Moulton

Interesting that you touched on the riding arrangements for the 73 B&H. According to a biog of Barry Hills I read a while back, Charles St George was instrumental in this, travelling to York on the day with the Rheingold syndicate and persuading them to put his mate Piggott up (I can't clearly remember who was down to ride him but possibly Yves Saint-Martin). Hills only found out when the owners arrived at the course and had to deal with the situation, which clearly caused plenty of knock-on ructions on the day. --Bcp67 (talk) 06:31, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

According to Racehorses of 1973 the plan was that Piggott would ride Roberto, Saint-Martin would ride Rheingold and Lewis would ride Moulton. There was an understanding that Lewis would step down and Piggott would take over on Moulton if Roberto didn't run. When Roberto was scratched Rheingold's owners took a vote and decided to approach Piggott, who took up the offer and thereby "jocked off" Saint-Martin. The owners decision was prompted by the fact that YSM would probably be required to ride Allez France in the Arc and they wanted Rheingold to have the same jockey in both races. YSM complained and the stewards issued a statement saying that they "deplored" the late change in riding arrangements. The details probably belong in the Rheingold article, but I will alter the wording on Moulton as the current version is a bit harsh on LP. Tigerboy1966  06:49, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

I think a redirect might be in order as they are effectively the same thing as far as racing goes. racehorse Bloomsbury

I've just done a brief article on Robert Ridsdale and the subject of Bloomsbury had to be covered and it was confusing. I noticed that you edit the Bloomsbury (horse) article which is great and you may have this info already: Arcot Lass was owned by Mr Cattle who sent her every year to Ridsdale at Murton Stud. Their arrangement was that Ridsdale would have first refusal on any progeny and he would not charge Mr Cattle for the stud fee. Tramp was Ridsdales stallion from 1830 till 1835 when is started to fail and became dangerous. Tramp as you know had sired St. Giles with Arcot Lass and the arrangement between Cattle and Ridsdale I understand had produce two further foals in SCROGGINS (1833) and VACUNA (1834). With the failure of Tramp, Ridsdale obtained Mulatto from Earl Fitzwilliam, perhaps on a years agreement, not sure on this. Mulatto covered Arcot lass and a foal was dropped 4 Feb 1836. In August Lord Chesterfield purchased both Arcot Lass and the foal. Because Arcot Lass, and presumably the foal were considered to be the property of Cattle and not Ridsdale, they could not be impounded by the assignee appointed to sort out Ridsdale's bankruptcy. The Derby

Why does it seem that the Derby has lost its once lofty status as England's greatest race? I have it on my "must see before I die" list but it's on shaky grounds. Got to the Arc and our Derby and am now planning London etc. then on to Ayrshire. I have "The Ultimate Horseracing Collection" DVD set, and Shergar's Derby was pure perfection. However, now think Wimbledon may win out. Stretchrunner (talk)

Just a note on this subject: a few years ago when Frankel was the talk of the planet, the CBC (public broadcaster) did I think two consecutive Derbys which was good to see but I never did figure out any Frankel connection so maybe is was just coincidence. Hi Tigerboy1966, sorry if my comments misread as a threat, but there is issues with the content of this page as they are trying to use the titles of another church and twisting the history by using their own sources. Recent verdicts by the supreme court of India regarding the malankara church dispute has clearly mentioned that the malankara church is the ancient church in India. So it is necessary to clean up the content and also this content affects the sentiments of the ancient malankara church members. Also the page contains terms like "marthoma nasrani" which is a distorted term, as the st thomas christians were never named as marthoma nasrani. The actual name is just nasrani or Malankara nasrani. • As I said before, knowing that something is true is not a test that you can use on WP. I know that my cat bit me on the ankle on 11 December 2018 but I could not add that to any WP article as it was not alluded to in any reliable source. It's all about information being verifiable from reliable sources. Certain titles relating to the hierarchy of the Syro-Malabar Catholic church which were supported by reliable sources were removed without adequate explanation. If there are reliable sources which show that the titles are disputed or incorrect then an edit might be justified. Never, ever use phrases like "legal obligations will be there if the invalid titles are used" as it doesn't scare anyone and is a quick way to get banned. The Debate Over The Naming Of The Derby Stakes.

I'm sure you are fed up with Brits of various nations arguing that the heading Epsom Derby is plain wrong. I note the debate and am not going to open it up again. I can see the confusion for Americans who make up the majority of readers. The Derby Stakes would have been correct but why wasn't the English Derby considered?. The terms Irish Derby and French Derby are in use. Epsom Derby was a poor choice. As an aside Derby Day was a bit special when I was young and in my life I must have attended thirty plus Derby's. I hope Tigerboy doesn't mind me getting involved on this discussion his talk page! To me the race has always been just "The Derby", the original and best one and everything else a copy (or tribute!) so they need an adjective in front of Derby, but I've come to support using Epsom Derby on here as a differentiator because there is plenty of media usage of the term. I actually can't recall ever seeing the phrase English Derby at all though in my years following the sport (30+ Cheltenham Gold Cups but never, yet, a Derby). ITA that "The Derby" is the term I'm most familiar with. The Derby Stakes may be correct but isn't something I see used. By contrast, "Epsom Derby" is something I've seen frequently and now accept as the best compromise as a short form for the Derby held at Epsom. I note that the first sentence of the article on the race doesn't even mention the article name though, which is very strange! I don't care for English Derby: it sort of implies that there was a thing called "Derby" which took root in various situations and took on adjectives like Irish, French, Polish, Donkey, Camel, Demolition, Pinewood, Roller. Hi -- thanks for all the work you're putting into FIDE Grand Swiss Tournament 2019!

I just wanted to make sure you saw my edit comment announcing that I'll be automatically transferring the official results into the table after each round. I don't want to spoil your fun updating the results as they arrive, and it's nice to have them -- just so you know it will all soon be overwritten in bulk.
