Question from KlineResearch (22:34, 29 January 2026)

Hi - I submitted an article that I wrote and sourced and it was deleted claiming some evidence of use of ChatGPT generating improper language or sources. My sources are all valid and in my possession. Can you help me resubmit the article for review --KlineResearch (talk) 22:34, 29 January 2026 (UTC)

Hi @KlineResearch,
  1. Regardless of whether it's AI generated or not, you really should not be writing about yourself on Wikipedia. If you truly are notable, someone will write about you.
  2. You don't disclose a conflict of interest on the draft page. You should do this on your user page.
  3. Please read the conflict of interest guideline carefully.

January–February 2026 NPP drive - Phase 2

NPP unreviewed article statistics as of February 02, 2026

Welcome to Phase 2 of the January–February 2026 NPP drive. During Phase 1, we reviewed 16,658 articles and 4,416 redirects, and there is currently a backlog of 16,475 articles and 23,782 redirects in the queue. Fantastic job! Completing 22,502 patrols in the first phase made a significant dent in the backlog. Let's keep our foot on the gas for Phase 2, and I hope we can achieve even more reviews than Phase 1. Best of luck!

about ~enwiki

earlier, you removed the redirect, which was the main purpose of the page. i re-added it, but if you really don't want it to redirect, i would at least like to know why User "Oreocooke" (speak of the sun and it shines) 06:38, 3 February 2026 (UTC)

actually none of the others had redirects so i reremoved the redirect. User "Oreocooke" (speak of the sun and it shines) 06:39, 3 February 2026 (UTC)

Temporary account IP viewer granted

The temporary account IP viewer logo, composed of the Wikipedia globe with a user and an IP address

Hello, TheTechie. Per your request, your account has been granted temporary-account-viewer rights. You are now able to reveal the IP addresses of individuals using temporary accounts that are not visible to the general public. This is very sensitive information that is only to be used to aid in anti-abuse workflows. Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer for more information on this user right. It is important to remember:

  • You must not share IP address data with someone who does not have the same access permissions unless disclosure is permissible as per guidelines listed at Foundation:Policy:Wikimedia Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy.
  • Access must not be used for political control, to apply pressure on editors, or as a threat against another editor in a content dispute. There must be a valid reason to investigate a temporary user. Note that using multiple temporary accounts is not forbidden, so long as they are not used in violation of policies (for example, block or ban evasion).

It is also important to note that the following actions are logged for others to see:

  • When a user accepts the preference that enables or disables IP reveal for their account.
  • Revealing an IP address of a temporary account.
  • Listing the temporary accounts that are associated with one or more IP addresses (using the CIDR notation format).

Remember, even if a user is violating policy, avoid revealing personal information if possible. Use temporary account usernames rather than disclosing IP addresses directly, or give information such as same network/not same network or similar. If you do not want the user right anymore then please ask me or another administrator and it will be removed for you. You may also voluntarily give up access at any time by visiting Special:Preferences. Happy editing! Sohom (talk) 05:42, 6 February 2026 (UTC)

Sorry

Hi Techie, sorry you didn't find those edits constructive. I wasn't removing for unsourced statements, but for lack of secondary sources. As you can see, the article has been flagged for eight years for excessive detail and for COI from the organization that runs this test. All information appears to be from the org's website itself, or from passing mentions from university websites that mention that they accept the test. I thought it might be better to strip it down to reliable secondary sources.

That said, I've got no particular stake in this -- I just clicked on a button to get a random article to clean up. You're welcome to take a swing at it yourself! You can probably do better than me. Thanks. MiscMichelle4 (talk) 05:42, 8 February 2026 (UTC)

Vchimpanzee

The user, Vchimpanzee, is a well-known troll. He doesn't actually have a problem. There isn't actually a library or librarian he is talking to. His goal is to see how long he can get people to keep suggesting fixes. No matter what you suggest, he will say it doesn't work and try to get you to respond with another suggestion. ~2026-91009-6 (talk) 15:41, 10 February 2026 (UTC)

@~2026-91009-6,
I fail to see how an established user is a "troll". If you're the same person who posted recently on MinorProphet's talk page, then I'm not sure what you intend to do. Under this TA, this is the only thing you have posted. Why do you take offence with users who are not tech savvy? TheTechie[she/they] | talk? 15:51, 10 February 2026 (UTC)

Question from Gandopatagonia (21:41, 10 February 2026)

Hey there! I joined recently to request an edit on a page. I understand there is a specific conflict of interest concern as I have direct connection to the subject, so I placed a request on the Talk page. Just wanted to check if that is the best route to take. Complete newbie here, so any information would be very much appreciated. Thank you! --Gandopatagonia (talk) 21:41, 10 February 2026 (UTC)

