Disappearance of records of nomination to DYK for article on Henry Wriothesley, 2nd Earl of Southampton

All references to the nomination to 'Did You Know' for the article on Henry Wriothesley, 2nd Earl of Southampton [1], seem to have disappeared, both on the 'Did You Know' pages, and on the Talk page for the article, where two of the DYK editors had left brief comments asking for clarification as to which article was being nominated. I've left a message on the Talk page of one of the editors at [2]. I'd leave one for the other editor as well, but I can't recall his user name. It's very puzzling, as I didn't think comments on the Talk pages of Wikipedia articles, or the record of a nomination, could simply vanish. Any help resolving this would be much appreciated. If you edit Talk:Henry Wriothesley, 2nd Earl of Southampton, you can see the template code and if you ctrl click it takes you through to {{Did you know nominations/Henry Wriothesley, 2nd Earl of Southampton}}. I'm not familiar with that template though and can't seem to tweak it to appear correctly --Elen of the Roads (talk) 00:40, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

Cite Error Question

I keep getting this message: Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page, but the references will not show without a {{Reflist}} template or a <references /> tag; see the help page.

But I have a Relist entered correctly (I think) on my page. Anyone know how to fix this problem? Or what I should look for?

The message is often in error. It also generates when you have forgotten to use a </ref> at the end of your citation. Just check the citation very carefully to see that it is correct. GeorgeLouis (talk) 04:18, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

We can all see User:Dacusthompson/sandbox. You had duplicated the whole article so there were two {{Reflist}}. The first came before many of the references and that's not allowed. I have reverted it to the valid version right before your attempted submission. The box at top says: If you are writing an article, and are ready to request its creation, click here. Note that after clicking, the edit box says: please don't change anything in this text box and press "Save page". The first time you must have copied the whole article into the edit box because it was nearly empty. Don't do that. Only press "Save page". PrimeHunter (talk) 04:20, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

Aministrator misconduct

How should i respond if i see an administrator calling others idiots and trolls among other names? Is a proposal for a desysopping appropriate? Pass a Method talk 03:55, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

I agree, particularly with the part about talking to the admin. Taking it to ANI could cause trouble for the other users if they were not totally blameless (which I presume is not what you want to happen). —teb728 t c 10:09, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

• The 4th (along with the 3rd and 5th, but I digress) pillar of Wikipedia's five pillars is effectively void. Trying to get action against someone, much less an administrator, for being uncivil is effectively impossible. The incivility would have to be sustained, long duration, and grossly insulting to even attract attention, much less action. Some editors go for years being disgustingly insulting without any action against them. Even arbitrators are frequently insulting, rude, and demeaning without there being the slightest eyebrow raised. You can report the incivility, but don't expect anything to come of it. • As the admin who made the comments objected to, I would say in general that the best idea to take it to one of the administrators' noticeboards. I do, of course, agree, as per my own terms of adminship, to allow an uninvolved admin whom I trust, which is virtually any of them, to review my conduct and abide by their decision.
• However, it is I believe worth noting that my comments which I believe were objected to were related to an instance in which I was attempting to tell someone currently involved in an RfC/U regarding his own problematic wordchoice that obvious insults are not the only means of condescension open to us, and at times truly problematic editors can be embarassed enough by the commentary on their conduct that they might cease being problematic. Also, at no point did I provide any clearly identifying details regarding who the editors I was referring to were. Although I am far from sure, because the editor who started this thread hasn't clearly identified the comments to which they object, I'm not sure that those comments were even directed at that editor personally. Considering that the editor who started this thread has, to the best of my knowledge, never had any substantive contact with the editor on whose talk page I left the comments, I perhaps wonder regarding how they saw the comments to which they object in the first place. Bypassing review process to post a new entry

Is it possible to bypass the review process for a new entry? More specifically, is it possibly to post the entry immediately or do all entries have to wait the few days for review before the entry can be posted? Dacusthompson (talk) 04:16, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

Your entry is posted immediately. The reviewers get to choose which articles they want to review, but they do the reviewing only after the article is posted. GeorgeLouis (talk) 04:23, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

If you mean could you WP:MOVE User:Dacusthompson/sandbox directly to article space rather than indirectly through AFC review, the answer is yes. Ordinarily for a new editor it is wise to go through review, to get content advice from the reviewer. —teb728 t c 04:48, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

Hiding images using css

I am trying to hide images on certain pages by using css, according to Help:Options to hide an image, but it doesn't seem to work for some pages. My css page is here. Wikipedia article classes are kind of awkward. Here's your current code:

This is what you want:

Incorrect information related to the article "Talaash (2012 film)"

If you check the collection of the movie talaash (2012 film) from the reliable sources you would find that its two days domestic total for two days is 30.89 crores while as in your article it is mentioned as 27 crores, that, that means there is big gap of Rs 3.11 crores. Do make the necessary changes and make wikipedia for reliable unlike the article mentioned above.

Wrong information

Hello, I am writing becouse i tried to change some things about articles in Wikipedia, but it didn't allow me to do so, and i even received a message that i was vandalising the page witch was not true. I am sking for help becouse i feel offended by the wrong information i read in the articles. Its about the Old Bulgarian Langiage - the article in Wikipedia is called Old Slavonic language instead of Old Bulgarian Language, but ok let it be Old Slavonic Language as long as its sad : Old Slavonic Language also known as Old Bulgarian Language, in all the other languages its written this way. Only in English in Russian is sad Old Slavonic Language and the part about it being also known as Old Bulgarian Language is left out witch i find very offensive, being bulgarian and knowing the history - you can check everything i say and please do so so that you believe me. The biggest problem is that in Macedonian it says : Old SLavonic Language also know as Old Macedonian Language - i can't take this its just too offensive and too much. Please you are an enciclopedia and you have to help me becouse this is not the first time i find information about my country left out!!! This is extreamly mean and i dont know to who to turn to. What is the problem against Bulgaria? I expect you correcting the web page in English, Russian and Macedonian and making thing right, like the other countries like Italy, Spain, Portugal, Ukraine etc did!

