editGet list of reverted edits
editAre there any tools available or is there any way to easily see a list of an articles reverted edits? For example.. [1] it lists that 10 edits have been reverted but I have no way to see which edits those are and I would like to be able to check if the revert was valid or not. David Condrey (talk) 02:07, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- I don't know the answer, but I'll take the liberty of clarifying the question. Per the linked page, you're talking about a user's reverted edits, not an article's reverted edits as written. ‑‑Mandruss (talk) 08:55, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- You get a notification each time an edit you made is reverted. So, reverted edits can be identified (although not quickly) from "Your notifications" (click the little number next to your username, right at the top of any WP screen). Then "All notifications" (at the bottom), then "More" and "More" and... Of course this only displays edits that were explicitly reverted by an Undo or a rollback, not any that were cancelled out by direct edits to article text: Noyster (talk), 10:12, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
How to get rid of the spam filter
editI'm the author of the numismatic site ciscoins.net. It is completely non-profit, and contains lots of detailed information about coins of more than 30 countries (later will be about 50), including high quality images. It exists more than 7 years and is considered reliable by many coin collectors. And I make it in 3 languages - English, Spanish and Russian. So I would like to create 30 x 3 = 90 external links to my site - or, in many cases, modify the existing ones. But starting with the 5th link I'm getting a message that my links may be spam, and I have to re-enter the confirmation code. How can I get rid of this spam filter? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ciscoins (talk • contribs) 07:02, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- Dear Ciscoins, please do not make external links from Wikipedia to your website at all. External links should be kept to a minimum, follow the guidelines, and never multiple links to a single site. Since it is your own website you have a conflict of interest (see WP:COI). Please do not place any links to your website. Thank you, Taketa (talk) 07:52, 13 October 2014 (UTC), edited by CiaPan (talk) 08:23, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- Minimize, but not exclude. The majority of the pages don't have external links at all. The others have 1 or 2, but they lead to some uninformative sites. And the others already have a link to my site, but these links are already broken. I understand that Wikipedia may have its own policy on placing links, but this policy is obviously wrong. You must change it.Ciscoins (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 09:04, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- Coming in to Wikipedia ranting that a policy is "obviously wrong" and that Wikipedia "must change it" isn't likely to influence editors positively. Robert McClenon (talk) 14:59, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- It does seem to be a high-quality, encyclopedic site, which would add value to external links, especially when there are no others. I can't comment on accuracy, except to assume good faith, and we're not really vouching for its accuracy by linking to it anyway (at least not as much as using it as a reference, which would also seem reasonable in this case). Canvassing for numismatic folks... —[AlanM1(talk)]— 09:30, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

- Just give one link to the site's main page in English. You almost certainly have some kind of index there, which lets readers to select a region of interest, so you don't need 'times 30' links. You probably also have a language selector to allow a visitor easy switch to Spanish or Russian version — so you don't need 'times three', either. If you describe your site in Spanish or Russian Wikipedia, you can use a single link there, too, for similar reason. --CiaPan (talk) 09:25, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- WP:ADV - Do not add links to any website you own or represent. Ofcourse you are free to disagree with this. Guidelines can be discussed on their talk pages. You can find the link to a talk page at the top of any page. Note that you are allowed to post an external link on articles talk pages and suggest that neutral people check if the link should be on the article. - Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 09:37, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- Then show me a single page where such a link may be placed. The person who is interested in Bolivian Bolivianos will never try to find some useful links at the page about Georgian Lari.Ciscoins (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 09:43, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- How about Numismatics or Coin collecting? Neither of these have any external links at present: Noyster (talk), 10:21, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- Well, I'm one of the numismatic "folks", so I would say it looks OK and useful. If I could suggest releasing the images under a creative commons license ... either way, I would have no objection to seeing it added as an EL for such pages, say, as those on individual currencies, or on coins of a specific country. I have no objection to having the author add it himself, I don't have a lot of time for such things. It looks like a lot of thought went into it and he has a fair number of the standard references. Our coverage of international numismatics is nowhere near as good as on US coins and I think this would be helpful.--Wehwalt (talk) 15:14, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- I don't think it sets a good example if we tell somebody they can just add 30-50 external links to their own site without individual review. It may be better if User:Ciscoins posts to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Numismatics#CISCoins site? with a list of suggested additions with complete code ready to be copied to a linked article if a reviewer agrees. Based on [2] an entry on such a list could look like:

