editFormatting Problems
editMy about me page has a big problem with the formatting where the words and headings just go off to the side. If somebody knows the problem or knows how to fix it could you please help me? Cherrell410 (talk) 02:21, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Cherrell410: This has to do with where the userboxes are placed and how they interact with elements after them. I boldly went ahead and added {{clear}}, which should solve your problem —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 03:40, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
Citations
editHi there. I really enjoy working on the "suggested edits" tasks. Very often, I get requested to add citations to an article. Very often I get articles come up with no citations, and there are no proper sources to include. An example is Fethiye Mosque (Ioannina). Googling this shows many photos so obviously the place exists. It is on Google maps also. If there are no sources, I feel like I have the following options: 1. Refer to AFD 2. Ignore and move on However, the article then remains permanently tagged. I do not feel it necessary to refer to AFD, I know that an article being harmless and potentially useful isn't an argument for inclusion. However there must be thousands of articles like this, they are about something on gut instinct we know is real and not spurious or nonsense, yet not verifiable. I do not want to clog up AFD, nor do I want to leave the citation template on there indefinitely. Can I just "ignore all rules" and go by common sense, which is to remove the template and leave the article there? Otherwise it will be forever tagged with this template and come up in suggested edits. It's annoying because the same articles keep being suggested to me. Thanks so much - Such-change47 (talk) 02:55, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hello, Such-change47. When I carry out a Google Books search for "Fethiye Mosque Ioannina", I see quite a few hits that seem to be reliable sources at first glance. Have you evaluated those? Cullen328 (talk) 03:22, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- How about this article in an academic journal that I found in seconds on Google Scholar? Cullen328 (talk) 03:26, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- I never found that one! Thanks heaps. What would I do in a situation where I otherwise could not find a citation? Thanks. Such-change47 (talk) 03:42, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Such-change47, are you using Suggested edits on the Homepage tab? Select different topics if you are seeing the same articles over and over again. Or look at Wikipedia:Contribution Team/Backlogs or one of the 4 hundred thousand articles linked there as "needing more references". Since you aren't very experienced in finding references in some areas, just move on to another article. It doesn't matter if an article is tagged for a long time. - @Such-change47: I'm not familiar with the suggested edits - what is the link? Have you checked out the Helpout section on Wikipedia:Community portal? It might have more options than what you're seeing. And thanks for helping improve the encyclopedia. Like life, some things are never resolved, but we still get better on the whole. - Apparently OP is referring to an Android Wikipedia app feature; see Wikipedia:Suggested edits. - R. S. Shaw (talk) 19:24, 5 May 2022 (UTC)

User groups
editIn my preferences, one of the user groups it says I'm in is "Named users". Does anyone know what that is? Toad40 (talk) 13:48, 5 May 2022 (UTC)

Review of article
editI want to get my article reviewed. It's a stub-class article and I have added a lot of new information. So I want that someone please review my article and grow it's level or tell me it's mistakes. My article name is Mothparja. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FAAHS (talk • contribs) 13:49, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- Mothparja is the article in question. @FAAHS I've read through it and fixed a lot of spelling and grammatical issues. The biggest problem with the article right now is sourcing. You have a lot of content in the article which is totally unsourced, and some other content for which you are using sources that are not reliable. I've added {{citation needed}} and {{unreliable source}} tags to some of them. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 14:20, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
Reg - Movie page creation
editHi Team,
I have to add/include upcomming movie as a (movie page) in Wikipedia, kindly assist me the steps so that it will be helpfull. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Devan Mohan (talk • contribs) 18:37, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- Devan Mohan Why do you "have" to do this? If you are responsible for marketing the film, please read conflict of interest and paid editing. Writing a new article(not a "page") is the hardest thing to do on Wikipedia, and it's even harder when one is associated with the topic. We usually recommend that you first gain experience and knowledge by editing existing articles, and using the new user tutorial. Unreleased films typically do not merit articles, please see the notability guidelines for films. If there is significant coverage of the film in independent reliable sources (beyond casting or other announcements) please go to WP:AFC to create and submit a draft. 331dot (talk) 18:50, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- If you are a marketing or PR person, see WP:PRPEOPLE - R. S. Shaw (talk) 19:53, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- If the movie is "upcoming", you should wait until it's been released, and (we hope) reviewed in reliable published sources. As far as Wikipedia is concerned, there is certainly no "have to" about creating an article about something that doesn't exist yet. Maproom (talk) 20:35, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- That's not quite true. High-profile movies in production can (and do) get articles before they are released. Whether that's the case here is another story. Clarityfiend (talk) 22:17, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
