editUnable to move article from sandbox
editIn my sandbox the "more" menu does not appear next to the search bar, even when I log in on other computers, therefore I am unable to move my article from my sandbox onto Wikipedia Jolofsson1 (talk) 00:31, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- You aren't autoconfirmed, because you haven't made ten edits. Is that a limitation of non-autoconfirmed users? I have moved your sandbox to Draft: Florence Martin. Robert McClenon (talk) 00:43, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- @Jolofsson1: Your account must be autoconfirmed to move pages, i.e. be at least four days old and have ten edits. You need two more edits. The "More" tab only appears if there is at least one link to place in it. A new account with default settings has no links for it. I have added a box to Draft: Florence Martin for submitting it for review. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:52, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
Twinkle and Article Deletion
editWould someone please explain to me how to use Twinkle so that I may request a few articles for deletion? Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 01:36, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- @Hitcher vs. Candyman: Set a check mark at "Twinkle" at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets, and click "Save" at the bottom. Then there should be a "TW" tab on articles. See more at Wikipedia:Twinkle. If it doesn't work then what is your browser and skin? PrimeHunter (talk) 01:42, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
@PrimeHunter: I have a question: am I able to request an article for deletion without the use of Twinkle or do I have to use Twinkle? Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 02:12, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- @Hitcher vs. Candyman: It's possible but much harder without Twinkle. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion#How to nominate a single page for deletion has instructions for editing the three required pages: Article, deletion discussion page, articles for deletion log. Twinkle automates all of it when you select XFD, and you just have to write the reason for the nomination. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:22, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
@PrimeHunter: Okay, I understand. Thanks again. I feel I've got the gist of it.Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 02:26, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
Help:Cite errors/Cite error included ref
editI want to add references to changes made to shpack landfill article. For example I'd like to add the reference
http://web.ornl.gov/info/reports/1982/3445604521159.pdf. ...can you frame this with tags as an example. I'm trying to insert in the ref on source page.... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jcbstudent (talk • contribs) 01:50, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- @Jcbstudent: I don't use VisualEditor. See Help:Referencing for beginners for instructions for the source editor.
<ref>http://web.ornl.gov/info/reports/1982/3445604521159.pdf</ref>
like here is the absolute minimum. The result becomes much better if a citation template like {{Cite web}} is used. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:16, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
Upload a photo
editHello; I would like to upload the photo of a writer. How do I do that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.134.227.124 (talk) 03:17, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- If you want to upload an image from your computer for use in an article, you must determine the proper license of the image (or whether it is in the public domain). If you know the image is public domain or copyrighted but under a suitable free-license, upload it to the Wikimedia Commons instead of here, so that all projects have access to the image (sign up). If you are unsure of the licensing status, see the file upload wizard for more information. Please also read Wikipedia's image use policy.
- If you want to add an image that has already been uploaded to Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons, add
[[File:File name.jpg|thumb|Caption text]]
to the area of the article where you want the image to appear – replacingFile name.jpg
with the actual file name of the image, andCaption text
with a short description of the image. See our picture tutorial for more information. I hope this helps. —Skyllfully (talk | contribs) 09:14, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
VisualEditor Sandbox Save
editI am attempting to edit a page for the first time for a graduate school class assignment. After days of headache with Wikitext, I discovered sandbox yesterday and decided to edit my page first there and then just copy/paste it over to the actual page I need to edit. Today I happened upon VisualEditor, so I started using that nifty feature to help me clean up the citations on the page (still using sandbox; I had copied over the original page to my sandbox for this edit). For some reason, now I cannot save the work I have done using VisualEditor. I keep getting captchas generated over and over, no matter what I do. Help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by ADavis2015 (talk • contribs) 05:31, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- @ADavis2015: See the above section #CAPTHCA malfunction. This is an issue with our visual editor software. Please go to the top of the page you are trying to edit and click on "edit source" and try the edit again. Please report back if you still cannot edit. --Stabila711 (talk) 05:35, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- and remove Gerald Nachman as a redirect to Gerald Nachman (journalist)
