Following up

Prakash pandey07 is up-to no good and me thinks that it's time to follow up with an indefinite block, pursuant to your last warning. WBGconverse 07:32, 9 December 2019 (UTC)

Wow. Yeah, those edits were totally inappropriate. The account is now blocked. --Yamla (talk) 11:11, 9 December 2019 (UTC)
Yamla, thanks for blocking prakash pandey and sumesh dumar. IMHO, first one is an employee and regular contributor of the website. Please check his talk page where I gave details. Regards,— Harshil want to talk? 12:33, 9 December 2019 (UTC)
See this.— Harshil want to talk? 17:12, 9 December 2019 (UTC)
Yeap. That's okay. They aren't permitted to remove declined unblock requests for currently active blocks, but are essentially free to remove any other content. It's pretty unlikely they'll be unblocked without fully addressing the various concerns with their account, even with those concerns removed from the page. --Yamla (talk) 17:24, 9 December 2019 (UTC)

User:Apkril is also showing same behaviour at The Quint. Maybe all these are connected. — Harshil want to talk? 05:35, 10 December 2019 (UTC)

That user hasn't edited since November. I don't have checkuser access, so can't determine if they are related. There's certainly something nefarious going on over on that article, though. --Yamla (talk) 12:13, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
Similar thing is going on OpIndia. Harshil want to talk? 13:23, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
Yeap, it most certainly is. I suggest WP:AIV or similar noticeboard for that, though, as I don't follow that page. :( --Yamla (talk) 13:25, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
Yamla, I again filed report against one COI editor at noticeboard. Can you please check it? Thanks, Harshil want to talk? 13:42, 10 December 2019 (UTC)

A troll IP

This IP 173.197.8.247 is no more than a troll [1]. He/She should be blocked again. Literally all his/her edits are trolling. Dimitris N.anagnostou (talk) 14:04, 10 December 2019 (UTC)

Weird stuff

Hello Yamla. I noticed that certain pages on my watchlist are marked as "seen", despite I did not visit them and it's not the first time. Is it because a technical problem or...? Puduḫepa 08:45, 12 December 2019 (UTC)

I have no idea. I have no reason to believe so. Please change your password and see if that resolves the problem. --Yamla (talk) 11:08, 12 December 2019 (UTC)
Have changed the password. By the way, some of the pages I did visit are marked as "unseen" now and this is also not the first time. That's why I thought that it might be a technical problem. Puduḫepa 13:13, 12 December 2019 (UTC)

Vandalism

Hey I am not really sure where exactly to report this sort of stuff so I'm just gonna put it here but you may want to look over this for possible oversight. Adamtt9 (talk) 14:31, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

WP:OVERSIGHT or possibly, WP:AIV. I've deleted (not oversighted, just deleted) that particular edit and blocked the vandal. Thanks! --Yamla (talk) 14:34, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

Apologies

I sent an AN notice to the other editors I mentioned, but didn't include you. You have found the discussion anyway, but I just wanted to let you know that it was an oversight, not some deliberate omission. Fram (talk) 14:38, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

I wasn't worried at all. :) Thanks, Fram. --Yamla (talk) 14:40, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – January 2020

News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2019).

  Arbitration

  • The fourth case on Palestine-Israel articles was closed. The case consolidated all previous remedies under one heading, which should make them easier to understand, apply, and enforce. In particular, the distinction between "primary articles" and "related content" has been clarified, with the former being the entire set of articles whose topic relates to the Arab-Israeli conflict, broadly interpreted rather than reasonably construed.
  • Following the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been appointed to the Arbitration Committee: Beeblebrox, Bradv, Casliber, David Fuchs, DGG, KrakatoaKatie, Maxim, Newyorkbrad, SoWhy, Worm That Turned, Xeno.

