Posting a created page so it is live and on wikipedia ?

edit

I have created a page but cannot see it on Wikipedia ? Why is this. This is my first page I have created. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MOGADON1 (talkcontribs) 08:53, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

MOGADON1 You edited your user page, which is not article space, but a place for you to introduce yourself to the Wikipedia community in the context of your Wikipedia use. As it is not article space, it does not appears in searches of Wikipedia(unless you put "User:" at the start when searching) and is not indexed by search engines. New users cannot directly create articles; you will need to use Articles for Creation to create and submit a draft for review before it is formally placed in the encyclopedia. What you wrote on your user page, however, would not be accepted, as it reads as a how-to guide and not an encyclopedia article. Encyclopedia articles should only summarize what independent reliable sources state about a subject. Successfully creating a new article is the absolute hardest task to perform on Wikipedia, and it is recommended that you either gain experience editing existing articles first, to get a feel for how Wikipedia operates, or at least read Your First Article and use the new user tutorial before attempting to create an article. 331dot (talk) 09:04, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If you really believe that this Moynihan Scheme has encyclopedic significance (which is independent of whether it's beneficial), and if you are not personally connected to it, then follow 331dot's advice. If on the other hand you are connected -- perhaps you work, or a member of your family works, for a/the company responsible -- then please read and digest Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. (The latter in a nutshell: Do not attempt to create an article.) -- Hoary (talk) 09:12, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

'Would like to ask how to edit a Section Title inserted in another Section's content.

In particular, the page mentioned has a section for: "Concerts" with sub-heading for "Solo Concerts" and "Affiliated Concerts" . The title of the next section, "Accolades" is visible under "Affiliated Concerts"...but checking the codes..the codes were arranged logically.

Please help!

Thank you!

Vita isaac (talk) 09:55, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Vita isaac: The page looks correct to me with section 6 'Concerts' with two sub-sections and then section 7 'Accolades'. Not sure from your question what you were trying to do. If the page appears wrong to you, please clarify. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 10:23, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Vita isaac: Spotted what yopu mean; there was a table closing written as |-} and not |} as it should be. I have fixed that. Please check the page to see if it now appears correctly to you as well. Eagleash (talk) 10:43, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Eagleash: Thank you! Just checked the page and yes, the order is now correct! Thanks so much again.Vita isaac (talk) 12:41, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Profile and User Rights

edit

I have successfully edited more than ten times and my account has been created more than four days. How should I know if I have been granted to be an autoconfirmed user or not? Is there a profile page for users information including rights and level of membership? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kymberlyclementsa (talkcontribs) 10:31, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Kymberlyclementsa: Click 'preferences' at the top of any page. Under basic information, check 'member of groups'. (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~. Or, you can use the [ reply ] button, which automatically signs posts.) Thank you. Vilnius Academy of Arts

edit

Hello, I was currently editing information about Vilnius Academy of Arts (in Lithuanian) in wikipedia. I wanted to put "history" and other important information about Academy from it's official webpage www.vda.lt, however, it seems I don't know how to do it correctly. First time my edit was rejected, second time i was blocked by user Homo ergaster. Could you please unblock me and please tell me what I am doing wrong so I wouldn't happen again? Most of information on Vilnius Academy of Arts pages in wikipedia is old so I want to renew it as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

I look forward for your reply! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bastille~ltwiki (talkcontribs) 12:43, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Bastille~ltwiki: The English Wikipedia page Vilnius Academy of Arts hasn't been edited since last year, so I think you are probably referring to activity on the Lithuanian Wikipedia. Each Wikipedia is a separate project, with it's own rules, administrators, etc., so any issues you may have would need to be addressed at their help desk (I can't read Lithuanian, so I can't provide a link for you – it should be named similarly to this help desk, though). —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 12:53, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like the Lithuanian help desk is here, although it doesn't look particularly active (only one question in 2020). Joseph2302 (talk) 12:57, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Joseph. @Bastille~ltwiki: It looks like you are blocked for a week, so you can wait until the block expires, or you may be able to post a message to your talk page (lt:Naudotojo aptarimas:Bastille~ltwiki). Include a link to the admin that blocked you, like [[Naudotojas:Homo ergaster]]: Please unblock me because .... I hope this helps. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 13:08, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Bastille~ltwiki Looks like you were blocked there for copyright violations. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:13, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

