Edmonton Trappers

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! As you likely noticed, I have been reverting or re-writing some of your edits, particularaly to the Edmonton Trappers article, mostly for consistancy and spelling. However, I wanted to discuss two issues with you rather than just engaging in an edit war. I have repeatedly removed the claim that 11,000 fans attended the Trappers final home game, as Telus Field does not hold remotely close to that number of fans. I was also at that one inning game, and am quite certain that they didnt find a place for 2000 extra people. I would ask that you refrain from re-inserting that claim unless you can provide a verifiable source for it.

Also, I would ask that you refrain from using Wikipedia and the Edmonton baseball articles as a means of promoting the Edmonton baseball history site you evidently intend to create. Signing your name to the link is also a violation of Wikipedia's vanity guidelines.

Also, I noticed the Edmonton's baseball history article you created. As it stands right now, that article will likely be deleted quickly as long as there is no content. I did notice in the history that you attempted to create a list of team records for Edmonton's early teams before blanking the page. If you like, I can help you with formatting charts, or even put that information into a chart form for you. Though if it does get deleted before you (and other editors, nobody can claim ownership of an article) can populate it, it can be recreated at a future date. Resolute 15:55, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Just wanted to let you know that I am putting this article up for deletion, as it is a duplicate article to St. Albert Big River Prospects, which you also created (though I moved to its proper name) as well as being a misspelling. Also, with respect to your article on Brad Cuthbertson, just an FYI: minor league players generally are not considered notable unless they have done something outstanding. Rexall Place sound level

Do you have a link to back up your change to the Rexall Place article that claims noise in the arena hit 124 dB? If not, it should likely be changed back to the highest level that can be backed up with a citation. Currently the highest I've seen is 106 dB. --Bdoserror 03:35, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi, sorry for the confusion. Having an article about that stadium at Diamond Park is fine. The problem is that we have to try to keep the content of the encyclopedia manageable (or at least as manageable as possible, 1.5 million articles is a lot!) and for that reason we can't accept articles about just anything. The most common problem is people creating articles about themselves, their friends, a band they've started, an organization they belong to or something like that. Obviously we do not have the resources to write and maintain a good quality article about every person with internet access. In order to enforce this, we therefore have a set of notability guidelines to weed out articles about unimportant and insignificant things.

The subject of your article, being a fairly large stadium, is probably important enough to have its own article. However, we can't just assume something is important – the article needs to explain this. Your article was only one line of text, and didn't really offer any explanation of importance. (Don't take this personally: hundreds of articles are deleted every day, it's not your fault.) A s I mentioned before, you are welcome to re-write your contribution. Providing a more detailed article will help, of course, but by far the best way to ensure it is kept is to provide sources for what you state in the article – preferably reliable sources. Numbers

Sorry, I had to step in... this is just such a stupid argument. Do you know how ridiculous it sounds to say that a place is the furthest north of any city over 712,000? So, I could say that Calgary is the furthest north of any city over 991,000? Oh wait, I think Toronto is the furthest north of any city over 2,358,987. 500,000 is a nice ROUND number. And last time I checked, 712,000 GREATER THAN 500,000... of course, I'm no math wiz. Anyway, it just sounds better and less anal retentive to say, "over 500,000" rather than over "712,000". I believe the accurate anal population is stated a number of times elsewhere in the article. --Arch26 21:21, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it does have more than 500,000, which is why it was stated that "Edmonton is the northernmost city in North America with a population of OVER 500,000."

To demonstrate, here is a list of other cities with populations of over 500,000:

• Calgary (because 990,000 is OVER 500,000)
• Toronto (because 2.4 million is OVER 500,000)
• Montreal (because 1.5 million is OVER 500,000)
• Vancouver (because 600,000 is over 500,000)

When you look at a map, they often make a dot for cities with populations between 500,000 and 1,000,000. I have never seen a map with a dot for 712,000. Why? Because at some point, you just have to use round numbers as a bracket. Otherwise, it gets totally ridiculous. --Arch26 21:37, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, 700,000 would be better than 712,000, BUT I would say that population milestones are usually very round quarter numbers like 250,000, 500,000, 750,000 and 1,000,000. Grey Cup

