Appropriate noticeboard for constant inappropriate pages?

edit

I apologize if this has been answered elsewhere and I've missed it, but I seem to encounter this problem every so often and I always leave it to someone else to resolve. If someone is constantly creating a page that clearly violates the criteria for speedy deletion and is getting deleted each time, but isn't actually vandalism, what's the proper noticeboard to report it to? Specifically for people writing autobiographies or promotional material. ProtossPylon 00:04, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If someone is creating the same page over and over and over again and isn't getting the message, then WP:AIV may be appropriate. If you don't get a good response there, WP:ANI is another option, but things reported there tend to degenerate into long discussions and it isn't the place to go for quick action. --Jayron32 00:14, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Correct. AIV will get a quick response. I would actually start with their talk page. ANI is a place to discuss if action is needed, rather than a place to automatically get a response. In any case, other than AIV, they need to be notified on their talk page. Some people are here only to add pages that are all going to be deleted, others are more than willing to do other, more appropriate tasks. Apteva (talk) 00:22, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the responses. I never thought about reporting to the AIV because it kind of implied that it was only for blatant vandalism. 207.161.130.174 (talk) 01:13, 25 January 2013 (UTC) (ProtossPylon 01:13, 25 January 2013 (UTC))[reply]

Find a phrase within a Wikipedia article

edit

I think this is self-explanatory. This is not an edit, but a request for help! 76.126.173.83 (talk) 01:06, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I use Contr-F. Jim.henderson (talk) 01:09, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Ctrl+f is a feature for this in common browsers, and many other programs. It works the same at other websites. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:23, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Assuming the problem is "how to find articles containing a given phrase, not just separate words": have you tried to surround the phrase "with quotation marks"? --CiaPan (talk) 12:01, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have brought this subject up repeatedly on the "talk" page! The entry on "elastic therapeutic tape" has been maliciously re-edited time and again since the summer of 2012. Someone is claiming that the holders of two old, unrelated patents are the "inventors" of the tape and taping method. This claim was entirely new in 2012 and the edits are obviously a malicious attempt to put erroneous historical facts into the mass culture. Everyone in the therapeutic community -- even his competitors -- knows that Kenzo Kase was the originator of this idea. Without the kind of second-hand reference that Wikipedia requires I have given up trying to keep his name in the article -- although it is a little like removing Alexander Graham Bell from an article about telephones. So Kase is out of the picture. C'est la vie. That does not mean he should be replaced by a fake inventor.

It is generally a strength of Wikipedia that you assume that everyone means well. Unfortunately it is not always so. This case is deliberate and malicious. Dr. Kase holds current patents to various aspects of the manufacture and practice of elastic therapeutic taping, and this Wikipedia campaign appears to be an attempt to create false facts for some kind of nuisance lawsuit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Viejitadeloeste (talkcontribs) 06:10, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe you should simply re-insert the inventor's name supporting it with an appropriate reference to the patent (say, from Google Patents database or directly from the US Patent Office)...? --CiaPan (talk) 13:06, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Train2Game

edit

We would like some assistance in understanding why DDavid Gerard wants to remove links to organizations such TIGA, The Prince's Trust, BBC, Microsoft and even the world renown City and Guilds. Currently we can only assume he has a bias angle - what are the fact please and why does he continue to delete factual accuracies? Eric Swan — Preceding unsigned comment added by SwanPR (talkcontribs) 10:56, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Attempted commercial PR cleansing of Train2Game - see history for attempts to PR-cleanse cited negative information - other eyes welcomed - David Gerard (talk) 11:07, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sirs Another individual has amended the Train2Game page, which we have undone, which included factually inaccurate content. There are two individuals doing this leaving. One whic the page claims does not exist Pinkbeast and the other being your David Gerard.

How can we resolve inaccuracies being added to Wiki.

