Updates Removed by One the Heyman Pleas Guide What to Do or Should I Just Leave This
editI updated a profile information, but it was removed immediately. Please inform what to do in this case — Preceding unsigned comment added by Euroyousuf (talk • contribs) 01:46, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- Hi @Euroyousuf: Which edit are you referring to (which article did you edit). I would be happy to look into it. Have a nice day! Daylen (talk)
- Daylen thanks for altering the all caps. It was the edits that this person made to the Chowdhury (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) article that are in question. The name was unsourced and the edits were malformed. IMO they were trying to add someone they know to the list but I could be wrong. MarnetteD|Talk 04:42, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- It looked like they were trying to add themself (or a relative) to the article. --Orange Mike | Talk 04:52, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

editIt's totally a hack, as it's been on multiple computers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:647:4701:DA4:2CAC:714E:561D:F6ED (talk) 02:49, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

ref materials. Can i use?
editI recently came into ownership of 1000s of old books, magazines, and journals. Many have good references in regard to Wiki but most of these references are not findable on-line. But are great such as older versions of Time Magazine/ Newsweek etc. but too old for on-line. So here are my questions:
1. can I edit a Wiki article and use these as valid references? 2. If yes, please tell me how? My email is

defacing edits!
editThe editing of this wikipedia article- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_Indian_School is obnoxious. No point to edit it myself cause it will get trolled again. Please fix it if possible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.237.248.59 (talk) 06:18, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- I've reverted the recent vandalism. If it happens again drop us a line and I'll add some protection to the article. -- zzuuzz (talk) 08:25, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
Question on references
editI am new to Wiki and I tried to ask this question somewhere else. I have access to thousands of old magazine, books, etc that pre-exist the internet. Can these be uses as Wiki references even though they are not clickable? how do I do this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Formbearer (talk • contribs) 08:22, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- Hello, Formbearer. Yes, offline sources are completely OK; although, just as for online sources, you need to check their reliability before including them in support of a particular statement. You cite them the same way as you would cite online sources (except that you cannot give a link); take a look at Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners if you haven't already, and come back if you have any further questions. Changing an article title (4 years out of date)
editHi, The English-language University of Toulon entry still uses the old name, "University of the South, Toulon-Var", despite a number of users complaining about this over time. The university was renamed in 2013. The page needs to be renamed as "University of Toulon", but I do not believe I have the level of access to make that change. How is it done? Ideally, of course, the old name would then redirect to the new name. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PaulJCompton (talk • contribs) 09:43, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- @PaulJCompton: Article titles are changed by moving the page. Your account is old enough for this but I have moved University of the South, Toulon-Var to University of Toulon. The posts on the talk page were not noticed because the posters didn't use the procedures at Wikipedia:Requested moves. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:02, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- @PrimeHunter: Thanks, Prime! And now I know.
Wikipedia Page for Google, redirects towards trolling-group's website
editBy clicking anywhere on the Article tab on Google's Wikipedia page, you are redirected to gnaa.press, the site of the infamous GNAA trolling organisation. Previously it was stated that this was caused by the editing of the template, although I do not know how to reverse this. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google — Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.237.69.138 (talk) 13:12, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- The template {{Finance links}} was vandalised earlier today and put right again quickly. It is possible that the system has not yet got round to repairing all the affected articles. I have purged the Google article so it should be OK now. -- John of Reading (talk) 13:31, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
Edit count
editHi. There is a problem with my "edit count" page with every thing shown as "0". The link isthis. Please help in fixing it. RRD (talk) 14:29, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

Object animation.
editHi there. I am interested in animations like this one in Wikipedia[1] which is an animation of a human hand. There are thousands more, like chemical formulas, etc. What I really need is to design a somewhat modified bones for an artificial hand, eventually perhaps I will have 3-D coordinates for some of the bones, although I actually will begin with one bone only and present it as a 3-D animation. I hope my description makes sense and I want to know if it can be done. I clicked "Edit" on one of the animations to get some insight how you do it and saw a very long hexadecimal number. I suspect this is a result of hand tracking. Not applicable in my case. Any suggestions, please. Thank you, - --AboutFace 22 (talk) 14:37, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- It's an animated GIF file made with external software and then uploaded like other files. File:Scaphoid bone (left hand) - animation01.gif mentions the software used for this specific file. The link should have gone to Blender (software) (I have fixed this). It's also listed at Wikipedia:Graphics Lab and commons:Commons:Graphic Lab. You may be able to get help there. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:48, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
@PrimeHunter, thank you. You've helped me before. I appreciate it. --AboutFace 22 (talk) 15:08, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
Page rendering problems of Dinesh Lal Yadav
editI'm overlooking whatever is causing the problems. After tried a number of possibilities, the best I could do still leaves the table in the wrong position, and it incorporates the WikiCommons link into the table. --Ronz (talk) 15:41, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- Hello Ronz, I guess Trappist's resolved the issue. Thanks. Lourdes 16:29, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

