Deletion of East of Eden Band deletion

To Vianello: Can't open the userfied restore of East of Eden Band you added. Can you assist or add one that opens? 04:29, 10 May 2009 Vianello (talk | contribs) moved East of Eden Band to User:PulitzerBoard/Eden [without redirect] ‎ (Userfying) 04:28, 10 May 2009 Vianello (talk | contribs) restored "East of Eden Band" ‎ (25 revisions restored: Restoring for userfication) —Preceding unsigned comment added by PulitzerBoard (talkcontribs)

Did you delete the right one? East of Eden (rock band) had no views in April 2009 and East of Eden Band, the original spoken word band, had over 200, I believe. Increase the Spoken Word article and return the spoken word band article because these are more relevant with new HBO slam shows. Can you return the East of Eden Band spoken word article for few days so we can copy it and maybe fix it up for our uses? PulitzerBoard (talk) 17:08, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Deletion of Soekris

edit

You deleted this article under the speedy deletion "A7: Article about a company, corporation, organization, or group, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject."

From looking at the Google cached version this was 100% correct, but someone should try to make a real article about that company and their products.

They make a series of extremely popular embedded communication systems boards. The boards come highly recommended and they are widely supported by the open source community. A good wikipedia article discussion their products and the pros and cons would be helpful.

If you know any contributors in the area, could you send them that way to get an actual article on the topic written?

The morgawr (talk) 03:47, 6 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'd like to contest the deletion, this is a well known company, especially in the BSD and purpose-built Linux communities. Please restore it and have a vote or whatever. Hobart (talk) 17:18, 13 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Deletion of Paul Kalkbrenner

edit

I would like to ask for a review of the matter. Your reason was: "A7: Article about a band, singer, musician, or musical ensemble, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject." As I indicated, he also appears as the main character in the film Berlin Calling, which got a lot of attention in Germany. And the film is not a documentary about him, he plays a fictional character. Treasure Hunt

edit

Dear Vianello,

While I appreciate that this may sound like a joke, it is a serious compition. There are three (currently anonymous) sponsers who are putting up $16,666 each. I have been asked to do all the setting up and creating of the treasure hunt and clues. It is our hope that we can get some media coverage of it , at which point the compitions sponsers will reveal themselves an get some advertising. However, all three were soncerned about the possibilty of negative coverage, so don't want to be known at this time.

You also pointed out that you don't think it is an appropriate use of space, but I would point out that should there be any media coverge, Wikipeidia would also get a fair amount of free advertising.

By deleting it, not only are you stopping these tthings, but you will also stop somebody becoming $50,000 richer, and a lot of people having fun. The compition be banned from Wikipedia, I'm sure some other website would accept it, and Wikipeidia would end up with a lot of negative publicity for not allowing it. While it may come to this, Wikipedia was the website of choice due to it's large fanbase and popularity

I will remind you that should you delete it, you will not be eligable for the prize. I wish you good luck and happy hunting - plus you are probably one of the first people to find the first clue, thus can get a good headstart on it.

Please reconsider,

Yours sincerly,

--DoodleHammer (talk) 06:33, 26 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

I got a similar note on my talk page. I left a note about this alleged treasure hunt at WP:ANI. Because I am not sure that any of this person's edits are aimed at improving Wikipedia rather than writing more clues to this hunt, I have systematically reverted them. -- Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 11:57, 26 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'd like you to revisit your decision to delete Smallbox CMS

edit

Hello, while I understand why you may have thought the page in question, Smallbox CMS may have appeared to be spam, it isn't. I must admit that I built the page as a live page, instead of in my sandbox and this is my error. My intent was to get input from a range of editors on the page, and what you saw was the rough framework for the page. It has since been written in a compliant style. I have updated the page for review and ask you to undo your action. Kind regards. Shawnerbee (talk) 00:18, 23 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Metapedia is deleted and salted as a non-notable website. I think it should be redirected to Matapédia, a river in Quebec and related things. Metapedia appears to be an alternative spelling, perhaps old. Also, I have noticed the reason why "Vianallo" was promoted after your RfA. See my comments on User_talk:Anonymous_Dissident#Hiya_and_thanks.21. GT5162 (我的对话页) 16:56, 25 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Nope, I don't use Wikia at all. If they're an admin here, it's under another name. The "Vianallo" admin promotion was just a typo/slip-up on my promoter's part to my knowledge. It was set straight when I cleared my throat a little. I checked out your comment on that. Weird, I must say. And a little suspicious. Not on Anonymous Dissident's part, I mean, but the other user's, if it wasn't just a side-effect of AD promoting a nonexistent user or something. I've provided further comment on the talk section you linked to. - Vianello (Talk) 01:19, 26 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Deletion of Wakooz

edit

I would like to ask for a review of the matter. Your reason was: "(A7: Article about a web site, blog, web forum, webcomic, podcast, browser game, or similar web content, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject)." Wakooz may be online since January 2009, but it is a website generating trafic as much as the others listed in Wikipedia on the same category. edit

Regarding Mutual Help Fund of Personnel of Ionian-Popular Bank and Other Banks, the fact that it was speedy-deleted would really be considered a great joke in Greece. It is like saying that the article United States of America was speedy-deleted by an African due to it not indicating the importance of significance of the subject. Giorgos Skoulikis (talk) 04:15, 15 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

A simple googling would quickly reveal the importance of the subject, given the huge political controversy that surrounds it and the great battles that happen every time in its elections. Giorgos Skoulikis (talk) 04:17, 15 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

As for the article, I had already indicated the importance of it because I clearly referred to the Ionian Bank and Alpha Bank. It is like talking about JPMorgan Chase or Morgan Stanley. Giorgos Skoulikis (talk) 04:23, 15 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

And, in case you didn't understand, the fact that you speedy-deleted it would be taken for a politically motivated move in Greece, and the only thing that saves you is that you are an American and therefore probably unaware of its implications, except if you are a Greek American and your move was really political. But if I now showed your speedy deletion to another Greek without revealing your origin, you would probably be taken for a right-winger conservative and be considered anathema by the progressives. Adequate paraphrasing ?

edit

Please read § 2 here : http://www.lesternsumitra.com/lester/filmo61nidana.htm and look at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Nidhanaya&oldid=137028115

Do you actually think it provides adequate paraphrasing ?

