Dusti
Re your comment on Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Dusti 3#Discussion, my main confusion is that in cases of a lot of huggling, the percentages for talk page and mainspace are pretty similar, as with the three you linked, i.e. one revert=+one warning=one edit to each space, whereas with Dusti 50% of his edits are to talk pages and half that to articles, so unless he's warning twice for every edit something doesn't add up--Jac16888Talk 23:54, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi, Thing. I gather from this that this problem was a potential vulnerability (and a "nuisance" at that) rather than one that had actually been exploited in the wild. If that's true, fixing a potential security threat by disabling WP's most effective anti-vandalism tool seems to me a poorly-calculated tradeoff. I hope there's a fix coming soon. Is there anyone to give a heads-up about what's likely to be a sudden surge in unreverted vandalism? --RrburkeekrubrR 14:02, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Huggle edit summary
Hello! Not much, but just a quick question: How come I see "(HG (Custom))" instead of the regular "HG"? Schfifty3 01:48, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
- There seems to be a conspiracy to distract me from patrolling recent changes ;). Anyways, I use a custom version of Huggle, compiled by User:Sidonuke (This morning, actually). You can probably ask him to compile a version for you. It uses pages in one's userspace as the config pages rather than the central config page. This way one can change the default settings without affecting everybody else. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 01:50, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
- I could ask, but I actually can't use Huggle right now b.c. I lost rollback over a month ago. :-( So, does Huggle have some sort of problem at this moment, and is that why you're using it? Schfifty3 01:58, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
- Well the version that he compiled has fixed a few bugs and made it more stable. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 01:59, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
- Ohhh yeah and the other thing is. I can get you a version of huggle without the rollback requirements enabled. It's a perk of compiling your own. --Sidonuke (talk :: contribs) 02:03, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Good Faith
Dear The Thing That Should Not Be,
Obviously I am also not immune to mistakes, just because we are rollbackers, so I may have got the wrong end of the stick here BUT,
I noticed your rollback and warning on 80.235.130.176's edit to this page [3] and it just got me thinking. You rollbacked this page, and rollbacking is for pure vandalism, but the editor in question could have been doing it legitimately, just making a mistake; as they contradicted the pages title, and reffered to the ENGLISH person as being Jessica Owens. You (and I originally) believed they were simply changing facts, but they may have meant for the information on Jessica Owens
For the record, as I'm sure you'll point out, they did later make a comment of "She is the most amazing girl in the whole entire world. ", but you and I reverted the possibly legitimate edit before they actually did a blatant and obvious vandalising edit. As well as this, they did try to change the website to Owens and all other references to Owen to Owens - So they might just believe the editor before them misspelt the name
Limideen 17:23, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
- Well the only edit I initially saw was the last one they made, adding the "She is the most amazing...", and they also changed several categories and templates to convey the same thing. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 17:26, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
- OK then, I must admit I did not notice the categories/templates, but as I said originally, we are not immune to mistakes :)

level 3 warning for user
User talk:66.203.22.213 should probably have a level 3 warning from you...I should have issued a level 2 but Twinkle isn't auto-registering your warnings for some reason and issued a uw1 from me without seeing yours. Cheers,

Hiding Huggle edits
Hiya! I'm thinking about testing/using a script in your monobook page("importScript('User:X!/hidehugglecontribs.js") so I can see non-automated edits from users. Do I just need to add it to my monobook page and bypass my cache for it to work? Schfifty3 00:31, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, but just so you know, the script is a bit buggy. Sometimes it doesn't hide all of them. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 01:41, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

- Yes, well, although Wikipedia isn't censored, that image was a tad bit over the top. Perhaps that other image, File:Demi_Delia_1a.JPG, could be used on the articles instead of the full-blown one. Huggle
Hello TTTSNB. Since you know a lot about Huggle, I was wondering: do I actually need to install anything on my computer, or just create User:The High Fin Sperm Whale/huggle.css? Also, since I am not sure how to install it, could I just copy your code from User:The Thing That Should Not Be/huggle.css? Thanks in advance, --The High Fin Sperm Whale 01:07, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
- Huggle is a program that needs to be installed on your computer. It's not like Twinkle and (I think) Igloo which consist entirely of scripts. —Soap— 01:10, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
- All you need to do is download Huggle here, and create that page you linked in your userspace with this:
enable:true
The Thing // Talk // Contribs 03:57, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
- Well, were would I need to save it in? My documents? Also, doe this mean you can only use Huggle on the computer you saved it on? Thanks, --The High Fin Sperm Whale 04:01, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
- You can save it anywhere you like. It will create a config folder in the same location when it's first run, and it will save configuration settings that you specify there. You can copy the folder and Huggle.exe onto a flash drive if you like, and use it on any one of your computers. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 04:03, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
- OK, thanks. Also, how would I get to Huggle when I enabled it? Would the toolbox appear anywhere I go to on Wikipedia? --The High Fin Sperm Whale 23:32, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