UTRS appeal

Hi,

As you are the blocking administrator, could you please offer your thoughts on this appeal? -- 5 albert square (talk) 01:31, 5 January 2020 (UTC)

Toddstarnes3

You recently rejected an unblock request at User Talk:Toddstarnes3#January 2020. When doing so, you deleted that user's disclosure of what they said was their email addy. They also disclosed an email addy at User Talk:Toddstarnes3#Conflict of interest guidelines. IDK if that too should be deleted or WP:REVDELed; over to you, in case any action be needed. Yrs, Narky Blert (talk) 01:03, 5 January 2020 (UTC)

It's not necessary, but it's generally not a good idea to post email publicly. So, yeah, I removed it. Thanks! --Yamla (talk) 12:21, 5 January 2020 (UTC)

User:Samurai Kung fu Cowboy

Hi, you placed User:Samurai Kung fu Cowboy on WP:0RR a few days ago and he has already defied it. The same day he re-started editing after his block expired, he was immediately back to reverting properly sourced material [2] and taking ownership of the same article again. Can you kindly intervene? SolarFlashLet's talk about it 19:11, 6 January 2020 (UTC)

Yeap. I'll go block. --Yamla (talk) 19:24, 6 January 2020 (UTC)
I have a strong suspicion he's already evading the block. [3]. Anonymous editor showed up immediately, taking ownership of same article, edit warring, and making the same edits. SolarFlashLet's talk about it 20:44, 6 January 2020 (UTC)
I've protected the article against anonymous edits and requested clarification from the anonymous editor. --Yamla (talk) 20:53, 6 January 2020 (UTC)

Please block my user

Hi Yamla! Can you please block my user account forever? I'm not interested in editing the Wikipedia further times. Thanks very much. Corrun Falt (talk) 09:23, 7 January 2020 (UTC)

User:Aledownload

You blocked this user last year for persistent addition of unsourced content and they just couldn't grasp how to source it. Frankly you blocked them before I could. The point of me coming to you is, I very very strongly believe they're back. User:Dr. Andrey Smyslov has been editing the same articles as User:Aledownload. They made a "joke" that they're back. Normally geek articles, yes could be different users, but the crossover are obscure episodes of UFO, episodes of the Cars animated series among others. All of which were edited by Aledownload. I think this is quite a clear quacking sock. Canterbury Tail talk 17:32, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

The overlap is almost complete. Of 48 edits (at this time), 43 have overlapped and 3 have been to user-space. That's a 95.8% overlap. I have never seen such loud quacking. I think it'd be pointless to file an SPI here, but could be convinced otherwise. Assuming not, I suggest you do the block, with a warning that continued block evasion may lead to a ban under WP:3X. --Yamla (talk) 18:35, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
Yeah it's pretty obvious. Okay, I'll do the blocking. Canterbury Tail talk 18:54, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

Rejected article: Hammermen of Glasgow

Hi! My article "Hammermen of Glasgow" was rejected this morning. I believe I may need to sign the paid contribution disclosure. How can I do that, and by doing that, will my article be approved? Thanks! KristenWood4987 (talk) 14:05, 16 January 2020 (UTC)

Please do not edit articles for which you have a conflict of interest. You need to build up a history of non-conflicted edits first. WP:COI has all the details you need. --Yamla (talk) 14:20, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
Yamla For the record, I've already explained this in detail to them via IRC, they don't appear to be willing to disclose. Praxidicae (talk) 14:32, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
KristenWood4987, note that disclosure is mandatory, not optional. As I have already pointed out, you must declare your conflict of interest, as explained in WP:DCOI, prior to editing any article or draft. We aren't interested in having you write about your company or its clients, as explained in WP:COI. Regardless, though, disclosure is mandatory and you must do it immediately. --Yamla (talk) 14:36, 16 January 2020 (UTC)

IP socks of a site-banned editor

Hello Yamla. The ips below are socks of banned King kong92. I wanted to report it here as you are somewhat familiar with this case.

See also this[11]. The same range (203.221...) was there. Puduḫepa 13:14, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

Pinging @Berean Hunter:. Puduḫepa 13:14, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

I agree, it's very likely King kong92. Unfortunately, these are dynamic IP addresses, so blocking the particular addresses probably won't matter. Any thoughts on other approaches? If this continues, the articles themselves could be semi-protected for a while. --Yamla (talk) 14:16, 30 January 2020 (UTC)
Yes, blocking the dynamic ips is not the best solution, as he has been ip hopping for a long time. But the blocks on the ips have symbolic meanings in my opinion (confirmation of their sockpuppetry by an admin) and this would prevent further disruptions from these 2 ips at least. PS: I would not care removing his leftovers from WP pages, but I saw his other (now stale) socks on various WP pages and I noticed that the intermediate edits on the page were mostly from an another sockmaster + the content had additional issues besides being added by the sockmasters, I thought that it would be an appropriate action to make a bold revert. Feel free to revert me if you think that i was wrong. Cheers. Puduḫepa 16:27, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – February 2020

News and updates for administrators from the past month (January 2020).

  Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, partial blocks are now enabled on the English Wikipedia. This functionality allows administrators to block users from editing specific pages or namespaces rather than the entire site. A draft policy is being workshopped at Wikipedia:Partial blocks.
  • The request for comment seeking the community's sentiment for a binding desysop procedure closed with wide-spread support for an alternative desysoping procedure based on community input. No proposed process received consensus.

  Technical news

  • Twinkle now supports partial blocking. There is a small checkbox that toggles the "partial" status for both blocks and templating. There is currently one template: {{uw-pblock}}.
  • When trying to move a page, if the target title already exists then a warning message is shown. The warning message will now include a link to the target title. [13]

  Arbitration

  • Following a recent arbitration case, the Arbitration Committee reminded administrators that checkuser and oversight blocks must not be reversed or modified without prior consultation with the checkuser or oversighter who placed the block, the respective functionary team, or the Arbitration Committee.

Anonymous user is vandalizing "Battle of Saragarhi" page by using personal views. Had to revert back changes but I am pretty sure the anonymous user will strike again. I have told the user to bring his discussion couple of times to Talk page but he just taunts same comments back. He uses different IP address everytime but 120 is the common digit. So not sure if there is a way to block but is it possible to block editing for anonymous users for this page particularly or block editing completely? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks. Report

Hi Yamla,

Just letting you know that I'll be reporting you for review of adminship due to the conflict of interests and the belief of personal attack. You blocked me for spamming when I tried to have a conversation with you about the links I was adding being relevant and adding to the value of the Wikipedia page. I now have reason to believe that you may be in competition with one review site in particular I have added quite a few links to on various Wikipedia pages. This is because I have added various links and made many changes and you have targeted one review site in particular. So if you'd like to discuss further before I send you in for review, you're more than welcome to! I will be sending it off in 48 hours though so before then would be optimal. Thanks! - Mills.Rhys.1996 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)

You are welcome to report me. For the record, I have zero association with all review sites. I mean that broadly. I am not employed by, contracted to, nor associated with any review sites. I have written the occasional review on Amazon and on Google, but the total number of reviews I've written there would be less than 20 and probably less than 10. I am not in competition with the review site you've been linking to. And for the record, I will continue to block you if you continue to link to sites which do not meet the criteria outlined in WP:EL; see WP:SPAM and WP:COI. Finally, note that I'll be away most of Friday, at a funeral. --Yamla (talk) 15:21, 25 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi Yamla,

I’ve been taking a delve into all the links and I think I may see your point as the review site I’ve linked to goes to a deals page, when it should be going over to the reviews page. It appears as though that’s an issue with that site so I do understand what you’re saying here and I will stop linking to them as long as the links don’t go directly to the ‘reviews’ or ‘worth buying’ page as I can see that it seems as though it may be an advertisement. I had only been linking to this page as it is an objective review site that is Ofcom accredited and provides highly relevant information for users (arguably better than similar sites because it also aggregates reviews from other sites - about as unbiased as you can get). Thank you for helping me to understand this issue and I’m sorry for the trouble - I am still fairly new here and getting to learn the ropes. Thanks - Mills.Rhys.1996 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)

You will also want to review WP:RS and WP:NPA. --Yamla (talk) 12:34, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – March 2020

News and updates for administrators from the past month (February 2020).

  Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, the blocking policy was changed to state that sysops must not undo or alter CheckUser or Oversight blocks, rather than should not.
  • A request for comment confirmed that sandboxes of established but inactive editors may not be blanked due solely to inactivity.

