If you'd like to make a suggestion for an article, please make it in the talk page of that article. @Heffer2005: Note that IMDB and other sites like it that are user-contributed without professional editorial oversight are not considered to be reliable sources. Also, there are probably lots of cameo roles in which musicians, and other people who are not primarily actors, appear that are not listed in our filmogs. There seems to be a general trend among editors (I think) towards making filmogs more of a selection of significant works, not an exhaustive list of every appearance. This is particularly necessary because of the lack of reliable sources to cite those less-significant works. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 00:24, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

Citing different articles/titles from the same journal

It's possible to cite different pages from the same source.
How do I do this for different articles or titles from the same journal? Even if it's not necessary and I can just use the page method, leaving the title blank would trigger a 'Missing or empty |title=' error, like this. Hi PianistHere. {{Cite journal}} is used to cite a specific paper in a journal, which is why requires both title= (the article) and journal=. I would recommend using a different CS1 template: {{cite encyclopedia}} can be used for collections of multiple articles that aren't journals, and for the specific example source above, {{cite report}} seems to be the most appropriate. You can then add the section name or page number with the {{rp}} or {{sfn}} templates like so: or like so. If you have to cite multiple articles in the same issue of a journal and not multiple sections or pages in an article, I'd just duplicate the reference completely. Chinese lunar calendar festivals

Chinese lunar calendar festivals China is the most popular country in the world and has many amazing festivals. I will be telling you about the main chinese festivals that you can go and see for yourself. They are amazing! What is Chinese new year? Chinese new year is a celebration where they celebrate, you guessed it, new year. In chinese new year they celebrate with costume dragons and instruments. Chinese new year is held on the 12th feb every year because on the lunar calendar 12th feb is new year. A lunar calendar is a calendar based on the monthly cycles of the Moon's phases (synodic months), in contrast to solar calendars, whose annual cycles are based only directly on the solar year. The last chinese new year day is on the 26th of feb and is otherwise known as the lantern festival. Background Chinese new year is held on the first day of the year on the lunar calendar and on our calendar it's held on the 12th feb. The origin of the Chinese new year dates back to the Shang Dynasty (17th–11th century BC). Shang Dynasty: the imperial (royal) dynasty (a family full of strong imperial leaders) ruling china from about the 18th-12th centuries BC. It began as the result of a fight against the monster named Nian (a monster that liked to eat children). Nian appeared at the end of every year and people set off firecrackers to get rid of it. Gradually, the custom of expelling the monster on the last day of the year became an annual festival and it is still celebrated every year. The last day of Chinese New Year is a special celebration called the Lantern Festival. This festival first came about during the Han Dynasty. Lanterns were lit in honor of Buddha. Other traditions on this day include guessing riddles (which began during the Song Dynasty), eating rice dumplings, the lion dance, and the dragon dance. Dragon Boat Festival falls on month 5 day 5 of the Chinese lunar calendar (around mid-June). During this traditional festival in China, people customarily eat rice dumplings. The Dragon Boat Festival dates all the way back to the Warring States Period of the Zhou Dynasty. Legend has it that a famous poet named Qu Yuan killed himself on this day by jumping into a river when he learned that his homeland had been conquered. A dragon boat is a boat that is shaped like a dragon and has a costume dragon in it and it has drummers and someone steering and is typically used in a chinese festival. This festival takes place on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. Traditions on this day include dragon boat racing, eating rice dumplings called zongzi, and wearing a perfume pouch to ward off evil spirits. Costumes and props Dragons are a commonly used costume in chinese new year because of the dragon dance. The dragon dance is is a form of traditional dance and performance in Chinese culture. It is most often seen in festive celebrations. The dance is performed by a team of experienced dancers who manipulate a long flexible figure of a dragon using poles positioned at regular intervals along the length of the dragon. The dance team simulates the imagined movements of this river spirit in a sinuous, undulating manner. They also often use lion costumes in chinese new year because it is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture and other Asian countries in which performers mimic a lion's movements in a lion costume to bring good luck and fortune. The lion dance is usually performed during the Chinese New Year and other Chinese traditional, cultural and religious festivals. It may also be performed at important occasions such as business opening events, special celebrations or wedding ceremonies, or may be used to honour special guests by the Chinese communities. In the Dragon Boat Festival they do a dragon boat race that is approximately 1,500 feet long. In the Chinese new year and the lantern festival they play the drums. In the Chinese new year and the lantern festival They dress up as dragons because it is a religious thing. In the Lantern festival they throw lanterns up in the sky and they seem as if they can fly and it fills the sky! The lantern festival Food Vegetables are commonly used in chinese cultural festivals because they sound like “money” in chinese language. People in northern China typically will eat dumplings (jiaozi) on New Year's Eve. This occurs because 'jiaozi' sounds like a word meaning 'bidding farewell to the old and ushering in the new.' in Chinese. Dumplings are always made before midnight and eaten during the last hour of the old year and the first hour of the Lunar New Year. Some people like to wrap a one-yuan, fifty-cent or ten-cent coin in some of the dumplings, as a token of good fortune for those who eat them. This is said to ensure good luck and prosperity in the New Year. Southern China produces rice, so traditionally the southern Chinese usually eat Niangao (rice cakes) to celebrate the New Year. This belief derives from the Chinese pronunciation of rice cake as 'niangao', a homophone for a word meaning a higher level of life. Niangao is made of glutinous rice powder and can be cooked by frying, steaming, stir-frying or boiling. With the development of the social culture, eating Niangao is also popular now among some people in north China during the Chinese New Year. Fish, usually of a local variety, is an important item on the dinning table of thousands of families on the eve of the Chinese New Year. Fish is pronounced 'yu' in Chinese, with the implications of having more than just a basic need each year. It is also a present exchanged between relatives and friends during the Chinese New Year. In southern China, some people just eat the middle part of the fish on the New Year Eve, leaving the head and tail until the next day to symbolize completeness. Meanwhile, it is particularly important that when fish is placed on the dining table, its head must be at the elders, as a sign of respect. Conclusion Hopefully now you know about how important festivals are to the chinese people. Also the festivals aren’t something you want to miss.