Times when reverting/updating the whitelist
Hi! I don't know if I have asked you this before, but how come there are some times when you make a couple of Huggle reverts and then at least an hour later, you update the Whitelist? Is it because you revert, then leave your computer for awhile, then return and close the program? I'm just curious, so what's that all about? Thanks. Feel free to respond here or via e-mail. Schfifty3 00:09, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah that's the case sometimes... Though usually I try to prevent it from updating the whitelist if I haven't edited from it much. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 01:58, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah. Sometimes you just can't control your addiction to Huggle, can't you? :-) Sometimes, I myself will revert, then do something in the real world, then return to huggling. BTW, I like your new userpage design! Except, I noticed that the sentence "registered on August 2007" should be "registered in August 2007". That's a short grammar lesson for you! :-) Schfifty3 03:49, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

One question
I thought I would try fighting vandals and I was wondering, what anti vandalism tool are you using. I am using twinkle and Lupin/Anti-vandal tool and am reverting them as they appear on the recent changes list. I noticed that you and Cluebot are reverting a lot faster than I am and beating me to the revert. Cluebot is a bot so I know it is faster than us, but how are you doing it. Thanks, --Alpha Quadrant (talk) 02:52, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
- We are like hawks that lurk on branches above the wikipedia recent changes feed. We watch those edits cross by with a birds eye view. Then we swoop down and eat the edit alive before it reaches the masses. Anyways, He uses Huggle mostly which requires rollback rights. Also we sit on IRC watching bots show us filtered edits too. Also I stalk Thing's talk page... :P --Sidonuke (talk :: contribs) 02:57, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, Huggle is quite a nifty program for fighting vandalism. It's a bit powerful in the hands of newcomers, so be careful with it at first. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 15:49, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
I don't believe you should have warned 194.176.105.55 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) for vandalism as you did here. The edit may have been poorly formatted and unsourced, but it is factual[4]. You should assume good faith unless you are absolutely certain that an editor is vandalising. --JD554 (talk) 15:01, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
- wp:BLP - Had it said "x likes camels", it would clearly have been vandalism... and still would have been factual. An unsourced bit about a living person which might or might not be true. I don't know that I would have warned for the harmonica, but I can't support saying the editor should not have been warned. The warning says it was unconstructive...it may be that the name of the warning should be changed to "unconstructive edit warning".Sinneed 15:44, 12 May 2010 (UTC) (sig fixed - Sinneed 17:19, 12 May 2010 (UTC))
- I'll side with Sinneed here. Also, Sinneed, your sig doesn't link to any sort of userpage or user talk page. Just pointing that out. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 15:48, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
- The new UI brokeded it. Hmmm. - Sinneed 16:58, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
- I'll stick with what I say above. Reverting without leaving an edit summary is usually considered to be reverting vandlism as that is what happens with rollbacking. If it was for reverting unsourced information per WP:BLP then there should have been an edit summary to say so. --JD554 (talk) 16:00, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
It seems, to me, to clearly say that it was for removing an edit that appeared unconstructive.- Sinneed 16:58, 12 May 2010 (UTC)- I apologize, JD, I see your point...I misread. When TTTSNB did the revert,
theTTTSNB did not leave a non-default edit summary, which is normally reserved when reverting for "obvious vandalism" (or whatever the actual wording is at wp:edit summary).- Sinneed 17:18, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Your opinion on policy
There have been regular difference of opinion in article deletion debates regarding NPOV application. It's an intersecting of WP:WAX the final entry on legitimate usage, WP:BIAS and the current reading of WP:NPOV. I hopefully summarized my case effectively here. 4chan
Hey, I saw the wiki article on 4chan but I'm just curious.. what exactly is it? Tommy2010 23:23, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- 4chan is an imageboard, which contains various boards to post on various topics. It's sort of like a chat room of sorts. Anyone who posts there can do so anonymously. Their most popular board by far is /b/, the "random board". Usually the stuff there ranges from simple questions to threads filled to the brim with pornography. That's where most Wikipedia attacks originate. The Thing That Should Not Be (talk) 23:26, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

dude the only reason why I changed that page is an inside joke. We had this stupid long term sub in AP government and he said "roadside bomb" to make it sound like bong.

