Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months.

Hello Woodensuperman, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

Backlog

As of 21 October 2018, there are 3650 unreviewed articles and the backlog now stretches back 51 days.

Community Wishlist Proposal
Project updates
  • ORES predictions are now built-in to the feed. These automatically predict the class of an article as well as whether it may be spam, vandalism, or an attack page, and can be filtered by these criteria now allowing reviewers to better target articles that they prefer to review.
  • There are now tools being tested to automatically detect copyright violations in the feed. This detector may not be accurate all the time, though, so it shouldn't be relied on 100% and will only start working on new revisions to pages, not older pages in the backlog.

Template:Burger King

I reverted your removal of links on Template:Burger King. For starters, many new Portals are being created on Wikipedia, and portals need links that link to them, so readers will be aware of their existence. Navigation templates have been a traditional place to add such links. Not sure why you removed them, but please keep this in mind, because it's important for readers to be able to find content. North America1000 22:50, 2 November 2018 (UTC)

Nb. After reverting your edit, I did re-remove the Commons link, though as per WP:NAV-WITHIN. North America1000 22:56, 2 November 2018 (UTC)

Hi. Nothing wrong with changing it into a dab... but please be aware that in doing so, it created over 350 dab links in need of repair. Onel5969 TT me 23:20, 12 November 2018 (UTC)

Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months.

Hello Woodensuperman,

Community Wishlist Survey – NPP needs you – Vote NOW
  • Community Wishlist Voting takes place 16 to 30 November for the Page Curation and New Pages Feed improvements, and other software requests. The NPP community is hoping for a good turnout in support of the requests to Santa for the tools we need. This is very important as we have been asking the Foundation for these upgrades for 4 years.
If this proposal does not make it into the top ten, it is likely that the tools will be given no support at all for the foreseeable future. So please put in a vote today.
We are counting on significant support not only from our own ranks, but from everyone who is concerned with maintaining a Wikipedia that is free of vandalism, promotion, flagrant financial exploitation and other pollution.
With all 650 reviewers voting for these urgently needed improvements, our requests would be unlikely to fail. See also The Signpost Special report: 'NPP: This could be heaven or this could be hell for new users – and for the reviewers', and if you are not sure what the wish list is all about, take a sneak peek at an article in this month's upcoming issue of The Signpost which unfortunately due to staff holidays and an impending US holiday will probably not be published until after voting has closed.

Removing Cats

The category for the Alpha Phi Omega template is in the Noinclude section, so I don't see how the entries in WP:CAT#TCAT apply. It isn't being used to force the articles that it is in to be in the Category:Alpha Phi Omega.Naraht (talk) 17:05, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

But I see that the section above does apply. I will revert.Naraht (talk) 17:07, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, Woodensuperman. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Luther Russell

I've undone your recent excision from the article. Unfortunately, it was all properly referenced, if done in PR language style. I may take the time to 'un-PR' it, or you might also. You can verify that I'm the editor who tried to PROD this article into deserved oblivion, but now that it's ben rescued, the guidelines for non-POV editing need to prevail. I'm about to leave an ironic rant on the WP:MUS Talk page. If you check out the reason given to block the PROD and then read my exchange with the blocker on the Russell Talk page you may enjoy the rant. Regards Tapered (talk) 03:18, 20 November 2018 (UTC)

Sorry, I'm breaking a promise. I havaen't go the stomach for a rant, or even a polite statement on that subject, in that venue. My apologies again. Tapered (talk) 04:17, 20 November 2018 (UTC)
Hi Tapered, I've reverted your edit, as I don't think I actually removed anything, just restructured so that his entire career is no longer in the lede, and corrected usage of firstname to surname. --woodensuperman 09:08, 20 November 2018 (UTC)

Why does it matter if they're redlinks? They still should be on here. If you don't want them to be redlinks, then I'll have them created someday. Are you an admin? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.82.252.79 (talk) 15:45, 22 November 2018 (UTC)

