Are you by any chance referring to a photo or text shown to the right of a Google search? Google's Knowledge Graph uses a wide variety of sources. There may be a text paragraph ending with "Wikipedia" to indicate that particular text was copied from Wikipedia. An image and other text before or after the Wikipedia excerpt may be from sources completely unrelated to Wikipedia. We have no control over how Google presents our information, but Google's Knowledge Graph has a "Feedback" link where anyone can mark a field as wrong. –FlyingAce^✈hello 17:37, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

All of these links are to ordinary popular websites: encyclopedia articles must be based on sources with solid reputations for fact-checking and reliability, and none of these present such an appearance. Help merging

I created Isabel Alice Hartley Crawford yesterday and stupidly didn't notice that there is already a Isabel Crawford article - from the Isabel Crawford talk page, I see that I made a minor edit but lost track of its existence in the meantime. Since the article created yesterday is new and, on reflection, I think that Isabel Crawford is the more common name, should I simply add the additional information from the new article into the older article, and delete the new article? Both articles are orphans, and the new articles has no additional edits except adding the orphan tag. Leschnei (talk) 12:07, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

Dhananjoy Chatterjee

The user "Godric on Leave" alias "Winged Blades of Godric" made several changes that are inaccurate at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dhananjoy_Chatterjee. Without proper knowledge and frequently changing user ID, this user is putting inaccurate information, which I believe is against the Wikipedia policy. This user should be blocked from Wiki. Keepfaithintruths: this is about a content dispute, and should be discussed on the article's talk page. I see that Winged Blades of Godric and others have already expressed their views there, and you have not. Maproom (talk) 14:11, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

Multiple issues with article

All,

I have edited the page of an organisation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BetBright but it is advising me that there are multiple issues including; needs additional citations and not meeting Wikipedia's notability standards.

Can someone help me rectify these? I've tried to reference all content so am a bit confused.

Hello Cnrwhite1990. I should suggest that you read WP:ORG. All (except perhaps one) of the references currently provided in the article don't meet depth of coverage. The references you have provided are routine announcements of happenings in the company. There is no reference that discusses the company in detail (for example, its history, its legacy, etc). Yes, there is one source from The Independent that discusses the company's setting up – and that seems good. But one source is simply not enough. We need multiple reliable sources discussing the corporation in depth to prove notability as per WP:ORG. Therefore, the solution is to add at least one or two more reliable sources that discuss the company in-depth rather than provide plain news announcements about happenings in the company. Hello once again Cnrwhite1990. I've seen the references you've added. I feel they don't discuss the company in detail and are mere news reports of financial performance or some license being granted. But this is purely my personal opinion. My suggestion here would be to post the weblink of your sources at the reliable sources noticeboard and get inputs from more editors on whether the sources are enough or not. Editing images

Hi,

I work with the journalist and I am able to provide accurate information and new images to update content of her. Every image I try to upload it says that you are not sure if I own the rights... and I am not capable of uploading and update images. How should I go around and do that? I have all rights for the images as they are coming from her desk directly. Kindly let me know, I am new to this.

Hey Rossuadc. If they are "coming from her desk" directly, then it is probably her, (or a company representing her) who actually owns the copyright for the images. For the purposes of Wikipedia, it is not whether you personally have been granted permission to use them, but rather whether the have been licensed for unrestricted public use, such as that under a Creative Commons license. If the original copyright holder (usually the person/organization who took or commissioned the picture) would like to release it in this way, they may follow the instructions outlined at WP:CONSENT. Questions about vandalism by a user reverting ClueBot NG's correctly identified vandalism

Here [[1]] I deleted the most recent repeated vandalism by User:2600:1:D70E:601C:E471:439:A55B:96AF here [[2]] I notified the ClueBot NG talk page about a question about an "Edit Summary" here [[3]] Where do I notify about vandalism in this case? It appears the the Administrators page is not appropriate, because warnings have not been given. Can this page qualify to be "semi-protected" because of repeated vandalism? A ri gi bod ClueBot will in fact have given a warning {{uw-vandalism1}} on the IP's talk page. You on reverting the repeat vandalism would be justified in sending the IP a second-level {{uw-vandalism2}} or third-level {{uw-vandalism3}} warning. Please see Wikipedia:Vandalism#Warnings for more guidance. If a user continues vandalizing despite several warnings, then WP:AIV is the place to report this. If there is frequent vandalism of an article from different users or IPs, then you may ask for some level of protection at Requests for page protection (Twinkle facilitates this): Noyster (talk), 17:22, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

