Do you still think the Oppenheimer page should be merged? Let me know if you do, and I'll leave the tag, otherwise I will remove it in a day or two (I don't much like the look of all this wikipedia-internal cruft at the beginning of articles). Cheers, Ngio 20:51, 8 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please remove all the information from Wikipedia that you have copied directly from recently published books and websites. If the content remains a formal complaint will be lodged with Wikipedia administration on behalf of the publishers. Regards --Valeren 06:20, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just glancing at your recent posts, entries like Proclia, and the sort, are very well done: with useful back references to the primary source for easy verification. But something like Agreus, which is copied almost word for word, is not allowed. Simply replacing a few words or re-arranging a sentence is not sufficient to avoid this being classed as plagiarism -- especially when it comprises 30% or more of a page published online by some web-author: whether that be Theoi or Encyclopedia Mythica, Greek Mythology Link, or any other web source or print-published book. Wikipedia is, of course a high profile site, and is increasingly being held to a higher standard, so care on what material is used needs to be taken.
Consulting primary sources should at least create a need to summarize material in your own words and so avoid the problem. The translations themselves are probably, in most cases, copyright under American law -- to which Wikipedia is held compliant -- but the information within can easily be paraphrased. Anyway, keep up the good work with organising and cataloging the mythology articles. --Valeren 11:34, 7 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just a friendly reminder to use an edit summary when proposing deletion for an article. Edit summary usage is always good, but it is especially important that edit summaries are used when proposing deletion. The reason for this is that articles proposed for deletion that later have the {{prod}} tag removed should not be proposed for deletion again, but rather sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. The only easy way to check if an article was previously proposed for deletion is to look at the edit history and the edit summaries people have left before. Thanks! Corcyra

edit

Hello, I noticed that you created an article Corcyra (mythology) on April 4. This is the same as Korkyra that you edited three days earlier on April 1. Korkyra, the original article, was created 18 June 2006. There was no reason to create another article with exactly the same name but with latin spelling especially if you knew about the pre-existence of Korkyra. Linking to two articles with the same mythological figure but different spellings creates confusion. Therefore I suggest you merge Corcyra (mythology) with Korkyra. Thanks. More on categories

edit

I notice you've been editing some categories, e.g. in Terry Pratchett. Please note that when there's a DEFAULTSORT statement in the article (e.g. {{DEFAULTSORT|Pratchett, Terry}}) then it's not necessary to include "|Pratchett, Terry" as a parameter to every category - the defaultsort statement does it all for you automatically. -- Arwel (talk) 01:16, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

No sooner than I find one, but I find yet another...! Stephenb (Talk) 15:12, 15 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hey, no problem, I just thought I'd bring these things to your attention. I find that a lot of the time articles (especially long-standing articles, or articles that have well-known subjects) that don't have a category is because of vandalism. This is usually an anon IP address "blanking" certain areas, such as anything under "References", including the "interwiki" links you seem to be confused about. Usually, the edit summary has no comment about why it was all removed, too. The key thing is to check the history, and if all the categories have been removed recently, do a comparison with a previous version to see what else got removed.
Incidentally, another reason that articles don't have categories (or don't appear to have) is because of a broken reference tag - 80% of the time this is also due to vandalism! Anyway, thanks for the hard work categorizing articles (keep it up! It's appreciated!), just be careful :) Stephenb (Talk) 11:17, 16 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I meant to put that note on corenbot's page. :) I'll duplicate it. Give me a minute, and I'll explain how this can be handled. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:09, 14 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
The bot searches for text strings across the internet. It picked up a site that had mirrored Wikipedia and noticed the duplication. This isn't a copyright infringement, since the material is released under GFDL, but ordinarily we would have to provide a direct link to the source article to show who wrote it. GFDL requires that we give the authors credit. In this case, it's all right, since you wrote it. (See Help:Merge and Wikipedia:Splitting if you want information on how we usually handle moving information.)
But I'm not sure that a new article is necessary. The person who removed the information on the goddess was not necessarily adding constructive content. I would like to suggest that we restore the original article to its first form and then delete the new one as unneeded. If you think that Korati the goddess should be separated from Korati the village, we can do that, but we should figure out first which one should be moved. If Korati the goddess is the better known use of the term, the village should be moved. If the village is the better known term, the new goddess article should probably stay.
I'm watching your page, so please just let me know how you'd like to proceed. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:13, 14 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure. To tell the truth I didn't write either of the pages. I just found the original version of the article that listed the goddess and copy and pasted the information across. I know nothing about either of the topics and I certainly don't know which one would be better known. I'm just categorising articles at the moment and happened to notice this (whilst checking the previous versions of the article to see if there were categories that had gotten edited out. T@nn (talk)

Oh, you're right. My bad. :) I don't know why I thought you were the original contributor. Then what we need to do is merge it back in. If we want to split it out, we'd have to follow the processes at that page. Otherwise, we're doing a "copy & paste" move, which is a problem under GFDL, since we are required to give credit to our contributors. I'll go ahead and restore the previous information and delete the new article under WP:CSD#G6. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:19, 14 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Okay, then, and thank you. Sorry for the hassle. It's been months since I got back into Wikipedia and there's a lot I have to relearn. T@nn (talk) 13:20, 14 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
No problem. :) It's a big wiki; there's tons to learn & remember! Anyway, I've restored the article as it was before it was hijacked. Ordinarily, I'd leave a note about it to the contributor who hijacked it, but since this was an IP and it was some time back, there's probably no point. If either of these subjects were longer, it might be worth splitting them out, but it's hard to know, when neither of them has much text or is sourced. Thanks for salvaging that removed information. :) If you ever encounter a situation like that again and want help splitting it out, please feel free to drop me a note at my talk page, and I'll give you a hand. It's not really difficult--we just have to note in our edit summary where the material came from and also make a "null" edit with an edit summary at the source article--but I myself often like to see processes that are new to me demonstrated before I try them out. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:25, 14 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Was that a problem with, for example, Eau Claire, Wisconsin? (By the way, what is a "broken reference category"?) Butwhatdoiknow (talk) 21:11, 19 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
The category is called "Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting" and it is a hidden category that is populated with, for example, pages that has, in red at the bottom,

"ref tags exist, but no references tag was found". I've been trying to help with the backlog of articles in that category and, I have to admit, I'm not as experienced an editor as I should be. I'll make sure to comment out (or move) the references below the reflists instead.

A similar issue.

edit
Hi-your moving of the reflist to below the various Wisconsin county navigational boxes -the Wisconsin county templates is getting confusing. This looks like the reflist section is cut off from the rest of the article with the template in the way. Please see also the Political subdivisions of Wisconsin article. Proposed deletion of Hands Off the People of Iran

edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Hands Off the People of Iran, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Notability/Verifiability; written in the prose of an activist pamphlet

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 'uSgheb (talkcontribs) 23:28, 15 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Extremely minor deity about whom I cannot find any sources aside from the single one cited. One three-line entry in an encyclopedia of gods is not enough to justify having an article.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Kurdish radio personalities

edit

A tag has been placed on Category:Kurdish radio personalities requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read!
