Hi, first of all, I want to thank you for your work of researching the Victorian localities and fixing the templates, I had started working on this but life kinda gets in the way haha, but yes I understand how tedious this is.
I was just wondering what is defined as "Town", "Locality", "City", "Suburb", etc. as I don't really understand the source. I talked it over with User:An aggressive and ambiguous amphibian's absurd and adaptable anagram alarmed all ants and neither of us could understand. I'll discus, Bendigo as this is were both of us are from. For example on this template Kangaroo Flat is listed as a "City", when it's really just another suburb of Bendigo, every other suburb and locality is just a locality and then a couple of the most random localities are just listed as localities. I really do think there is something wrong with the source you listed, especially since it's inconsistent with the opening lines of each of the wikipedia entries linked. I know I must be missing something, I'm just not entirely sure what it is.
Thanks in advance Viatori (talk) 08:53, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
- I wasn't able to find a proper definition for "City", "Town", "Suburb", or "Locality".
- Technically they were all defined as localities. Calling a place a town sounded a lot better than calling it a locality. What makes a city different from a town, possibly it's size. As for suburbs, they are a bit confusing as to which major town it belongs to (especially in the metropolitan area).
- I defined them as:
- City - population over 10000
- Town - population between 10000 & 200
- Locality - population under 200 (there are a few "ghost towns" with little or no population)
- I'm happy to redefine the population values if needed. As I did this using an excel table with formulas, I will easily be able to recreate all relevant page. If on the other hand it is decided to define them not using population values, this will be a lot harder to update. -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 09:13, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
- Localities are defined by Data set for localities accessed via Mapshare ThylacineHunter (talk) 09:46, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
- Exceptionalism of just Victoria can have serious impact on the other states - best to think about oz wide - otherwise the conversation might get very messy JarrahTree 11:18, 10 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi, please note when working with citations like in this edit to Pakenham railway line:
- Don't try to cram the names of companies or other corporate authors into human name parameters, like
|first=Public Transport and |last=Victoria . The better thing to do with things like company websites and brochures, etc, is just to ignore the author and website fields and use |publisher=Public Transport Victoria instead. They're only really relevant if you're citing something like a special website operated by a publisher that wouldn't otherwise be apparent, for example: |website=Heritage Discoveries |publisher=Department of Lands and Natural Resources, NSW Government , or where a body corporate is publishing something authored by a different body corporate, for example: |author=Lotsabucks Solicitors LLC |publisher=Metro Trains Melbourne .
- Don't remove archived versions of websites from citations unless the archive doesn't work. It's okay to have an archive even when the original website is working, because the archive is a snapshot of how the information appeared when it was used as a source for the article, and is thus a precaution against the original website changing or ceasing to work. The
|url-status= parameter controls how the link appears to a reader; where it's set to |url-status=live the reader will be shown the live version of the website by default. If it's set to |url-status=dead , or removed entirely, the archive version will be the primary link.
Thanks. XAM2175 (T) 11:48, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry about that:
- I add citations by using the handy Wikipedia function... "Cite" -> "Templates" -> "Cite web" -> then past the web address into the URL field and click search, Wikipedia does all the other bits like
|first=Public Transport and |last=Victoria
- I noticed the line appeared different to how it was on Cranbourne railway line so I copied it and changed "Cranbourne" to "Pakenham" as I had accessed both of them at the same time.
