One image on top of another
editIs there a way to get one image to overlay another? For example, at the top of Pawnless chess endgames, I'd like to get the red "no" on top of the pawn. Is there an easy way to do that? Bubba73 (talk), 04:20, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- I think some of the image gurus over at Wikipedia:Requested pictures should be able to whip something up easily by modifying Image:Chess pll44.png to draw a "no sign" around it. I don't think this can be done with the existing images as, even if overlaying them was possible, the white portions of the no sign are not transparent. Another words, if you could place it over the pawn symbol, it would just cover it entirely, it wouldn't show through.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 04:49, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- It is transparent. I'm sure he won't mind if I refer you to User:Hersfold, he provided me with some code to do something similar a while ago. George D. Watson (Dendodge).TalkHelp 06:48, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- Yep, I stand corrected. It is transparent, (though it's not overlaying properly with the same code).--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 12:59, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Top and bottom buttons
editI 'stole' the skip to bottom and back to top buttons from this page for use on my user page, but the skip to bottom one only works if you click the word bottom, even though the whole thing is a link. What have I done wrong? And would it be possible to make then retain positions at the top and bottom of the screen as you scroll? George D. Watson (Dendodge).TalkHelp 06:46, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- If nobody immediately recognizes the problem from your description, you could give a link to the diff that shows the exact code you added. Then people who haven't messed with this already could look at it, and maybe see a problem. --Teratornis (talk) 08:03, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- I believe it has something to do with the <div></div> tags being used on the page, if you remove everything on your page except the skip to bottom and back to top buttons, it works perfectly. That said, I don't know exactly what is wrong, nor do I have an answer. Sorry. For anyone wondering, the relevant link is User:Dendodge/header. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk ♦ contribs) 08:22, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- I fixed it. What was wrong was that you had two <div></div> tags that overlapped with each other. I just moved the skip to bottom a little lower so that the two <div></div> tags didnt overlap anymore. Hope this helps! « Gonzo fan2007 (talk ♦ contribs) 08:31, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Malicious Entries on My User Page
editIn the last two days I have had two warnings posted on my user page both of which were inappropriate. One came after I had removed maliciuos gossip from the Jock Stein page.It was warning ME. The other was a completely inapproprite final warning from someone with no user name. What action can I take to prevent these malicious entries to my user page both of which I have deleted due to their inappropriate nature? Both edits came from folks only with an IP addressPaul210 (talk) 09:02, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- There is no way to prevent it, as anyone can apply a warning template. If it's vandalism to your userspace, just remove it. If they persist, report it to WP:AIV. -- Kesh (talk) 09:46, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- Ditto what Kesh said, just use common sense, if someone warns you for an edit, and you know for sure it is not vandalism, then just delete the warning and ignore the editors posting them. If it does get highly disruptive, then report it. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk ♦ contribs) 09:52, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

- Text on user's talk page:I took a look at Extreme Punk Rock Princess Wrestler training (as an admin, I can look at deleted pages). I'm going to be straight on this— your writing style needs a lot of work. I recommend that you work on existing articles and make minor changes at first. Look at how other wrestling articles are structured and use them as a base before you start a new article. George D. Watson (Dendodge).TalkHelp 17:22, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia Time
editI believe all the Wikipedia Servers are in America. Does Wikipedia operate on EST time then ? How can you check what time Wikipedia is operating on ?
Tovojolo (talk) 21:57, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is on UTC, which is five hours ahead of Eastern. If you go to Special:Preferences and click on the "gadgets" tab, then under the "User interface gadgets" section you can add a handy clock in the upper-right corner of the screen. Xenon54 21:59, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Reliability
editI have a little trouble with figuring out what's a reliable source and what's not. What do you think of this one? Youre dreaming eh? (talk) 23:08, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- I would say that's somewhat reliable, yes, given that it's a circulating magazine requiring subscription, and has been for the last ten years. Wisdom89 (T / C) 23:10, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- I'd agree. In the future, the people over at the reliable sources noticeboard are good to ask too. Best, --Bfigura (talk) 23:11, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- In practice, it's reliable if nobody challenges it. So, basically, the more controversial or non-notable the topic, the more likely it is to draw challenge, and thus the more reliable one's sources have to be. It never hurts to re-read WP:RS, but the basic test for reliability is "what survives on Wikipedia." It looks like The Nerve Magazine does not uphold the highest journalistic standards (the casual use of coarse language, not that there's anything wrong with that, suggests a lack of gravitas), so it could be vulnerable in a content dispute that turns into a religious war. It's probably good enough for peacetime duty. --Teratornis (talk) 23:23, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
ToC
editNot sure if this or the computer refdesk is the best one, but following this from another user, "did you know that your talkpage ToC displays..." I'm wondering how to find the ToC of my talk page, please? I use Safari. Julia Rossi (talk) 23:42, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- ToC means "Table of Contents". Hope this helps.--Sunny910910 (talk|Contributions|Guest) 23:47, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- It is the box on your talk page titled "Contents." Your's appears on the far left as a long skinny white box that has all the links to the headings on your talk page. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk ♦ contribs) 23:53, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
