Laptop background voice

Help with new article

Hello. I'm interested in nominating Lutte Internationale as a DYK article and possibly improving it to GA-class. I think the article meets DYK's basic requirements but I don't understand how the process is supposed to work. I tried contacting members of WP:PW for some advice (I assume I'm supposed to use their formatting) but never got a reply.

I was also hoping to submit a photo as part of the DYK hook. Patric Laprade, a Quebec author and wrestling historian, claims Lutte's television footage is in the public domain. [1] I'd like to add screenshots from its television show (including a DYK image) but I don't know who to ask about this either. Hi! The instructions for WP:DYK nominations are at Template talk:Did you know. Since you are an IP editor and have not registered for an account, I don't think you can create the subpage, so I have done that for you. Go ahead and fill out the template, adding "subst:" before "NewDYKnomination" then transclude it per the instructions. If you need help transcluding it, I can do that for you once you've filled out the template. The template is at Template:Did you know nominations/Lutte Internationale

As for the images, I think that a statement on a forum to the effect that "All footage from IW is free to use, since the company went bankrupt and nothing was kept as far as master tapes" would not be acceptable as far as Wikipedia is concerned. If a company goes into liquidation, its material assets are not generally destroyed, but are realised as far as possible, to satisfy the creditors: as far as I know, this applies equally to intellectual property such as copyright. So I would expect that copyright survives, even though there may be nobody with an interest in protecting it. And even if I am wrong about this, I'm sure Wikipedia would require a more authoritative source than a comment in a forum. --ColinFine (talk) 00:56, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

Well I only brought it up since it's a published author claiming this. He was also the co-producer of a 2013 documentary on Quebec wrestling which used footage from "Lutte Internationale". Help:Cite errors/Cite error references duplicate key

As I think you recognised subsequently, you can avoid that error message by not using the same reference name again when the reference details are different. You can use a different name, or remember that a reference doesn't need a name at all unless you are using it more than once. Editing Fairfield Presbuyterian Church

If the article in question is Fairfield Presbyterian Church, I don't know why you can't edit the article, but you shouldn't edit the article yourself, because you have a conflict of interest. I have had a similar problem with the Captcha. Whether I type it in wrong or right, it still gives me another one to try, as if I had got it wrong (or maybe it thinks I enjoy doing them). Maproom (talk) 08:21, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

@Pastor Mike Schuelke: You are also triggering an edit filter. I'm not sure of the sequence of events if you both add an external link and trigger a filter with a new account. Watch users' edits

If you are on a user's user page or the user's talk page, you can view their User Contributions. However, why do you want to "watch" another user's edits? If you think that they are a good editor, and you want to learn from them, mentorship might be appropriate. Do you think that they are a bad editor, and that their edits need reverting? You cannot do it on your watchlist. If you want to "watch" multiple users without checking each of their contributions pages then you could make a userspace page with code like this for each user: [[Special:Contributions/Skyllfully|Skyllfully]]:{{Special:Contributions/Skyllfully|limit=1}}. It displays:

No changes were found matching these criteria.

It shows the most recent edit (limit can be increased). It doesn't work to put the userspace page on your watchlist. The page must be examined to look for recent time stamps. Contents may be cached. {{Purge}} can be added to make a purge link. Userspace pages are public so others can see who you "watch" unless you keep the source offline and only preview it. New link notifications

I often get notices that say: X was lInked from Y See all links to this page. But when I go to the links page I find no link from Y to X, and searching the history of Y does not provide an explanation. Can anyone speculate how this happens? No, PrimeHunter, I cannot see a view changes link in the notification (which BTW looks different when viewed from the drop-down menu and from the All Notifications page). I see only 3 links in the notification:

Wikidata discrepancy?

