Speedy deletion nomination of Ghigau

edit

A tag has been placed on Ghigau requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. GregJackP Boomer! 04:27, 4 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Removing Speedy at Ghigau

edit

Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for taking the time to create a page here. It might not have been your intention, but you recently removed a speedy deletion tag from a page you created yourself. Because Wikipedia policy does not allow the creator of the page to remove deletion tags, an automated program has replaced the deletion tag you removed from Ghigau. Please do not continue to remove the deletion tag, instead, if you disagree with the deletion, you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to the page by clicking this link. Once there, select the button that says Click here to contest this speedy deletion.
  2. This will take you to the talk page, where you can make your case by explaining why the page does not meet Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion.

Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do. For further help about the deletion, you could contact the user who first placed the tag or a highly active user who is willing to help with deletion. This message was left by a bot, so please do not contact the bot about the deletion. Thank you, - SDPatrolBot (talk) 04:34, 4 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with Ghigau. If you believe the page should not be deleted, you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that says: Click here to contest this speedy deletion, which appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. - SDPatrolBot (talk) 04:35, 4 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Meaning of Agigaue

edit

I did a search on Agigaue + Cherokee and many of the results also state that Agigaue is "Beloved woman" including Texas Cherokees (toward the bottom) and Chickamauga Wars (1776–1794) "War woman" is hinted at but does not seem to be an equivalence. Would you please explain a bit? Thank you Jim1138 (talk) 04:55, 4 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Ghigau

edit

Hi, The article that you began on Ghigau looks pretty interesting. I was going to do some copy editing to help resolve some of the tags that got assigned by the automated editing program, but I'm a bit lost. I'm trying to sort out what the article is about:

  • The concept of a Ghigau and what that means in the Cherokee culture.
  • The story of Nancy Ward.
  • A college scholarship.
  • Camp Ghigau

Since the title of the article is Ghigau, I would assume it's the first item, but I'm just checking in on that. And, that actually sounds like an incredible topic!

I'm going to take a crack at editing some of the material and look forward to hearing from you.--CaroleHenson (talk) 11:45, 5 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I think Ive finally figured out how to respond to your comment. I am very new to Wikipedia. I really don't mind anyone helping me on this topic. The main topic is the Cherokee word Ghigau and what it means to Cherokees, past and present. Some minor facts have been changed by others that shouldn't be. Such as the word Adageyudi, according to Greg Howard this word is "beloved woman" but other online dictionaries say it means simply "beloved". also in raven hails book "Cherokee Astrology" She says Ghigau literally means "The red woman" Which makes since, Since the word for red is gigage or agigage. Thanks very much for your interest in Cherokee culture and I hope you can help with some of these issues.
Great, I love this article. I had it in one of my storytelling books, which I think I loaned out to a friend - so it's fun to see it! I fixed the sentence for the word Adageyudi so that it contains both meanings. That way we're presenting the full picture.
Since the information about "red woman" is not in the two citations where it was inserted, I went ahead and pulled that out and added the "citation needed" template.
There are some additional things that need to be resolved:
  • The copy-paste text about Nancy Ward needs to be reworded so that it's not a copyright violation. Since there's another article about her, it can be rewritten to get to the most salient points that you'd like to make about what made Nancy Ward a Ghigau.
  • The topics about the camp and the scholarship are not really germaine to the article about Ghigau and really should be in other articles that are either specific to their topic or included in a related topic. I suggest that this information is removed and moved to other articles. If you need it, I can find the guidelines for not having multiple topics included in a single article. --CaroleHenson (talk) 18:13, 5 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
By the way, I went ahead and added the citation for Raven Hail's book. Generally, e-Books are not considered the best sources of information for wikipedia articles, but I think it's ok here since it's really a side note and not key information for the article. In this world of consensus writing according to guidelines, someone may come back and disagree and cite the guideline, but I think it's not highly likely in this case.--CaroleHenson (talk) 18:21, 5 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
I went ahead a tried an idea to keep Camp Ghigau and the scholarship - but added Ghigau inspired programs and not having them as main headings. Again, someone may dispute it, but it's worth a try. I also added a secondardy source for Camp Ghigau - the Camp Ghigau site is a primary source of information). See Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources.
The only thing that remains is rewording the information about Nancy Ward. Do you want to do that?--CaroleHenson (talk) 18:48, 5 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much. I think you have cleaned this article up nicly. I will try to clean up the section on Nancy Ward when I get a chance. Unless someone beats me to it. Thanks again. P.S. Not that it matters much but Raven Hails book is a published work that is respected among the cherokee comunity.

Oh, thanks, that's good to know. Happy editing!--CaroleHenson (talk) 23:25, 5 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Cherokee calendar, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Gregorian (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Proposed deletion of Cherokee calendar

edit

The article Cherokee calendar has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Factually incorrect, most likely promotional, and completely uncited

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