Navboxes are for navigating between articles. Redlinks are not articles and they do not aid navigation. Per WP:NAVBOX: "Navigation templates are a grouping of links used in multiple related articles to facilitate navigation between those articles in Wikipedia.". See also WP:EXISTING. But by all means, WP:WTAF. --woodensuperman 15:48, 22 November 2018 (UTC)
If the article is very likely to be written some red links are allowed on templates, per guideline. If an article hasn't been written in an adequate amount of time (months? years?) then it could be deleted. And yes, as woodensuperman says, please consider writing the articles associated with the red links you favor. Randy Kryn (talk) 16:43, 22 November 2018 (UTC)

Ariana Grande song title stylizations

Please stop removing them. We go by how a song title is stylized on iTunes, YouTube, Spotify, and other music services as a source for these and the ones you're removing can be verified on all of them. "No" and "Back to You" for example are oddly stylized on their single artworks but we don't use them because the song titles aren't styled that way on music services.--NØ 18:32, 28 November 2018 (UTC)

This is absolute nonsense. It has long been common practice on albums and singles to drop a cap on the title. It is such a common thing to happen, we don't need to bring attention to such a minor point in the lede. We don't do that with With the Beatles or "Beetlebum", we don't need to do that here. --woodensuperman 09:26, 29 November 2018 (UTC)
Its not "absolute nonsense". WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS is no reason to remove stylizations from here when thats how these song titles appear on every platform a consumer might go to consume them (i.e iTunes, Spotify, anything.. you name it). You're completely unjustified in removing these stylizations just because you don't like them even though they obviously exist and can be verified by a simple visit to the aforementioned music services. Do not continue removing them unless you get people to agree with you on the respective article talk pages.--NØ 10:13, 29 November 2018 (UTC)
Your claim that "we go by how a song title is stylized on iTunes, YouTube, Spotify" is nonsense. Look at the artwork and all the other sources. But, even if the artwork is in lowercase, it is such a minor point, we do not need to bring attention to it in the lede. --woodensuperman 10:18, 29 November 2018 (UTC)
I'm with on this one. I think what doesn't make sense is "we don't need to bring attention to such a minor point in the lede", and the fact that the artwork is stylized differently (upper cased) isn't a valid argument since a lot of singles and albums' artwork do not feature the name of the song/album. Plus, both "With the Beatles" and "Beetlebum" are styled in upper case as in here and here. This is based on the name of the song, as displayed on the platforms it is available, not based on the artwork. — Artmanha (talk) 23:36, 2 December 2018 (UTC)

List of The Voice coaches moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, List of The Voice coaches, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. NPR Newsletter No.16 15 December 2018

Hello Woodensuperman,

Reviewer of the Year

This year's award for the Reviewer of the Year goes to Onel5969. Around on Wikipedia since 2011, their staggering number of 26,554 reviews over the past twelve months makes them, together with an additional total of 275,285 edits, one of Wikipedia's most prolific users.

Thanks are also extended for their work to JTtheOG (15,059 reviews), Boleyn (12,760 reviews), Cwmhiraeth (9,001 reviews), Semmendinger (8,440 reviews), PRehse (8,092 reviews), Arthistorian1977 (5,306 reviews), Abishe (4,153 reviews), Barkeep49 (4,016 reviews), and Elmidae (3,615 reviews).
Cwmhiraeth, Semmendinger, Barkeep49, and Elmidae have been New Page Reviewers for less than a year — Barkeep49 for only seven months, while Boleyn, with an edit count of 250,000 since she joined Wikipedia in 2008, has been a bastion of New Page Patrol for many years.

See also the list of top 100 reviewers.

Less good news, and an appeal for some help

The backlog is now approaching 5,000, and still rising. There are around 640 holders of the NPR flag, most of whom appear to be inactive. The 10% of the reviewers who do 90% of the work could do with some support especially as some of them are now taking a well deserved break.

