiding the complex SQL to generate links and instead use the template parameters – see Template:Database_report#wikilinks. In this case, you can put log_title and log_namespace separately in the select clause, and set |wikilinks=2:2, 4:c6:show and |hide=6. – SD0001 (talk) 18:15, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the ping, and Hammersoft for bringing this up. I apologise for the NFCC violations - I've implemented the change to the template parameters, and the file is now being linked to rather than displayed. Thanks also for the pointer on how to do this within the template, SD0001 [/gen] - I originally thought I'd have to (do something like) implement a conditional statement to add a colon before the {{namespace name}} call if the namespace in question wasn't NS0, but this is a much better way! All the best :) ‍—‍a smart kitten[meow] 20:22, 15 August 2024 (UTC)

DYK-helper feature request

Would you be able to prevent a user from making a nomination if they don't provide a QPQ in the form? (redlinked "pending" doesn't count either). I'm not sure if this new rule is gonna hold up, but it'd be helpful to have as an alternate version. theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 19:42, 19 August 2024 (UTC)

Technically it's possible of course, but I'd imagine it would trip up a lot of people who do QPQs after creating the nomination. – SD0001 (talk) 14:07, 20 August 2024 (UTC)

Special:WantedTemplates

I noticed a bunch of new "transclusions of non-existing templates" pop-up pointing to User:SDZeroBot/sync/MediaWiki:Gadget-WikiMiniAtlas.js. Would it be possible for you to add

// <nowiki>

at the top of that page, and

// </nowiki>

at the bottom of the page? This will prevent the backend software from thinking that the page is transcluding templates that don't exist here like Template:H:h Help. Since the <nowiki>...</nowiki> is inside of javascript comments, it won't impact the functionality of the script. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 15:31, 7 September 2024 (UTC)

This was from testing of buggy code. I've blanked the page. – SD0001 (talk) 18:40, 7 September 2024 (UTC)

Editor of the Year

  Editor of the Week
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week in recognition of your great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)

User:Hey man im josh submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:

I nominate SD0001 to be Editor of the Week for their technical work and motivational acumen. Recently named Tech Contributor of the Year, they run SDZeroBot, a bot which allow editors to generate their own database reports based on specified SQL queries, which also elegantly generates some of our most useful reports, such as NPP sorting, AfC sorting, draftify watch, and much, much more. They have been a member of the Bot Approvals Group since late 2020, where they spend time reviewing and processing requests at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval. They have also spent time creating a number of useful scripts that are widely used by the community at large. Not stopping there, D0001 has also made significant contributions elsewhere, such as to existing gadgets, including Twinkle and the Articles for Creation Helper Script, as well as having made contributions to core MediaWiki. Many users speak to how much they appreciate SD's contributions and motivational skills. Recognition for all they've done is the least that we can do. This nomination was seconded by Novem Linguae, MPGuy2824, Queen of Hearts, TechnoSquirrel69 and Sohom Datta

Thank you so much, you all! It feels great to be recognized. I had no idea we had such an award along with a process for handing it out. (Let me know if you need any scripting help for organizing EOTW :D) – SD0001 (talk) 18:39, 7 September 2024 (UTC)

Minor parsing error w/r/t User:SDZeroBot/NPP sorting

User:SD0001/Making user scripts load faster question

Hi SD0001. Thanks for writing this and maintaining it. Would it be possible to change the behavior for some mobile device browsers? There doesn't seem to be a reliable way to force a page refresh on iOS using Safari (i.e., without a real keyboard). I wouldn't suggest completely disabling it, but perhaps a much shorter cache duration like an hour? Regards. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 05:28, 24 September 2024 (UTC)

For now, I simply added &&window.innerWidth>768 to the outer check. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 19:49, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
@Daniel Quinlan Some people have found the snippet particularly useful on mobile as mobile internet speeds are lower. I am not sure if it's a common requirement to purge script caches on mobile, to be worth adding in extra code to set a different cache duration. It's worth keeping the minified blob as small as possible. – SD0001 (talk) 08:15, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
That's a good point about speeds. I ended up using a blank page to lower the age values to 1 second so they'll be refreshed. That only helps with the resources being loaded on that page, of course. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 03:28, 29 September 2024 (UTC)

Maintainer of HotArticlesBot: move config page?

You're currently listed as a maintainer of HotArticlesBot. Would you be willing to change the bot so that it gets its info from, say, Wikipedia:WikiProject/Hot articles config.json? I'd like to open up editing of the config to template editors but can't do that if it's in user space; only admins and int admins have access. (I already convinced MusikAnimal to do the same with the Popular pages config.) Izno (talk) 00:07, 29 September 2024 (UTC)

Done @Izno. The bot will now read its conf from Wikipedia:WikiProject/Hot articles config.json. – SD0001 (talk) 14:19, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
Thanks. I don't see a change in the repo that's posted on the bot's page. Has that been synced lately or are you hiding the adjustment in another repo? Izno (talk) 17:42, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
I don't have access to that repo. I updated the source link to point to my fork.
Not that I think this bot should continue to exist. It can be deprecated once I figure out a good way to make {{database report}} support templatized queries (fetch a query from another page, but substitute some values). Even without that, it's still easy to generate such lists, as already done in a few cases like Wikipedia:WikiProject Louisville/Hot articles 2. – SD0001 (talk) 20:19, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