List of Teochew people

edit

List of Teochew people: The person who found Huy Fong Food is of Teochew decent. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/87/Huy_Fong_Foods_logo.gif — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2607:FEA8:E380:364:E87E:8FBA:BC2F:D9C6 (talk) 14:18, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, IP user. You are welcome to add Tran to that list, if two conditions are satisfied:
  1. you can find suitable (reliable, independent) sources to show that Tran meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability;
  2. you can find a reliable published source that says that he is Teochew.
If you cannot find those, then he should not be added. (Actually, hardly any of the entries in that list are sourced, and in the couple of cases where I have looked at the article about them, that does not mention that they are Teochew. As the notice says at the top, that List article has multiple issues. Please don't add to them). --ColinFine (talk) 16:04, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Removing the 'background information pane. EARL OKIN

edit

Everything seems to be editable EXCEPT something called a 'background information' pane. On the page about me, (EARL OKIN) everything in the article itself is correct, but that pane includes a dreadful picture of me AND an incorrect website link. How can I edit the pane or, better still, delete it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Earl Okin (talkcontribs) 15:54, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Earl Okin. Thank you for not editing the article directly: people are strongly advised not to edit articles about themselves (or subjects they are closely connected with), but instead to make an edit request on the article's talk page.
That box is called an Infobox, and if you do open the article for editing, you'll see that right at the top of the article it says {{Infobox musical artist . That is where the information in that pane is held.
I have just edited it to change the website. As for the picture: the only other picture currently usable (because it has already been uploaded to Wikimedia commons) is File:2014 02 16 Earl Orkin TwickFolk.JPG (yes, the filename has your name wrong, but that doesn't get displayed anywhere. Click the link to see the actual image). If you wanted to change to show that one, that is easily done. If you want a different picture, you can upload it provided the copyright holder - who is probably not you - specifically licenses it in a way that anybody can reuse it for any purpose: that is a requirement for images used on Wikipedia. If you have such an image, come back and ask again, and we'll see if we can sort you out. I remember you standing up for non-corporate comedians at the Fringe Business Meeting years ago)--ColinFine (talk) 16:19, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with edit box in source mode?

edit

What it is, is when I'm editing in source mode and then preview, having previewed, the editing box becomes weird—the "> Cite" tab disappears completely, and the rest is unresponsive (e.g. impossible to use any special characters). I think this has only been happening for a couple of days, although I might've just not noticed. See image---> for what I see. Thanks for any help all. Stay safe. ——SN54129 16:11, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

PS: Just tested it here, and it seems OK. Is it just article space, I wonder? ——SN54129 16:11, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That doesn't look like "show preview" that's "show changes". It doesn't happen with my editor. Try clicking on "Special characters" it might get removed. Or you can go to Preferences->beta features and enable "New wikitext mode" which is much better than the original editor (you can read about it here). You can also ask your question in WP:Village pump (technical) where there are editors who are experts in these things .--SharʿabSalam▼ (talk) 18:28, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How to change redirect that has {{R from merge}}

edit

I'd like to change Charge Sheet, which is currently a redirect to Chargesheet (film), to redirect to Chargesheet which has header at the top for the film, but the redirect has {{R from merge}} on from a past merge that created the redirect. Do I just leave the template or put a message above it that the redirect has been changed? (Alternately I could put a heading on the film's article that points to Chargesheet.) Thank you. April Fools' and RMs

edit

Although I normally wouldn't do this, but on April Fools' Day, am I allowed to make an RM and tag it with Template:Humor? For example, would I allowed to propose a move from Earth to Mars as long as I tagged it with the template I mentioned? I read WP:FOOLS, but it is not entirely clear on whether it is allowed or not. It only talks about AfDs. Interstellarity (talk) 20:48, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There's many views on April Fool's, but WP:APRILFOOLS says don't disrupt article space, so probably no. If you do, it'll get speedy closed or deleted anyway. Joseph2302 (talk) 21:16, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Interstellarity, I think proposing a move from Earth to Mars is clever, and is only a problem if someone actually does it, which is very unlikely. S Philbrick(Talk) 22:01, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Sphilbrick: That is good :P - FlightTime Phone (open channel) 23:00, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Joseph2302 and Sphilbrick: Based on what you said, would it not be allowed? Interstellarity (talk) 22:51, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Interstellarity, I am sure there are some wet blankets who would remove it on sight, but I'm not one of them. S Philbrick(Talk) 23:38, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Sphilbrick: I won't do it when April Fools' comes. It's probably not worth doing. Interstellarity (talk) 00:06, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