Hi @Gandopatagonia,
So a couple of things here:
  1. If you don't tag it as a COI edit request as explained on this page, then it might not be seen by anyone.
  2. Could you please disclose your COI on your user page, as described in the link above?
Otherwise, looks good.
Thanks! TheTechie[she/they] | talk? 22:44, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
Thank you. I went through and put in a request for a username change as well and reformatted the request on Charles' page. Appreciate the help. Gandopatagonia (talk) 00:28, 11 February 2026 (UTC)

Minor Prophet and Unregistered Editors

I don't know what either MinorProphet or the temporary account are saying, and will ignore them. I never asked anything about the VCR, and very seldom used the VCR when I was middle-aged, because it was my wife who used the VCR. I don't think that I have asked anything at the Computing Desk since December. I usually ignore temporary accounts, and I think that many experienced editors ignore them rather than reporting them at WP:ANI, which is why they don't get blocked. I suspect that the temporary account is insulting me because they don't understand my questions, and insulting other editors is easier than either answering the questions or explaining that one doesn't know the answers. It appears that you may be the voice of reason. Anyway, I will resume what I was doing. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:11, 10 February 2026 (UTC)

@Robert McClenon I understand, I just wanted to make that TA aware. Thanks, TheTechie[she/they] | talk? 19:46, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
Yes. In my opinion, temporary accounts are more disruptive than IP addresses were. I am not entirely sure why. Sometimes they need to be warned. Robert McClenon (talk) 20:09, 10 February 2026 (UTC)

I have a hunch that since their IPs are no longer (publicly) displayed, they feel they have some sort of anonymity. If only they knew how wrong they were... TheTechie[she/they] | talk? 03:34, 11 February 2026 (UTC)

2026 Toronto municipal election edit

Hi TheTechie,

I made my first edit today only to have it reverted by you. I understand that for political related articles it's best to have an abundance of caution.

I noticed the 2026 Toronto municipal election had opinion polling from an advocacy group listed, with it's only source being the opinion page of the Toronto Sun tabloid. This poll has notably not been reported on by any other independent major news outlets. The "pollster" does not appear to have ever published any polls before, and even define themselves as an advocacy group on their own website.

I feel my edit was well warranted and should fall under WP:V and WP:RS.

-stretch Stretchmarx (talk) 16:33, 18 February 2026 (UTC)

I don't understand what you mean. Could you provide further sources/an example? All of the other polls are also only cited once. TheTechie[she/they] | talk? 16:40, 18 February 2026 (UTC)
All the other polls are from well known Canadian polling companies (Liason, Ipsos, Forum, etc.). To be honest, a couple of them are cited poorly (one it to an X post, another to the press release) and I can look to clean that up.
This poll is different because a) it appears to be from an advocacy group https://www.onepersuasion.com/advocacy, b) they don't appear to have done any polling before (google ""one persuasion" poll", and c) the source is an opinion article in a tabloid https://torontosun.com/opinion/columnists/poll-shows-chows-support-crumbling-majority-want-new-mayor. I've looked for other mentions of this poll, but they all come from opinion articles. I was under the impression that opinion articles are not valid sources on Wikipedia.
I'm new so perhaps I'm overstepping, but as a long term reader I don't think this poll belongs in this article. Stretchmarx (talk) 16:51, 18 February 2026 (UTC)
Alright, well I'm convinced by your points, so you can reinstate it. However, if someone else reverts it, a best way forward would be to discuss on the article's talk page. Thanks, TheTechie[she/they] | talk? 17:21, 18 February 2026 (UTC)
Appreciate it. I did some more digging on RP and found this does violate RP as it's an opinion piece being sourced as a statement of fact.
I'll reinstate it later tonight and also try to clean up a few of the other poll citations, as I don't think twitter / press releases are valid sources either. Stretchmarx (talk) 17:23, 18 February 2026 (UTC)

Earth605talk 07:21, 20 February 2026 (UTC)

@Earth605:
Explain yourself. What do you mean "implausible typo"? These typos are very much plausible. TheTechie[she/they] | talk? 15:47, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
Also @SouthernNights:
I still don't see how this is an R3 candidate. These are very much typos that could be made. TheTechie[she/they] | talk? 15:51, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
I'm just not seeing how Maamannan can be misspelled like that. Plus it's a totally different pronunciation than the main article, right? SouthernNights (talk) 16:20, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
@SouthernNights:
Maamman is Maaman with an extra m. That is very much plausible.
Maamanan is Maamannan without an n. I personally have made that typo myself.
I could see why Maamana could be deleted. It is a combination of two typos, the second redirect above, and lacking an n.
At the very least, could you restore the first two? Deletion of those doesn't seem justified to me. TheTechie[she/they] | talk? 16:31, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
Would you mind seeking additional opinions at Wikipedia:Deletion review? To me, those misspellings don't seem likely. But if the people at deletion review say otherwise, I'll undelete the redirects. And if you do this, please state that I asked you to go there and seek additional opinions. Thanks. SouthernNights (talk) 17:00, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