We can only help you with the English Wikipedia. Other language versions have their own procedures. Old Bulgarian is a redirect to Old Church Slavonic, and the infobox equates the two, so I've added the alternate name to the lead. Rojomoke (talk) 13:29, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

Help on Warnings on the article page for Amiram Goldblum

Dear Helper,

I found the following on the page that I have been editing. This warning is questionable due to the fact that the original article, from August 2012, on "Amiram Goldblum" was deleted by Wikipedia editors due to its being constructed for political smearing. The new version of the page was started recently, mid November, in order to try the smearing agin. I changed that smearing version in order to bring an exact and correct one, with the best possible references. HOwever, the person who tried the smear continues to try to modify in order to smear Goldblum's name again. So, the person who has conflict of interest with Golbdlum is not the current writer of this help request, but that other person who started the aticle, for no obvious reason but for political and possibly legal smearing. Much information was already sent to wikipedia to try and block such attempts, and so I present this request to either block that person from smearing Goldblum, or to delete the whole article on Goldblum, which is the preferred resolution. ParserFunctions — Number of pages in category won't update

I recently created a template to track the number of pages in certain categories in the Backlog using the #ifexpr function, which determines if the number of the pages in each category is equal to 0 (or 5 in one case), and then displays either the {{done}} or {{notdone}} template, depending on the count. But the only time it updates is when I edit the page and am previewing the changes. Even when I refresh the page it doesn't change. — JJJ ^{(say hello)} 17:29, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

Link to Wikipedia Article in Email Doesn't Work

When I post the link to the wikipedia article for "Dudley L. Poston, Jr." on Wikipedia on Facebook or send it in an email it says that the article does not exist. However, if I copy and paste the exact same link into my browser, the page comes up perfectly. It also appears and loads when I click the link through a search engine. I created the article quite some time ago, so I'm stumped.

Your link above is missing the period at the end of the name. The link looks the same to a human, but to a computer it looks like a different name.

It varies how programs interpret unmarked url's in text. Maybe the programs you have problems with think that the url ends at the comma or period. Try percent-encoding them:

Somebody made a redirect from Dudley L. Poston, Jr (without period at the end) to Dudley L. Poston, Jr. after your post. If you are only helped to the target because of this redirect then the top of the page will say "(Redirected from Dudley L. Poston, Jr)". If you get to the target without that message then you found a way to write the url so it's interpreted correctly by the used program. Maybe you only need to encode the ending period:

Translating a page

I wanted to translate an existing (Russian) page into English because there's no English equivalent. What are the rules regarding this? Would I be able to simply translate all the info from the Russian page? Would I be able to use pictures from the Russian Wikipedia page without a problem? Can I cite sources that are not in English that are approved for the Russian Wikipedia?

See Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate about attribution, etc. If the pictures are on Commons, you can use them directly. If not, you would have to re-upload them (preferably to Commons if they qualify for Commons). Your contributions don't seem to indicate you were working on an article, perhaps you are referring to something not related to Wikipedia? If that is the case, you should ask your question at the reference desk. If you were working on an article that was removed, you should check out WP:WWMPD. COIbot removes my link

Hello!

I am a researcher on 20th century violin concertos. I collected data for more than 10 years and compiled a free of charge and free of ads online database at www.violinconcerto.de. I am or was in touch with hundreds of composers and verified data and receives a lot of support for my project. I placed a link to my site at the Wiki entry for "Violin concerto" some time ago. This article mainly lists composers and their violin concertos - something my website obviously does better and more comprehensive. Therefore I thought the link might be useful. I also added the link at other Wiki-"Violin concerto"-sites (like the German, French, Swedish, etc Wikis). Due to a automatic rule the COIBot removes my links which actually does not make sense in my opinion. My site is non-profit, the data is serious and reliable, there is no other site that comprehensive. But for the reason that I put my site on different language-Wikis the bot banned my URL. What can I do that my site is classified as serious and that I can put links on all the different language sites of "Violin concerto"?

From reading the link that you give, I see that the bot is prejudiced (no doubt with good reason) against IP-address editors. So, something you can do is register and use a named account. You can just register once, and arrange for the same and password to apply to all Wikipedias. Then this bot, at least, will treat you with more respect. But Wikipedias still discourage editors from adding links to their own sites, however deserving. Maproom (talk) 22:57, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

*laugh* OK, the site again says that I am not a reliable source because I am just a person who made such a research and not a large organization or whatever. It actually gives no clue how to become a reliable source if I am not fitting in the tight limits of a reliable source (btw most of the links on Wiki are not reliable sources due to this definition). Proving that you are from the site is not going to help with the question whether you or it are a reliable source. See WP:RS for what constitutes a reliable source for Wikipedia purposes, particularly: Articles should be based on reliable, third-party, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. This means that we only publish the opinions of reliable authors, and not the opinions of Wikipedians who have read and interpreted primary source material for themselves.--ukexpat (talk) 14:09, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

OK, when you check my site you can see all the resources I used for my database - encyclopedias, expert books on violin repertoire, websites of National Music Information Center and information from composers and musicians themselves. They probably are reliable sources. Instead of adding a link to your own website, why not add some of your expert knowledge to some violin concerto related articles (perhaps where you would have added your link) and reference what you write with those same sources you have used on your site. The article has now been undeleted but it needs a lot of work -- it reads more like an advertisement than an encyclopedia article and it needs more references to WP:Reliable sources to demonstrate notability.--ukexpat (talk) 14:27, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