- not sure how to do it. Xb2u7Zjzc32 (talk)
- Although I normally prefer to be asked to do things instead of commanded, I've done this move. You can see WP:MOVE for how I did it. Dismas|(talk) 15:05, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
they want to delete my page please reply
editthey sent me that my article has no reference and will be deleted since it is a biography of a living person well it is not a biography it is an autobiography i am writing about myself i dont need reference please reply — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kamel saleh (talk • contribs) 17:15, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- Autobiographies are still biographies. Read the autobiography policy and see that the publication of autobiographies on Wikipedia is strongly discouraged due to conflict of interest. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:20, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- @Kalem saleh: Further to the above points, references are needed on all articles so the information within them is verifiable, meaning people can check whether they are accurate. If the article is deleted, you can retrieve it using WP:REFUND, and work on it with other editors as a draft until it is ready for article space: however, as the article is about you yourself it is recommended you suggest edits for other users to make from the article's talk page. This is done because it is difficult to write an article about yourself from a neutral point of view (presenting facts without taking sides), and without including your own research. Thanks, --Rubbish computer (HALP!: I dropped the bass?) 18:11, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- Although this may not have benn what you meant, owning an article on Wikipedia is not permitted. Thanks, --Rubbish computer (HALP!: I dropped the bass?) 18:13, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles that you have created yourself. That is a form of disruptive editing. The WP:BLPPROD tag has been properly removed, but the speedy deletion tag has been restored. Robert McClenon (talk) 21:14, 8 November 2015 (UTC)

- You are entitled to write your own autobiography without references, but it would not be suitable for Wikipedia, because the content here has to be based on what other people have published about you. That's why it is usually not appropriate for people to write their "own" articles. Why not publish your autobiography on your own website? Unfortunately, you seem to be more notable in English for having your picture misused on a dating website, but you might be notable on the Arabic Wikipedia. Dbfirs 08:10, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
Read the links in your talk page. - Supdiop (T🔹C) 09:14, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
Reviewing
editI have made a new article, and I want to know how long it should take to be reviewed. Rtewqq (talk) 17:34, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- In Wikipedia, there is no deadline. However, if you are requesting review of International Baccalaurate Schools in Henrico County, I would propose that it be merged into the article on the Henrico County public schools. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:47, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- I've setup a discussion about merging. Joseph2302 (talk) 21:45, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
Kansas Bowling
editHello I made a page and it said it didn't have enough sources. I added reliable sources to it but it still says the page might be deleted. Will this change? The page is KANSAS BOWLING, the horror director, and I added sources from IMDB, Fangoria, and the film distributor's website. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hellohart (talk • contribs) 20:19, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- Kansas Bowling (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
- Convenience link. Dismas|(talk) 20:20, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- It may be WP:TOOSOON for an article about Kansas Bowling. But before I get into that, that tag on the article can be removed by anyone if they feel that the issues it points out have been addressed. That includes you. But anyone can put it back if they disagree.
- As for the article, references need to be to reliable sources that are not connected, or independent, to the subject of the article. So, the distributor's website does not help verify Bowling's notability. Of course they have info on her. They can make money off her. They aren't independent.
- A person must be notable per one of our notability guidelines such as WP:GNG, WP:BIO, or some other guideline before they can have an article here. So, while Bowling may get some press, until she does she isn't notable enough. You might have a bit of ground to stand on with the Fangoria web reference or Dailygrindhouse.com, which I found when looking for info on her, but I don't know how they stack up as far as reliable references go.
- Does that help? Dismas|(talk) 20:33, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
Yes, thank you so much. I took down the Troma one and I'll add the others. If I fix it, this won't be deleted? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hellohart (talk • contribs) 20:37, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- @Hellohart: Having more sources would greatly help the article's chances of survival. That said, until the movie is actually released and more people write/talk about it, sources may be hard to find. Like we've said, it may just be too soon for a Wikipedia entry just yet. It won't be deleted until after the ongoing discussion is closed though. So, click on the link at the top of the article to go to that deletion discussion and see what editors have to say.
