Current proposals and discussions
  • The W1.0 Editorial Team have selected 1133 Military history articles for inclusion in the W0.7 test release. For convenience, these are broken by task force and you'll find a list on each task force headed "Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for [task force name]" on the task force talk page. You may nominate extra articles for inclusion or existing ones for removal. If you can improve any of the articles on the list, by adding references, or copy-editing, or cleaning up generally, please do so.
  • A new discussion has started about naming articles on Soviet WWII operations. All contributions are welcome as we hope to resolve this longstanding issue once and for all.
  • The debate over whether Milhist should adopt C-Class is continuing. All comments and suggestions are welcome.

About tears-invoking pic of girl in anti-India page

"Please do not add original research or novel syntheses of previously published material to our articles " - You have told an Editor called Allen. May I know who 'we' are. You are googlean? Jobxavier (talk) 17:27, 10 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

You cannot use the pic if it is from Reuters because it is copyright material. The pic has been taken from AICC site by Recordfree. Look at the source of the pic. Pic from AICC site is POV and must not be used in WP. I suppose the intentions of putting up the fake pic are satisfied by now. So, let us go NPOV and remove the pic.

Jobxavier (talk) 23:30, 10 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Calm down,my friend. Wikipedia adheres to 1) Verifiability 2) Reliable sources 3) NPOV policies, which is applicable to all users' contributions. I am Indian and also a wikipedian. If it is factual , it should have a place in wikipedia. If it not , it should be removed. Do you think things about Kargil War should be removed bcoz it is 'Pro-India' and 'Anti - Pak' ? For your question of the girl pic in Anti-Christian violence in India , the image has been be uploaded from AICC by a user with permissions, which makes it legal to use in Wikipedia. Reuters ( slide 8/31) provides another image of the girl which makes it reliable and verifiable. For your other question, I am not Googlean. ( Kindly read WP:SOCK) . If your are not convinced, you may request a RCU for my contribs. Thisis a templated warning given to Allen131313 (talk · contribs · count) for his vandalism on the above page. FYI, Our=Wikiepida community. I have reasons to believe who might be using the above sock id. I suggest you to be civil and request you not to add personal ideas and views to WP as you did in your talk page and the above articles. I see that you have been blocked indefinitely for your behaviour. Still, I am leaving this reply here just in case you are watching this page. Nevertheless , Have a gr8 day -- Tinu Cherian - 15:01, 15 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re: Interwiki bots

For interwikis, yes, see this archive, and the meta page here =Nichalp «Talk»= 16:56, 15 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Nich for the pointers... Reading them, what I understand is that Bots can be given Global rights at meta. But where ( BRFA) can the bot be approved for the bot task ? Each lang wiki BRFA which it wants to edit? Also I see that Global bots only maintain interlanguage links or fix double-redirects . Hence I guess I need to create a new bot account ? Apply at each Wiki ( en at WP:BRFA etc) and then apply for global rights ? -- Tinu Cherian - 07:22, 16 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
First get a bot flagged for interwiki tasks here. Once established, you can request the flag as a global bot on meta. The bot will then be flagged on wikiproject accounts that have opted in for the global bot access. For those projects that have not opted in, you need to place a request on the BRFA pages there. =Nichalp «Talk»= 08:58, 16 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a lot for the clarification , Nich -- Tinu Cherian - 09:01, 16 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Saint Alphonsa

Is it necessary to have Saint Alphonsa as the title of the article. Rather, it should be Alphonsa Muttathupadathu. I have seen many articles on saints like Gonsalo Garcia, Francis Xavier, and Aloysius Gonzaga. They all use the full names. Saint being a common word should be preferred only in case of disambiguation. Any comments? KensplanetTalkContributions 13:47, 16 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Tinu! Just spotted a trivial spelling mistake in your bot's message, see for example Talk:Ssamjang - "The bot was instructed to tagg these articles" - should be "tag". -- Timberframe (talk) 10:37, 23 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for leaving a note regarding my adoptee, User:Blooded_Edge . I also understand that you are new to Wikipedia. Just curious , does he violate any policies at Wikipedia:User page for a small joke like that ?? In general it is considered polite to avoid editing another's user page without their permission ( altough the user doesnt OWN their page) . Some users are fine with their user pages being edited, and may even have a note to that effect. Other users may object and ask you not to edit their user pages, and it is probably sensible to respect their requests. The best option is to draw their attention to the matter on their talk page and let them edit their user page themselves if they agree on a need to do so. In some cases a more experienced editor may make a non-trivial edit to your userpage, in which case that editor should leave a note on your talk page explaining why this was done. Did you talk to him regarding this? Did he object removing this earlier ? Any explainations why you think it shouldnt be there? -- Tinu Cherian - 11:00, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hi I left him a note and it disturbs the navigation.Sorry if i did any wrong.--E Renault Talk + 11:05, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
I see that you have left him a message only now. Personally I dont see that msg is a big deal and can be treated as humourous in good spirits. Moreover it is at his userpage only and I still dont understand why you think it is very offending. Lots of people have such things in their userpage. AFAIK , It doesnt directly violate any WP userpage policies. Why dont you consider talking regarding this to your adopter , xeno ? -- Tinu Cherian - 11:15, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
replied to xeno -- Tinu Cherian - 14:26, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for stepping in Tinu, your point about lots of others using it, is indeed very much true. I copied from another user (whose name I forget), and have seen plenty others use it too. Whether it be cheeky links to signature pages or whatever. You say that it disrupts navigation, well I can hardly see what the problem is if all you have to do is click Back to resume normal browsing. Blooded Edge (TCA) 19:03, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Closure of WP:GEOBOT

Regrettably I have come to inform you, that this bot project will not go into operation and therefore the project will be closing down. Thanks everybody for their time and support but there is a clear reason why it failed. Dr. Blofeld (talk) 11:49, 31 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

It is isn't a sudden decision. Its one that gradually became apparent that was difficult to achieve in the circumstances. First of all there was all the hoo-hah at village pump which was enough to put anybody off wanting to create new articles with a bot, then it was partly due to problems with compiling decent data to an acceptable level to create, vile and cynical people like Mick McGee around, problems with bot programming and the committments and restrictions that Fritz has in operating it. We hope the bot can still be used for GEO cleanup tasks in the foreseeable future though Dr. Blofeld (talk) 13:10, 31 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
