Carowinds

Hello ... we actually just went through this over in the articles for SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment. First of all, has the deal with Apollo gone through completely? At this point, I believe it's merely been announced, but not closed. Second, the sale is of greater effect to Cedar Fair at this point than it is to Carowinds itself. At this point, in my opinion, I would keep discussions about Apollo buying Cedar Fair only in Cedar Fair's article.

I would think that the heirarchy as theme parks go should be something like this: Attractions in parks reference only their parks, not who owns them. Parks should reference who owns them, not the changes in ownership that got to that point. The ownership groups should discuss who they are, how they got to this point, etc. We're trying to set this up in the articles for Walt Disney Parks & Resorts with decent success.

Perhaps this subject should be brought up in the talk pages for Cedar Fair and for Carowinds, that way we can get input from other editors. Thanks for your work and input, and Happy New Year!

It's not that I don't think the other information (presumably the historical commentary on [western] Christmas Eve sessions) isn't worth including; as I meant to imply in my edit summary, I just feel it would be better included somewhere in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act article – the one it actually relates to.
As to "we still don't know for sure", there may not actually be a conflict. Dodd referred to 1963 as last time the Senate met on Christmas Eve, citing a debate on Vietnam as the reason. The New York Times called 1895 the last time they had met for a vote (emphasis addded), so it's entirely possible both dates are accurate as each was used. (At least they both have reliable sources.) It was already discussed that they live in the suburbs of NYC or nearby Connecticut. I don't think the additional level of detail is encyclopedic nor enhances the reader's level of understanding of the show. This isn't a study to determine the exact whereabouts of Morning Glory Circle, and if one were to conduct one I don't think there would be much consistency. The writers didn't even agree on the state they were in, so this is hardly encyclopedic information. Closing Credits

It's been my experience that most shows that are broadcast on their first night (or even repeats on the origin channel) don't get their credit music heard because almost all studios use that time to plug upcoming episodes or other shows on the network. I don't believe this is a CW-only thing. I think what's special about it is that Smallville uses a pop culture song as it's opening, and then musical score at close. Most shows have the same for both. Desperate Housewives has that same Elfman score at the beginning and the end of each episode, but it's cut off short for then do the "Next week" promo.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 20:54, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

We already have the {{HD/med}} template which covers medical advice. This template may be handy for situations covering animals since a GP won't really be the correct person to look after those. You could list it under Template:Help_desk_templates, and i presume that there will be few issues if it were to be created in the template space. Did you just call Fuchs dirty? Cuz it's German for Fox? Umglaublich! Naughty boy! Fox is the purest defender of public morale. And Fuchs is still a big name in the industry - their installed base is huge.

The history of Voest is a curious affair, but you have already seen the de.wiki article. I ran into this topic collecting sources for Allied-occupied Austria, see its ref section - a lot of factual data on post-war recovery (and Nazi period too, but these articles were not visible on google books). Deleting browsing history

Thanks for the feedback at User talk:Richardguk#Deleting browsing history about Wikipedia:Bypass your cache#Internet Explorer, and thanks for correcting my typos at the project page. Your confusion is because you are looking at the "Tools" or "Security" buttons on your IE command bar, whereas more experienced Internet Explorer users are used to looking for "Tools" on the IE menu bar. Some editions of IE8 hide the menu bar (until you press the Alt key). The command bar is the one with the icons, underneath the IE search box at the top-right of the window. The menu bar, if visible, runs across the entire top of the window, with the menu commands (File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, Help) at the top-left. In this picture, the command bar is outlined in red, and the menu bar is the band immediately above it. Microsoft were trying to be helpful by introducing a pretty command bar but, as you have discovered, caused confusion with the traditional menu bar. That's why I added the shortcut keys as a third option: just press Ctrl-Shift-Delete to make the "Delete Browsing History" box appear (this works regardless of whether the menu bar or the command bar are visible!). — Richardguk (talk) 23:06, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

