When I was ten my stepdad introduced me to the bass guitar and since then I’ve had a growing infatuation for music. My first five albums I bought were Fatboy Slim, Moby, The Hives, Marvin Gaye, and The Velvet Underground. To this day I still listen to those albums. I’ve made music my life and am currently working in all aspects of it, from studio recordings, live sound, licensing, management, A&R and simple advice to young artists. Although I see these things as beneficial for the Minneapolis music scene, I want to help and learn on a much grander scale eventually.Zacharding (talk) 03:26, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Im in the process of usurpating the username Frigid and am looking for an arctic themed signature. I have decided on one type but which order of colors looks best. Please vote 1 or 2. If you have any cool suggestions too, I would like to hear them. Im posting this in a few places and am going to choose the one with the most votes. Thanks. Here they are.

According: Resubmit article

edit

Hello Wikipedia-Community,

I tried several times to resubmit my new article about the voxeljet AG Draft:Voxeljet AG. The article got declined because of too much paraphrasing. I changed some parts and wanted to resubmit it. But each time I pushed the "save page" button for resubmitting nothing changed. In the description is said that there should appear a new yellow box on the bottom of the page and it will be suggested for the permission and will get controlled. So maybe you could help me or give me some advice to get out of this disaster.

Thank you very much and I am looking forward to your answer,

David — Preceding unsigned comment added by Davidwikipedia94 (talkcontribs) 07:41, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A </references> tag was missing, and this was interfering with your submission requests. I've fixed things up and the draft is now in the review queue. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:51, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
John of Reading it should actually be <references/> but apparently the other way works now.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 21:29, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Vchimpanzee: This draft has a <references> tag followed by the list-defined reference definitions. After my edit, the <references> tag was correctly closed by a </references> tag. After your edit the references are no longer correctly closed - notice that the commented categories are no longer showing. But no matter, the draft has been declined. -- John of Reading (talk) 21:39, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that. I was unaware this even existed. I checked and everything looked normal both before and after.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 21:48, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I fixed it, but it seems to me another name should have been used besides "references" for the tag that opened and closed so people won't get confused as I was.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 22:18, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The user page User:Drabimanyu contains a poorly-written article claiming that Zohaib Ali Khan played cricket for Pakistan from 1998 to 2008, and is now a "local film superstar". I can find no evidence for either claim, nor for the claim that he is the Nawab of Swabi. However, someone has posted many videos of him on Youtube. Maproom (talk) 10:09, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

edit

Please don't think me stupid! What is wrong with ref. number 93 on the Lupton family page? Thanks again — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.182.217.169 (talk) 10:19, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. It didn't like "accessdate=11 August 20115", it prefers access dates to be in the recent past. Maproom (talk) 10:29, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
In these cases it is always worth looking at the error message. In this case the error message was very clear. It told you (in red) that the problem was in the accessdate parameter, and also gave a wikilink to a help page (though in this case the help is unnecessary). --David Biddulph (talk) 10:57, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Connector infobox in article section

edit

I was thinking on putting a connector infobox in On-board diagnostics#OBD-II diagnostic connector. I've always seen that infobox at start of an article, but never deep in the article. My intention is to substitute the actual pinout table with the "standardized" infobox. I asked in the talk page with no success, so I ask here. Do you see it appropriate? xOneca (talk) 10:36, 11 August 2015 (UTC

It is used mid-article in IEEE-488. I don't see any problems with that. The use of the template seems appropriate in this case. Rwessel (talk) 17:55, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry - but I don't know how to change an incorrect citation. Ref. 93 on Lupton family page - the 2nd last line of Ref. 93 - should read: (an Old Bedalian) NOT (and Old Bedalian) I am embarrassed! Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.182.217.169 (talk) 10:43, 11 August 2015‎ (UTC)[reply]

It is easier for people to help you if you include a wikilink to the article in question. You make it even more difficult if you forget to sign your message so we can't even look at your contributions easily. --David Biddulph (talk) 10:48, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You can correct that the same as editing any of the text in the article. Click the edit button either at the top of the page or preferably at the top of the section where the reference is defined. Find the text and change it. Then save. (If you've just edited the section one drawback is that you can't easily preview the reference change, so you'll need to check it after the save.) --David Biddulph (talk) 10:52, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Query regarding Grey Panel

edit

Hi. I just made my first edit to Wikipedia as a registered Wikipedia user on the following page: C-sharp major

However, I failed to understand how to make changes in the grey vertical panel displayed on the right-hand side of the page.

Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks for taking your time out. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vinay was here (talkcontribs) 17:43, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

That panel is an infobox. In this particular case it is created by the use of Template:Infobox musical scale. Unless you understand how the syntax of the infobox work, I would recommend that you don't try editing it. If there are things which need changing, you may be better advised to make suggstions at Talk:C-sharp major, with reasons. Note that in your question I have changed the url of the article to a wikilink. --David Biddulph (talk) 17:50, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Now that I look at the article I see that your edits were reverted, and it looks as if the revert was justified. You may want to look at external sources, of which https://www.basicmusictheory.com/c-sharp-major-key-signature is one example. If you are still convinced that your change is justified, the place to discuss it is on the article talk page, but you would need to provide references to published reliable sources to support your change. --David Biddulph (talk) 18:03, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sports people from Perth, Scotland

edit

I wish to point out that Donald Mackay should be included in the page 'Sports People from Perth, Scotland' Although born in Glasgow, his parents moved to Perth when Donald was months old therefore most of his life (25 years of it) was spent in Perth. You can find all his details on his Wikipedia page and you will see that he played professional football with Forfar Athletic (4 years) Dundee United (10 years) and Southend United (2 years). He also went on to coach Bristol City youth team before going on to manage Norresundby (in Denmark), Dundee FC, Coventry City FC, Blackburn Rovers FC and Fulham FC. I accessed the page on Wikipedia for Jeanfield Swifts jfc for whom Donald played perhaps less than a year before joining Forfar Athletic. I think his professional career somewhat deserves a mention in the Sports People from Perth as there are many on that particular page who have not achieved half the acclaim he has.

