How to suppress the auto generated contents table

When ever a page has multiple headings a table of contents is produced in a gray box, is there any way to suppress the generation of that table of contents box? If so how? On a side note, the Help Desk and Teahouse seem like their primarily meant for new users, and this point I don't think I really fit into that category, unless being a new user is just having occasional questions, in which case I'll probably always be a "new user" :). If, my assertion the both the Teahouse and the Help Desk are meant to help new users, and I don't fit that category, is there a place for non-new users to ask questions? —The Editor's Apprentice (Talk•Edits) 00:23, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

You want the NOTOC command (no table of contents). Just type NOTOC in the search box and my redirect will take you to the relevant section. TimTempleton ^{(talk) (cont)} 00:27, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

Updating someone's name on their Wiki page

I'm a talent manager and am trying to edit the Wiki page of one of my clients -- Amber Frank.

She used to go by the stage name "Amber Montana" but now she goes by "Amber Frank". She is registered with the Screen Actors Guild as Amber Frank, and all of her recent film and tv credits over the past few years have her billed as Amber Frank. I'm trying to change her wiki page so that the title of the page says "Amber Frank" instead of "Amber Montanta" as well as change all mentions of "Montana" in the body of her wiki page to "Frank." When I try and make the changes to her name myself I get an error message from the site. I assume that you were the unregistered user who had their edits reverted on that article. Before you do anything else, you will need to review and comply with the conflict of interest policy and the paid editing policy(the latter is a Wikipedia Terms of Use requirement for those in your situation). I will also post this to your user talk page so you have a copy yourself.(update, someone beat me to it) Your edits were reverted because they just appeared to be someone changing the name for no reason. Since you have a conflict of interest, you should not edit the article about your client directly, but you are permitted to go to the article talk page(in this case, Talk:Amber Montana) and make a formal edit request(click that link to review how) explaining what you would like done. 331dot (talk) 00:58, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

I want to NGO operating in pakistan

I see this page is missing one of the NGO's operating in pakistan. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_non-governmental_organizations_in_Pakistan#K It does not show me any options to edit this page .

@Jaydoggmarco: I don't believe it is possible to change the attribution of the old stuff. But you can create a user page at User:Jaydogg1994 saying that you are the same user. —teb728 t c 09:19, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

@Jaydoggmarco: If you lost your password and could not recover it, there is nothing that can be done to rename your account(i.e. moving your "old" edits). To rename your account you have to be logged in to it to make the request. The only thing that you can do is as teb728 suggests- identify your new account as a successor to the old one. 331dot (talk) 10:08, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

It's good that you are pointing people to Wikipedia to find information! You are welcome to add to our article about Bhatkal provided that what you add is based on published information and does not just come from your own knowledge. Bad behavior

While Recent Changes Patrolling, I've seen certain incidences where users have flipped between accounts and IP addresses, to avoid scruntiny. Is there a technical term for this, and how do I report it? Anon. U. 14:14, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

There is no article about web shell on Wikipedia so i created a draft regarding web shell.

I am surprised that there isn't already one. And I talked to another Editor who was also surprised. I am here to ask for help to improve that article and I do believe that some of you will certainly help.

I have copied the most of the draft from a US government website https://www.us-cert.gov/ncas/alerts/TA15-314A I know that United States copyright law does permit re-use. But my problem is that it addresses the reader and offers opinions and advice. Can any willing editor help me to fix it ?

It seems to me that that is a primary source, Eatcha. Unless there are secondary sources discussing this, it will fail notability, and an article will not be possible, no matter how important the subject may be. --ColinFine (talk) 23:31, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

Why aren't the sections at this meta-wikimedia article collapsible?

I was reading the Community Engagement Insights Report and noticed that all of the sections for the Community Engagement Department were expanded and not collapsable. The "ill" template

According to Template:Interlanguage link, "{{ill|Hooglede town hall|nl|Gemeentehuis van Hooglede}}" gives "Hooglede town hall [nl]", with the words "Hooglede town hall" being an inter-language link. In fact it gives "Hooglede town hall", a redlink. It ought to link to nl:Gemeentehuis van Hooglede.

The interlanguage link is on the language code "nl". The lead of the documentation mentions this. It's intentional that the page name is a redlink to the English Wikipedia. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:25, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia search

The Wikipedia search function was never great, but it used to be usable. Now it has lost most of its functionality. For instance, if you wanted to search for a template, you could click the magnifying glass of the search box without filling in the search field, and get to a page where you could specify not only the search topic but what kind of page you wanted to search for, e.g. "template". That has all vanished. Fortunately, Google is still doing a great job, and when I tell it to search for "wiki ill template" it gives what I'm looking for as its first hit. But why has so much functionality been removed from Wikipedia's search function? Maproom (talk) 23:21, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

The magnifying glass takes me to Special:Search which has changed interface. I have an "Add namespaces" option which works. You can restore the old interface with "Don’t show the Advanced Search interface" at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-searchoptions. You can also search a specific namespace by prefixing it in the search box, e.g. template:example (capitalization doesn't matter). Many MediaWiki changes are intended to make it easier for novices. It sometimes makes it harder for power users, or they have to spend time learning a new interface. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:37, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

Down or blocked for GDPR reasons?

I'd like to cite this page, from the Lehigh County, Pennsylvania board of elections, in an article on the 2017 Allentown mayoral election. However I can't currently access the page: I see "Access Denied" and "Error code 16: This request was blocked by the security rules". Can a U.S.-based editor tell me whether they encounter the same error message? I'm not sure if this is an instance of a U.S. website blocking European IPs for reasons relating to GDPR compliance – usually I can get around that problem by using Google's cache but in this case that doesn't seem to work. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 23:34, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

I'm personally unsure why your able to access the page, it seems quite odd. Instead of trying to describe the page to you, I thought it might be easier to send you a link to a copy on the WebArchive[3], if you can't access that, I can get specific information for you if you have anything specific you're looking for. Thanks for the quick replies everyone. I can see the list of links to elections on the Wayback Machine version, but unfortunately when I click on the links the page gets stuck on "Working..." (with a little gif of what I assume is the county crest) and goes no further. The information I'm looking for – assuming it's there – is the results of the 2017 Allentown mayoral general election (under "Municipal Election - November 7, 2017") and the mayoral primary (or primaries – under "Municipal Primary – May 2017"). Without having seen the information I'm not sure what the best method to transfer it would be – a screenshot would be great but if the results are just a few lines of text they could perhaps be just as easily pasted here? – Arms & Hearts (talk) 00:40, 21 December 2018 (UTC)