Eric Swan — Preceding unsigned comment added by SwanPR (talkcontribs) 12:08, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You seem to have inexplicably forgotten to mention you are employed by the subject of the article. Pinkbeast (talk) 12:27, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

We have now notified both the UK Chapter and the Foundation so they can call the shots — Preceding unsigned comment added by SwanPR (talkcontribs) 12:36, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You can notify whoever you want but the fact remains that an organization does not determine what appears here. This is an encyclopedia and not an advertising medium or PR outlet. The content of articles is determined by editors who do not have a connection with the subject of that article. See WP:OWN. Dismas|(talk) 13:35, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I see that "This page is currently protected and can be edited only by administrators." Let's hope that they remove some of the junk now in the page. Maproom (talk) 17:59, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
What we've got protected is the PR stooge's version. Pinkbeast (talk) 18:58, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Would a passing admin please revert this back to my edit of 09:17, January 25, 2013? Thanks.--ukexpat (talk) 19:06, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Special:LinkSearch

Is there a way to limit Special:LinkSearch by namespace? Nikkimaria (talk) 13:36, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

unification statue

edit

I use my address as 'Reiro' I wanna unification statue which link korean and english address. Bur I know english's password, and my e mail don't accept my password request. how can I do?--Akarakas (talk) 15:51, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean that,
  • You are User:Reiro here on English Wikipedia, and,
  • You want a Wikipedia:Unified login, and,
  • You don't know the password to User:Reiro here on English Wikipedia, and,
  • Resetting your password via email isn't working, or,
  • Something else?
--Demiurge1000 (talk) 15:58, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I means
You made a request at Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations/Rejected/17#Akarakas → Reiro, but you never provided the requested evidence that you are the Korean Reiro. Make a new request at Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations and this time, make an edit in English as ko:User:Reiro confirming that you request the English account. Then link to the Korean edit in the request. You cannot keep the edits by the English Reiro if you usurp the account. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:24, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Am I doing so, I can unificate two?--Akarakas (talk) 16:35, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If you make a new request and it's accepted by a bureaucrat then you can unify the Korean and English username Reiro. I'm not a bureaucrat and cannot review the request. PrimeHunter (talk) 17:09, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much:)--Akarakas (talk) 17:13, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

refreshing pages

edit

How can I force an updated page to be refreshed? I have tried "?action=purge" but it seems to have no effect. Example, I edited The Octonauts but although it displays correctly for me when logged in, for non-users it shows the 13 January 2013 00:49 version which omits all my recent edits! (This is a semi protected page, perhaps this affects things?) One of my concerns is that the display of outdated information could lead to erroneous edits which do no reflect the current article's content. Samatarou (talk) 20:24, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think it is by design that IPs see a cached version of a recently edited page. However I am not sure they should be seeing a version that old.--ukexpat (talk) 20:28, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I guess this is the current problem discussed at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Users reporting site time issues and delay in visible update of edits. I don't know whether you can do anything. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:30, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Template for 403 error on external link?

edit

In Halo orbit there's an external link CDS140B: Computation of Halo Orbit. This gives HTTP status 403 Forbidden, and the text displayed is "Access denied You are not authorized to access this page."

I would like to flag this link, but I can't find a suitable template. It isn't dead, and there's no indication a subscription is required (it's a university site). -- Isidore (talk) 21:41, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure how to flag that error, either, but in this case I've fixed it by adding a {{Wayback}} template. -- John of Reading (talk) 22:17, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed article on Ulrich Vogt

edit
Section header provided. This relates to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Ulrich Vogt, German book author. Wizardman will be informed.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 23:52, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, dear Wizardman, many thanks for your work on my Wikipedia article "Ulrich Vogt, German book author". As a German who wrote this article I think I am right you did not accept my submission. You said that my submission "is not adequately supported by reliable sources", which can be verified. In this case everything can be verified because I myself am ULRICH VOGT, the German author!! The same text I've sent to you, translated by an American friend, has already been published in German Wikipedia in German language under "Ulrich Vogt, Buchautor". There you can see that everything is okay. You can also have a look to my private website "www.ulrichvogt.de",where you can see all the books I wrote in the last 16 years. Even in the "Katalog der Deutschen Nationalbibliothek"-"Catalogue of the German National Library" (find a Link to it) you'll get information of my published books. My Wiki-name is "paderulli", Ulli is a German short name for "Ulrich". My e-mail address is "ulrichvogt(at)gmx(dot)de". Here you see again that I am really the right person who wrote this special article in which every informations are really correct. Many thanks in advance Ulrich Vogt, book author — Preceding unsigned comment added by 176.199.213.26 (talk) 23:34, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry Ulrich, but on English Wikipedia, self-published sources are not accepted as reliable, and autobiography is strongly discouraged. Listing in national catalogue is fine for demonstrating that the books exist and that you have written them, but not adequate for demonstrating that you meet the criteria for notability. The rules may be different on de:Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ColinFine (talkcontribs) 09:44, 26 January 2013‎