Yes...of course. a) I appreciate wikipedia and use it frequently. b) I wouldn't have done it if I knew it wouldn't be changed right away (if not, I'd have changed it back), and, c) now a bunch of people from the class are tagged in the screenshot on facebook and will find it mildly amusing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.64.122.61 (talk • contribs)

Whacking with a wet trout or trouting is a common practice on Wikipedia when experienced editors slip up and make a silly mistake. It, along with sentencing to the village stocks, is used to resolve one-off instances of seemingly silly behavior amongst normally constructive community members, as opposed to long term patterns of disruptive edits, which earn warnings and blocks.

- Yea, that A+ was a bugger really, I think I passed with 792 on the 602, and 745 on the 601. Just received my certificate and card day before yesterday. I don't think I would be granted rollback permissions, as I'm very new here. But I will have a read of that page. Mr little irish(talk) 13:15, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Just wanted to say - good job reverting vandalism on this article last night, but next time you see an article subject to that level of serious and repeated vandalism, please list it on requests for page protection. I've added it now, but it would have been better if it had been added last night when the damage was being done. You made four vandalism reverts in a matter of minutes: that's a good sign that immediate protection is needed. Robofish (talk) 02:10, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
- I had asked an admin on IRC to take a look at it, he said he would do so after he had gotten done doing something. Also after I asked, the vandalism seemed to stop, and I stopped watching it. It was also getting edits by a few good-faith IP's, so I was concerned about locking them out. This page would make a perfect candidate for that Pending Changes protection. Friendly Offer
Hey there TTTSNB. Haveing read through your last two RFA's (mostly this one) It seems that you continue to fail from "lack of content work". I did support you last time and I belive that you are a net positive to this project and I would like to see you become an admin in the near future. So may I offer you some assistance in article writeing considering that this was arguably the biggest reason you have yet to be a sysop? I have writen a good 20+ GA's and I have about 40 DYK's so I belive that I can help. Just let me know if you'd like some assistance and I'll try my best :) All that you really need is a topic that you like and some good sources and you're halfway there to a GA. (If you take me up on this offer you can reply here or on my talk page since I've had you page watchlisted for some time now)
Your Wiki-friend, --White Shadows stood on the edge 02:33, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks you for your offer, but I'm not interested in running for adminship again. I'm not a content writer, I'm happy working with CSD, UAA, and vandal-fighting. (Ironically those are the areas where the tools are used the most.) But, again, I'm not planning on having another RfA, I've personally had enough of that mess. Sorry. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 02:50, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry to hear you say that. Wikipedia needs people like you to wield the tools. If you ever change you mind on either account (yet another RFA or writeing content) just let me know and I'll try my best to help you out :)--White Shadows stood on the edge 02:52, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Sorry to bother you, but let me ask you something, on the Star Wars character page of Asajj Ventress, this edit by user Harabanar[6], isn't this just useless Trivia that has nothing to do with the character?[7]TheHeronGuard 22:45, 28 June 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by TheHeronGuard (talk • contribs)

ANI board request
I'm currently trying to get more info from him on his talkpage. With enough info we could probably narrow down his school and see if there is someone there we could contact such as a counselor.Wikiposter0123 (talk) 18:55, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
- Well it's a Comcast address, so I doubt that he's editing from a school. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 18:56, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not good with tech stuff but can you tell from what district he is editing from from the latitude and longitude given? From there it should be easy to narrow done what school is in his district.Wikiposter0123 (talk) 18:58, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
- I might, but my experience with Comcast geolocations suggests that they're very inaccurate. My own geolocation locates over 100 miles from where I actually am, for instance. Here is the Wikipedia page, showing the schools and districts for the city that his IP geolocates to. [8] The Thing // Talk // Contribs 19:01, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
- That's unfortunate. If he ever responds back and gives us a name I could try getting some more info on where he lives but I'm afraid children are often told not to give personal info over the internet so this might all be moot. That being said we can still try to convince him to speak to somebody like a school counselor and let him know that there are people out there that would like to listen to him, but apart from that I can't think of anything else we can do.Wikiposter0123 (talk) 19:06, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
- Note: he has responded back and I doubt we're going to get any more information from him. I don't know how to suggest to him that he tries speaking with someone like a school counselor without sounding like I'm belittling him, so I don't know what to do. I'm going to try recruiting someone else to speak to him.Wikiposter0123 (talk) 19:44, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