Really good news - NPR wins the Community Wishlist Survey 2019

At #1 position, the Community Wishlist poll closed on 3 December with a resounding success for NPP, reminding the WMF and the volunteer communities just how critical NPP is to maintaining a clean encyclopedia and the need for improved tools to do it. A big 'thank you' to everyone who supported the NPP proposals. See the results.

Training video

Due to a number of changes having been made to the feed since this three-minute video was created, we have been asked by the WMF for feedback on the video with a view to getting it brought up to date to reflect the new features of the system. Please leave your comments here, particularly mentioning how helpful you find it for new reviewers.

Couple of moves

Hey,

I just thought I'd pop by and give you a heads up on the move requests I've just closed (1, 2). As RFC is centralised and more users are likely to give their input, and also so nobody gets accused of shopping forums, I've procedurally closed the two move discussions currently in the backlog which you started. As I've noted, regardless of the RFC result, this is with no prejudice to speedy renomination on the conclusion of the RFC.

Many thanks,

What could be done to allow this page to remain on Wikipedia? Having a page where people can see the full list of titles and links to their pages, their release dates, country released in, etc. is valuable to people. Is there something that can be changed to allow this page to continue to exist?— Preceding unsigned comment added by Mercennarius (talkcontribs) 15:42, 19 December 2018 (UTC)

Merry Merry

  Happy Christmas!
Hello W,
Early in A Child's Christmas in Wales the young Dylan and his friend Jim Prothero witness smoke pouring from Jim's home. After the conflagration has been extinguished Dylan writes that

Nobody could have had a noisier Christmas Eve. And when the firemen turned off the hose and were standing in the wet, smoky room, Jim's Aunt, Miss. Prothero, came downstairs and peered in at them. Jim and I waited, very quietly, to hear what she would say to them. She said the right thing, always. She looked at the three tall firemen in their shining helmets, standing among the smoke and cinders and dissolving snowballs, and she said, "Would you like anything to read?"

My thanks to you for your efforts to keep the 'pedia readable in case the firemen chose one of our articles :-) Best wishes to you and yours and happy editing in 2019. MarnetteD|Talk 19:52, 19 December 2018 (UTC)

Deletion of the page: Steven (Alice Cooper character)

Hi, Woodensuperman! I understand that you have been planning on deleting the page for Steven, who is a character created by Alice Cooper and the main character of his album Welcome to My Nightmare. Well, I think Steven is a character decent enough to have his own page, so I would like you to reconsider deleting it. Thank you and have a good day.71.113.133.25 (talk) 18:27, 22 December 2018 (UTC)

Hello Woodensuperman,

As I have noticed in the past that you were very involved with the editing of navboxes and templates, I thought I'd bring to your attention some recent edits that have been made on prominent navboxes/templates. Templates such as Template:Apple, Template:Microsoft, and Template:BuzzFeed have been edited to remove the titles of said templates and replace them with the logos of those companies. The primary editor making these changes is Yousou. I'm not sure if that is against WP or the MOS but it didn't seem right by me. I thought I'd pass along the information to you in order get more clarity on the matter. Hope to hear from you soon, BoogerD (talk) 08:23, 24 December 2018 (UTC)

Thanks. This is definitely not appropriate. --woodensuperman 08:45, 24 December 2018 (UTC)

Hello,

I recently saw that you have reverted the addition of links to portals, commons categories and books on several templates. I am wondering why you reverted these edits, as portals, common categories and books are very commonly seen in the bottom section of navigation portals when they directly relate to the topic the nav box relates too. Could you explain your reasoning?

