Thank you very much
The RfC discussion to eliminate portals was closed May 12, with the statement "There exists a strong consensus against deleting or even deprecating portals at this time." This was made possible because you and others came to the rescue. Thank you for speaking up.
By the way, the current issue of the Signpost features an article with interviews about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.
I'd also like to let you know that the Portals WikiProject is working hard to make sure your support of portals was not in vain. Toward that end, we have been working diligently to innovate portals, while building, updating, upgrading, and maintaining them. The project has grown to 80 members so far, and has become a beehive of activity.
Our two main goals at this time are to automate portals (in terms of refreshing, rotating, and selecting content), and to develop a one-page model in order to make obsolete and eliminate most of the 150,000 subpages from the portal namespace by migrating their functions to the portal base pages, using technologies such as selective transclusion. Please feel free to join in on any of the many threads of development at the WikiProject's talk page, or just stop by to see how we are doing. If you have any questions about portals or portal development, that is the best place to ask them.
If you would like to keep abreast of developments on portals, keep in mind that the project's members receive updates on their talk pages. The updates are also posted here, for your convenience.
Again, we can't thank you enough for your support of portals, and we hope to make you proud of your decision. Sincerely, — The Transhumanist 18:08, 26 May 2018 (UTC)

@Shellwood Re: Margaret Sanger. OK, I suppose. It's not a big deal; it's already mentioned in the next graf. I just thought it worthwhile to hoist that info in thumbnail form to the start of the article, because it's one of the major points someone would want to know about her at a glance. I came to the article, for instance, to fact-check that point in particular. Far from being destructive, I thought I was helping the next person like myself to come along and verify that point in haste. 162.221.175.130 (talk) 16:15, 13 June 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.221.175.130 (talk)

Albere Schröder Clarification
I wanted to follow up on the page Albert Schröder. I just want to politely clarify that the article is false and was being done so for the purposes of a University project. Following it being flagged as a hoax I immediately flagged it for speedy deletion as I do not want it to remain on wikipedia. I wanted to thank you for the time you have spent to fact check the work on wikipedia. The thesis I am working on in University has been to document the increase load of false or misleading information that has been created on the web. Over the past few months myself and two undergraduates have been stress-testing information sites of varying reliability in order to gauge how efficient and fast that site’s administrative community is at eliminating and fact checking false information. My apologies for unnecessarily taking up your time however hopefully the results of my research may hopefully, in the future, be applied to better help the curating community in combatting the spread of disinformation online. Infinityplatinum (talk) 5:53, 4 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Infinityplatinum: Please don't repeat this experiment here again. Even though your thoughts may have been sincere Wikipedia does not allow such testing, see WP:HOAX. Shellwood (talk) 10:36, 4 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Infinityplatinum: This was disrupting Wikipedia to illustrate a point and if you do anything like this ever again, I will block you indefinitely. Deliberately putting false information on Wikipedia is vandalism - do not think you are the Frank Abagnale of Wikipedia (and even Frank admits he was stupid and paid the price for his actions). Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:19, 9 July 2018 (UTC)

I blocked for 24 hours because they violated WP:3RR. Their unblock request shows they were editing in good faith, if disruptively, so a vandalism block is not appropriate. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:16, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Ritchie333: I hear what you say, but the content is still there. Labeling the band as "a white colonialist one" solely on the basis of their band name is baseless and OR. No sources or comments from the group themselves on issues like colonialism or politics in general can be found, so it is safe to say that this slur should be removed from the article at once. Shellwood (talk) 10:49, 10 July 2018 (UTC)
Cameroon
Please stop reverting totalitarian to authoritarian. 1) You’ve provided a link from Vox, which is a very UNRELIABLE news source largely due to its bias to the left-wing. 2) Cameroon’s President has granted himself unlimited power over any laws including constitution, dictator for 42 years and continuous suppression of Anglophone population, by international standards, Cameroon can be regarded as totalitarian regime. 59.102.33.100 (talk) 06:20, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
- Provide support for your claim that Vox is an unreliable source, simply screaming "left wing biased" won't help you. And a source that supports your claim that Cameroon is a totalitarian state. Shellwood (talk) 06:25, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

