Conway Christ Redneck Superstar
Hi Whiteguru, Thanks for the feedback. You have placed the template for "notability for music". However, as this was a theatre production, the topic is therefore theatre not music, and accordingly I believe it is incorrect to use that template. I have amended the page to clarify the topic. If you have a moment please remove the template. Thanks for your help. Annepatriciajones (talk) 01:47, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for the clarification, however, the template is about the topic of music not musicals. I agree that musicals is the correct category and therefore notability in relation to music is inappropriate. I'll do my best to improve the article.Annepatriciajones (talk) 04:34, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
- Annepatriciajones I thank you for your courtesy, and I thank you for your determination. --Whiteguru (talk) 04:36, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
About "List of number-one songs of 2018 (Turkey)"
I just received your message. It's nice to be appreciated.
About your complaint: Citing the sources takes a long time for me (about 2 to 3 hours for a whole page) and I'm too lazy for that. I will do it when I get unbusy, maybe in Summer. Because I'm getting prepared for an exam, which will decide on the university I'll go to. I hope you understand it. Thank you.

- @Pinchface05: Lot of work, as I said. Granted, Uni exams are important, I went through that too. OTOH, I also spend up to three or more hours on music articles, so I can understand. I'll put this on my watchlist and look for the page during Summer. --Whiteguru (talk) 07:51, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

Reviewing articles
Hi! Since you reviewed this article, can you review this one and this one as well? I'm confused whether these articles fulfill the WP:NMUSIC or not. Thank you! Byy2 (talk) 12:35, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Byy2: Hello. A word to the wise about your editing the sentence above. You can get yourself into a lot of bother by changing things, in the same previous edit. Best thing to do is to start a new line or sentence prefixed by
:
or::
as the case may be. You will find that this indents the line and makes it easier to read new edits.- @Byy2: WP:NMUSIC basically requires independent, reliable secondary sources to provide notability to a musician. A musician (or singer)(or band) website or Youtube page - or Facebook page - or Weibo - is generally treated as a primary source. This means it cannot be accepted as a reference supplying notability for the article. I hope this helps. --Whiteguru (talk) 23:46, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Byy2: The notability tag ViVi (singer) stays on the page because most of the links given are about the group, or Loona⅓ ... these don't count. What is needed is independent, reliable, secondary reviews of Vivi. Group pages, photo shoots, youtube, charts and discography are not of any use. The article still requires notability. --Whiteguru (talk) 00:02, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Byy2: About OED or Loona Odd Eye Circle: articles about members of the group are not articles about the group OED or Loona Odd Eye Circle (which does not get mentioned in individual reviews). The group needs notability, not the individual members. Some references will not translate to English using Google translate. So all the links about Girl of the Month are basically not adding any notability. And while the group has a program of revealing new members each month, the group has to establish notabilty as specified in WP:NMUSIC So we get to the three youtubes, these establish there is a group, and then the first interview that establishes the group comes. All other links before this DONT COUNT. The charts are minor additions to notability. I have edited the article as it *just* meets WP:NMUSIC. It would be meet and fitting if you were to improve the article and find some more articles / interviews / reviews of the group OED or Loona Odd Eye Circle. Not the individual members. --Whiteguru (talk) 00:24, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Whiteguru: Thank you for answering! It really helped me, I'm going to try to come up with something then. --Byy2 (talk) 01:11, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Whiteguru: Sorry, one more thing, what thing that makes this article notable that this page doesn't have? --Byy2 (talk) 04:37, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Byy2: The group OED or Loona Odd Eye Circle (not girl of the month) needs one more long review or interview. --Whiteguru (talk) 05:18, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

D 812 (Schubert)
Thanks for your work in reviewing Sonata in C major for piano four-hands, D 812 (Schubert). I understand this is now a "WP:GA" wotsit, having performed many jumps through multiple hoops; am I supposed to be persuaded that it is actually a good article? I'm not, because the one question you don't seem to have asked (probably not in the List of Hoops) is "Is the majority of the article about the purported topic?" The topic is a piece of music, but all we get is a tiny section in the middle, just a "list of movements". I'm sorry, I could write a long critique, which would be mostly negative, but I really meant just to ask: is there normally any discussion after these decisions, and where? Please respond here, but the substantive issue is not really about you at all. Thanks. Imaginatorium (talk) 07:31, 26 February 2021 (UTC)
I have the same question. I don't believe that an article about a composition can be a Good article without at least a bit about the music, even if there are no written rules about it. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:47, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

- I am old-fashioned and always try to speak to a user first before following procedures. At least you pointed me at the correct place ;) - the other user suggested the article talk. Our question is serious, and perhaps an article about a composition can be a Good article when the topic of it's music - which I believe would be the key part - is barely touched, - I'd still like your point of view but understand if you have more important things to do. Perhaps the question was worded a bit to pointed, - I apologize if you think so. You could still answer the more polite question by Imaginatorium. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:08, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: I appreciate your courtesy, and your old-world manners. Would that it were that there were more so inclined. If I look to past classical compositions in GA Classical Compositions Reviews completed, I find articles selected at random have a movements section, similar to that in Schubert 815D