Thanks and happy editing, Dreamy Jazz 🎷 talk to me | my contributions 13:52, 15 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi Dreamy Jazz. Commons links are external links and are not permitted in navboxes. See Wikipedia talk:Categories, lists, and navigation templates/Archive 9. It seems certain editors recently blanketly added a load to navboxes, which I have reverted. I may have removed other links if they were added at the same time, as I was just undoing the edits. --woodensuperman 13:56, 15 January 2019 (UTC)

category

Just a quick contact about removing the category here. Its understandable, since only two of the films aired on POV. One trick, not sure if you use it, is to categorize the film title redirect like this. -- Netoholic @ 20:11, 7 February 2019 (UTC)

It's a non-defining category, as the programme was not produced for that series. --woodensuperman 08:56, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
It aired as part of that series - its a series made up of mostly independent documentaries. Doesn't matter if it was "produced for that series". -- Netoholic @ 09:38, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
Yes, per WP:NONDEFINING. It would need to be produced specifically for the series to be a defining category. If a TV series airs on a foreign network, it is not defined by the foreign network. Same thing applies here. --woodensuperman 09:39, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
An article for any series would be absolutely fine being categorized under whatever network in any country that airs it as part of their regular schedule. -- Netoholic @ 10:08, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
No it wouldn't. It isn't defining that 2 Broke Girls airs on E4 in the UK. --woodensuperman 10:10, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
See this discussion where a category was purged of all non-native programming. --woodensuperman 10:14, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
I removed the POV category from the two pages precisely because the programmes were not made for that series, but were merely buy-ins. If we categorised every documentary by whichever series they were shown as part of in the various secondary markets, they would overwhelm their respective pages. Nick Cooper (talk) 14:13, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
@Nick Cooper: You may want to comment at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2019 February 8#Category:POV (TV series) films --woodensuperman 14:15, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
OK thanks. I'll add some comments over there. Nick Cooper (talk) 14:27, 8 February 2019 (UTC)

Removing templates from Ariana Grande's "Thank U Next" article

I see that you reverted the edits that I made that had that particular article in templates for Mean Girls, Legally Blonde, and Bring It On respectively. You said that it "isn't sufficient enough" for navbox inclusion but you don't go into detail why. How exactly aren't they in your words "sufficient". A big piece of that particular videos identity so to speak is the fact that it heavily referenced those past movies. By that logic, you should exclude Iggy Azaela's "Fancy" from the template on the movie Clueless since it's only a video/parody/homage and not an "officially" authorized part of the canon. BornonJune8 (talk) 12:37, 15 February 2019 (UTC)

Templates tagged for deletion

You tagged these three for speedy deletion a few days ago. I see them every time I cruise through the speedy deletion categories and, like other admins, I don't delete them because they're still in use. If they're really not needed, the situation is clearer to us if they're first removed from articles, then tagged for deletion. – Athaenara 12:59, 17 February 2019 (UTC)

I disagree with this approach. There is no requirement at WP:CSD#T3 for templates to be out of use. Then there's the visibility issue - if no-one can see them, then no-one can see the tags and object. They should be left for seven days, then removed and deleted once there's no objection. That being said, as they have now been there a few days, I'll remove them from the articles. --woodensuperman 14:51, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
I said only that the situation is clearer to us, if. That's not "an approach" really but in any case they're gone now. – Athaenara 17:31, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

Reverting my edits on the NBA on TNT, NFL on ABC, and Wide World of Sports templates

Why did you feel the need to remove Edd Kalehoff's name from those templates? He was a key part of the production (just like the announcers) being that he composed the music at one point or another. BornonJune8 (talk) 07:59, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

See WP:PERFNAV. Production staff do not belong in navboxes. --woodensuperman 08:59, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

The Dan Aykroyd category

I see that you removed that category from the Coneheads article, even though Aykroyd created the skit in the very first place. Therefore, it technically (just like Ray Stanz and The Blues Brothers) falls under the category of "Works of Dan Aykroyd".

