BloombergQuint in Now BQ Prime - How to Change Wikipedia entry

edit

Hi,

We have rebranded ourselves from Bloomberquint.com to bqprime.com. We wanted to understand how the rebranding on wikipedia works. We came across a similar example where Tata Sky rebranded to Tata PLay. Tata Play seems to have created a new wikipedia entry and added a redirect to its wikipedia Tata sky page which brings it back to Tata Play.

We wanted to do the same exercise but we dont have the expertise in Wiki entry hence wanted to check if any credible editor will help us create a new brand wiki page and then do the redirection from bloombergquint wiki to bqprime wiki, this is the announcement here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oX4ruJmnSZE

Do let us know how we can proceed and what requirements are there to get this initiated.

BQ Prime, Wikipedia doesn't "rebrand" anything. It does retitle ("move") articles, when appropriate. So, you want to "create a new brand wiki page" about your company (with help from others). Simply, no. Companies don't write about themselves on Wikipedia. You are welcome, however, to make suggestions for the article on Talk:BloombergQuint. -- Hoary (talk) 11:59, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
ok understood, so we cannot do it from our side. Then how does it happen? who creates new brand page when someone goes through a domain migration.
Our objective is to have a wikipedia page for BQ Prime or make changes to existing Bloombergquint page to reflect it as BQPrime. We are completely ok if we are not the ones doing it, we want to understand who does it or how can one do it without any conflict of interest or making the words sound advertorial. @BQ Prime: Please make edit requests on Talk:BloombergQuint. Keep in mind that your username contravenes Wikipedia's username policy, so expect this account to be softblocked sometime soon (a username like Bob at BQ Prime may be used for one person). —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 12:52, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have already requested for a name change, its stating pending approval BQ Prime (talk) 12:55, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@DragonX123: Now the article has been moved, the Help Desk or Teahouse are not really the best venues to discuss further changes. You should add {{edit request}}s to its Talk Page at Talk:BQ_Prime and those editors who are interested will review them and make changes (or not) in line with policy and guidelines. I note that the article currently has no logo, so that explains the Google result. You can read WP:LOGO to see what needs to be done in that respect. Template Help

edit

I'm not a template editor, but I have found a template that has an error in it. However, I can't fix it because I don't have any experience editing templates. Is there a way to contact a template editor to fix the template? Toad40 (talk) 15:56, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is what {{template protected edit request}} is for, @Toad40 casualdejekyll 15:58, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Toad40 (talk) 15:59, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've responded on the template talk page, the issue was that changes to the template were reverted but the changes to the documentation weren't reverted at the same time. 163.1.15.238 (talk) 16:35, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Did we have this page?

edit

I have been listening to a heavy metal band, Burning Witches, and noticed that there is no article about them. So I checked if I could find sources to establish notability and write an article, and found this article. Unfortunately the license is not compatible and can't be brought here, but... it looks suspiciously similar to a wikipedia article, format and all, uses photos available in Commons, and even mentions Wikipedia at the end. Is it possible that we had such a page in the past, and then delete it for some reason? If I click on the redlink Burning Witches there is no log of deleted pages, but perhaps it was located elsewhere? Cambalachero (talk) 18:53, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If I had to guess the authors of second.wiki did a translation of de:Burning Witches. * Pppery * it has begun... 18:58, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah. There aren't any likely-looking edits on enwiki, live or deleted, with the timestamp in the "last edited" line at the bottom of that page. —Cryptic 19:08, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
What if I make my own translation, then? I may add the approriate templates that the page was translated from a page with a valid license (de.wiki), but it may look very similar to that share-alike page. Would it be acceptable, or a copyright violation? Cambalachero (talk) 01:24, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Cambalachero, that would be perfectly acceptable - see Help:Translation if you haven't already. Your translation would be your own work and not a copyright violation of that other site in any way. 97.126.106.3 (talk) 12:45, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) As far as I know, if you faithfully render the German WP page in your own words and place the template {{translated page}} on the talk page, that should be enough. I would avoid referring to the translated page until you have completed your own version. If it turns out to be similar (unavoidable in many cases), you might render certain passages somewhat differently from the second.wiki version. English sentences such as "On February 14, 2018, Nuclear Blast played known to have signed the band." are obviously faulty. You should also be aware that the referencing criteria on en:wp tends to be stricter than on other WPs, and I would attempt to add some further refs where possible. MinorProphet (talk) 13:04, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Cambalachero, I would recommend checking that the band meets English Wikipedia's notability guidelines first, as an article about a non-notable subject is likely to be deleted. TSventon (talk) 17:21, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

An IP editor wants to control Edlington

edit

Please see their Talk page for context. This new editor and dynamic IP wishes to include in Edlington a tale of the first Viscount Molesworth's dog and his undying love for the animal. The viscount's article makes no mention of it. Their parting shot was "wikipedia should be a straightforward purveyor of truth. If you think that deleteing content is OK then then you think that you control what can be the truth". They clearly don't get what WP is about, other than a vehicle for promoting a greyhound which happens to be the symbol of the "Edlo School", a school they attended as a boy.

They claim that they attended "Edlo School", of which neither Wikipedia nor Google has any mention. It would be helpful if a user with a bit of authority about them would place a note on their Talk page, as they are either a troll or very stubborn indeed.--Quisqualis (talk) 21:15, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Quisqualis, I would say the next time the user reverts (assuming the warnings are not heeded), head to AIV. Sungodtemple (talk) 02:58, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
