"Always use a secure connection when logged in"

When was the preference "Always use a secure connection when logged in" removed? There was no more http Wikipedia as of June 12, 2015. GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 00:03, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

Is there a reason you want a better answer than "Probably around the same time"? It was removed from Help:Preferences quite recently [1] so that doesn't say much. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:07, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for reporting this. It was due to vandalism of Template:Guardiantopic. —teb728 t c 01:43, 15 December 2015 (UTC) I reverted the vandalism and refreshed the John Updike page. Is there bot to refresh the other pages that transclude the template? —teb728 t c 01:48, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

I logged out and tested ten random articles transcluding the template and none of them displayed the error. Jalexander-WMF recently said about similar vandalism by the same person at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#vandalism I can't seem to fix: "We are running a cache clearing script (created for a similar attack a while back) as I type to try and fix that issue". The reference had the url repeated as the title; hence the 'external link in title' error message. However it appeared to be to a forum and therefore of little if any use. Two other refs. at same point so removed the error producing one. Eagleash (talk) 03:13, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

Again a reminder that when the word "help" in the error message is shown in blue it means that it is a wikilink. In this case the link goes to Help:CS1 errors#param has ext link. Sunrise Hospital - Wiki-link in Kochi

On the Wiki Page "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kochi", which is about Kochi, the URL directing to Sunrise Hospital is not the one located in Kochi. It is a hospital located in Nevada, United States. Please direct the domain to "http://www.sunrisehospitalcochin.com/". This is the correct domain of Sunrise Hospital located in Kochi/Cochin. Done - Thank you for pointing that out. I have changed the Wiki-link to "Sunrise Hospital (India)" for now. If enough reliable sources about this hospital exist, interested editors can create an article for it on that page (and a disambiguation, if necessary). Thor Heyerdahl interwiki links

Problem on navigating Wikipedia

Sometimes I use Wikipedia on my iPhone 5S updated to iOS 9.2 and since few days I must touch 2 times the wikilink for enter in... with various other sites I don't have this problem, it is sufficient to touch 1 times the link, but only on Wikipedia I have this problem... what can I do to solve? --Marce79 (talk) 10:17, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

I just tested on an 5s and 6 without issue on both the built in Safari Browser, as well as Chrome. However I have seen this in the past and what I recall the issue being was that if the page wasn't done loading yet (ie you could see content, but it wasn't 100% done loading) then it would give the sense that it took two clicks to follow a link. This evening I was on my iPad and discovered that if you used the 'desktop mode' in safari it does require two clicks to enter any link. However if you use the "mobile site" it only requires one. Try giving the mobile friendly site a try. Safari should automatically go there, but if it doesn't you can manually do it by using a link on the bottom of any page. Deleted edition for copyright

Hello. I just added a new sub-heading in the Greenpeace's page and it was deleted due copyright. The information I added came from an assignment that I had to do about "Sustainability in tech companies" where I found information in the original magazine, but every single word was said by my own, nothing printed.

In May 2009, Greenpeace started evaluating IT companies through Cool IT Leaderboard. The central role these companies are playing gives the opportunity to drive changes in the energy sector and achieve a significant reduction in the greenhouse gases that cause the climate change.

Need for 'Galby' Disambig page & Primary Topic

I just tried to find info on the Leicestershire village that is known as either Gaulby or Galby using the latter spelling and found myself instead taken to List of Inheritance Cycle characters which seems to be about the Eragon (film). 'Galby' is not even mentioned on this page but I guess it is short for 'Galbatorix'?

=> To say that the primary Galby topic is List of Inheritance Cycle characters seems tenuous to say the least to me. Judging by google the top two uses for 'Galby' are:

• the village Gaulby
• the surname Galby (probably derived from the village name)

Am I missing something about the Eragon film and the word Galby? If not I would like to create a 'Galby (disambig)' page and set either the village or the disambig page to be primary topic.

Is this about Draft:Robert J. Vinson? You have all your references listed at the bottom but you need the references at the ends of the statements that they support. See WP:REFB. Dismas|^(talk) 19:36, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

I can read on Wikipedia:Verifiability: Source material must have been published, the definition of which for our purposes is "made available to the public in some form"; this includes material such as documents in publicly accessible archives, inscriptions on monuments, gravestones, etc., that are available for anyone to see., which include also printed book or other papery publications that are available if you buy it: they're available for anyone who are willing to pay in order to read them. So I think an on-line archive, database or publications could be used as Wikipedia source even when you'll have to pay a fee or you must sign up to a site if you want to consult them, as long as the chance to pay or register himself is open to anyone who want. Yes, your guess is correct. Such links shouldn't appear in an "External links" section (see WP:ELNO #6), but using material that requires registration or is behind a paywall as a reference is quite acceptable. Deor (talk) 22:57, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

editing references

I would like to edit a reference for The Australian Jazz Quartet. It is a link that goes nowhere, and I have the new correct link. But when I go into edit mode on the page, the references disappear. So I need help with making this correction.

Hi Jwbeauch. When you are reading an article and see a references section near the bottom populated by a series of numbered citations, you might think that if you edit the page, you will see those citations typed in that section and be able to edit them. However, normally what you will see is markup similar to this:

The text of citations is actually in the body of the article, directly next to statements or paragraphs the citations support, using <ref>...</ref> tags, which display as Footnotes (e.g.) when you are reading an article. The template code shown above in the references section collates and displays all of the citations within the article in a numbered list in which the numbers correspond to the footnote numbers in the text. By clicking on the ^{^} symbol next to a citation display, you can easily find exactly where in the body of the article the citation text appears in order to edit it. Underlined links

I have noticed that links are not underlined unless you hover over them if there is no one specifically logged in, but always underlined if an account *is* logged in. I would rather have them all behave like the former, if possible. Is there any setting that I can tweak to change this like I want it? Joseph398 (talk) 23:41, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

@Joseph398: If you go to your preferences and select "Appearance", you will see a section "Advanced options". The first item in it is "Underline links"; does selecting "Never" and saving produce the result you want? (I'm not sure I understand exactly what you're looking for.)
