New Page Reviewer granted
Hi Whiteguru. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group. Please check back at WP:PERM in case your user right is time limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:
- Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
- If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
- Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible. Done
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. Chetsford (talk) 22:39, 7 July 2020 (UTC)

@Lettler: Your reference to WP:FOOTYLEAGUE does not cite 4th level division football as eligible for notability. --Whiteguru (talk) 10:59, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Whiteguru: Can you really read ? This is a quote from the lead-in at WP:FOOTYLEAGUE: ″This page is part of the WikiProject on Football and provides a list of known fully professional leagues, and also those that are known to not be fully professional. As such, this list can be used as an aid in considering the WP:NFOOTBALL guideline, which states that "Players who have played, and managers who have managed in a competitive game between two teams from fully-professional leagues, will generally be regarded as notable."″ (my underlining the important stuff in this context). And then you go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Fully professional leagues#Men's leagues and look for England and there you will find this list of divisions: England – Premier League, EFL Championship, EFL League One, EFL League Two. And the latter one are a predecessor of Football League Fourth Division. Best regards Migrant (talk) 21:13, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Migrant: Yes, I have read this many times while doing NPP. If you don't like it, take it to RfC for a community clarification. The community needs to state that Football League Fourth Division is read as one with EFL League Two, which does not specify a Fourth Division -- Whiteguru (talk) 22:40, 17 September 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for reviewing Cookie Dough Bites (Candy) - why is it still not showing up in Google search?
Hi, thank you for reviewing Cookie Dough Bites (Candy) article. I'm confused as to why it isn't showing up in Google search after review and after 90 days of its creation?
Can you help? I created the article in place of a similar article that had been simply reduced to a redirect to "Cookie Dough". Is that decade-old re-direct keeping this new Cookie Dough Bites (candy) page from being indexed? I just can't see any reason why it's not showing up in my searches and I'm confused as to the process or issue. Thank you! /MarvelJason/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by MarvelJason (talk • contribs) 17:24, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
- @MarvelJason: You need to engage in search engine optimisation. So search for it, search using the page url, search using wikipedia "Cookie Dough Bites" (or reverse that). The talk page is coming up with similar results. Is there any particular reason why you are concerned about this? -- Whiteguru (talk) 19:32, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
Hi @Whiteguru Yeah, the talk page has been coming up for months in search, which is why I think there's a weird issue with that old re-direct from a decade ago, which I can't seem to get rid of. I'm thinking it's a weird technical issue causing the search to never find anything other than Cookie Dough (which is where the redirect has pointed to the last ten years).
As for why I'm interested? Well, I'm just trying to learn more about Wikipedia and how to navigate it and contribute to it, and it's been more serpentine and confusing than I expected it to be, so when I come upon something that doesn't make sense, I'm trying to understand it. I'm a noted and (I hope) respected candy historian and have published hundreds of articles on the subject, and oftentimes I find the historical accuracy of Wikipedia pages on candy history to be wanting, if not wildly inaccurate. So, if I can, I'd like to contribute to improving some of that accuracy, over time. But I want to understand the ins and outs of the system, and it's still mysterious on many levels to me, this search issue included. It took me a couple weeks just to figure out how to properly annotate an article.
I really did think the re-direct is preventing Google Search from ever seeing the article, optimization notwithstanding, but I'll keep trying and see what happens. Still lots to learn for me. Thanks for responding!
-Jason — Preceding unsigned comment added by MarvelJason (talk • contribs) 20:28, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Whiteguru: Hi again, I'm still confused as to why everything BUT the page itself is showing up in search. The reference photo is, the talk page is, but the only page that shows up in search is for "Cookie Dough" which is where the old redirect page directed to. Is there anyway to get rid of all of that redundant re-direct page business? The talk page seems to also be for something someone tried to create a decade ago but failed, so it's not germane to this article. Still confused. It seems clear that, given how the redirect is structured, it will always hide this page from search. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MarvelJason (talk • contribs) 04:09, 22 September 2020 (UTC) Investigating...

New Page Patrol December Newsletter
Hello Whiteguru,
- Year in review
It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.

- Reviewer of the Year
John B123 has been named reviewer of the year for 2020. John has held the permission for just over 6 months and in that time has helped cut into the queue by reviewing more than 18,000 articles. His talk page shows his efforts to communicate with users, upholding NPP's goal of nurturing new users and quality over quantity.
- NPP Technical Achievement Award
As a special recognition and thank you DannyS712 has been awarded the first NPP Technical Achievement Award. His work programming the bot has helped us patrol redirects tremendously - more than 60,000 redirects this past year. This has been a large contribution to New Page Patrol and definitely is worthy of recognition.