- -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 12:07, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
- Okay, that autofill is broken. I didn't even know it existed, so I'll have to find out how to report it. I suggest either not using it anymore, or at the very least, manually double-checking what it does. XAM2175 (T) 12:12, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
Hello again. Thanks for all your efforts with helping me rebuild the Melbourne railway line articles. I've gone ahead and upload the Melbourne ferry logo symbol to Wikipedia as it hadn't been already and fits the criteria to be uploaded. I'm awaiting the graphics lab to vectorise it and increase the size of it. Whilst we wait, are you able to go and update the ferry symbols on the Stony Point line article track and route diagrams to this symbol? Thanks for your continued effort. HoHo3143 (talk) 07:17, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
- @HoHo3143 I'll get on to that as soon as I can. ThylacineHunter (talk) 11:16, 22 February 2023 (UTC)

- YMernda / Whitlesea - may have trouble making it into 2 articles as Whitlesea is only an extension (not a separate branch) and there are only 2 stations and 3 stopping places. ThylacineHunter (talk) 06:41, 24 February 2023 (UTC)
- Wouldn't whitlesea be the 'main line' with Mernda being a service? HoHo3143 (talk) 05:04, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, but I was going off how V/Line service and main line pages have been merged in the past:
- ThylacineHunter (talk) 05:32, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
- The Bairnsdale & Traralgon are joined, but why aren't the Geelong & Warrnambool. -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 05:34, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
- Ok. After doing a bit of research, there are some examples of old lines that have metro services to a certain extent. I think it would be best for a new page to be created called 'Whittlesea railway line' with the information from the Mernda line about to line to whittlesea moved to this new article. Otherwise the Mernda article would have too much information making the article confusing. Let me know you thoughts @ThylacineHunter. HoHo3143 (talk) 03:58, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
- See User:HoHo3143/Lines and services that continue#Discussions. -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 05:05, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
- YLilydale / Healesville / Warburton - both the Healesville and Warburton were technically operated as branch lines off the Lilydale line. Unlike for example the Gippsland which was a continuation of the Pakenham. ThylacineHunter (talk) 06:43, 24 February 2023 (UTC)
- If they were technically opened as a branch line then all three should have track infoboxes- up to you (just make sure you let me know) HoHo3143 (talk) 05:04, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
- Facts:
- According to "Victorian Railways Diagram of Gradients & Curves" published by the Victorian Railways c.1927, the lines are shown as Richmond-Healesville & Lilydale-Warburton (order of when opened).
- From when the Warburton line opened until it closed it was operated as a branch service.
- From when the Healesville line opened until August 1964 it was an extension of the Lilydale line, but from then until it closed it was operated as a branch service.
- After electrification in November 1925, they were operated by E trains. Two electric motor carriages from Melbourne to Lilydale hauling a number country carriages, at Lilydale, the country carriages were detached, and hauled by a steam locomotive to their destination of Healesville or Warburton.
- ThylacineHunter (talk) 06:09, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
- @ThylacineHunter ok makes sense then to have a track diagram on all three pages (Healesville, Warburton, and Lilydale). HoHo3143 (talk) 02:27, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
- Y@ThylacineHunter with the Frankston and Stony Point lines, shouldn't there only be an infobox on the stony point line? HoHo3143 (talk) 05:11, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
- This is where things get a bit confusing. -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 05:45, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
- @ThylacineHunter I think there should only be an infobox on the stony point line as they are both fully connected with the only difference being that one isn't electrified. Also in future years the Frankston line will be extended further onto the stony point line to Baxter. Let me know your thoughts/reasoning. HoHo3143 (talk) 02:20, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
- @ThylacineHunter or should it be treated the same as the Lilydale line? HoHo3143 (talk) 02:35, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
- Y@ThylacineHunter with the Werribee line, should the Geelong line track diagram show the stretch between Manor and Werribee as a double up with an indication that the track isn't used anymore however will be in the future? HoHo3143 (talk) 05:16, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
- I would suggest either:
- Werribee track (not service) section cover from Werribee to Manor junction / Little River
- Make a seperate Little River–Werribee line (that order as the line was built from Ggeelong to Melbourne) page to cover that section as is done with Albion–Jacana, Newport–Sunshine, South Kensington–West Footscray
- ThylacineHunter (talk) 06:14, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
- I think there should be a seperate page. The page can also discuss the resumption of geelong service on the corridor and the recent level crossing removal. HoHo3143 (talk) 11:05, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
A current discussion may be of interest to you about merging the Melton railway line article with the Ballarat V/Line rail service article. View the discussion here. HoHo3143 (talk) 07:12, 28 February 2023 (UTC)
I reverted your edit because I had updated the template to accept 2'6 and 2.5 (as well as your 2.6 ). Please note that 2.6' = 31.2" or 792.5 mm, which approximately corresponds to the incorrect 791 mm (2 ft 7+5⁄32 in) gauge. Useddenim (talk) 23:27, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
- I had a look, and he template hasn't been altered, just the doc attached to it, so I changed the doc to be correct.
