  • Administrator elections will take place this month. Administrator elections are an alternative to RFA that is a gentler process for candidates due to secret voting and multiple people running together. The call for candidates is July 9–15, the discussion phase is July 18–22, and the voting phase is July 23–29. Get ready to submit your candidacy, or (with their consent) to nominate a talented candidate!

Silverstone

Held a race for the 60th, the British race for the 59th + one edition of the Anniversary GP. Overall in the circuit history there have been 60 races. Island92 (talk) 10:49, 26 July 2025 (UTC)

I know that. But that's not what was written at 2025 British Grand Prix. At 2025 British Grand Prix, you wrote "The event was held at the Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire for the 60th time in the circuit's history". The "event" unambiguous refers to the British Grand Prix. The 70th Anniversary Grand Prix is a seperate event. So the "event" (i.e. the British Grand Prix) was held at Silverstone for the 59th time. 2025 Belgian Grand Prix

We are already under race conditions as the pit lane was opened more than 30 minutes ago. Island92 (talk) 12:45, 27 July 2025 (UTC)

No, we aren't. "Race conditions" means the race has started. And the "starts from pit lane" note should be in present tense until they have actually started from the pit lane. SSSB (talk) 12:51, 27 July 2025 (UTC)

Hungaroring

Ask user @DH85868993: for any doubt. There is a certain consistency for all other track. That year refers to the layout used since, as you above (2003-present) read Hungaroring, not Hungarian Grand Prix. The intro of the article tells you since when the race has been held (1986). Island92 (talk) 22:06, 28 July 2025 (UTC)

The track image layout displayed has been used since 2003, not 1986. Do you want (1986-present)? You have to remove the circuit image then to report, generally, since when the Hungarian Grand Prix has been held.Island92 (talk) 22:11, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
@Island92: There is not consistency with all other tracks, because I checked. It's also not relevant, I would be making this argument regardless.
There is nothing in the text to suggest that we are specifically refering to the layout. You say that "That year refers to the layout used since" but that's not what the text says. The text says "Hungaroring (2003-present)". To me, this means that the event has been at the Hungaroring since 2003 to present. What the image is of, doesn't change anything. But, the event has been held at the Hungaroring since 1986. If you wanted it to refer to the layout the text needs to reflect this, the text needs to say "Layout of the Hungaroring (2003-present). SSSB (talk) 22:16, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
The event has been held at the Hungaroring since 1986, but not in the layout track displayed currently because if you go to 1986 Hungarian Grand Prix an old layout was used. Where is the sense in there to report 1986-present with the layout used since 2003? Island92 (talk) 22:21, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
How many times do I have to repeat this? Are you even reading my responses? The "sense" is that we should be "reporting" the years the track has hosted the Hungarian Grand Prix, because that is what the text says. We should not be reporting they years that the layout has hosted the Grand Prix because that is not what the text says. SSSB (talk) 22:32, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
No? See multiple other tracks with the same practice. Island92 (talk) 22:34, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
I don't care. That doesn't make the practice right. But, if you want to go down that route, I can just change "the practice" at all those other tracks. Or point out that there are multiple other tracks that use the practice I think is best. SSSB (talk) 22:37, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
Nah, I would wait for DH85868993 response as I once saw him making my same edit and hence I consider him an user with more experience than me for these kind of edits. Island92 (talk) 22:42, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
You just admitted to pinging someone because they once made the edit you support. You think you can just make this go away by insisting I wait for your attempt at Wikipedia:Canvassing to come to fruition. SSSB (talk) 23:02, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
It doesn't work like that here. I find that user edit more logical than your, pending is approval or not basing it on his experience. The whole infobox already says when the first edition took place. See Australian Grand Prix that says Albert Park circuit 2022-present. See Singapore Grand Prix that says Marina Bay Street Circuit that says 2023-present. See Abu Dhabi Grand Prix that says Yas Marina Circuit 2021-present. I always found this practice which did not come from my interpretation of things. Island92 (talk) 05:12, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
No, it doesn't work like that here: you cannot just selective ask other editors who you know you agree with you to attempt to bully me into your way of thinking. "The whole infobox already says when the first edition took place." irrelevant. Because the first Hungarian Grand Prix was not 1986. Nor was the first Australian Grand Prix 1996 (which was the first Australian Grand Prix at Melbourne). And I don't care how Australian Grand Prix, Singapore Grand Prix and Abu Dhabi Grand Prix do it because, as I said before, " That doesn't make the practice right. But, if you want to go down that route, I can just change "the practice" at all those other tracks. Or point out that there are multiple other tracks that use the practice I think is best." SSSB (talk) 07:12, 29 July 2025 (UTC)