Biography Category nominations

I appreciate your nominations of all the overly small eponymous biography categories at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2019 February 28. The Advocates

Hi, I'm not entirely happy with your move of The Advocates (2013) to The Advocates (TV pilot). The reason is that there is a third TV series, a famous PBS debating programme from the 1970s, also called The Advocates. I thought about writing an article about it. Do you have a suggestion for a lemma? Best, --Tolanor (talk) 10:25, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

The Advocates (2013) doesn't meet our guideline WP:NCTV. Perhaps additional disambiguation is needed, perhaps not, but it couldn't stay where it was. --woodensuperman 08:54, 4 March 2019 (UTC)

p.s. whoops, my mention of the Treaty of Paris in an edit summary of your other deleted item on another of my templates is wrong, it was the Jay Treaty of 1795 which is mentioned on the arbitration page, see 'International' history (and I see what you may have meant, and added John Jay with descriptor, thanks). It's not to do with whether they're featured in the telecasts, it's that they are not specific to the subject. Songs get used in soundtracks all the time, it's WP:UNDUE to focus on their connection to a specific one. --woodensuperman 08:57, 14 March 2019 (UTC)

I commented on your TfD at Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2019_March_12#Template:WWE_personnel suggesting several others be deleted as well. Discussions of interest
  • Two elements of CSD G6 have been split into their own criteria: R4 for redirects in the "File:" namespace with the same name as a file or redirect at Wikimedia Commons (Discussion), and G14 for disambiguation pages which disambiguate zero pages, or have "(disambiguation)" in the title but disambiguate a single page (Discussion).
  • {{db-blankdraft}} was merged into G13 (Discussion)
  • A discussion recently closed with no consensus on whether to create a subject-specific notability guideline for theatrical plays.
  • There is an ongoing discussion on a proposal to create subject-specific notability guidelines for chemicals and organism taxa.
Reminders
  • NPR is not a binary keep / delete process. In many cases a redirect may be appropriate. The deletion policy and its associated guideline clearly emphasise that not all unsuitable articles must be deleted. Redirects are not contentious. See a classic example of the templates to use. More templates are listed at the R template index. Reviewers who are not aware, do please take this into consideration before PROD, CSD, and especially AfD because not even all admins are aware of such policies, and many NAC do not have a full knowledge of them.
NPP Tools Report
  • Superlinks – allows you to check an article's history, logs, talk page, NPP flowchart (on unpatrolled pages) and more without navigating away from the article itself.
  • copyvio-check – automatically checks the copyvio percentage of new pages in the background and displays this info with a link to the report in the 'info' panel of the Page curation toolbar.
  • The NPP flowchart now has clickable hyperlinks.

Notice of Edit warring noticeboard discussion

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion involving you at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring regarding a possible violation of Wikipedia's policy on edit warring. The thread is Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring#User:Woodensuperman reported by User:Nowak Kowalski (Result: ). Thank you. Nowak Kowalski (talk) 17:49, 19 March 2019 (UTC)

Hello Woodensuperman. There appears to be a long-term edit war in which you constantly remove James Marsh (artist) from the template. Please respond at the noticeboard and propose some way to reach agreement on this. Thank you, EdJohnston (talk) 14:34, 20 March 2019 (UTC)

April 2019

You removed the category at Template:The Microphones. --Jax 0677 (talk) 17:17, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

Works by musician scheme

Are you suggesting even someone like Beverly Mitchell should have a Category:Works by Beverly Mitchell even though she only has an article for just one album in Category:Beverley Mitchell albums, just to fit the "works by" scheme? If so, that discussion should be taken to the appropriate WikiProjects, such as WP:WikiProject Music, WP:Albums, WP:Songs, WP:Musicians, because it would be a major change to how things have been done to date. Thanks. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 19:13, 16 May 2019 (UTC)

No, not for a single category, but if Category:Beverly Mitchell songs, or something similar existed then it would be appropriate to create a Category:Works by Beverly Mitchell category for two or more categories. --woodensuperman 07:54, 17 May 2019 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.18

Hello Woodensuperman,

WMF at work on NPP Improvements

Niharika Kohli, a product manager for the growth team, announced that work is underway in implementing improvements to New Page Patrol as part of the 2019 Community Wishlist and suggests all who are interested watch the project page on meta. Two requested improvements have already been completed. These are:

  • Allow filtering by no citations in page curation
  • Not having CSD and PRODs automatically marked as reviewed, reflecting current consensus among reviewers and current Twinkle functionality.
Reliable Sources for NPP

Rosguill has been compiling a list of reliable sources across countries and industries that can be used by new page patrollers to help judge whether an article topic is notable or not. At this point further discussion is needed about if and how this list should be used. Please consider joining the discussion about how this potentially valuable resource should be developed and used.