Updated user interface in editing
editHi! I've been noticing a new user interface in the editing environment, particularly where edit summaries go. It now shows a count of available characters left, which is a great improvement! But there seem to be a few bugs with it, mainly that I can't see the text once it fills up the field and disappears into the right side, whereas the previous interface followed the text as I was writing. It's frustrating. I tried checking my "Preferences" panel, but found no suitable solution there. I hope I explained myself in an understandable way. Is anybody else experiencing this? LocalNet (talk) 17:33, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- Hi @LocalNet: What web browser are you using? I would be happy to file the bug on Phabricator, and have the devs look at it. Have a nice day! Daylen (talk) 17:43, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- Hey @Daylen: Google Chrome version 59.0.3071.115 (64-bit) on stable ("Official Build") version. Thanks! :) LocalNet (talk) 17:49, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- @LocalNet: I have created the bug report, which can be accessed at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T171077. Cheers, Daylen (talk) 18:01, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- I'm having the same problem. How can I return to the old interface until this is fixed? – Arms & Hearts (talk) 00:32, 20 July 2017 (UTC)
- I am also having the problem of not seeing characters after the box fills. I'm using Vivaldi browser version 1.10.867.48 running on Windows 10. Eddie Blick (talk) 01:31, 20 July 2017 (UTC)
Help Requested with COI editor who *just* doesn't get it
editNot sure where to ask, but I've got an admitted COI editor SVHwikieditor (States they are a member of the administration) who basically is rewriting Waldorf School of Baltimore. While the old version isn't great, the new one is unreferenced and NNPOV. I've posted to the person's talk page, but they just don't seem to care. Help would be appreciated.Naraht (talk) 17:35, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- @Naraht: I would recommend filing a report at the Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard. Have a nice day! Daylen (talk) 18:04, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- @Daylen: After I suggested bringing in a third party, she jumped to posting on WP:DRN. May be like shooting a mouse with a Bazooka, but at *worst* I think it will be moved to Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard.Naraht (talk) 18:18, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
Issue on the "The Walt Disney Company" page
editThat looks very strange, but I have a background link to gnaa.press on the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Walt_Disney_Company only withting the body of the article. Wrong Language used for Indian Military
editDear Writer,
Please mind the words you are using while writing a content, and do the correction at the earliest as stated below.
Indian militants killed 102 terrorist in first 7 months of year.
India do not have militants, so kindly change and put the right word.
Thanks in advance — Preceding unsigned comment added by KapilKumarIndian (talk • contribs) 19:40, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- I can not find this language in Indian Military article. Ruslik_Zero 20:32, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- The question is probably referring to 2017 in India (an exact string search finds the article). The statement has no source to begin with, but maybe someone more knowledgeable can look into this concern. GermanJoe (talk) 21:39, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- @KapilKumarIndian: We have five million articles. There is a reason the posting instructions say "Please give the exact title or URL of any page you want help with". The statement in 2017 in India was unsourced and used poor English. Based on sources like [2], "militants" and "terrorists" are both names used by India about the people they kill and not their own forces. I have removed the statement.[3] PrimeHunter (talk) 21:53, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

Problem with the Ankara Province infobox
editThe population number in the Ankara Province infobox are stuck. I looked in the history and it shows the 2010 population in 2007, even though the population in the code is from the 2000 census. Example from February 2007 https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ankara_Province&oldid=104864523
I tried to fix it, but I don't know how. ArcticDragonfly (talk) 19:41, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- The infobox uses Template:Metadata Population Turkish province which automatically fills in the population based on numbers from here. One would need to update that template with the current numbers and reference url: http://www.turkstat.gov.tr/PreHaberBultenleri.do?id=24638 seems to be the page for the 2016 stats. Copyvio tool isn't working
editThe search tool that I typically use for screening new articles for copy pastes - https://tools.wmflabs.org/copyvios/ - is returning a bad gateway error. Not familiar with who maintains this tool if someone could assist. Home Lander (talk) 21:32, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
