Notes vs. References

Re your edit on Baked apple, MOS:FNNR says:

Editors may use any reasonable section title that they choose. The most frequent choice is "References"; other articles use "Notes", "Footnotes", or "Works cited"

And MOS:VAR says:

When either of two styles are acceptable it is inappropriate for a Wikipedia editor to change from one style to another unless there is some substantial reason for the change ... enforcing optional style in a bot-like fashion without prior consensus, is never acceptable.