As has been identified above, there is currently a mixture of practices - some articles list the years the race has been held at that circuit, others list the years of the current track layout. Personally it wouldn't worry me if we removed the years altogether, to minimise possible confusion. DH85868993 (talk) 09:35, 29 July 2025 (UTC)

Well, there we are @Island92:. As I tried to explain, both are reasonable and both are in use. How do you feel about DH8868993's suggestion to remove the years altoegther? SSSB (talk) 21:16, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
Ok, better. Island92 (talk) 21:29, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
Excellent. I am going to boldly start doing that tomorrow. If I face resistance, I will take it Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Formula One (unless you take either of these actions first) SSSB (talk) 21:32, 31 July 2025 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – August 2025

News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2025).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, G15, has been enacted. It applies to pages generated by a large language model (LLM) without human review.
  • Following a request for comment, there is a new policy outlining the granting of permissions to view the IP addresses of temporary accounts. Temporary account deployment on the English Wikipedia is currently scheduled for September 2025, and editors can request access to the permission ahead of time. Admins are encouraged to keep an eye on the request page; there will likely be a flood of editors requesting the permission when they realize they can no longer see IP addresses.

Speedy deletion nomination of Andrea Stella (disambiguation)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Andrea Stella (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is:

  • a disambiguation page with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" which lists only one extant Wikipedia page (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • a disambiguation page that lists zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • a redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" whose target is neither a disambiguation page nor page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 20:26, 5 September 2025 (UTC)

2028 f1 season

You want I delete 2028 f1 season page? Amini1999ad (talk) 17:04, 2 November 2025 (UTC)

@Amini1999ad: No, I have asked adimistrators to delete the page. Because the article read "2028 Formula One World Championship" which is not a Wikipedia article, but a random sentence. If you can expand it into a proper article, you can do it at Draft:2028 Formula One World Championship (because it is not ready to be an article yet). SSSB (talk) 17:13, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
My goal is to create the 2028 Formula One season page, but I still can't create or edit pages on Wikipedia very well. Amini1999ad (talk) 09:11, 3 November 2025 (UTC)
@Amini1999ad: Even if you created it perfectly yesterday, it would still have been deleted, because it is WP:TOOSOON. Copy and paste the tables from 2026 Formula One World Championship into the draft page to start, and then remove the information that is not relevant. I can give you a hand with that this afternoon, if you need it. SSSB (talk) 09:51, 3 November 2025 (UTC)
I don't know why you are resisting creating the page sooner and providing information to others. Amini1999ad (talk) 09:56, 3 November 2025 (UTC)
@Amini1999ad: I'm not "resisting", I am being pragmatic and honest and following Wikipedia's policies. At this time, 2028 Formula One World Championship does not meet the requirements necessary for article creation - specifically WP:SIGCOV is not met at this time. That is just the reality. • Due to the result of a recent motion, a rough consensus of administrators at the arbitration enforcement noticeboard may impose an expanded topic ban on Israel, Israelis, Jews, Judaism, Palestine, Palestinians, Islam, and/or Arabs, if an editor's Arab-Israeli conflict topic ban is determined to be insufficient to prevent disruption. At least one diff per area expanded into should be cited.

  • Following a motion, the Iskandar323 further POV pushing motion has been rescinded.

  • Special report: What actually happened during the Wikimedia security incident?
A horrifying exploit took place, which could have had catastrophic and far-reaching consequences if used maliciously; instead, it seems to have happened by accident and was used for childish vandalism. How did this happen, and what did the script actually do?

Thank you

Guideline and policy news

Technical news

  • Changes to user permissions made from Meta are now included in the local user permissions log (T6055).
  • The autoconfirmed user group will soon be modified such that the four-day account age requirement begins when an account makes its first edit (T418484).

Arbitration

  • The arbitration case SchroCat has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case closed on 15 April.
  • Per a recent motion, appeals of blocks from the conflict-of-interest VRT queue are, by default, appealed on-wiki through the normal unblock process. However, they may be heard by the Committee if COIVRTers disagree on the interpretation of the evidence or believe ArbCom would be better suited to hear the appeal. Administrators are also advised that loosening or lifting such blocks without the consent of someone with access to the queue or ArbCom can be grounds for desysopping.
  • Per a recent motion, restrictions issued directly by the Committee may now be enforced with blocks which work exactly like contentious topic blocks.
  • The arbitration case Maghreb has been closed.
