I had never heard of Leif Garrett so I looked at the article. The caption says it is a 2017 picture. Three years for a man of that age is not "very old." Surely it is not wikipedia's job to be flattering but to be as accurate as the sources available allow? Actually a very old pic of Leif Garrett would be more flattering, and more representative, as he was a "teen idol". The couple of images that show up in a google search for CC-BY-SA are -NC and cannot be used. Chrome browser on Windows has Google Translate built-in. Look for the "G" logo at the right-hand end of the address bar (for me, it's next to the star for "bookmark this tab"). Click/tap that and you should get the option to switch between Italian and English. See [1]. Ending a section title with a quotation mark

Could you please fix the "IT Professional" link from the "List of IEEE publications" webpage?: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_IEEE_publications

When hovering over "IT Professional" you can see the URL is supposed to be: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IT_Professional_(magazine)

However, currently, when you click on it there is a redirect to the "List of IEEE publications" webpage.

For an example of how this link should work, please see the rest of the publications links on "List of IEEE publications".

hello, I am sorry to be so useless but I want to add a name to the list of recipients of the Military Cross. My grandfather Major Frank Bullivant RA was awarded the Military Cross in Normandy in July 1944 supporting the Canadian Light Infantry at Buron. He was then awarded a bar to his military cross in 1945 for frequent acts of bravery and leadership in France and Belgium. I have copies of his recommendations from the national archives. @Stonetribe: almost all lists on Wikipedia are actually lists of articles that already exist on Wikipedia. Each entry on the list of Military Cross recipients links to the associated article. To add Major Bullivant, we need an article first. But an article must be about a subject that meets our definition for notability. Is your friend notable per Wikipedia's standards, and are you willing to declare a conflict of interest? (Courtesy link: Ryan Farquhar) Hello Ryan. As you may or may not know, subjects of articles are discouraged from editing their own articles directly, because of our concerns with their inevitable Conflict of interest.
The best way to go about this is for you to go to the Talk page for the article, click on the "New section" tab at the top, enter a Subject/headline title such as "Requested changes", and then type in the text section a list of what bits of text you would like:
changed, in the form of "Change Xxxx xxx xxx" to "Yyyy yyy yyy";
or removed without substitution;
or added.
For each change, subtraction or addition we need a published source for the information involved, so that a citation to the source can be created that any reader can (at least in theory) check for themselves. These might be newspaper or magazine articles, passages in books, etc., and we need the publication's title, date, the page the information appears on, the author or writer (where known); in short, anything that would help someone to find the source in, say, a good public library. (Links to the information online are useful, but not a requirement.)
For some uncontrovertial facts, we might include information from a subject's official website or similar. We insist on published information only, because of the risk of mischievious persons trying to add false information – such attempts happen all the time, and actually we don't know that you – "2A00:23C7:F914:9801:257B:D1C4:C8DB:F2BA" – are really Ryan Farquhar, although I'm presuming you are.

A quick look at the history of the article shows over 200 edits by many people in the past six months, so it is not just an individual who has written it. Urgent change to Daniel Sachs article/alias

Today I published an english article on my employer, a Swedish Business leader Daniel Sachs. However, when searching for "Daniel Sachs" in English, I am redirected to Demonology 101, as "Daniel Sachs" has been used as an alias to this page. I have now written on the Demonology 101 Article discussion and tried to remove the alias with edits, and still this problem is occuring. Could you fix this?