2'6 is not accepted → will just show "2'6" not a link to 2 ft 6 in
2.5 is not accepted → will just show "2.5" not a link to 2 ft 6 in
- I didn't want it to evaluate "2.6", just to use that as a shortcut to write
2'6" . -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 23:36, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
- I have added your "suggestions" of
2.5 and 2'6 into the template so they will now work. -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 23:40, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry, I missed that bit when I was copying code from the sandbox back to the template. Apologies. Useddenim (talk) 00:19, 5 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

There seems to be a problem with Template:Table Age Calculator that is causing some articles to appear in Category:ParserFunction errors. I don't know enough about template coding to identify the precise problem, but the error message can be seen in the documentation on the template page. Deor (talk) 23:23, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Deor, I see what I've done, I've got it using {{CURRENTDAY}} when no day is supplied. This occasionally will produce dates like 31st April which causes the error. ThylacineHunter (talk) 23:49, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
- It should be fixed now. I added "|fix=on" to all instances of
{{extract}} in the code ThylacineHunter (talk) 00:12, 1 June 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, it appears to be fixed. Thanks. Deor (talk) 00:27, 1 June 2023 (UTC)
What aspect of the larger project causes you problems? I am prepared to explain at length what the larger project benefits everyone, and why worrying and focusing on the front ends of state projects is possibly a wrong direction. However after the last issue, I am not saying anything further unless invited. It is up to you to ask, otherwise, have a nice day... JarrahTree 10:47, 3 June 2023 (UTC)
- My goal is to add all pages the should be in Wikiproject Victoria into it, identify what are missing from Wikipedia, and update out of date ones (eg the regions of Victoria) instead of the current chaos some are in (eg missing 3 of the 8 sub-regions in Victoria; half the 'Lists of places on the Victorian Heritage Register by local government area' don't exist). -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 11:09, 3 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for replying, I think you are trying to do too much alone, you need to get a handle on trying to not overwhelm yourself with the material. It is not clear what you are intending to do with regions, but really, it is very easy to have too much to deal with.
- Take care, and remember that the 'field' of what is 'missing' - one typical problem for all of the separate state projects - is the separation of items between the scope of the city (Melbourne) and the state (Victoria)... that is always fraught with scope determinations... JarrahTree 11:18, 3 June 2023 (UTC)
- The fact that you keep going despite the frustrations is something worth commending - keep up the good work, whatever you do! It is much appreciated that you keep at it despite everything! JarrahTree 11:29, 3 June 2023 (UTC)
- Unfortunately/fortunately my ADS kicks in and a can't stand seeing the inconsistencies (both a super power and my kryptonite). -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 11:31, 3 June 2023 (UTC)
- I hated how out of date the Victorian project was looking, and hopefully updating it will get people more engaged with it. -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 11:34, 3 June 2023 (UTC)
In the end, I am just another editor, and I would for the moment prefer if you dont mind not to ping me in relation to the format of projects - a careful read of my comment at the national noticeboard - I prefer to think of the larger picture and all oz projects - not just one. Exceptionalism is what makes the oz project what it is, I am sure John Cleese had a marvelous quotable comment about the issue, but I cannot put my finger on it. JarrahTree 07:37, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
- Of course I'll put the suggestions to the project, I just thought I'd ask you for a first look. As someone who, as you have mentioned, engages with multiple projects, I was wondering where exactly on those projects you check (Article alerts, assessment tables, to-do, etc). I myself haven't really looked at them (apart from adding to a to-do list). I also turned to you as you appear to have a broader range of articles you edit then I do. -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 07:51, 5 June 2023 (UTC)

- has some parts not found in the other sections - and imho is as important... JarrahTree 10:26, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