Kind regards

My imdb.com page Michelle Woods says im not married and I have no children. My official website https:// www.michellewoods.com states in red writing that I am not married to Jeffrey Donovan and that I have no children. My official site is also linked onto imdb. on bing search tesults you click Michelle Woods and wikipedia linked that to my pages confusing the press and public. i am not Jeffrey Donovans wife stop using my copyright photos as his spouse — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:CE9E:94C0:F06F:E3C:FF9F:8F6E (talk) 18:08, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia does not control search engine searches, in fact the Wikipedia article Jeffrey Donovan makes no obvious mention of a spouse. Search engine results are taken from multiple sites, and so this information is caused by an issue on another website, not Wikipedia. Joseph2302 (talk) 18:23, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The Wikipedia article on Jeffrey Donovan made no mention because the IP user took it out. I reverted the IP's edit, because although the article did say Jeffrey Donovan was married to a Michelle Woods, there was no link between his Michelle Woods and the actress. Indeed, the actress Michelle Woods does not appear to even have a Wikipedia article at all. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 19:06, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
If you believe there is a problem in a page here at our website https://en.wikipedia.org then please check the problem is actually here and link to the page.
Are you sure you are seeing the problem in Bing search and not Google search? Here is a standard reply about Google:
Are you by any chance referring to a photo or text shown to the right of a Google search? Google's Knowledge Graph uses a wide variety of sources. There may be a text paragraph ending with "Wikipedia" to indicate that particular text was copied from Wikipedia. An image and other text before or after the Wikipedia excerpt may be from sources completely unrelated to Wikipedia. We have no control over how Google presents our information, but Google's Knowledge Graph has a "Feedback" link where anyone can mark a field as wrong. Wikipedia Description of Oceana Energy Company

edit

I am General Counsel to Oceana Energy Company. It was brought to my attention that Wikipedia contained information about Oceana Energy Company. When I checked the information I discovered that it was extremely out of date (more than 7 years old and seriously inaccurate, contain derogatory information about the Company apparently written by a competitor. So I rewrote the Oceana Energy information in it entirety. At the end of the process I received a message warning me that some links had been removed and against "vandalisM and told me that if I wanted to proceed with changes, which I did, I should save page again and then send Wikipedia an "error message." Which this is. Although the system told me that the updated information concerning Oceana had been saved, however when I went back to the Wikipeida listing for Oceana I discovered that the out of date, inaccurate and derogatory information had not been replaced. How do I fix this? 18:14, 11 August 2015 (UTC)Dtlaw (talk)

@Dtlaw: Due to your conflict of interest, you should not be directly editing that article, instead you should suggest changes at the article talkpage. I've reverted your changes, because they removed sourced content with unsourced, promotional tone content- note that Wikipedia is not a place to advertise your company. I've also PRODed the article, as I do not believe your company is notable enough for Wikipedia. Joseph2302 (talk) 18:27, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The bottom line is that the old article re Oceana is hopelessly outdated and perhaps more importantly false with negative statements about Oceana apparently provided by an Oceana competitor. If I cannot edit the article then it should simply be deleted as out of date. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.15.59.201 (talk) 19:12, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

What you should do, instead of editing the article directly, is post suggested changes at the talk page. You need to make sure any suggested changes are attributed to reliable sources which are not published by the company itself (i.e. not the company's website, not press releases, etc.). One example of such sources is an article published in a newspaper about the company. Again, an article, not a re-printed press release.
I agree that there is some unnecessary negative information in the current article. I'll remove that information, as the article currently seems to be serving as a coatrack for that. That will reduce it to a stub, and if you want to communicate on the article's talk page we can collaborate on the article from there. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 19:20, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. I did not remove ALL the information about competitors' accusations; as some of it is/may be relevant when/if the article is expanded, but I did remove the unnecessarily inflamatory quote at the end, which could be considered a violation of our policies on living people. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 19:27, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,. two questions --

I'm trying to add something to one article without learning a huge manual of procedures. Simply, how do I fix the problem> i find the help stuff useless.

Secondly, can I add a photograph somehow? I can see nothing on this anywhere...

LCI — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lloydt2y (talkcontribs) 20:44, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed some extraneous text from the date parameter of the cite template on M102 howitzer. Is that what you were asking about? I also see that user:David Biddulph has reverted your edits for being unsourced. Note that personal experience is not a reliable source, please see WP:RS. Rwessel (talk) 21:26, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As for adding a photo, Lloydt2y, I'm afraid that this is a bit complicated. There are two complications. The first is the matter of copyright: if you took the photo yourself, you can probably upload it, because you probably own the copyright and have the power to release it under a suitable license. If you did not take it yourself, you probably cannot use it unless you can persuade the copyright owner to release it under a Creative Commons licence (permission to use it on Wikipedia is not enough). If it is a picture you found on the internet, it is unlikely that you can use it.
If its copyright status is suitable, then the second complication is that there are two steps to using it: first you must upload it to Wikimedia Commons (see Help:Upload) and only then can you use it in an article --ColinFine (talk) 23:52, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