Huggle message
Hello. I just want to let you know that in the coming version of Huggle (3.4.5), there will be a new feature of editing pages directly inside Huggle using an edit form. The edit form functions same as the web one. The default shortcut for this is E and the shortcut for "Edit page in browser" (which previously was E) has changed to Alt+E. If you want more non-automated edits or you prefer editing pages in the browser, you can swap the shortcuts of the above. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me or Petrb. An apology letter
Hi Shellwood, I'd like to offer up my sincerest apologies. I came back from summer camp a couple days ago. I guess I was missing being at camp because I, along with a couple other friends, found my camp's page on Wikipedia and started to edit in a bunch of inside jokes into the page. At the time, I didn't fully realize that what I was doing was wrong, but I realize it now, and I'm very, very sorry. Wikipedia is a great site with a great mission, and by vandalizing one of its pages, I put Wikipedia's integrity at risk. I also wasted your time and caused the page to be shut down for a couple days, leaving it locked to other people who might have legitimate edits they want to add. Again, I'm very sorry for intentionally spreading false information on Wikipedia and hope you can forgive me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.251.211.221 (talk)
Huggle vandalism messages apparently not delivered for an IPs reverted edits to Aroostook Band of Micmac
@PlyrStar93: For what its worth, I was curious about continued vandalism from User talk:2601:199:8180:AB1:3D21:DFB2:6413:3BCB and checked to see if the user was reported. The edits tonight from this IP have been reverted by the three of us. It seems that no Huggle messages concerning the addition of a link to the History of the Knights Templar article in Aroostook Band of Micmac have been delivered to the user, only warnings with respect to the edits the user made to International Romani Union. The IP may soon have enough warnings to be reported anyway but I am surprised by the absence of messages concerning changes to the Aroostook article. You may know there is some legend about Knights Templar successors making contact with this tribe about 90 years after the Templars were dissolved but that is not mentioned in either the Aroostook article or the History of the Knights Templar article. It is a far-fetched theory in any event, apparently with only a few minor coincidences to support it. There is also no mention of Romani in the Knights Templar article. I don't know where that came from but it looks to be totally invented and a reference to something in modern times. In any event, it seems strange that no Huggle messages were delivered for several reverted edits to the Aroostook article Donner60 (talk) 04:20, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Donner60: Huggle will not add new warnings when it reaches lv4, and edits made by the IP at Aroostook Band of Micmac were made after lv4 warning issued. -★- PlyrStar93 →Message me. ← 04:23, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

By the way, I have seen both of your edits for quite some time and at least this will give me the chance to tell you that you both do a great job at reverting vandalism. 2017 Madagascar plague outbreak
Hi Shellwood--I'm doing an assignment for an English class, and instead of writing a research paper, the professor has asked us to edit an existing Wikipedia article. Fear not, I already have a degree and two advanced degrees, and I've had research papers published. I have a deep interest in the plague, and see an opportunity to add to your article in the background section. There also is a stub page on the 2014 outbreak, and I think that could easily be incorporated into your article. When finished, I believe we will have created a stronger article. NPR Newsletter No.12 30 July 2018
|
Hello Shellwood, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!
- June backlog drive
Overall the June backlog drive was a success, reducing the last 3,000 or so to below 500. However, as expected, 90% of the patrolling was done by less than 10% of reviewers.
Since the drive closed, the backlog has begun to rise sharply again and is back up to nearly 1,400 already. Please help reduce this total and keep it from raising further by reviewing some articles each day.
- New technology, new rules
- New features are shortly going to be added to the Special:NewPagesFeed which include a list of drafts for review, OTRS flags for COPYVIO, and more granular filter preferences. More details can be found at this page.
- Probationary permissions: Now that PERM has been configured to allow expiry dates to all minor user rights, new NPR flag holders may sometimes be limited in the first instance to 6 months during which their work will be assessed for both quality and quantity of their reviews. This will allow admins to accord the right in borderline cases rather than make a flat out rejection.
- Current reviewers who have had the flag for longer than 6 months but have not used the permissions since they were granted will have the flag removed, but may still request to have it granted again in the future, subject to the same probationary period, if they wish to become an active reviewer.
- Editathons
- Editathons will continue through August. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.
- The Signpost
- The next issue of the monthly magazine will be out soon. The newspaper is an excellent way to stay up to date with news and new developments between our newsletters. If you have special messages to be published, or if you would like to submit an article (one about NPR perhaps?), don't hesitate to contact the editorial team here.

Have you thought of running for adminship? Makes vandal fighting a lot easier! Λυδαcιτγ 09:42, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Audacity: Hi and thanks for your message. I have never considered running for admin and since 99% of my activities here are restricted to just one area I dont think I would stand a very good chance in becoming an admin based on the recent RFAs. The community is very demanding on its candidates. But I do occasionally miss having the ability to protect pages and preform other administrative functions related to countering vandalism. Hello, I'm Shellwood....I reverted... because it did not appear constructive....
Hello to You too,
If You are short on time, please, read this:
I have no idea what made You thinking or percept my edit as "unconstructive". Would You please explain it, at least shortly?
--Albord2005 (talk) 07:17, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
if You have some time, You could read this:
i guess reverting 100s of unknown users edits of unknown articles made with unknown purposes is a rrrrreally hard job to do and I respect it very much, no doubt here!
But... I'm sorry if my talk or edit appears to You as unconstructive or worse, but if You would even slightly knew the material (like reading a couple of paragraphs or else) You wouldn't offend me in a such polite-like but very much "act-before-you-think" way. My Apologies again but I rrrrreally don't like thinking that somebody with authoritative and "final-say" moderating rights is thinking that i'm not thinking.
all the best--Albord2005 (talk) 07:17, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for reverting this guy. I just went through most of his edits and all he is doing is deliberately introducing fake stats on album sales (mostly on Metallica articles). Just thought an extra eye would help! Cheers. Robvanvee 10:51, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
