Asian 10,000 Challenge invite
Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:53, 21 October 2016 (UTC)

I see you have again opened a FLC, so all the best. Like last time, I do not mind being listed as co-nominator. But also like last time, I will not ask individual editors to post comments as it may border on canvassing. I just hope something else is done that brings the attention of editors to the FLC. ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!
Hello, Vensatry. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
Do you believe Major Chandrakanth (1966) should simply be titled "Major Chandrakanth", based on the above-linked policy? I don't think the unrelated 1993 Telugu film is equally notable. Same with the original Sattam Oru Iruttarai, whose 2012 remake is hardly relevant. Kailash29792 (talk) 11:59, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
- Ideally, Major Chandrakanth should redirect to the namesake play. But we don't have an article on it. As for SOI, the 1981 film is the primary topic. —Vensatry (talk) 05:35, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

2003 World Cup
The article looks in decent shape. I've given a quick copy-edit to the first section, but I'd prefer a few non-cricketers to look at the rest of it as I find it hard to see it from the eyes of a non-cricketer. Sibiraj or Sibi Sathyaraj?
While Sathyaraj's son is commonly known by the former name, the latter name is also used frequently in the media (though I think he did this to benefit from his father's fame). Currently, the article is titled "Sibi Sathyaraj", but do you think that is the more common name? Editor 2050, you are invited to discuss this. Kailash29792 (talk) 12:07, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

I created and worked on this as a purely recreational and refreshment activity. I never expected this to be this comprehensive finally. I have no plans of GA and others, but i believe that you can give some suggestions t improve this article, considering your experience with temple articles. Obviously only if you are free. Currently, it is at WP:GOCER for prose editing. Thank you. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 16:01, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Pavanjandhyala: You create/expand film articles religiously, and on the other hand when you do the same for temples it becomes a recreation/refreshment activity? :) Jokes apart, I must say the article looks in great shape, and I'm a bit surprised about WP not having an article on such an important temple all these years. A cursory glance reveals that it's certainly a GA material. But some important details are missing in the architecture and history sections. For eg., This one seems like a Chola temple, but I cannot find a mention about it anywhere in the article. I'll certainly review the article, if you are interested in going for a PR. In the meanwhile, you may contact User:Ravichandar84 and User:Ssriram mt – both are experts in this area and have quite a few GAs. User:Redtigerxyz and User:Ms Sarah Welch are equally good. —Vensatry (talk) 07:20, 7 January 2017 (UTC)

Your recent edits on Shriya Saran
Why are you removing character names? Anyone who sees those films would want to naturally fill in the blanks - you do not need it written in a "review" to put it on Wikipedia. These small items do not use sources. Use common sense. Editor 2050 (talk) 16:03, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
- Editor 2050, for character names which I can't find in reliable sources, I'd usually cite the film itself and the time mark when the character's name is mentioned, eg: Balachander, S. (director) (1954). Andha Naal (motion picture). India: AVM Productions. Name mentioned at 2:58. Is this format allowed, Vensatry? Kailash29792 (talk) 16:09, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Editor 2050: Can you please point out to the guideline which says "These small items do not use sources."? You're clearly violating WP:V. I'm sure it isn't a case of WP:OBVIOUS. And FYI, it's a WP:FL. The reviewers had asked me to remove certain 'roles' for which I couldn't find reliable sources. So please discuss before making nonsensical reverts. —Vensatry (talk) 04:02, 15 January 2017 (UTC)
- OK but some of the sources purely have references leading to the YouTube video. So as Kailash29792 pointed out - can we just add the names of those characters and link them back to a point in the movie. Editor 2050 (talk) 12:21, 15 January 2017 (UTC)
- For YT links, we need to have verified publishers. Not sure if Oopiri/Thozha is released over YT. —Vensatry (talk) 12:39, 15 January 2017 (UTC)

Since you significantly expanded it, I wonder if you have any plans to take to FL. Do you? I think it has great potential, and I have significantly reworked it. If I were to nominate it for FL, you don't mind being listed as co-nominator? Kailash29792 (talk) 10:06, 25 December 2016 (UTC)
- No, I don't! —Vensatry (talk) 11:37, 25 December 2016 (UTC)
- I'll consider that answer applies for both questions, and thank you. I'll get working on the PR soon enough. But before that, feliz Navidad. Kailash29792 (talk) 11:42, 25 December 2016 (UTC)

- Indeed it goes straight to FLC, but after the GOCE finishes editing. Kailash29792 (talk) 13:24, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
- Now that the GOCE has finished editing, I believe we may proceed? Kailash29792 (talk) 03:10, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
- An obstacle to finishing the FLC may lie in the fact that people may notice us calling Thala as "Ajith" rather than "Kumar" in violation of WP:LASTNAME. But "Kumar" doesn't appear to be a patronymic as his father's name was Mani (courtesy, Thala himself). What do we do? Ssven2, what do you say? Kailash29792 (talk) 17:49, 1 February 2017 (UTC)