Backlog drive coming soon

Look for information on the an upcoming backlog drive in our next newsletter. If you'd like to help plan this drive, join in the discussion on the New Page Patrol talk page.

Template:Asylum films

is there a precedent for templates like this? seems like it could explode to unreasonable size if we had one of these for every production company. Frietjes (talk) 13:27, 24 May 2019 (UTC)

@Frietjes: How about Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2018_October_19#Template:Hammer_Film_Productions_films. Or I guess it's a similar reasoning to a record label one? --woodensuperman 11:17, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
possibly similar to the record label ones. I suppose one could send it to TfD and see what happens, or ask at WT:FILM. Frietjes (talk) 11:53, 30 May 2019 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:List of The Voice coaches

Hello, Woodensuperman. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "List of The Voice coaches".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Snowycats (talk) 17:38, 2 June 2019 (UTC)

About your undo of my Clash edits

I know that you have more fake power here than I do, but I'd like to say that your reversal of my Clash template edits was unfounded by the standards of other band templates here on Wikipedia. Every person listed on the template was directly involved in the history of the band in some well known capacity, so to say that they "generally work with a lot of people" is bogus, especially if you're truly knowledgeable about the band enough to actually contribute to their template, which I suspect you are not based on the history of your edits.

Using the templates of other historical musical acts as a guide, you'll find that the best of them list "Related People" from managers, producers, and anyone else known to associate and or help the band in some way during their period of activity. This kind of pointless editing on your part is contributing to the decline of this website, and leaving relevant history disconnected. If they all have Wikipedia pages of their own, and they were crucially involved in the band (like, you know, their MANAGER or VIDEOGRAPHER)--why delete them? Someone like Bernie Rhodes isn't well known for anything other than his history with The Clash...

I will not re-add them as I know you'll just delete them over and over, but I now suggest that you remove every associated person from every other band template here on Wikipedia, since its apparently irrelevant to your standards. What a sham. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheOnlyBandThatMatters (talkcontribs) 05:38, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

Managers and producers are not in the "best" navboxes. Neither are session musicians, or people who photographed a band, etc, etc. These people are not specific to the subject, they work with many artists, therefore there inclusion here is WP:UNDUE. Your logic is completely flawed. How is it appropriate to add "anyone else known to associate and or help the band in some way during their period of activity"? They are clearly not specific to the topic, which is what makes a good navbox. Take some examples - Lee "Scratch" Perry, Ray Lowry, etc, etc. Completely inappropriate. Look at the wide and varied career of Guy Stevens. Can you not see how it is WP:UNDUE to concentrate on his connection with a single band? And if I do come across inappropriate entries like these in navboxes, I usually do remove them. --woodensuperman 08:29, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
As far as people associated with bands go, also note that navboxes consisting solely of people who "associate and or help the band in some way" have been deleted. See here and here. --woodensuperman 14:18, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

New Page Review newsletter July-August 2019

Hello Woodensuperman,

WMF at work on NPP Improvements

More new features are being added to the feed, including the important red alert for previously deleted pages. This will only work if it is selected in your filters. Best is to 'select all'. Do take a moment to check out all the new features if you have not already done so. If anything is not working as it should, please let us know at NPR. There is now also a live queue of AfC submissions in the New Pages Feed. Feel free to review AfCs, but bear in mind that NPP is an official process and policy and is more important.

QUALITY of REVIEWING

Articles are still not always being checked thoroughly enough. If you are not sure what to do, leave the article for a more experienced reviewer. Please be on the alert for any incongruities in patrolling and help your colleagues where possible; report patrollers and autopatrolled article creators who are ostensibly undeclared paid editors. The displayed ORES alerts offer a greater 'at-a-glance' overview, but the new challenges in detecting unwanted new content and sub-standard reviewing do not necessarily make patrolling any easier, nevertheless the work may have a renewed interest factor of a different kind. A vibrant community of reviewers is always ready to help at NPR.