As GoingBatty points out, Wikipedia already has an article on Chinese New Year. And it avoids (and will delete) additional articles on any given subject: See Wikipedia:Content forking. ¶ Additionally, you have to write with a high signal to noise ratio. Sample:

"What is Chinese new year? Chinese new year is a celebration where they celebrate, you guessed it, new year. In chinese new year they celebrate with costume dragons and instruments."

This says nothing more than

"Chinese new year is celebrated with costume dragons and instruments."

In this series of edits you added awards to the page about somebody. Princepratap1234 removed mention of them as "unnotable". I don't claim to know anything about them (though I do know that there are many awards and that most aren't notable). If these are notable, perhaps you could create articles about them. A very active user with privileges over me, is going to delete again a page about a legal political party which I had recently restored

A very active user, called Ontzak, with privileges over me, is going to delete again a page about a legal political party in Puerto Rico, called "Movimiento de Reunificación de Puerto Rico con España", which I had recently restored. I found today, May 22nd 2020, that this page had been deleted previously by another user called Antur arguing the reason A4, irrelevant article. Then, I just restored the page arguing that the page wasn't irrelevant as my sole action proves, but then again, the user Ontzak, which appearently happens to be an antispanish basque secessionist, has claim criterion G9 to delete again the page of this legal political party because, according to Ontzak, this page doesn't meet the minimal criteria to stay in Wikipedia. I would like to know which are those criteria as I find both actions of deletion to be motivated by ideological reasons. I would like some impartial administrator to read this and, if case, reduce privileges to these users which, in my opinion are abusing of their rights and are distorting the impartiality of Wikipedia. Himno Anonimo Your edit history indicates no edits to any such article(perhaps your edits were to the Spanish Wikipedia, a different project?)- but the mere existence of any organization does not merit that organization a Wikipedia article, it must meet the special Wikipedia definition of a notable organization, as shown with significant coverage in independent reliable sources. 331dot (talk) 10:10, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

enwiki does not have a current deletion criterion A4, and criterion G9 is rarely used, so it does seem likely that this refers to eswiki, not to enwiki. --David Biddulph (talk) 18:18, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