First, Kumar isn't a surname; his father doesn't have that name attached to his, nor does his mother. Second, there are exceptions to WP:LASTNAME. Madonna is a good example. —Vensatry (talk) 18:22, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
- Just to give an example: Consider Rajinikanth/Vijayakanth and Rajini Kanth/Vijaya Kanth. Going by the 'logic', would you refer to them as Kanth? —Vensatry (talk) 18:25, 1 February 2017 (UTC)

Did you contribute to the list before? I will be ready to make you co-nominator for FLC if you can rework the lead. Also, is this the Firstpost source you said was dead? Please see again. Kailash29792 (talk) 06:46, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- Eh? this should give you a fair idea. In fact, I'm the top contributor and should probably be the one who's had the longest affair with it. —Vensatry (talk) 06:55, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- All right, I apologise and shall let you be the rightful main nominator, while I shall be secondary. Since you created the section "director, producer, writer and distributor", I hope you wouldn't mind adding sources to it. To ease the FLC process, I shifted Kamal's discography to a new article. Kailash29792 (talk) 07:20, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) It would be better to combine his films as actor with those of director, producer, writer and distributor, and include his films where he was having other positions (assistant choreographer, assistant director etc) under other and write his position under notes. The list can be a single one, something like Steven Spielberg filmography. The unreleased films can be a separate list though. — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 07:26, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- Eh, can we avoid this - at least on Indian film articles? Being a "dubbing artiste", "narrator" or a "playback singer" is almost a two minute sleepwalk role here, unlike in Hollywood. It's bizarre to see things like Silambarasan "played" Jamal Malik in Slumdog Millionaire. They are best kept on a different table à la Vikram filmography. Editor 2050 (talk) 10:52, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- I had FLC plans when I started around, but later gave up as it was almost impossible to source his 70s films. I have no issues adding you as a co-nom; no issues if you wish to nominate the article either. I'll try to cover up some missing entries. A separate article for discography makes sense. —Vensatry (talk) 07:31, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- Ssven2, the problem is we don't have enough information about films where he worked as a dance assistant/asst. director. The Vikatan link seems to have copied stuff from our article. I'm also not sure if he was a part of Nootrukku Nooru (guess I was the one who added it). He joined KB's camp at around 1972, so it's very unlikely that he was a part of the film. Should this succeed at the FLC, a thorough research needs to be done. —Vensatry (talk) 07:35, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- If that is what you say, I hope this source can be used as a replacement. Unlike Dhananjayan's books, I had backup plans if the Vikatan link was deemed inadmissible. Rajadhyaksha-Willemen's book (pages 117-118) contains a definitive list of Kamal's pre-90s films and did not plagiarise us since it is dated 1998 (even before Wiki was founded). Kailash29792 (talk) 07:44, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- Not sure if this is reliable either. But, I never doubted EIC's credibility. —Vensatry (talk) 07:47, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- The citwf ref looks like WP:MIRROR. Use EIC as much as you can. — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 07:54, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

Character names
Hi. How do you exactly plan on getting character names for actors' roles in the 70s and 80s, before the introduction of mainstream reviews? Those names on Kamal Haasan's page that I added were taken from streams of the various films on YouTube. Editor 2050 (talk) 10:47, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- Editor 2050, if his movies are on verified YouTube channels (see a tick near the username), then those videos can be cited here as sources for the character names. --Kailash29792 (talk) 11:05, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- Kailash29792, again this rule is outrageously ridiculous. If it's an unverified page - it's not like they have shot and released an untrustworthy, alternate two hour film featuring Kamal Haasan. You guys need to realise that these Tamil films are not as well coveraged as some of the Hollywood templates you are looking up to. The focus should be on completion - this is an encyclopaedia, not a race to get a Featured List. These are links to the actual film. Surely, there is no way to get some of these names otherwise? First "Chinnamma", now this. Editor 2050 (talk) 11:33, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

- Editor2050, it's not 'ridiculous' but being respectful (to the copyright holders). —Vensatry (talk) 17:00, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- You mean there's no way to find a RS to cite the character names? Not even cite the movies themselves from verified YouTube channels? Gosh, if only Rotten Tomatoes/Metacritic could add the character names in their pages based on public request... Kailash29792 (talk) 17:53, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

- E.g: Take Paruva Kaalam (1974) (Here on the internet only on a "non-official" channel). At 1:30:12, he is addressed as Chandra. This piece of information will forever remain missing - if you insist on having to source names. Do character names even need sources? They are so trivial. Editor 2050 (talk) 18:38, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- @both: Are we really unable to understand the point here? —Vensatry (talk) 06:15, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
- I think I do. Perhaps we could cite the movie without the URL. But did you not see my question? Kailash29792 (talk) 06:59, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
- But how can you do that? Do you have a DVD? Btw, what did you mean by this? —Vensatry (talk) 08:55, 7 February 2017 (UTC)

I've decided to close the PR and move ahead. Am I supposed to tell someone to close it, or do something else? On an unrelated note, Thala's filmography has not gained any comments, and someone must do something. Kailash29792 (talk) 10:08, 26 January 2017 (UTC)
- You can manually close it. —Vensatry (talk) 10:13, 26 January 2017 (UTC)