Odd edit conflict

Writing this comment took several minutes, so when I saved, I wasn't surprised to see that I'd gotten into an edit conflict. I was presented with the contents of these edits to the same section, which correctly would cause the conflict, but also I was shown the contents of this edit, literally thirty sections higher on the page. Does the typical EC screen show you all the edits that have transpired since you started? I thought that it only showed you the conflicting edits, but that wouldn't be likely here. If any of the interveaning edits added or deleted a section, the section number may not have matched, causing the diff to et confused. This is not unlikely at ANI, where archiving and addition of new sections is frequent. In any case the diff function used by the edit conflict handler is not perfect. Inserting photos in a page for a health institution -- page was created a year ago; updates of photos are not being allowed by Wikipedia system

Hi, thanks for any guidance with this. On a preexisting page for our health institution, yesterday I replaced the existing text with new text. Also, I'd like to insert three photos from our personal files (taken by our inhouse photographer), but am told I am not confirmed to have permission to do that now--that I need to wait at least 4 days. I am using our login, which should be confirmed because it was created more than a year ago.

You say you are using our login. How many at ARUP Laboratories have used this login? Some confusion may have occurred which we can soon sort out with more information from you. i.e. How many ARUP employees add information to WP using your login?. Aspro (talk) 23:19, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

• @Kristendeem: Please be aware that the photos in question are almost certainly copyrighted. In order to use them here, which by extension allows anyone anywhere to use or modify them for any reason, then the copyright owner needs to follow the steps at WP:DCM. Because we do basically give away all content, we need to take those extra steps to ensure that we have the right to do so. Crow^Caw 23:42, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

@Kristendeem:. Thank you for bringing this article to our attention as it has problems. A possible single-purpose account @Dani0309: (who maybe working for ARUP) uploaded File:ARUP-history.JPG, File:ARUP-light-cycler.JPG & File:ARUP-building.jpg. These all had {{Di-no source}} tags added only for Dani0309 to remove them himself. So, whilst he may have received an email to himself from the copyright owner, we (WP) have not. Therefore, I am reinstated the deletion tags. Getting copyright rights sorted out can be a right pain at times but it is the law and part of our policy. Aspro (talk) 21:42, 24 August 2017 (UTC)

Media Viewer

Hi wiki I am wondering why every time I turn off media viewer, it's off for exactly one media view and immediately turns itself back on again. I thought this would have been fixed long ago and stopped donating to Wikipedia until this was fixed. Any ideas on how long this will be broken? Briang7723 (talk) 23:26, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

Hello Briang7723; thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia. We're all volunteers here who would strongly encourage you to consider that your donations (or lack of them) don't drive our responses. Moving on to your query, how are you switching off your media viewer? Is it through the "Preferences>Appearance>Enable Media Viewer" route? Alternatively, you can also disable the Media Viewer by adding mw.config.set("wgMediaViewerOnClick", false); to your global.js file. Hope this helps. Feel free to write back. Warmly. No, for example when the media viewer opens up, there is a gear with an option to disable it. Disabling it here is completely broken. I have a media viewer, actually, a number of them, with names like Chromium, Firefox, Chrome, eog, Edge, and Safari. I wish to use them as that's why I've installed them on my system. For WikiMedia to intentionally try to avoid that is, well, it's very rude indeed. With all due respect, I don't want to use their garbage media viewer. Moving on to the donation thing, donations or lack of them actually do drive responses, even for volunteers. It's a feedback cycle in which if the donations get too small, the site struggles to operate which means another site will overtake it. So lack of donations will in fact very much drive your response and other folks' response. The only thing at issue here is the magnitude of the difference. I'm sure if one person went to the trouble to voice their opinion, there are many others who didn't bother taking the time to let you know. Thank you very much for your time as a volunteer. I would appreciate any advice on where I could fix this media viewer problem. I understand this is open source, right? I'm a software engineer... Briang7723 (talk) 03:55, 24 August 2017 (UTC)

Hello again Brian, while I feel you don't understand the basic philosophy behind this project and its volunteers, you're free to support or not support Wikipedia's initiatives. As much as I understand your media viewer issue, I believe you basically wish to disable the media viewer. If that's the case, just follow the steps mentioned in my earlier reply. Thanks. C1 control character in |title= at position 31

I've just found a weird error message in a citation I created. [4] The cite is reporting an error C1 control character in |title= at position 31. I can't see what I've actually done wrong here. Anyone able to help? WCM_email 23:41, 23 August 2017 (UTC)