@Rosenmås: Hello, there are a couple of issues to address. Before doing anything else you must read WP:COI and WP:PAID and make the necessary declarations. The latter page is mandatory under Wikipedia's terms of use. The changes you made to Daniel Sachs were undone by one of Wikipedia's most experienced reviewers as they did not feel there was sufficient notability demonstrated. If you wish to create an article for your employer please go via WP:WIZ or WP:AfC and create a draft which can be submitted for review. Please do not edit the redirected page again. Some links and advice have been left at your talk page. Please study them carefully before proceeding. If you *do* start a draft you should disambiguate the title E.g. Irrespective of the claims of the Swedish businessman, I am dubious whether that redirect is required, since the name "Daniel Sachs" is nowhere mentioned in Demonology 101. I presume it is a character which was once mentioned in the article, but has been removed. The only suggestion so far is to redirect to Proventus. Don't worry about making mistakes when you start editing Wikipedia, just try to follow guidance once you are aware of it. Once the logo is actually updated, you can post a request at Talk:Saxo Bank. You will need to cite to a reliable source establishing that the bank has changed its logo. If you prefer, when the time comes you can leave a note at User talk:El cid, el campeador and I can take care of it. I removed your personal information because this is a highly visible page. I would also ask you to take a look at Wikipedia:COI - you have not violated these guidelines, but if you continue to edit WP regarding your employer, you may run into issues. "Search Wikipedia" box issues

Hello, I apologise if this is not the right place for this but I don't know where else to ask.

When I click on the Wikipedia search box (to search for an article, user, etc) a bunch of preselected words appear that I searched in the past in a dropdown menu. This is not coming from Wikipedia, rather I believe these words are saved by my browser or something (in a cache?) as they are my past searches. The issue is that I don't want people to see these, and anytime I click the box to make a search the list reappears. Does anyone know how I can stop or clear this? If it matters I'm on Chrome and this issue has happened across two devices.

Since you have a WP:COI, you should discuss this on the article's talk page at Talk:Yaacov Agam instead of making the edit yourself. If at all possible, cite a reliable source that makes this distinction. Otherwise, you may be able to argue that the existing sources show that your wording is more accurate than the existing wording. The current introduction seems fine. "Pioneering" is usually unnecessary puffery, "contributions" is usually better. Restore accessibility of article page that has been to redirected to less-relevant article

I spotted an unusual edit in Penjing a few days back, in which the content of a distantly related article was copied in whole to Penjing ([2]). Not necessarily a concern in itself, and something that can be sorted out by the maintainers of Penjing. But the original article, Bonkei, was simultaneously redirected to Penjing, making it inaccessible to its own maintainers. This is not a question about the proper content of Penjing, but about the Bonkei article that I would like to see in its original Wikipedia place with its original edit history.

Questions

[1] In what Wikipedia forum or process would the existence of the Bonkei article be defended and the redirect lifted?

[2] Once the redirect is lifted, does the hidden Bonkei page reappear with all its edit history and page stats, or do these records restart from empty?

[3] Is it expected or mandated that the maintainer who first implemented that redirect be involved in lifting it?

Sahara110 The history is still there at Bonkei, and it's still accessible. On September 11, HaussmannSaintLazare initiated a merge discussion at Talk:Penjing#proposal_to_merge_Bonkei_to_Penjing. Having received no opposition, on September 22, HaussmannSaintLazare completed the merge, leaving Bonkei as a redirect. [1] The continued existence of the Bonkei article can be defended and the redirect lifted by objecting to the merge, making the case for undoing it at Talk:Penjing#proposal_to_merge_Bonkei_to_Penjing. It sounds as though the Bonkei maintainers and users need not be involved.
[2] Clicking on the link you provided to Bonkei does not display the original page contents to me, instead popping up the Penjing article as compelled by the redirect on Bonkei's page address. I accept your assurance that everything Bonkei's still there or still somewhere it can be recovered from. But I'd like to read the Bonkei article and the last couple years of edit history to see what user or maintainer concerns may have been leading to this unexpected move. Is there a special code word, link, or incantation to see what you have seen - the original article contents and its edit history - that would work for a non-expert like me?
[3] If I'm understanding correctly, the original Penjing article editor who blocked access to the Bonkei article and edit history will be involved in the lifting the redirect because the discussion will take place in the Penjing "Talk" page. The WP principle I believe I'm being introduced to is that the original request to block access to the Bonkei article (and associated data) took place on the Penjing Talk page and therefore the discussion of regaining access to the original Bonkei article will have to take place there. The Penjing page editor who set up the redirect will know the discussion is taking place by virtue of its location on the Penjing Talk page. But the maintainers and users of the Bonkei page will not automagically be made aware of this discussion of the redirection, and the Bonkei Talk page will not host any part of the discussion. (The Bonkei Talk page may not even be visible to naive WP users like me.)
If anyone knows how I can review the now-hidden Bonkei page and associated information (mentioned under point [2]), I would love to try it.
I feel like I should restore the Bonkei page to WP, but I'm not sure I have standing (within WP or its social community) to influence the hard-working maintainers over at Penjing to participate. Nevertheless, thank you for the insights in your reply.