  Technical news

  • Following a discussion, Twinkle's default CSD behavior will soon change, most likely this week. After the change, Twinkle will default to "tagging mode" if there is no CSD tag present, and default to "deletion mode" if there is a CSD tag present. You will be able to always default to "deletion mode" (the current behavior) using your Twinkle preferences.

Corrections at Wheely article

Hello! My name is Elena and I work for Wheely, which I've disclosed on my profile and the article's talk page. Wikipedia page being blocked

Hello Yamla,

My Wiki page has just been unblocked. You informed me that all my existing edits about General Investment Co were not complying with Wikipedia's guidelines due to a conflict of interest. I would like to inquire about how to post about General Investment Co. Ltd. as an informational Wiki page. I am an employee of that company and we are trying to inform our consumers about the company's history and range of products. The reason I am confused is because there are many Wiki pages currently that showcase different companies and information about them, so why am I unable to?

Thank you in advance, and looking forward to your feedback! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rana Haddadin (talkcontribs) 13:05, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

No thanks, we aren't interested in having you write about that company. WP:COI has all the details, including specifically noting WP:AFC. Note that you are still obligated to disclose your conflict of interest before editing any further; please do so immediately. --Yamla (talk) 13:25, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

Yeah. I'm finding it very, very hard to unwind this vandalism. If you can figure it out, you are very welcome to take action. I'm about to jump into meetings for the next 4 hours, unfortunately, so won't have a chance to look until after then. If you can't unwind the vandalism yourself, I'll gratefully accept any pointers you have! --Yamla (talk) 16:55, 4 March 2020 (UTC)
If you could revert the deletion I can *try* and look at the logs with my lowly excom permissions, but I'll try and restore the page Thepenguin9 (talk) 16:56, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

Anonymous Dragon Of Red

Re: Anonymous Dragon Of Red (talk · contribs), whose unblock request you declined, note that they also have a separate Commons account (WikicommensRTTIME). The user page and talk page have contents relevant to the block issues, though the "company" appears to just be a kid's attempt at creating a "brand". —[AlanM1(talk)]— 20:28, 6 March 2020 (UTC)

Self-admitted sock of User:Binamra Deb

It's User:BinamraYT. At least he's honest about it. Best, GPL93 (talk) 15:17, 19 March 2020 (UTC)

Respected Wikipedian, I have come here after a long time. I promise to respect and abide by the rules of Wikipedia and be honest. I think you will support me🙂 and give me a chance. Regards, BinamraYR BinamraYT (talk) 15:20, 19 March 2020 (UTC)

Well, as a rule you can only be unblocked through your original account and you are still evading your block even if you believe you have good intentions. Best,GPL93 (talk) 15:23, 19 March 2020 (UTC)

I am not able to request for an unblock from my old account. If I get my original account I would be very glad. I will be thankful if you could help. Regards, BinamraYT BinamraYT (talk) 15:30, 19 March 2020 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

Thank you for your tireless work on articles and making them better. Also, without people like you, Wikipedia wouldn't be nearly as great, so hats off to you :) Weatherman27 (talk) 20:00, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

User:Brzikraken

You blocked the aforementioned user this month. But it seems he is making the same edits logged off. For example:

I think you might be interested in this. 92.9.147.195 (talk) 11:59, 27 March 2020 (UTC)

Yeah, there's a complete overlap in editing there. Blocked. --Yamla (talk) 12:02, 27 March 2020 (UTC)

Brzikraken has returned:

Via a mobile network. 92.9.144.38 (talk) 23:11, 28 March 2020 (UTC)

No point blocking that one, I'm afraid. They'll keep on switching IP addresses quicker than I can block. --Yamla (talk) 10:32, 29 March 2020 (UTC)

It is, but that user hasn't logged in in more than a decade. --Yamla (talk) 09:43, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

And this User:Urmomisfat100010001000 i just want help wikipedia of these vandalizers, inapropiate users,... how do i can help wikipedia. That guy vandalize wikipedia and he have a inapropiate user name. --TheDoge1234 (talk) 09:51, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

We aren't interested in these reports. That particular account was blocked more than six years ago. If a user is currently vandalising, WP:AIV is the right place to go. There's no point searching out users who haven't edited in years, though. --Yamla (talk) 09:53, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