Backlog

The backlog is still far too high at between 7,000 and 8,000. Of around 700 user rights holders, 80% of the reviewing is being done by just TWO users. In the light of more and more subtle advertising and undeclared paid editing, New Page Reviewing is becoming more critical than ever.

Move to draft

NPR is triage, it is not a clean up clinic. This move feature is not limited to bios so you may have to slightly re-edit the text in the template before you save the move. Anything that is not fit for mainspace but which might have some promise can be draftified - particularly very poor English and machine and other low quality translations.

Notifying users

Remember to use the message feature if you are just tagging an article for maintenance rather than deletion. Otherwise articles are likely to remain perma-tagged. Many creators are SPA and have no intention of returning to Wikipedia. Use the feature too for leaving a friendly note note for the author of a first article you found well made or interesting. Many have told us they find such comments particularly welcoming and encouraging.

PERM

Admins are now taking advantage of the new time-limited user rights feature. If you have recently been accorded NPR, do check your user rights to see if this affects you. Depending on your user account preferences, you may receive automated notifications of your rights changes. Requests for permissions are not mini-RfAs. Helpful comments are welcome if absolutely necessary, but the bot does a lot of the work and the final decision is reserved for admins who do thorough research anyway.

Other news

School and academic holidays will begin soon in various places around the Western world. Be on the lookout for the usual increase in hoax, attack, and other junk pages.

Our next newsletter might be announcing details of a possible election for co-ordinators of NPR. If you think you have what it takes to micro manage NPR, take a look at New Page Review Coordinators - it's a job that requires a lot of time and dedication.

Category deletion

May I ask that you refrain from moving and deleting categories unilaterally such as done with Category:Chris de Burgh? Please follow the procedures of WP:CfD. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 20:19, 3 July 2019 (UTC)

CSD C1

Hello, Woodensuperman,

You marked Category:Shekhinah (singer) and Category:Amal Hijazi with CSD C1 tags as an empty categories that are eligible for deletion. However, they are category redirects and so are not eligible. So, I've removed the tagging. If you look at the tags, they state which categories are exempt for speedy deletion. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 04:08, 9 July 2019 (UTC)

Move warring

For move warring at Good Omens (TV series), I have revoked your page mover right. Further move warring will result in a block. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 17:54, 10 July 2019 (UTC)

NinjaRobotPirate, I'm sorry, but reverting an undiscussed and disruptive move against previous consensus does not meet the criteria defined at WP:PMRR. Reverting an undiscussed move and suggesting the other editor takes it to WP:RM is not controversial. Page is now protected at the original title (that I preserved) and the other user has now started a move discussion. Please reconsider. --woodensuperman 07:56, 11 July 2019 (UTC)
Except you reverted twice against no previous consensus. You followed my contributions to the page protection request. I'm accepting that the right has been revoked, and will re-request it after the page move has concluded. I suggest you do the same. -- /Alex/21 09:11, 11 July 2019 (UTC)
There was previous consensus at Talk:Good_Omens_(TV_series)#Miniseries_or_TV_series? from April last year. You made a bold move, I reverted it. You moved it again and then tried to get it protected at your preferred title. I moved it back and it was protected at the stable title. --woodensuperman 09:16, 11 July 2019 (UTC)
Five posts and four editors is not a consensus. My move wasn't bold, it was sourced within the article itself. You reverted twice. I tried to protect it to prevent further warring, which you then contributed to. I recommend that you wait for the RM to conclude, and not watch other editor's contributions. -- /Alex/21 09:20, 11 July 2019 (UTC)
Sourced by your WP:REFBOMB trying to prove a point, and disputed. --woodensuperman 09:21, 11 July 2019 (UTC)