- TWICE WINNER of the INTERNATIONAL FEMALE ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR , Texas , USA.
- INDUCTED into THE ORDER OF CANADA July 1 , 2009 " for her achievements during her career
as a Canadian Country Music Singer & Songwriter " . She is one of the very few recipients who has been listed as being from two provinces which of course includes her home province of Nova Scotia .
- Carroll has contributed to the Arts & Culture of the province of Nova Scotia spanning an illustrious career of FORTY PLUS years . As a singer /songwriter Carroll has been an exemplary
ambassador representing Nova Scotia nationally & internationally .Carroll was born in Bridgewater & raised in Port Medway . She attended elementary school in Port Medway & neighboring Mill Village & later Liverpool Regional High School , Liverpool. She has been described as " Canada's Queen Of Country Music " . While she has received many awards & received much recognition she has never failed to remember where she came from & she has consistently referred to herself as " Queens County's Daughter " . She remains a proud Nova Scotian .
- As an Order of Canada recipient Carroll requested & was given permission to have Port Medway listed along with her address of Guelph on the official website. While Carroll resides in Guelph
her ties to Nova Scotia remain strong emotionally & physically . Many of her cherished awards & memorabilia are showcased in the Hank Snow Museum located in Liverpool , NS. She is very proud to be part of the heritage of Nova Scotia . She performed for free at the opening of the Hank Snow Museum as the headliner outside in 30 + degree weather with no shade ! I was present & have no idea how she managed to do that . She did that to support s fellow Nova Scotian & to support her community of Liverpool where that museum draws tourists & commerce for the South Shore . She has also performed a number of times for Privateer Days in Liverpool which again is an important financial event for the community as it brings in many visitors to see someone of Carroll's caliber . On her visits to the South Shore Carroll stays with her brother Willis in the homestead built ny her father. Carroll & John continue to own property in West berlin purchased from her grandmother's estate . She returns to Nova Scotia & her hometown on a regular basis to visit & to spend time .
- Carroll is rather unique in that rather than being involved in one particular charity she has a lengthy history of contributing to a variety of causes and worthwhile endeavors . She is a typical Maritimer in that she gives generously of herself in many different ways . She has consistently over the years donated her time, money , talent & memorabilia to a wide range of community activities . For instance Carroll was the FIRST to co-host the Annual Easter Seals Superthon/Telethon on CBC in Toronto . She performed these duties for TEN CONSECUTIVE years beginning in 1985. She was a regular participant in the Variety Club Telethons in both Toronto & New York , the Children's Miracle Television & the Sick Children's Telethons for many of the Sick Children's Hospitals .
- Involvement with the KIdney Association , Muscular Dystrophy , Multiple Sclerosis , Cystic Fibrosis & AIDS all benefited from her compassion & interest . Carroll also supported many charitable events across Canada connected with the Lions Club , Rotary Clubs , Kinsmen ,the CNIB & organizations that were connected with Abused Women & Children .
- Although Carroll retired from her rigorous touring schedule in 2011 she continues to perform limited engagements as Fairs , Concerts , festivals & in Casinos across Canada . As recently as last summer she again appeared in Liverpool , Saint John & PEI .
- I am hoping that this information will assist you in correcting a definite oversight .