Several Wikipedias have articles discussing various US states' legal definitions of "village". Ours, for example, is located at Village (United States), while the German equivalent is de:Village (Vereinigte Staaten). The latter article has Wikidata-provided links (through d:Q751708) to the English article, as well as comparable pages in Arabic, Italian, Japanese, and Romanian. All of the foreign-language articles have correct links to the rest — but English has none at all. Why are the babel links missing from our article? Nyttend (talk) 16:41, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

I don't know why the interlanguage links and the "Wikidata item" link were missing but a purge fixed it. For some reason the page was apparently unaware of the Wikidata item when it was last rendered. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:47, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

Having issues SAVING page after making minor changes

Good morning,

Working to create a biographical page for KIM WOOD SANDUSKY (vocal coach/producer) in Nashville, TN, I am having trouble saving the page after my attempt to add citations for her Destiny Child's SURIVOR & OSMOSIS JONES production credits. After I make the updates, I click save and then a CAPTCHA appears. After entering the captcha numerous times, the page still will not save.

When this happens, it's likely because an external link you are adding to the page in question is listed on Wikipedia's Wikipedia:Spam blacklist, which is designed to prevent abuse of Wikipedia. Please check that your external links are reliable sources as defined by Wikipedia. --Jayron32 17:14, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

It's the third such report I see today so I wonder whether there really is a software issue in some circumstances. I made a test [3] with an alternative account which has to enter a captcha for external links. It worked fine the first time. PrimeHunter (talk) 17:29, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

CHANGE MY NAME

Hello. I am new to Wikipedia. I understand some of the basics of editing, however I want to change my name to another name that is slightly different. If you can't remember the new name, and it hasn't made any edits, then you'll probably have to choose another new one. If you know what the new name starts with, you can put that in the box at Special:ListUsers. - David Biddulph (talk) 20:13, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

@Sunshine Shelley: You haven't changed name. If User:Sunshine Suzy is also you then you have created two independent accounts. You have requested that "Sunshine Shelley" is renamed to "Sunshine Suzy". This can only be done if Sunshine Suzy agrees and is renamed to something else. Log in as Sunshine Suzy and post to Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations#Sunshine Shelley → Sunshine_Suzy. Say that you are same user and want User:Sunshine Shelley to take over the name. Translated first names

Hello, I saw that two Dutch persons who both have the same first name of Anne do not both get that name on this wiki. The politician Anne Vondeling is in Dutch known like that, while Andrew van der Bijl is known as Anne van der Bijl. Can anyone explain that? As per WP:Common name we use the common name in English, which for Brother Andrew, seems to be Andrew van der Bijl. However, I note there is a discrepancy between the two articles as to what his birth name actually was - Do you have a reliable source for this? This would enable is to change the infobox - but not the article title. The common name rule causes some annoyance, but covers people, places and even organizations - e.g. we use Vienna not Wien and see below for the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center - Arjayay (talk) 21:57, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

OK Arjayay, I have no problems with maintaining the article title. Not seeing his real (Dutch) name mentioned anywhere in the readable text, was in fact the thing that surprised me. This will serve as a reliable source for his Dutch name, I think. Apdency (talk) 09:07, 7 November 2015 (UTC)

Woodsville pictures

How large a library? Wikipedia isn't a photo hosting site. A few (up to maybe a dozen) images are sometimes good in a gallery at the bottom of the article but more than that usually isn't necessary.

That said, the best place for them would be at Wikimedia Commons so that they could be used on not only the English Wikipedia but every other Wikipedia as well. You can find the link to upload them at WP:UPLOAD. Dismas|^(talk) 22:04, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center page

I work for the above mentioned organization, which is now simply called Cosmosphere (including legally). I cannot figure out how to get the title edit to happen. You need to move the page. However, there was a previous discussion at Talk:Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center, which concluded the page should not be moved, so I'd recommend starting a new discussion about it. Also, Wikipedia uses what reliable sources call it, not what it legally calls itself. Joseph2302 (talk) 21:39, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

Maximum number of Obamas

I went searching on Orly Taitz and noticed that there were 119 instances of the word "Obama", while that number was easily passed by United States presidential election, 2008, it made me wonder what article has the string Obama most often, any ideas on how to find that out?Naraht (talk) 22:57, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