Ok thanks you so much :) --TheDoge1234 (talk) 09:57, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

Return of a dodgy IP

Hi Yamla. You (and other admins) have previously blocked this IP for (global) block evasion and trolling. Now they are back with, among other contributions, this rather peculiar request. I'm not familiar with the back story, but it looks like resumption of an old, unpleasant pattern, which is why I consult you. Favonian (talk) 17:49, 4 April 2020 (UTC)

Youch. I can't even recall who that is, but that's pretty extreme. Blocked. --Yamla (talk) 18:19, 4 April 2020 (UTC)

Hello, Yamla. Please check your email; you've got mail!
It may take a few minutes from the time the email is sent for it to show up in your inbox. You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{You've got mail}} or {{ygm}} template. TheSandDoctor Talk 19:43, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
@TheSandDoctor: No objections to the unblock. If they cause problems after the block's lifted, it's easy enough to reblock. And they've had a few months to wise up. :) --Yamla (talk) 20:27, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
Perfect! I've unblocked. Thanks. --TheSandDoctor Talk 20:30, 4 April 2020 (UTC)

Dispute resolution choices

I read this news

  • Liptak, Kevin (2020-04-03). "How Fauci and Birx got Trump to listen to science". CNN. Retrieved 2020-04-04.

Dr. Fauci and President Trump seemed to exchange their real views with each other through media.

But I personally wonder if Dr. Fauci and President Trump with his fellow team in charge of the economy could have directly talked with each other about their real concern in mind without being evasive in front of each other, they would have forged a more unified strategy in response to the pandemic, which is meant to save more lives. I acknowledge that this process featuring straightforward could be hurtful to both sides but the result to the public might be better? However, do you think such potentially hurtful process meet the standards set by Wikipedia:Civility? I am not sure because such a straightforward process might involve comments that are subjectively thought to be rude and disrespectful. For example, dismissing someone's point with evidence using a determined tone might be subjectively thought as rude? Thank you very much. Your answer will be an important reference for me in the future! --Reciprocater (Talk) 09:54, 4 April 2020 (UTC)

I'm sorry, what does this have to do with Wikipedia? Fauci and Trump obviously aren't bound by Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and I'm therefore not sure what this has to do with this encyclopedia. I want to be clear, I wish the U.S. was handling the pandemic better, and I very sincerely wish the country and everyone in it luck and success. I'm just not sure what this has to do with Wikipedia. --Yamla (talk) 10:01, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
Sorry for not being clear. I meant does dismissing someone's point with evidence, using a determined tone might be thought of as rudeness per Wikipedia:Civility? Thanks. --Reciprocater (Talk) 11:42, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
Can you please specify exactly what this has to do with Wikipedia? --Yamla (talk) 12:03, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
Oh!I wasn't referring to real-life scenarios. I was just motivated by the news to ask how to determine if a comment on Wikipedia is rudeness and disrespectful as WP:UNCIVIL says Incivility consists of personal attacks, rudeness, and disrespectful comments.? I think my words at User:Reciprocater/sandbox#User_talk:Jimbo_Wales#Continued_the_thread_above:_Paid-version_of_Wikipedia_that_permits_paid-contribution_that_is_meant_to_support_a_more_efficient_and_higher-quality_debate_among_democratic_processes_around_the_world! sounds a bit serious but not rude and disrespectful. And I would like to have some feedback from some friendly Wikipedians to confirm that my feeling was okay. Thank you so much! ^__^ --Reciprocater (Talk) 15:05, 4 April 2020 (UTC)

English grammar

Hello Yamla, it's your statement at User:Yamla#Yamla that really eases my mind and enriches my courage to contact you who seems to be well informed and able to resolve my confusion in mind. I am feeling lucky to have spotted you among the pool of admins!

So would you mind sharing your answer to my question at Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Language#Identifying_object_in_a_sentence? to help me grow my English skill, please? Although my answer was A or both, my expression on your talk page was B. I answered A there mainly to emphasize my confusion.

Just feel free to neglect this entire post if you're busy or it's not convenient for you. :)

Stay safe in this difficult time of virus! (I highly recommend wearing a face mask.)
