I am a manager and my client has found that he has a Wikipedia page which isn't published. I was wondering if you could help this process, as it is not possible to publish the page.

The page has been submitted and declined three times, and each time, the reasons were given. The last edit to the page (on August 25) removed the submittals and reasons, but did not fix the underlying problems, and the page has not been resubmitted. I suggest you check the page history to see all of this. If you or anyone in your organization intends to edit, please read and heed WP:PAID. We are happy to work with you if you adhere to our policies. The page gives the appearance of being created and developed by someone with a conflict of interest (WP:COI). That's quite alright as long as the COI is declared. Our "articles for creation" queue is backlogged, and all reviewers are volunteers who take on whatever the heck jobs attract their attention. Resubmitting a page that has been declined without first making a serious attempt to address the objections is likely to cause reviewers to ignore the article. -Arch dude (talk) 01:08, 23 September 2018 (UTC)

Hello, Publishthisprofile123. It might help you to understand how to work with Wikipedia if I point out a couple of misconceptions that I think are inherent in the words you use. Please understand that your client does not "have a Wikipedia page": nobody in the world has a Wikipedia page. Wikipedia has articles about many subjects - at present it has a draft article about your client. It also does not publish profiles of anybody - it publishes articles. If the draft article about your client is in time accepted, it still won't be his article: he and his associates will have no control over the contents (though he, and you, will be welcome to make suggestions for improving it), and the bulk of its content should be based not on what he says or does, still less on what he want to have written, but on what people who have no connection with him have chosen to publish about him, whether approving or critical. My points may seem picky, but as I say, I think it will help you avoid frustration to take them on board. --ColinFine (talk) 08:46, 23 September 2018 (UTC)

How to Properly Publish a Bio About Another Person

Hello. I am a writer/editor. Earlier this month, I edited the biography of a friend of many years - Christopher Mason Powell. To this end, I created an account named after him and created for him, with the agreement that I would turn it over to him after I submitted the article on Wikipedia for publishing consideration.

The first article submission was deleted; it was not referenced well. I discovered this I learned that Wikipedia accounts couldn’t be shared. My violation of this policy was innocent and I would like to remedy this if possible without Chris losing the ability to have the Christopher Masan Powell name for him. So my need for help is two-fold. First, I would like to create a new account for myself. Can this be done in a way that we don't risk losing the name? Second, I would like to submit the revised, referenced, article for consideration. Chris already appears in other Wikipedia articles on musician pages and has therefore been validated as a musician, songwriter, and producer, so I gather if there are no policy violations the article is publishable. If Christopher Mason Powell is noteworthy, then somebody who doesn't happen to know him will eventually create an article about him.

You say you are not Powell; and therefore your username violates policy here. Let's put that aside for a moment. You created a completely unsourced draft at User:Christopher Mason Powell. That's the wrong place, and your draft was very properly deleted. The right place -- for a user with no personal connection to Powell -- would be Draft:Christopher Mason Powell.

Back to the username violation. Please stop using this user ID. Create your own. (You can use your real name if you wish, although most people prefer not to.) You'd then be welcome to edit articles about people who aren't personal friends, and other matters about which you could write disinterestedly. Done.

The obvious way to have done it, Sister B, was to go to the article for Shân Legge-Bourke via the name in the above list, which was already a wikilink to it, copy an "â" from that article, and paste it into the list in place of the erroneous "a".

The easier way would have been to place the cursor in the section's edit window where the "â" was required, go to the bottom of the window and click the "insert" box's open arrow "∨", select "Latin" from the drop-down list, and click the "â" box which would have inserted an â where the cursor was.

This second method, of course, also works for the plethora of other accented letters, symbols, etc., etc. that are available via those drop-down arrays.

Freemake Video Converter : When was Logo added?

Hi,

According to Wikipedia, Freemake Video Converter, version 4.0.4.0 was the first to have a watermark logo at the end of videos lasting 5 mins or over.

Well, I tried an earlier version, 4.0.3.4 and this ALSO HAS the Watermark Logo!

My goal is to find the version produced immediately BEFORE the watermark Logo first appeared, ie, one whichaa DOES NOT have the watermark Logo?

As I say, Wikipedia believed version 4.0.4.0 was the first time the Watermark Logo was introduced, but it clearly was not! Does anyone know the true answer to this, please?

Help with fair use rationales

Hello, I hope this is the right place to post. I am writing an article for a noteworthy photograph (Draft:A Jewish boy surrenders in Warsaw) and the identity of its subject is unknown. Therefore there are a bunch of fair use images I'd like to add for the various people who might be the boy in the photo, for readers to compare. I know that I can't upload the images until I mainspace the article, but I'm not sure what the correct fair use tagging is. One of the images has been tagged and posted to Tsvi C. Nussbaum (one of the possibilities). Could someone tell me if the fair use tagging I used there is correct for this purpose? Thanks in advance! Catrìona (talk) 07:22, 23 September 2018 (UTC)

I fail to see how attaching images of other boys, so that the readers may guess which one of them (if any) this boy is, is the job of an encyclopedia. Anyway, it seems an impossible task, as the resolution (in the original, pre-digital sense) of this photo is so low. (A good way to judge whether people in photos are the same is to compare their ears. In this photo, one ear is little more than a mere smudge; the other isn't visible at all.)