@Sahara110: Access the Bonkei page: this will get you to the Penjing page and will put a line "redirected from the Bonkei" page" at the top of the article. Click on that link. Hermann von Siemens

In the 4th para of the article about Siemens, it states that despite being charged with war crimes, "no prosecution was filed, as there were no personal misdeeds (is this an appropriate term?) traceable." He was the head of a company in Nazi Germany which profited from slave labour from 8 (eight) concentration camps - at least 50 000 people, in the 'death through work' programme. He bought many Jewish companies which the Nazis forced their Jewish owners to sell at knock down prices. He was also a personal friend of Heinrich Himmler and part of his inner circle. The reason why charges were not brought against Hermann von Siemens was much more to do with the importance of the company to counter the perceived threat from the Soviet Union post-war. He was like so many other top industrialists, scientists and military personnel in Nazi Germany, who were protected by the Allies, especially the Americans. This may be unpalatable but it is the case. I'm not suggesting this is put in such bald terms but surely his culpability should be alluded to in some way. The award business

Think of an area within what are loosely termed the arts, and chances are that hopeful drafts for articles on rather obscure exponents of this area will mention receipt of various and often grandly named awards. Investigate these awards, and you find that for a lot of them, entry costs quite a bit, there are many categories, there are many winners, and the only people who seem to mention the awards are the winners, on their CVs. The winning stuff isn't bad (if you like the particular genre), but arguably these are mere vanity awards. Do we have a guideline somewhere about excluding vanity awards from lists of awards in biographical articles, and about how/where to draw the line between legit and vanity awards? -- Hoary (talk) 22:36, 13 October 2020 (UTC), slightly rephrased 02:07, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Hoary: I'm not sure where we would put such a guideline. I'm tempted to propose that we should not list a non-notable award (i.e., an award that does not have an article). We do require that only notable awards contribute to notability (see WP:NARTIST WP:ANYBIO), but that's not the same as saying that they should not be in the article. Side issue: the vanity award article does not appear to have an "artistic" section, but as you say, the field is rife with them. -Arch dude (talk) 04:01, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sometimes, Arch dude, I too think that we shouldn't bother to mention an award that doesn't get an article, but then I see mentions of awards that lack articles but that I know (OR!) are nevertheless widely recognized indicators of remarkable achievement. (One problem is that if articles about awards must strictly accord with notability guidelines, they're almost impossible to create. From the newspaper/magazine coverage of each year's winners, it's clear -- to a thinking human, if not to a Wikipedia-guideline-trained robot -- that the awards are notable, but these news articles say next to nothing about the awards themselves.) One difference that's obvious to me is that the awards I'm sure are notable typically have just one or two winners per year, whereas the dodgy ones have twelve or more, what with their subcategories, their silvers and bronzes, and so forth. (I've even encountered listings in en:WP bio articles of awards that turned out to be distributed by the dozen every month.) I've a hunch that somewhere in the jungle of project pages lurks a carefully honed recipe of how to judge this sort of thing. An editor has, I'd guess innocently, added a "reference" to a page that obnoxiously throws up congratulatory crap to whoever arrives there. (I closed the particular browser and wiped out its cache and data: no harm done.) Well, conceivably the particular website has only temporarily been taken over by lowlifes, so I hesitate before adding it to the spam blacklist. (Plus nobody has spammed it.)
