Donation requests

Hi there, I already donate on on a monthly basis to Wikipedia, however I am constantly HOUNDED by your site bots to donate further. Can you rectify this so as it doesnt continue? I feel like cancelling my subscribed donations and ceasing use of the site, and I dont want that. The "bots" have no way to know that the person sitting at the computer using a particular IP address at any given moment donates money. If you create an account and log in, you can disable those messages. 331dot (talk) 01:02, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Zoe Saldana Signature

Hi,

Reaching out in connection with Zoe Saldana's signature on her page. We are her attorneys and she has asked us to have her signature removed. I've nominated the file for deletion and have contributed to the poll on her page's "Talk." It seems we've reached a consensus and there isn't strong opposition to deletion of the file. How do we move forward from here?

Misinformation involving Marvel Cenamatic Universe

I was reviewing some information involving the First Marvel Movie.

Your wikipedia post says iron man (2008) was the first marvel movie but there is no mention of Blade Trinity (2004). To the best of my knowledge, Blade Trinity was the first Marvel movie.

While it is not officially part of the MCU phases, it should still be listed in the encyclopedia

Well, ... @Johndavidmusic: I am not an admin, so I cant read deleted pages, but I get the sllight feeling that I need to Inform you about a few things. First, please be aware that the Term "Wiki" refers to certain open-editable Websites, including, but not limited to, The english Wikipedia, which is a particular Wiki. Second, please be aware that nobody "owns" a Wikipedia article. Third, since you attempted to write about yourself, please be aware that autobiographys are strongely discouraged and that there may be good reasons why one would rather not have a Wikipedia article. I take it that of the two living John Davids on Wikipedia the one you are trying to distinguish yourself from is the one referred to as "John David (musician)" who is from Wales. If there is something in that article that suggests he is you or vice versa (such as you wrote "Red Sky" ,) you should raise the confusion on the talk page to that article setting out the problem. If there is nothing in that article that causes any confusion (for instance if you are a classical violinist from Belfast concentrating on JS Bach) I do not think this is a Wikipedia problem.Spinney Hill (talk) 08:45, 9 October 2020 (UTC).

Orangemike has blocked Johndavidmusic for advertising himself and anyway having a promotional username. Whatever the editor's actual name and profession, "Johndavidmusic" seems innocuous to me (it's not a band or company name; it's not clear that he intends to edit an article about a John David other than himself, etc etc). Creating the draft of an article about oneself in one's own sandbox is usually not a good idea (and often a really bad one), but I don't think it merits a block, particularly if, as here, the draft had a lifespan of just sixty minutes and no promotional phrasing. Johndavidmusic seems to have a mistaken idea of what Wikipedia is, but it's one that's widespread and I see no reason not to assume good faith. I'd urge Orangemike to unblock him. In the most fully developed version of the draft (in userspace) for an article on this John David, I see a soberly constructed biographical infobox, no more. By self-promotion, Orangemike, do you mean having the temerity to start to construct an article about oneself? If so, I'm surprised: I hadn't realized that this was a blockable offence. I'd have started by warning him gently to knock it off (providing or linking to the regular arguments) and also perhaps suggesting that I might delete it. And maybe I'd have suggested a change of username too -- though as the username isn't (say) Johndavidvirtuosogenius to match johndavidvirtuosogenius.biz, it still seems innocuous to me. Applying Manual of Style to redirect pages

Hi, Guild of Copy Editors here – I've just come across a few hard redirect pages that, if they were articles, would have italics in their titles.

Should I be applying MoS guidelines even to redirects, which have such low pageviews, or am I supposed to leave them as is?

• In my opinion, the MoS applies to articles, and redirects are not articles. I see the pageviews as irrelevant. However, on the target pages, you should apply whatever the MoS says about styling of the text (if not already done).

Disambiguation pages where all entries are/should be italicised, like this one, would be a more tricky matter, for which I do not really have an answer. Tigraan^{Click here to contact me} 13:56, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Adding the same link to an external site to several articles without using it legitimately as a reference is called "link spamming". Such additions will be aggressively reverted and will cause increased scrutiny of the use of the link even in references. See WP:LINKSPAM. -Arch dude (talk) 17:43, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

What links here - Shew redirects only

It used to be trivially easy to shew only the redirects to a title, but in an improvement to Wikipedia we now have to jump through hoops to find them. I cannot remember which hoops to jump through. Can anyone? Thanks, DuncanHill (talk) 19:27, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Any ideas for formatting this map?

List of World Heritage Sites in Sweden is at FLC right now and myself and other users have expressed concern over the formatting of the list, in that the map creates a huge white space. No one, including the nominator, is sure how to resolve or at least better this issue – any ideas would be appreciated. Aza24 (talk) 20:40, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Getting rid of the huge white space is easy – just delete the {{clear}} template. But then the table is made narrower and its sixth column becomes hard to read. I've moved the {{clear}} down to immediately above the table, but I'm not convinced it's an improvement. Maproom (talk) 07:42, 10 October 2020 (UTC)

Suggesting a keep be merged away?

Can someone tell me whether it is acceptable for an article (Four Guns) that's recent AfD discussion resulted in keep be suggested for a merge one day after the keep result? I see a keep shouldn't be renominated for six months, but what about a merge? The closing admin edited the closing note at the behest of one of the few "delete" voters who wants the article not to exist. It seems funky that the close note can be edited after a regular keep vote (when people may stop watching the article and its deletion page, thinking it is fine for now) with a note that a merge still may happen and also funky that someone attempt that merge be started without pinging those involved in the AfD (someone else pinged me or I'd have missed this). Is there any policy about these things that I could point out in the discussion to better educate myself and others on this topic? Thanks. --DiamondRemley39 (talk) 21:15, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Reliable sources say she's African American and WP repeats what reliable sources say. Taking a wild guess, her father is probably considered to have African ancestry, and there you have it. Hi i wanted to use an image I found on your site as a logo for a sweatshirt. I am trying to buy a personalized sweater with the photo. It's a photo of the logo of my school name. If you click on the image, it will say what the license is. Based on your description, Wikipedia is probably using it under a claim of "fair use" and so you will need to contact the holder of the copyright for permission. On the otherhand, if it is licensed freely, then you just need to comply with the license to use it. RudolfRed (talk) 22:35, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Hello, IP user. We probably can't help you, I'm afraid. Most images are licensed in such a way that you can reuse them as long as you attribute the source; but logos are not usually licensed in this way, but are used under fair use. If it is one of those, then nobody at Wikipedia has the power to give you permission, and you need to contact the copyright holder. Click on the image to look at its description page, and that will tell you the copyright status. --ColinFine (talk) 22:35, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

I would recommend getting the logo from an official source, even if it does show a free license here or on Commons. Unfortunately, copyrighted (and non-freely-licensed) images are routinely uploaded by people who misunderstand copyrights (or don't care); it takes some time for them to be found and deleted. The correct solution is to get the image and proper license from the school itself (assuming they are the copyright holder – they can tell you what to do regardless). If the site meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability, then somebody could create an article about it, based almost entirely on what people who have no connection with it have chosen to publish about it. (Nothing that comes from the site itself or the people or organisations who control it will contribute to this notability). If it does not meet the criteria, then Wikipedia will not accept an article about it, and any attempt to write one will be a waste of time and effort. --ColinFine (talk) 22:57, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