Ideally, we'd say that WP should say that the boy was whoever reliable sources say he was, "reliable sources" being newspapers, etc. The problem is that on slow news days, ostensibly reliable newspapers have a habit of uncritically quoting this or that person who insists that they or their brother/uncle/whatever was the photographed person. This accounts for a lot of the content of, say, V-J Day in Times Square (and a lot of dreary argufying about it).

There are plenty of other additions that would be worthwhile. Where's the evidence that this is "The best-known photograph taken during the Warsaw Ghetto uprising"? Aside from its publication [if that's the right word] in Es gibt keinen jüdischen Wohnbezirk in Warschau mehr!, did it have any other Nazi use? How has it been republished and/or discussed after the fall of Nazism? Do we know anything about the photographer? And more. Thanks for your help. The problem is that despite being considered one of the best known images of World War II and the Holocaust (it was selected as one of Time Magazine's 100 photographs of all time [1] and said to represent all 6 million Jewish Holocaust victims[2]; even to the point of being extensively discussed by Holocaust deniers [3]), and two books having been written about the photograph, no definite identification of the boy has been made. The photographer is also not known for certain. Obviously the draft needs a lot of work, but the identity of the boy is something that is heavily discussed in the relevant literature. If fair use images are not appropriate to include in that discussion, I will not add them. Catrìona (talk) 10:49, 23 September 2018 (UTC)

I wrote my (perhaps somewhat crabby) comment above before looking at the article Tsvi C. Nussbaum. I there got the impression that there were three entire books about, or somehow based on, the photo. And also that Nussbaum didn't seem to have any notability (in en:WP terms) aside from the article. So even before you wrote your additional comment, I was going to return here to say: (i) yes an article seemed most worthwhile; (ii) such an article would render the article on Nussbaum unsustainable.

All I know about Nussbaum is what I read in that WP article. You may very well know more. But if (i) there's little or nothing more to know and (ii) the article you propose is successful, then I predict that the article on Nussbaum will be turned into a mere redirect. As it has an edit history, this seems a pity.

How about bringing into your draft everything from the article on Nussbaum that seems useful, expanding the draft until it's primarily about the photograph, replacing the content of the Nussbaum article with your draft, and then renaming ("moving") the article?

If these books and (denialist stuff aside) the sources you mention above discuss the identity of the boy, then that would indeed seem to be a good reason to bring in photographs of the contenders. I suppose that Template:Non-free use rationale would cover it. You'd need to answer, among others, "How does the media contribute significantly to the article(s) in which it is used?" This may be a lot easier to answer convincingly once the article is well developed: a photo of a person will seem a lot more appropriate (and less like mere decoration) once the description of that person's identity and claims to being the boy photographed are carefully done. -- Hoary (talk) 11:20, 23 September 2018 (UTC)

Hoary's main point is that Tsvi C. Nussbaum is notable only for the photograph, so there should be only one article. I agree, and that's our guideline (WP:1E). The easiest way to do this is probably to massively rework the existing article to insert information from your draft, and then rename ("move") it to your new name. This preserves the article history without a lot of hassle. You might want to discuss your approach, whatever it is, on the talk page of that article. "Fair use" rationales will then become easier after the article in in place. -Arch dude (talk) 15:30, 23 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi there. This is a sorta-experienced editor. I need help with Userbox placements in userpages. When I have Userbox categories and page sections, the userboxes overlap with the sections instead of lining up under the section header. Can someone explain and find a way to fix this for me? My name is John Goodsall and i tried to add some current info to the Wiki page about me. I followed the 'ADD LINK' instructions but this is what displayed James Bracken 1 and Brand X 2. 2 should read [[Brand X] and link to a Wikipedia page of my music group Brand X <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brand_X> 1 should read James Bracken and link to <https://www.facebook.com/jamesbrackenmusic/>. @John Goodsall: You should not edit that article directly as you have a conflict of interest (WP:COI). Instead, make suggestions on the article's talk page. In this case we kill two birds with one stone, as another editor can also do all the fiddly stuff while making the edit. Another issue is that any editor who gets rewarded would need to declare this under the WP:PAID policy, and would then also have to avoid direct edit to the article. Therefore, while your offer is surely appreciated, it's probably not a good idea. -Arch dude (talk) 15:40, 23 September 2018 (UTC)

Editing the "Urmetazoan" page to include photographs

I would like to update and add photos to the Urmetazoan page, but should probably talk to someone first. They are not hypothetical, but the fossils are unlike anything seen to date. Complete Body Fossils (CBF's) are real, but I am the first to discover their existence, and I am having trouble finding an expert with an open mind. These are not a pile of bones, these are complete bodies that have survived the fossilization process. Most of the fossils have been altered beyond a true ID, but several were lucky enough to survive the +/- 500 million years until I found them on family property up in Montana. If it works out that I can update the Urme page, I have other important fossils that will make your site a go-to spot for fossils hunters interested in Cambrian and Pre-Cambrian fossils, and I have a very special turtle fossil in it's shell, that: A. is over 300 million years old, and B. shows how the turtle got it's shell.

Add another to One Hit Wonders List for 1960's

Do not want to be a publisher or an editor to Wikipedia. I have contributed cash before but have no interest in editing an article. However, please add the following for the "One Hit Wonders" list:

"Sugar Shack" by Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs, number 1 hit of 1963 from the Billboard ratings. This song appeared in several 1960 one hit wonder lists back in it's day. That comment by me immediately above is wrong-headed: whether the group had any other hits is by the way; what matters is whether they are perceived as having had any other hits.