My sensus plenior is that the movements sections are comparable, and that the article on D 812 (Schubert) is relatively robust when compared to these other - selected at random. Only Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto has examples of music from the compositions. While I may recommend inclusion of music pieces as sound files on a Good Article nomination under the guise of improving the article, the nominee would be perfectly at rights to demur. It is evident that other reviewers over time - in this category - have not made similar demand. It is clearly not a requirement.
I thank you for your kind iteration. --Whiteguru (talk) 08:47, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you for a detailed response. Interesting that of your random selection, I wrote most (all but 2). Perhaps we don't yet talk about the same thing. I don't mean audio examples, which I actually most often think clutter the text. I mean details about the music, beyond a mere table. Example Magnificat in E-flat major, BWV 243a, we have a table of the movements, but also details for the individual movements below it. In the Schubert, we have no table, but short paragraphs containing practically technical data such as tempos, keys, markings, - that gives me no idea why this music is regarded as a pinnacle. I believe that a reader who has only time for that section should get that idea, and not being forced to digest the load of historical commentary and reception. See the Wood Nymph (not by me). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:13, 1 March 2021 (UTC)

- (With regard to your suggestion, it is GAN Drive month, and I may not be able to respond to your suggestion, nonetheless, I shall note your courtesy.
- (ec) Whiteguru, I'd be wary to learn anything from Gerda's (or Imaginatorium's) comments above. A list of movements in tabular format makes sense for vocal compositions with over five movements where each movement has a different text and a different set of performers. Such tables are, for instance, included in my GAs BWV 243 and Magnificat (Torri). For purely instrumental compositions, with a limited set of movements and no lyrics to be mentioned for each of the movements, and where each movement is performed by the same musicians (e.g., in the Sonata's case, each movement being played by two pianists at a single piano), such table mostly doesn't make much sense. Is there *any* GA for such a composition with a table of movements (the Mendelssohn violin concerto article doesn't have it)? Then the critics fall over their own words, reproaching that the music description of the Sonata's article is a mere "list of movements" (which it isn't) and that it doesn't have such a list of movements (while there is no table). And so we could go on, and on: seems like throwing as much mud at the wall as possible, in the hope something would stick.
- IMHO, the underlying problem has a different nature. Afaics, Gerda kind of has the habit to present articles for GA that are far from ready to be approved as such. Then, quite evidently, they receive long lists of remarks on the state of the article, and they have hardly the time to resolve all of that within the projected week a GAC assessment and fine-tuning should last. I did the same on my first two GACs a long time ago (the second failing for that reason), and then I learned from that: don't present an article for GAC before it is quite ready to be promoted as such. My last two GACs passed with little or no remarks, so I think I learned well, and didn't squander the time of my fellow Wikipedians by presenting them something which at least needs a few hours to compile a list of remarks on, and much more time before all issues are settled. So, I'd invite the critics above to stop their knee-jerk reaction on my most recent GA passing in due time without needing a second pass after the reviewer's comments. The article's talk page can be used for further improvement suggestions, and frankly, I'd be happy to learn your ideas on what further improvements or intermediate steps might be recommended if we want to take the article to a next level such as FAC. --Francis Schonken (talk) 11:10, 1 March 2021 (UTC)

Some feedback on your review of Jacinda Ardern
Hello,
You just passed Jacinda Ardern, and I do think it's close to meeting the criteria. While I believe there was too much WP:Proseline for the article to pass immediately, it's your choice of course as the primary reviewer.
It seemed however you were confusing two criteria in your review. The well-written mostly refers to prose and compliance with the manual of style, whereas you were noting various aspect of the 'broad in its coverage' criteria.
A further consideration for future reviews is to use fewer section headings, as the GA review is transcluded on the talk page, and is taking up a very big chunk of the table of content, making navigation difficult. By saying so much about what is good about the article, it was difficult to understand what could use improvement. FemkeMilene (talk) 19:57, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Femkemilene: Noted. With thanks. Yes, I am aware of the huge chunks of the talk page taken up. I am at present exploring other ways of presenting a review. --Whiteguru (talk) 20:06, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
- The Wikipedia:Good_article_nominations/templates aren't bad, but simply focussing on actionable improvements (and summarising what good in a single paragraph) would also work :). FemkeMilene (talk) 20:21, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Femkemilene: I thank you for your generosity. I used one of the templates on my last review. Your comments have somewhat given cause for further reflection about the length and content of reviews, and your comments above are appreciated. --Whiteguru (talk) 21:12, 1 March 2021 (UTC)

Issuing level 1 warning about removing AfD template from articles before the discussion is complete. (Peachy 2.0 (alpha 8))
Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles, or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion debates, as you did with Octav Chelaru. Otherwise, it may be difficult to create consensus. If you oppose the deletion of an article, please comment at the respective page instead. This is an automated message from a bot about this edit, where you removed the deletion template from an article before the deletion discussion was complete. If this message is in error, please report it.—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 07:41, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
- Closed procedurally. You may re-nominate it again if you wish. However, I would recommend using Twinkle instead of page curation since the latter tool is quite broken. ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 07:54, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Aseleste: Understood. It got very messy, pages popped up I had never seen before with template instructions I tried to follow. In the end I could not get it to display properly on the AfD log so I removed it, knowing there would be a trail of my actions. I stopped using XFD closer last year, as it broke while I was using it. Henceforth, I shall use Twinkle. --Whiteguru (talk) 21:48, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
I have unreviewed a page you curated
Hi, I'm Kashmorwiki. I wanted to let you know that I saw the page you reviewed, Dhrubo Banerjee, and have marked it as unpatrolled. If you have any questions, please ask them on my talk page. Thank you.

