editDisambiguation needed
editHow to disambiguate: Dolia is a village in India. It is also the plural of dolium (earthenware jar from Ancient Rome). Searching for dolia doesn't reveal dolium on Wikipedia. Thanks in advance for your attention. 2603:6081:1C00:1187:3126:540A:D85A:8430 (talk) 02:51, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
- It's likely that anyone searching for the string "dolia" is more likely to be looking for the village over the object, so maybe stick an {{about}} hatnote over on Dolia that redirects to dolium? —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 🎄Happy Holidays!⛄ 03:03, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
- This anyone searched for "dolia" (object) prompted by this interesting article:[1] -- which prompted me to add info to the Thermopolium article (where I found an un-linked "dolia"). 2603:6081:1C00:1187:F8FB:AF06:80D9:8EC7 (talk) 07:19, 27 December 2020 (UTC) (dynamic IP) ... And thank you, Tenryuu!
- I've gone ahead and applied it. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 🎄Happy Holidays!⛄ 03:22, 27 December 2020 (UTC)

How to publish an article
editHi there! I'd like to publish this article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Artur_Aleksanyan,_Artyusha I saw that until I don't have an access to publish it by myself, I need to add a code and the publication will be discussed with the other users. Can you help me and look through if I did it right? I need to publish it as soon as possible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hasmik Yasna (talk • contribs) 09:34, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
- You have added a tag requesting that Draft:Artur Aleksanyan, Artyusha be moved to article space. What you should have done is request that it be reviewed. But it will certainly be declined if reviewed, as it fails to supply any evidence (in the form of references to reliable independent sources that discuss him) that Aleksanyan is notable.
- What is the urgency? Wikipedia has no deadline.
- What is the ", Artyusha" appended to the title? Is it part of his name? Or an honorific? It needs explanation, and probably, removal from the title. Maproom (talk) 09:51, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Hasmik Yasna, I've added the appropriate template - so you can just click on submit draft for review whenever you think it's ready (which will be after you've added some inline references). --Paul ❬talk❭ 11:41, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hasmik Yasna, You should read Your first article, as there is a lot to know in order to succeed with a new article on Wikipedia. Be sure to note that, if your material is not published somewhere publicly, then it cannot be included in the article.--Quisqualis (talk) 05:36, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
- (talk)Artyusha is his patronymic, that's why it's there. Regarding the resource, it's only in Armenian language, that's why I mentioned it in armenian. I can translate it in English, but the book doesn't exist in this language. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hasmik Yasna (talk • contribs) 07:41, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hasmik Yasna, it's not a problem if something is in Armenian. The worst problem is if your sources are not independent, published, reliable sources.--Quisqualis (talk) 20:41, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
- Paul I can't find any templates or updates, can you assist me, please? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hasmik Yasna (talk • contribs) 08:11, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Hasmik Yasna You haven't told us what the urgency is here. 331dot (talk) 08:19, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
- Just click the long blue button "submit this draft for review" when you are ready to submit your article. There is no immediate need for "templates or updates".--Quisqualis (talk) 20:41, 28 December 2020 (UTC)

Help making edits
editHello, it seems that I need help making edits. Can someone assist? Zenzes (talk) 12:35, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
For context, I tried to make this edit (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Great_Barrier_Reef#Semi-protected_edit_request_on_27_December_2020) at Great Barrier Reef. Do I have to wait to edit or verify my email or identity as a new user? Zenzes (talk) 12:37, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
- Zenzes, you've successfully made the edit request, so now just wait a bit and it'll be answered. {{u|Sdkb}} talk 12:47, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
Right, ok. Makes sense to me now. Do I have to do this for all of my edits? How long does this last for? Zenzes (talk) 12:57, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hello, Zenzes, and welcome to the Teahouse. No: most articles are not protected, and anybody can edit them. Most articles which have some protection are only semi-protected, and once you have had your account four full days and made at least ten edits, you will be able to edit them directly. Articles usually get protected when either they have been subject to a high level of vandalism, or they are contentious subjects. If an article you want to make changes to is a contentious one, it is probably a good idea to discuss it on the talk page first anyway; but otherwise you can apply your edits directly. Of course, another editor might disagree with an edit, and revert it; then you can have a discussion: see BRD. --ColinFine (talk) 16:16, 27 December 2020 (UTC)

