Hi Ipigott, thanks for the welcome! I have been using the community portal and suggested edits on my user page to find articles to improve/edit. In addition, the requested articles and the WiR lists to find new topics to write about. I've been researching topics for notability, so will write about the ones I find most notable. A lot of the listed topics do not meet the criteria, so it takes a bit of time to find the ones that can be published. UMStellify (talk) 09:26, 24 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Women in Red

edit

Hi there, UMStellify, and welcome to Women in Red. It's good to see you are interested in creating biographies. You've made a good start with Emma Lewis Lipps which shows you have a good understanding of Wikipedia editing. Nevertheless, if you haven't already done so, you might find it useful to look through our Essays, perhaps starting with our Ten Simple Rules. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 09:03, 24 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Thank you for the welcome and for reviewing the Emma Lewis Lipps article. I have been going through the guidelines and policies - there are quite a few! It'll take some time to take grasp all of them. UMStellify (talk) 09:26, 24 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Don't worry about them too much. You already seem to have a pretty good grasp of how to write a biography. If you run into problems, you can either let me know or discuss them on the WiR talk page. In any case, please let me know when you have completed your next draft.--Ipigott (talk) 09:31, 24 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Paul Sein Twa

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Paul Sein Twa requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.goldmanprize.org/recipient/paul-sein-twa/, https://www.iccaconsortium.org/index.php/2020/12/18/congratulations-2020-goldman-environmental-prize-winners/, and https://karennews.org/2020/12/saw-paul-sein-twa-wins-goldman-environmental-prize/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.   Hello UMStellify! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Paul Sein Twa, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted material from other websites or printed works. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate your contributions, copying content from other websites is unlawful and against Wikipedia's copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are likely to lose their editing privileges.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under license allowed by Wikipedia, then you should do one of the following:

Otherwise, you may rewrite this article from scratch. If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Julien Vincent moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Julien Vincent, is not suitable as written to remain published. Aside from the current state of the article, which reads like a promo announcement, it needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 12:40, 6 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Eggshell planet

edit

Hello, UMStellify,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Lightoil and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I have tagged an article that you started, Eggshell planet, for deletion, because [[Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Eggshell planet|a consensus decision]] previously decided that it wasn't suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. If you wish to restore a page deleted via a deletion discussion, please use the deletion review process instead, rather than reposting the content of the page.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.

For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Lightoil}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

@Lightoil: Oh, well! In the past, Wikipedia notified if I was creating an article about a topic that was already deleted. Happened at least twice before and I simply ceased researching and writing on the topic. It didn't this time around, so I went on. And given the deletion discussion you shared, I can't help but agree. Thanks, know better now. UMStellify (talk) 05:19, 9 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Timeline of women's education

edit

As you may have noticed, I've been doing quite a bit of copy editing on this. I'm a bit worried about the prominence given to the United States. It seems to me that in particular the long 1984 passage on the court ruling would be better covered by a note. Also a bit worried about all the wikilinking. Some universities are linked multiple times while others are not linked at all. Let me know if you need help with anything else.--Ipigott (talk) 14:16, 13 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the copyedits. And yes, I noticed that there is quite a bit of undue weight given to United States. Especially over the last 150 years. I'm reading and researching, taking notes, to include more entries from around the world to make the entire timeline more balanced. Wikilinking is all over the place, for sure. I'll work on that with you. UMStellify (talk) 19:20, 13 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Unblock Request

edit

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

UMStellify (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

Hi, I logged in today to start editing Wikipedia again but when I opened a task from the Community Portal, a message popped up that my IP address has been blocked for causing disruptions to Wikipedia. My last edit, with the exception to a recent edit on my user page, was in December, and I've received no notices on my talk page. As such, I think this block is unrelated to my account and I might have been unintentionally blocked. Can you please unblock my account or let me know if there's anything I need to do on my end first? Thank you. UMStellify (talk) 20:27, 4 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only. You forgot to tell us your IP address so we can't investigate your claim. You can find this using WhatIsMyIP. If you don't wish to provide this publicly, you may use WP:UTRS to provide the IP address privately. Yamla (talk) 20:36, 4 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

IP block exempt

edit

I have granted your account an exemption from IP blocking. This will allow you to edit the English Wikipedia through full blocks affecting your IP address when you are logged in.

Please read the page Wikipedia:IP block exemption carefully, especially the section on IP block exemption conditions. Inappropriate usage of this user right may result in revocation. I hope this will enhance your editing, and allow you to edit successfully and without disruption. Yamla (talk) 21:23, 4 March 2024 (UTC) --Yamla (talk) 21:23, 4 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Yamla, thanks for removing the block. I'm reading the page you shared and it shouldn't be a problem, but I'm still a bit unclear as to what triggered the block in the first place, and as such, not entirely sure on how to avoid it in the future. I really hope it wasn't something I did by mistake, but it would be good to know if I was directly involved somehow. Do you have that information and is it possible for you to share? Thank you. UMStellify (talk) 22:00, 4 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
You did nothing wrong. You just happen to share an IP address range with a lot of abusive users. Essentially, you have a lot of bad neighbours in your Internet area. Hopefully they've got the hint with the block in question and don't come back. --Yamla (talk) 22:43, 4 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