IE

You should ignore the advice to reinstall IE, anyway, since I was able to duplicate the behavior. It does seem like it's just an IE bug. Unfortunately, getting a programmer to fix a bug usually requires a reproducible case, and I was not able to repro the case at all (let alone create a list of steps that will make the bug occur every time, which is what programmers always demand). I did find this Microsoft page on which Microsoft claims they accept bug reports on a number of their products, including IE. You may get better results than on the forum by signing up and reporting the bug there. I advice being concise. Other than that, I'm afraid I can only repeat my recommendation to start using the mouse to go back and forward rather than using the alt-arrow keys, in the hope that the bug occurs only when using the alt-arrow keys for navigation. Hi VChimpanzee — OK, from the above link: 1. Sign in to their system, using the link in the upper right of the page. You will need a Windows Live ID if you don't already have one — if you don't have one, just sign up for one and then log in. 2. On the above link there is a line called "Internet Explorer Feedback Program". On this line there is a link called "apply". Click it. 3. A 1-page user survey appears. Fill it out and submit it. 4. A page appears talking about Internet Explorer v9. Click "Feedback" on the left. 5. Finally, the bug report page. There is a link called "How to File a Good Bug Report". Read it. Unfortunately they say it is "imperative" that you provide steps so they can reproduce the problem over at Microsoft. I recommend many apologies and statements that although you can't provide precise steps, you have seen it happen 50 times over the last nine months using IE8, or whatever. 6. They make you do a search for your bug before filling out the form. Do so. 7. On the search results page, there's a prominent orange "Submit Feedback" button. Click it. 8. Finally, the bug report form!!! Good luck. I do notice that they are mostly looking for Internet Explorer v9 feedback, but hopefully this is a bug that they will notice and react to even though it's under IE v8. Alt-tab, etc

When you wrote "The other buttons magically reappeared" on my talk page, did you mean "disappeared"? Otherwise I don't understand. If a taskbar button disappears and you can't get to it with alt-tab, then that means the window is gone forever. The people who write popup window code for Web sites can write the code such that it closes its own window, and in cases where a popup window's button disappears, it's either (a) that code closed its own window, or (b) your popup blocker closed the window. If a popup window disappears and then reappears, the reappearance is because the popup code got executed again on the Web page you visited.

As for the alt-arrow-keys bug, at this point you've found something that is obviously a bug and, of course, nobody on the Reference Desk is going to be able to help you any further; your choices are (a) use a different browser, (b) stop using the alt-arrows in IE, and use the mouse instead, or (c) report the bug to Microsoft and hope against all hope that they fix the bug in a forthcoming release.

Possibly interesting to you is that if you had noticed this bug in Firefox, you could write up the bug in a totally transparent way at the Mozilla "Bugzilla" database". You can also search for any bug in their database, and vote for the bugs you want to see fixed. (I don't know if the votes actually incentivize people to work on bugs, but the voting is a nice idea.)

I want to ask you again if you'd consider switching to Firefox. This would fix your arrow-keys problem, I think; and the free "Adblock Plus" extension for Firefox is so good that I have not seen a popup window in probably 2 years. I know you've said you "don't like" Firefox, for reasons I do not know; but Firefox seems to fix both of the problems that seems to consume most of your time on the Reference Desk. If you have trouble understanding Hopiakuta, you should bear in mind that he's using Wikipedia through a very different, and very out of date, set of hardware and software. And that hardware and software doesn't get along at all well with wikimarkup. Or so I understand. As it says on his talk page, you can ask Xeno if you have questions.

Hopiakuta has legitimate gripes with the way we do disambiguation, among other things. They are not really designed to provide a lowest-common-technical-denominator-ease-of-use solution, but rather to suit the 95% and more of people who have no physical problems with computers. So the result is that we aim help the people who don't really need help: fail, no? What Hopiakuta is suggesting, I think, is that those readers among the 95% who might be interested in the radio station could easily type WHOP in upper case, if they cared to, and the 5% who have trouble interacting will be best served by redirecting whop to the whopper dab page to give them the largest number of links to choose from.

I have changed things sort-of but not entirely back to the way they were. So whop now gets people to WHOP stations, whopper stuff, and a link to wiktionary. Thanks for the suggestion. But, generally, that kind of thing falls into the trivia category. Wikipedia is meant to be general information articles, and when it comes to episodes, the important things are plot, production and reception, with cultural references usually being included if they're sourced. The Mapple logo is more of a background joke than anything, which is why it isn't noted in the Mypods and Boomsticks page (and there's likely no source about it). The reason its not noted in pages about subsequent episodes is because the logo is almost always in the background, and thus it is more trivia than anything. -- Scorpion⁰⁴²² 19:04, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

You seem to be hitting WP:Village pump (policy) for all kinds of questions. The purpose of that page isn't to get advice on applying existing policies and guidelines; the purpose is to propose changes to existing policies or creation of new ones.

Instead, you can try (in order of decreasing appropriateness):

• The article's own talk pages
• Any relevant WP:Noticeboards (There are about 20.)
• Any WikiProject supporting the article (See WP:WikiProject Council/Directory.)
• WP:Village pump (miscellaneous)

I am writing in regards to the Don't Forget the Lyrics page. I am wondering why you are so adamant in erasing my part about the top winner.