Help
editHow to change font color and size? Dineshswamiin (talk) 13:08, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Dineshswamiin: Help:Using_colours covers this at length. Victor Schmidt (talk) 13:54, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
- Size changes are not usally done manually. Titles are automatically a bit bigger by default. DO you have a particular case in mind? Victor Schmidt (talk) 13:56, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
Converting eighteenth-century English "pounds" to modern money
editIn an article I created on Archibald Spencer I say, Spencer's charge for attending his course was expensive, £6, but was popular nevertheless. What would 6 pounds sterling be in modern money in the states? Is there a conversion template I could use? --Doug Coldwell (talk) 13:31, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
- {{Inflation}} can do some of this:
£6 in 1743, equivalent to £1,262 in 2023
, but that template's documentation says there is no template for conversion between currencies. -- John of Reading (talk) 13:42, 27 December 2020 (UTC)- Thanks. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 15:32, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
Image Size
editCourtesy link: User:SenatorLEVI/Aipan Art
Hello once again. Can anyone help me change the size of an image in the given page above and align it to the right? Preferably 200-250 pixels. Thanks. SenatorLEVI (talk) 13:35, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
- @SenatorLEVI: Done. In this case I decided to use the |thumb option, rather than using a static image size, because this allows the server (respectively, the browser) resize the image to not overflow the viewport on mobile devices with tiny viewport widths. Victor Schmidt (talk) 13:53, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you very much. SenatorLEVI (talk) 03:41, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
Your article on Gary Webb (investigative journalist.
editGary Webb did not ‘commit’ suicide. He died by or from suicide. You commit fraud, murder, etc. One dies by or from suicide, that is the correct terminology. Please correct your article as it is locked for editing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 105.226.138.17 (talk) 14:21, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
- Done for the lead of the article: elsewhere it had "died by" already. There are categories for various "commit suicide" which I can't alter without consensus. Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:49, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Michael D. Turnbull: The IPs claim of "that is the correct terminology" is not necessarily accurate. The terminology is the subject of significant debate, both here, and elsewhere. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 16:00, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
- Fixed a ping. --CiaPan (talk) 16:12, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
- I agree it is debatable, AlanM1. I took a look at the Cambridge dictionary, which points out [the phrase] "is now considered offensive because it suggests that doing this is a crime". Since the article in question had the words "died by" everywhere else except the lead, I didn't think it was unreasonable to make the alteration in this case. The source is in French, so I am not certain of this. If you can show that the source does not confirm the assertions in the article, then make your request again, but do it on the article's talk page and explicitly state that the source does not support these assertions, and add
{{request edit}}
there. If you have an alternate reliable source that contradicts the cited source, we will not remove the material, but we will add the additional source's contradiction of the material. -Arch dude (talk) 17:53, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
Editing a template
editI noticed that {{Non-free_Microsoft_screenshot}} has a typo. It says "the following four requirements" but then only lists three. I have never edited a template before. Is it as simple as clicking the "edit" button and changing the text? The template talk page has no messages since 2015, so asking here. RudolfRed (talk) 23:23, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
- I had a look at the external link on that page which is linked to from "Requirements for allowed uses" (here), and that webpage does have four requirements - the one missing from the template is 'You must include the following statement: "Used with permission from Microsoft."' The template never seems to have actually included that fourth requirement, so I'm not sure what's going on there? Seagull123 Φ 23:30, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
- Wait... I misread that page. The missing requirement on the template is actually the one on Microsoft's webpage under the subheading of "Link methods", about how to link to Microsoft content. Seagull123 Φ 23:38, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
