Little context in Balikun (horse)
editHello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Balikun (horse), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Balikun (horse) is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Balikun (horse), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 18:41, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
Userboxes
editUserboxes are not easy to explain, but Wikipedia:Userboxes is the place to start.
After about three hours trying to figure them out, I now have forgotten how I did it, and when I see a cool one now, I just use copy and paste in the edit box (being VERY careful not to mess with someone else's user page!) to swipe the formatting code from other people's pages. Looking for a project?
editIf you want to do another horse breed article, I ran across one that was new to me, the Carolina Marsh Tacky. Interesting rare breed. http://www.thehorse.com/viewarticle.aspx?ID=9641
There's also a web site for the rare breed survival trust that may be a good source for some interesting articles, once we make sure that there aren't already articles out there... Montanabw 18:58, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, and if you want to stay out of image copyright problems, safest to use the GDFL license or else public domain. The wikigods are incredibly anal about this. Montanabw 18:59, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
Breed articles
editHey Horsecanter and Yemenah, I am not really trying to make your lives miserable by various tags, I just am trying to encourage the creation of breed articles that are REAL articles. There are a lot of new "breeds" out there that are mostly someone's marketing ploy, and a lot of "breeds" that are types, not breeds (like Sport Horse). Anyway the point is that an article needs at least one good full citation and should follow at least a sketch of an outline as found in the Horse Breeds Wikiproject. Stubs are OK, sometimes with rare breeds, we can't find much, but try to say SOMETHING unique about the breed, like where it comes from, what its unique characteristics are, etc...don't just create a sentence to remove a red link. Something like a breed is a "medium-sized riding horse" is not an article. Tell us why we should care, at least a little. Thanks. Montanabw 21:24, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
(So what determines whether a breed is a true breed or just a crossbreed? Practically every breed except the Arabian is a crossbreed, and where is the line drawn? I read that the Aegidienberger may not actually be a true breed but a crossbreed, but where is the line drawn? --Yamenah 14:28, 19 June 2007 (UTC))
- Basically, if we can't find anything more than horse breed X is crossed on horse breed Y and the registry for the "breed" formed within the last 10 years at web site www.makememoney.com (grin), please send your application with $100 and two cereal box tops, we should at least say so in the article and list the question of whether this is a "crossbred" or a "breed" as a controversy. (Sort of like the "is it a horse or a pony? Question. Just state the official position and then discuss the controversy and other views on the matter). I personally like the definition of breed used in the wikipedia article, in that a breed is a population that passes on characteristics to its get, i.e. breeds "true," but that is also pretty nebulous and hard to define. I guess my take on the matter is that we are doing OK if we use authoritative sources like Oklahoma State and the International Museum of the Horse. If they want to call it a breed, and have articles with useful information that we can utilize, then at least we have verifiability from a neutral source and not just commercial linkspam. For example, Palomino is NOT and cannot be more than a color breed because it is genetically impossible for Palominos to always throw Palominos. OTOH, Friesians can be a breed and be of only one color as a genetic characteristic, it isn't genetically impossible. Anyway, my take is that if IMH and OSU both say it's a breed, we are passing Wikipedia's verifiability guidelines, which is what really matters here. Beyond that, don't cut and paste (copyright violation) but do say more than a sentence. Otherwise, leave the red link for someone else who has time to do the job. You're not the worst offender here, FYI... Montanabw 17:50, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

back drawing
editHey, the skeleton superimposed over the horse photo was a very cool idea, but when I enlarged it, I noticed some errors, namely that you left out the sacrum, the vertebrae that make up the croup, instead you went right from the lumbar to the coccygeal vertebrae, puting about half the sacrum in one set and half in the other... The lumbar stop at the pelvis, and the Coccyx starts at the dock of the tail. May want to fix that before someone deletes the image. Montanabw 06:47, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
Skeletons
editHere's one, labeled diagram is toward the bottom of the page, though it doesn't mark the beginning and end of each section: http://www.cyberhorse.net.au/cgi-bin/tve/displaynewsitem.pl?20040208skeletalbasics.txt
Here's one of people and dogs: http://137.222.110.150/calnet/musculo/page8.htm Note the proportions on the dog are way different...far shorter lumbar region, longer tail. But translating to a hrose, figure the Lumbar are the 5-6 verebrae after the last rib (each thoracic vertebrae has a rib hanging off of it), and stop at the ilium, where the sacrum begins. The sacrum is fused, so the coggygeal vertebrae start where you see the fairly obvious flexible joint and fairly dramatic change in size of the vertebrae.
You could also ask User:Eventer is she can scan something. She's the anatomy guru. Montanabw 16:30, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
Looks even cooler, I like the addition of muscles and such (!) but the coccygeal vertebrae look a wee bit too far forward because the line hits at the last sacral vertebrae, I'd tweak that a wee bit, seeing as how you got to it so fast (grin). Also, the Thoracic vertebrae begin at the end of the cervical vertebrae, so maybe nudge that starting line up a bit, I know it will look a little weird with the scapula in the way, don't know the solution there, but kick it around and see what works. You do have a knack for this...Montanabw 16:56, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
- Say! We noticed (finally) that the entire image Image:Horseanatomy.png has multiple mislabelings, not just the spinal column (says the horse has a collarbone, and it doesn't.) Any way you can "deconstruct" that image to take off ALL the labels and then re-upload it so myself or User:Eventer can relabel it properly? Let me know, and thanks in advance. (FYI, check out horse anatomy and the related new articles, Eventer has been busy!) Montanabw(talk) 03:56, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your help. Will tell Eventer. Montanabw(talk) 19:54, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- I have actually now fixed the diagram myself. Unfortunately with a diagram this size (the master file is layered and 7000 x 6000 pixels and is 250mb in size) just opening it is no small affair so it takes me a fair amount of time to do it. I would not recommend clipping out the old labels as you'd be editing the rasterised small version thats uploaded here to wikipedia. Generally in graphic design theres a rule of thumb that everything is drawn 3 times the final size and then resized down to give it detail and sharpness. If you notice any more problems with the diagram or have a label you'd like me to add if you let me know I should be able to make changes to it much quicker now that I have the image master file to hand and up to date with the version here. Thanks WikipedianProlific(Talk) 10:13, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
- I checked the relabeled image. It's much better, and the additional, fairly minor glitches are discussed on the creator's talk page. Still, while I'm glad it's fixed, I'm glad Yemenah was willing to start the "fixing" process. I would have been doing labels in Word or something, so the "fixed" image would not have been of as high resolution, but accuracy does count! Montanabw(talk) 20:31, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
American Spotted Paso
editA Proposed Deletion template has been added to the article American Spotted Paso, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of the page. Image permission problem with Image:Spotted saddle horse.gif
editThanks for uploading Image:Spotted saddle horse.gif. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Greetings, horse breeds
editHi. I have been revising some horse-related templates, and I noticed that the horse breed articles could do with better categorizing; see Template talk:Equine#Continuing. If you would like to help, please jump in. I think you have a better idea than I would re how to group them. I prefer categories to a list, by the way, because a breed can be listed in any and all relevant categories: eg, both a pony breeds category and a horse breeds category. --Una Smith (talk) 23:44, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
File copyright problem with File:Delilah_3.jpg
editThank you for uploading File:Delilah_3.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. – Quadell (talk) 15:05, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