Kennedy of Knocknalling Genealogy

I have a copy of a genealogy published in 1883 titled Kennedy, Knocknalling Branch, 1142-1083. It was prepared by J Douglas Kennedy, Scarthwaite, Lancaster, 1884 It is about 30 pages long. Is this something suitable for Wikipedia and if it is, how would it be added?

@Jerry2318: You can add it at Wikisource. As a separate issue, the next question is whether or not it constitutes a "reliable source" that you can cite at Wikipedia. A work of this type if published today would be a "vanity" publication. At the time it was probably published "by subscription". Go on over to the Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard to ask about this. @Jerry2318: The actual process is to scan it and add it to Wikimedia Commons as a djvu file. Commons is used by all Wikisource and Wikipedia projects. After going to that effort, you can in theory then cite the commons file directly from Wikipedia articles, but a small amount of extra effort of adding it to Wikisource will make it much more usable. You would then cite the Wikisource instead of the djvu at Commons. -Arch dude (talk) 17:20, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

Looking at your edits to Winthrop University, you changed the formatting of section titles to all caps, which goes against Wikipedia's Manual of Style and the change was therefore reverted and you added one person to the Alumni section for which no article exists and without providing a reliable source and this was also reverted, as there is no evidence of notability. @Rhkyley5: There are multiple links to 'get you started' in the welcome message at your talk page; please study those carefully. Please note, lists of alumni etc. should only contain persons who are the subject of Wikipedia articles; I.e. are notable in the Wikipedia sense and should typically be supported by independent, reliable sources. Biographical articles such as the one you created for Paul Vicknair will not be accepted into the encyclopedia without sourcing. Eagleash (talk) 15:23, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

Link to an image; but don't display it

What's the wikitext markup or template to place a link to an image page without displaying the image? Like, if you wanted to link to a fair-use image with a particularly good rationale on a talk page to demonstrate how to craft a fair-use rationale? Talk page of Tara Reade

There was an AfD for Tara Reade which decided to merge it into Joe Biden sexual assault allegation. Talk:Joe Biden sexual assault allegation now has a notice which says:

The contents of the Tara Reade page were merged into Joe Biden sexual assault allegation on 17 May 2020. For the contribution history and old versions of the redirected page, please see its history; for the discussion at that location, see its talk page.

However, Talk:Tara Reade redirects to this page, so it is unclear if any content from the talk page was lost. I'm not sure what should be done about this, but I think at least there should be a link to the Afd on a relevant talk page.—Naddruf (talk ~ contribs) 20:23, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

@Naddruf: Generally the best person to ask about an AfD close is the AfD closer, in this case Black Kite. If you ask them at Talk:Joe Biden sexual assault allegation you can include the links you are asking about. I would expect the merger notice to be corrected once the deletion review is concluded (and if it weren't corrected you could ask the deletion review closer). Where to report a user with multiple accounts?

Find edits in history page by edit summary

Is there a tool that allows you to find edits in a history page by edit summary?--SharʿabSalam▼ (talk) 23:28, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

@SharabSalam: The best thing I can think of is to click the "View history" and then use your browser's find feature (e.g. CTRL-F in Google Chrome) to search the edit summaries. If that doesn't find the edit, you can click "500" to show the last 500 edits instead of the default 50 and try finding again. If that doesn't work, you can click "older 500" or change the number in the URL from "limit=500" to "limit=1000", and keep going from there. Happy hunting! GoingBatty (talk) 01:13, 23 May 2020 (UTC)