Might you be interested
Hi Whiteguru, I have nominated Patrick Francis Healy for FAC. Since you were the GAN reviewer, I thought you might be able to contribute some helpful comments at FAC. Admittedly, I'm a bit wary that the nom might fail for lack of input, which would be a shame because I think Healy had such an interesting life. If you have a free moment and are interested in doing a FAC review, you'd certainly have my thanks. Ergo Sum 15:21, 16 April 2021 (UTC)

Any Suggestions for improvement of Warsaw Radio Mast
Of course, due to suspected sockpuppetry of my account and others, it would be reasonable to take away the GA status of the Warsaw Radio Mast. However, does it fit the standard for a Good Article? Is it possible to get suggestions on how to improve it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by BasedMises (talk • contribs) 01:02, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- @BasedMises: This article has lost GA status before. First, attend to the issues that caused the page to lose GA status. Thereafter, you may tag the page {{GAR request}} and another reviewer may take this up. --Whiteguru (talk) 01:06, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- It lost GA status before 2010 (im not sure when) I would just like any suggestions on impoving the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BasedMises (talk • contribs) 11:09, 22 April 2021 (UTC+10) (UTC)

I, on behalf of a handful of Wiki editors, would like to thank you for finding time and taking Magtymguly Pyragy for a GA review. He was a remarkable poet and a devout sufi and is known and praised across the Central Asia, Russia, Iran and Turkey. A couple of specific editors, including me, spent hours trying to improve this article and bring it at least to the level where it is now. We appreciate your efforts immensely. Take care! --VisioncurveTimendi causa est nescire 04:07, 26 April 2021 (UTC)

Tagging my pages
Please don't tag my pages with the notability template. Check out Book Marks for each page I create. That demonstrates notability obviously (see here for Doom, for example). Reviews from The Evening Standard, The New York Times Book Review, The Scotsman, etc. I'll have to revert all those you did. Also stop spamming my talkpage with worthless templates. Thanks. Feedback Request: Youth Coalition for Organ Donation
Good morning. I founded The YCOD and also created the Wikipedia page for it. I don’t want there to be an issue with a conflict of interest (I declared it on my page, but I wasn’t sure what else to do). How do I fix the page to remove the page issues notes (like it being worded like an advert)? Can I fix it, or do I need to wait for another editor to do it, so it’s not a COI? I really want the page to be accurate and not a lie or an ad, and I want to solve the page issues, too. Evanroden1 (talk) 11:50, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
- Evanroden1 Thank you for your message of concern. I have reviewed the page and passed it for purposes of New Page Patrol. I raised declaration of COI as a matter of protecting both your good self and the article; I was not raising any deleterious matters. It is possible to revert the advertisement tag by including (and citing) more material from the media mentions referenced on the main page of your website. You have quite a quantity of media coverage on that page. Look for supportive angles, include them in the article and cite them. That is the best recommendation I may offer. Thank you. --Whiteguru (talk) 11:59, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
Discontent Content Issue 4
Welcome, subscribers, to the fourth Discontent Content newsletter! Discontent Content is a newsletter aiming to collate and improve Wikipedia articles in need of more eyes and hands to get them in shape. Its unique trimodal structure allows editors to work where they feel comfortable -- with stubs and starts needing to be brought to standard, mid-quality articles with Good or Featured potential, or quality-assessed articles needing help to maintain their status. Articles in this category are those that need to be brought up to a minimum quality standard. Some will be stubs; others will be longer articles that nonetheless have significant concerns putting them far below B- or C-class adequacy. This issue's Category 1 articles are:
Articles in this category, while in better current shape than Category 1, are still missing something. They have the potential to be truly high-quality content, and may have been at one point. With work, they can be brought up to dizzying heights. This issue's Category 2 articles are:
Articles in this category have been assessed through a content review process in the past, but may require work to be brought up to current GA/FA standard. Editors can help bring them to a level where the star or plus near their names can once again shine. This issue's Category 3 articles are:
This issue's reader suggestion is brought to you by Sennecaster:
Yes, I know I said I was going to switch to monthly. Let's just go "Vat doesn't really Get Time" and run with it. The Core Contest is on its last day of entries, and I've picked articles here with an eye to that. It's the first time it's running since 2017, and I for one am looking forward to overhauling Prehistoric religion. If you feel inspired by anything here, get in there quick! |
