Sockpuppet accusations

edit

(Suspected sockpuppet template removed)--TexasDex 05:14, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Same post, same interest, same computer.

So obvious.

—Preceding unsigned comment added by Alfred Legrand (talkcontribs) 02:28, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Although this petty and vindictive accusation really doesn't deserve it, I will address and disprove it. Yes, we do often edit from the same IP address. I doubt that you actually know for a fact that we often share IPs, it's more likely a lucky guess based on the statement on ImmortalGoddezz's talk page. But it is correct, because I use a home router to share internet between the computers in this apartment. However your accusation is otherwise unfounded because:
 • Age: Sockpuppets are almost always created briefly for the use of the puppeteer, not used for long, and they never build up much of an edit history. I joined Wikipedia about four years ago, ImmortalGoddezz about three years ago, and we both have substantial edit histories.
 • Edit histories: I have well over a thousand constructive edits on the English Wikipedia, and ImmortalGoddezz has over 5,000. More importantly while we have some shared interests (Drexel and CF) the vast majority of our histories show rather distinctly the differences in our personalities. I tend to edit things like Public Radio shows and internet culture articles, while ImmortalGoddezz focuses on writers and sorority pages. While this doesn't conclusively prove that I am not a sockpuppet, it makes the assertion laughable.
 • Editing patterns: Sometimes me and ImmortalGoddezz edit at the same time, sometimes we don't. We do tend to edit most during the evening, but there is no clear pattern that would mark us as socks (e.g. alternating between accounts, always editing together).
 • Real life witnesses: Since we have both attended several wikipedia meetups, there are a large number of other wikipedia users, including administrators and ArbCom members, who have met us in person and can attest to the fact that we are two different users, and not one user with multiple accounts.
Given all this evidence any reasonable person will conclude that we are two different people. However I wish to prove further that not only are we not the same person we are not meatpuppets. We, being in a very close and loving relationship with each other, very often find that we are in agreement. We do not always agree, but in those cases we generally talk it out in real life rather than on Wikipedia. The important part--the part that makes us, by definition, not meatpuppets--is that we are both long time members who are familiar with Wikipedia policies and are able to make decisions based on policy. Furthermore we do not, particularly as of late, try to "back eachother up" or support each other in debates, in fact Candice has asked me not to get involved in several recent issues because, although I have come to agree with her through my own judgement and knowledge, it might be viewed as improper. Wikipedia SOCK and MEAT policies were certainly not designed to forbid people who know eachother to both edit wikipedia, as long as they follow policy and use their own independent judgement.
Although I understand that an inexperienced user might, in good faith, suspect us of being sock- or meatpuppets, your attacks against ImmortalGoddezz make me suspect that your motive is nothing more than revenge. --TexasDex 03:41, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I am very confident that he was an alumnus, but you're right, i need to do more research. Since he died in 1996, I'm going to try and locate an obituary. Those typically have information about what college people attended. Also, I saw that you said I didn't copy the template properly. Sorry about that. Once I have located a source, I'll let you know and you can reinsert the information at your leasure.

Thanks. --Mblumber (talk) 13:51, 17 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I just found his obituary in the Philadelphia inquirer from July 20, 1996. He actually majored in Business Adminstration at NYU. I'm going to write an article on him, but it doesn't belong on the alumni list. Just thought I would let you know. --Mblumber (talk) 00:35, 20 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:SpaceShipOne ground.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:SpaceShipOne ground.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 05:30, 24 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's unfortunate that turnout is going to be so low for the meetup. You would think that at least all the people who voted for that date would come! Anyway, last time someone set up a thing so that anyone with an IP address near Phila would get a notice on their watchlist page. I think that really helped to get the word out and we should make sure that this is done for Meetup 7. Have fun. ike9898 (talk) 18:49, 25 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia Philly Meetup 6