Just so you know. The three largest crowds in Grey Cup history were in Montreal, including a record 68,318 for Montreal's 41-6 win over Edmonton in 1977 and 65,255 the last time the game was at the Big O in 2001, when Calgary beat Winnipeg 27-19. Yes I understand Capital Ex is short for Capital Exhibition, but to actually spell it out makes the flow of the article not work as well and assumes the reader needs to know that. The official name is no longer the Capital Exhibition. They changed it to Capital Ex. As far as attendance, that is fine, however, you need sources before you can make statements like that. And the reason the articles name was changed to Baseball in Edmonton, was that it fits a standard naming pattern we have for articles like this. I didn't make the change on my own it was voted on by users of Wikipedia and during the voting period which was a fairly significant period of time you could have made your thoughts known, but it was unanomously voted to change the name to match the other articles of the same type of subject for other cities.--Djsasso 15:30, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Instead of emailing please use talk pages. As for the roster structure in the Northern League. It was correct. You need to reread what was there. It said the exact same thing you wrote but in a much easier to understand way, you needlessly complicated the article. As far as the Fan 960 article goes. I removed it because it was a general statement about independent baseball, not the Golden League itself. Articles should remain specific to the topic. The statement, as presented, belongs on the Independent league baseball article. If there was a source that says that players choose the Golden League in the hopes of returning to affiliated leagues, then it would belong in the GBL article. Re:Rexall Place trivia

If some of the trivia points actually mean anything to the building, they could be integrated into the article in a prose format rather than a point format - i.e., the location of the benches and how the players walk through the concourse to get to the ice surface. The statement arguing Rexall has among the best ice in the league uses a six year old article as its citation. That this statement might have been true in 2002 does not mean it remains so in 2008. Correction to my reversion statement

Heya, so I reverted your addition on Tel Aviv. I was partly incorrect in my statement though. Istanbul is mostly in Europe (I forgot that the Asian bit is part of the city, not just a suburb) and is often treated as a European city. From what I understand, the Middle East ends at the Bosporus (maybe further back) and so the situation is a bit tricky as we have a city in two regions. Hi Telus. I did not exactly say that Art. 121(1A) supports the functioning of the Syariah Court in M'sia. I said that the dual-justice system is supported by Art. 121(1A) of the constitution. Art. 121(1A) says: "(1A) The courts referred to in Clause (1) shall have no jurisdiction in respect of any matter within the jurisdiction of the Syariah courts." Honor killings - ethnic Swedish families

Hi, the article your are referencing does indeed cite honor based violence, but not murders by ethnic Swedish families, therefore it's irrelevant in the Honor killings article. It does specifically mention ethnic Swedish families, but not a single murder case. That is why I reverted your edit. Beatings and death threats aren't murder.

I suppose that you are referring to this section in the article:

In another case cited in the report, a Swedish woman who became pregnant with her partner of Middle Eastern origin was beaten by her family. "They told her they would 'rip the Arab out of her belly' among other threats," Sabuni said. "These are examples of honour crimes in ethnic Swedish families, even though the term 'honour crime' is usually reserved to people of non-Swedish origin."

Nobody died and nobody was charged with murder. Why do you think it should be included in an article about murders based on honor/shame? As it stands, it's irrelevant to the subject of that article. So I tagged it with "Dubious" for now. AadaamS (talk) 07:26, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

I thought I'd stop in and extend an olive branch. It's easy to see editors deleting material, as I am, as villains in a conspiracy to cover up human rights abuses. But really my concern is perspective. If things are bad, we should say they are bad. If things are ok, we should say they're ok. Let me give you an example. I was reading a story about London. Apparently a couple of Muslim men had commented on a woman's clothes, telling her she was dressed too promiscuously and should cover up. Do you know what the headline was? "MODESTY POLICE FORM IN LONDON!" There are many problems in London, as there are everywhere, but the existence of "Modesty police" is not one of them. It is the same here. While some Swedes may have beaten a pregnant woman, it is not enough for us to say "SWEDES LEARN HONOR KILLING FROM MUSLIM IMMIGRANTS". A single event does not indicate a pattern. Murder and assaults happen all the time in countries with millions of people. It is bad journalism to project the motivations of one person or one small group of people onto an entire population. So I'm not protecting anyone or hiding anything. I am merely skeptical. My proposal for you to find more/better sources is a sincere one.