By the way, do you actually believe this screenshot is scanned from a newspaper ?

Chaoborus (talk) 12:33, 15 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

No, I stated the paraphrasing was adequate because I didn't think it was adequate. It was opposite day that day, you see. But my facetiousness aside, if you feel the paraphrasing is inadequate, I do more than respect that though. It's pretty darn subjective, and an AfD or PROD wouldn't be a move I'd at all find unreasonable if you wanted to get other input. Or, heck, ask another admin if you see fit. I'm by no means any sort of final authority, just somebody making a subjective judgement call. At any rate, the image is a moot point. There's no need to ask me to confirm my opinion on a picture I've never voiced an opinion on. - Vianello (Talk) 04:12, 17 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your answer. (I'm feeling a bit hampered by my poor english.) My question about the picture was only a way to imply that Lanka07 was maybe a too-light-on-copyrights user (many deleted files on copyright terms here). Hello, I'm an admin from vi.wiki. Our wikipedia is dealing with many mass vandalism recently and we adopted some tools to make it clean and clear. Ahh, it's all there. Alrighty, sorry for the interruption! –davewho2 (talk) 19:29, 13 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Oh crap. So, I reviewed an unblock request from the ip, and declined it since they were persistently edit warring. They requested unblock again and pointed out that it is impossible for one person to edit war. I saw this as a fair objection, so I left a general warning about edit warring on the article's talk page, and blocked another editor who had also gone beyond 3RR. That editor was LtFury, and I only noticed afterword that you were already discussing the situation with him. I was only trying to be fair, as it seemed rather unbalanced to block only one party in an edit war where both users went over the line, but now I feel like I stepped on your toes. If you think LtFury understands the situation and won't repeat his actions, I have no objection to you undoing my block of him. Beeblebrox (talk) 20:34, 13 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Vianello, I understood the lesson... If I fix and I improve the article it will be possible to put it on Wiki again? The Band won a lot of prizes and is currently very often on Virgin Radio. Thanks and my best regards. PlaneShift vandalism Part 2

edit

Sorry to ask you again to check the PlaneShift (video game) page, but User:SpigotMap decided to continue vandalizing it by reverting all edits made by plenty of editors. That's not acceptable. He deleted all references and sources added. I've added them back, but I think the user should be banned. --Xyz231 (talk) 18:35, 1 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi Vianello, I see at WP:UAA that you are discussing with User:BigCityChefs their username. Isn't this one a fairly blatant violation? I'm just trying to understand the process better. The username surely promotes "the Los Angeles Area's elite agency for restaurant quality personal chefs" (according to their website!) Please understand this isn't a criticism, I know that sometimes it's appropriate to take a more gentle approach, but you even said to the user that there's nothing wrong with the work that they're doing - the only contributions that I can see seem to involve promoting their business. Regards, --BelovedFreak 10:01, 10 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks for your explanation. I suppose I saw it as more of a username issue than an issue with their edits, although they looked like they might be on the way to being promotional. I can understand not blocking on the basis of those edits, but thought that the username was a blatant violation. Anyway, thanks for taking to time to explain.--BelovedFreak 10:42, 11 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I just wanted to shed some light on the reverts that got this editor banned. At first glance, they would not appear to be vandalism, but I'm pretty sure that is the case. Over the last month or so, it seems that whenever I make a number of edits to the same article, an IP reverts them as vandalism. My work involved adding references, fixing references, fixing text per WP:MOSBIO which is clearly not vandalism. One article that had no references, I added 8 of them, only to have it reverted as vandalism. Off the top of my head, I belive there was about 6 articles that an IP kept reverting for no reason, while all the edits I made to those articles were explained in the edit summary. I know the rules on the 3 reverts, but the above user was only trying to revert the vandalism and I find it quite frustrating that those reverts were what got him banned. I know that I did nothing wrong, but if someone has to banned, I would accept it myself so that the editor who helped me out, doesn't get punished because of an IP who is harassing me. I know about blocked and banned, just wrote the wrong word. As for you asking were we talking about the same edits, yes, those edits are the ones I'm talking about. Look at the history of those articles, and you will see that I had done alot of work on some of them, cleaning them up and adding references, only to have an IP keep reverting back to the edit before mine and calling my work vandalism. Looks like the IP is just removing my edits for the fun of it. Articles include John Efford, Len Goucher, John Chataway, Ian McClelland and a few others. Cmr08 (talk) 03:42, 12 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
Totally bogus block, and you know it. Otherwise, why was my block for 12 hrs while the other guy's block was for 31? Isn't that tacit acknowledgement that I was right? Woogee (talk) 18:08, 12 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
Excuse me butting in here, but according to policy, blocking is to prevent - not to punish. There is, ASFAIK, no rule that stipulates that sysops must block for infringements to a 3r rule. IHMO, there often are better ways of intervening when normal, consciensous editors are involved.--Kudpung (talk) 06:01, 23 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