edit

I noticed that the meetup got postponed, if I remember correctly, for the 5th meetup I was a part of, everything on a date and time was pretty much set a couple of weeks at least in advance, that way it gave time for everyone to say if they were going or not. I know for this meetup, the date and time was only done about a week in advance. Unless I was incorrect about how the 5th meetup was planned and everything, and the response for the 6th meetup was just not there, maybe you should try to have the date and time for the meetup set a bit more in advance that way people can plan accordingly, and have time to get their replies in on if they are going or not.  :) Whammies Were Here 20:32, 2 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:SpaceShipOne ground.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:SpaceShipOne ground.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Proposed deletion of EmPower

edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article EmPower, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Image source problem with Image:Seuss-cat-hat.gif

edit

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Seuss-cat-hat.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:26, 14 November 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry (talk) 21:26, 14 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism

edit

Please don't arbitrarily removed sourced edits as you did on the CF page. My edit expands the notion in the previous paragraph that CF appears amongst racial groups. If you want to argue the point, please engage in discussion on the Talk Page rather than simply vandalizing the content without discussion. I'll wait for your response before restoring the paragraph. Bushcutter (talk) 23:25, 6 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

In your response you referred to the source of the Cystic Fibrosis statement as a "college newspaper". The quote by the spokesperson for CCFF was broadcast by the CTV television network, and was quoted in the Financial Post. Neither of these resembles in any way a college newspaper. Perhaps you're confusing my sources with something in your distant past? I think you're being a little too quick with the hatchet since WP states quite clearly that sourced material stays and discussion follows if there's disagreement. The quote should stay in place for subsequent discussion. For all that anyone knows, you may simply be an angry vandal since you brought out the hatchet before discussing your concerns. You see, right away you were wrong about the source, the content, and the motives of all concerned, and that's reason enough to restore the edit for further discussion. License tagging for File:Total Eclipse of the Heart - literal version.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Total Eclipse of the Heart - literal version.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 07:05, 31 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:Total Eclipse of the Heart - literal version.jpg

edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Total Eclipse of the Heart - literal version.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

 1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add , without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
 2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 13:19, 31 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Im Juli image

edit

Since the image is non-free, there must be sufficient reason to include it within the article. A movie poster for the film is already present in the infobox, and including an image of the DVD cover does not provide any added benefit to the article. For a DVD cover to be included in the article, there must be critical commentary within the prose of the article talking about the cover itself. For example, if there was controversy over how the cover looked, then if it was detailed in the article, it could be included. Other non-free images face the same scrutiny, as screenshots must also be commented on. You are right that a fair use rationale needs to be included, but in this case, the rationale was not strong enough to warrant inclusion. You can read more about the non-free policy at the film project's style guidelines. If you need further clarification, please let me know. --Happy editing! Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 17:33, 15 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Smooth McGroove, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Zelda (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Proposed deletion of File:Operation game.jpg

edit

The file File:Operation game.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Orphaned, blurry, and the flickr page is no longer there so it is not possible to validate the license. (Flickr images should be uploaded to Commons, which has a process in place for verification of licenses.)

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Custom signature fix needed

edit

Hi there! You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. A change to Wikipedia's software has made your current custom signature incompatible with the software.

The problem: Your signature contains a syntax error, specifically formatting tags that are in the wrong order.

The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, or you can fix your signature.

Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:
 1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
 2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
 3. Remove anything in the Signature: text box.
 4. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (The red "Restore all default settings" button will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)
Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:
 1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
 2. Change the signature as shown below, or make other edits to make the signature appear how you want it to appear.
 3. Click Save to update to your newly fixed signature.

Current signature:
<font color="#FF2200">Te</font><font color="#FF4400">xa</font><font color="#FF6600">sD</font><font color="#FF8800">ex</font> <font color="#FFAA00">★</font>

Fixed signature:
<span style="color:#FF2200;">Te</span><span style="color:#FF4400;">xa</span><span style="color:#FF6600;">sD</span><span style="color:#FF8800;">ex</span> <span style="color:#FFAA00;">★</span>

More information is available at Wikipedia:Signatures#Customizing how everyone sees your signature. If you have followed these instructions and still want help, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Signatures. Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:09, 14 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