- Too long, difficult to read. Does your issue have to do with the article, Carroll Baker (singer), or with an article on the Order of Canada? Can you please summarize your issues on an article talk page down to a length that can be read? Robert McClenon (talk) 14:52, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- Or it may just be that the OP wanted the singer adding to List of musicians from Nova Scotia, which is, of course, something that the OP can do. --David Biddulph (talk) 15:55, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

Placing repeatedly-used pages into Template space
editHi all, I'm seriously considering placing two Guild of Copy Editors pages that are regularly copied into template space; these are used for our regular, bi-monthly Blitzes and Drives. I'd like to do this so our project's coordiantors can more easily create Drive and Blitz pages without having to unearth old diffs and copy-and-paste them into new pages, as we do currently—they could invoke them with something like {{subst:Create-new-GOCE-drive-page}}. Would this a) be an acceptable use of template space, b) cause any technical problems with the templates used in these pages, or c) have the effect of unexpectedly causing problems elsewhere or annoying any users? I don't want to create any unnecesary messes that others have to run around cleaning up, fixing or deleting. Thanks for your time. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 15:21, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Baffle gab1978, any pagename placed like {{subst:article}} (Replace "article" with your projectpage name, will cause the contend to be copied to the new page. You don't really need a template to do that. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 15:31, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- If you for example simply change your /Blitzes/Template page, that would work. And also, to use a subpage of a page as template you csn leave out the pagename itselve, do on the /Blitzes page, if you type only {{subst:/Template}}, you get the /Blitzes/Templates page as template, so all you need to remember is to type /Templates. Very easy. - Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 15:42, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks guys, much appreciated. I'll have to tinker with it, but I didn't know I could do that sort of thing outside Template space. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 19:20, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. accessdate errors showing in references despite using template and ALL references have current URL's!
editChris Troutman used to help me with any problems on the Wikipedia Princeton, Texas website. I've written him, but have heard no response. At one point, he referred this page, where I have an active reference link for virtually every line, to the Wiki board a year or so ago. After two months, he sent me a virtual plate of cookies and said the page was approved and there was a protection placed on it, because someone kept deleting whole sections. Since Feb. 2014, the problems began again. This time, I replaced the sections. Last Fri., all of a sudden, a red error message is connected to my references, which are all interactive, with one exception. Read the help page on access dates and redid the template for the first reference, but nothing changed. HELP!City of Branch (talk) 18:17, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- Princeton, Texas has date values such as 08-23-14. As the help page states "yyyy-mm-dd is the only all-numeric date format that is accepted in CS1 citations." -- Gadget850 talk 18:27, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- Also, the reference named "Beattie" is multiply defined. The ref definition that you corrected is being ignored because of an earlier definition of the same ref. ‑‑Mandruss (talk) 18:34, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

My client wants dob removed from the wikipedia description that comes up when searched in google
editHi. I know you are all volunteers, so I appreciate in advance all of your help. Is there a way to remove the year of birth that is shown in the wiki description when you search a person on google? We were able to remove it from the actual wiki page, but we are not able to figure out how to remove it from the description in google. Thank you very much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 123chap (talk • contribs) 20:32, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- Just out of curiosity, which article have you removed the dob from? . . Mean as custard (talk) 20:41, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- And why does your client want it removed? PrimeHunter (talk) 20:49, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- Eventually (actually pretty soon) Google will scan WP again and update its index. Once that happens Google will display the new version. RJFJR (talk) 20:58, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- It depends what the poster means by "the wiki description". It could be a case of {{HD/GKG}} with data not taken from Wikipedia, but we cannot say without knowing which article it is about. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:22, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
- Based on their contributions, I would guess that they're referring to Bucky Baxter. The DOB that they removed was unsourced anyway. So removing it was fine per WP:BLP. That said, I agree that it's up to Google when they change their info. Dismas|(talk) 00:06, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
- The removal by User:123chap was after my post but a similar IP edit earlier indicates it is indeed about Bucky Baxter. As I suspected, the search google:Bucky Baxter does not display the year in a place sourced to Wikipedia but in a field of Google's Knowledge Graph with no specified source, so here is the standard text from {{HD/GKG}}:
- Are you by any chance referring to a photo or text shown to the right of a Google search? Google's Knowledge Graph uses a wide variety of sources. There may be a text paragraph ending with "Wikipedia" to indicate that particular text was copied from Wikipedia. An image and other text before or after the Wikipedia excerpt may be from sources completely unrelated to Wikipedia. We have no control over how Google presents our information, but Google's Knowledge Graph has a "Feedback" link where anyone can mark a field as wrong. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:18, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
