First, demonstrate that you can make a few dozen constructive edits to existing articles, edits described honestly in the edit summaries. OJ Simpson cases

I want to add text to the Wiki page describing members of the OJ Simpson "Dream Team" to correct some incomplete and inaccurate information. Below is my recommended addition/change to the information regarding myself:

KUSI San Diego

KUSI is inaccurately represented by Wikipedia. It is a right wing station - one that I would call a propaganda station fans one that spreads conspiracy theories. I engaged the station’s personnel and quite frankly, they are scary and spreading lies and conspiracy I am happy to share the emails I was sent please adequately represented what the station is while it may be private owned, it is a right wing propaganda machine I hope you will look into this best regards, Jeanette Howard 68.6.230.171 (talk) 06:34, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

This isn't really a help desk question. It might be more on topic at Talk:KUSI-TV, but the article is based on what secondary reliable sources say about the station rather than personal experience.--♦IanMacM♦ ^{(talk to me)} 07:13, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

For "rather than personal experience" above, read "and not personal experience". But if you can find (what Wikipedia calls) reliable sources for the station's classification as one or more among "a right wing station", "a spreader of conspiracy theories" and a "right wing propaganda machine", then, on Talk:KUSI-TV, feel free to point to these sources and suggest rewording accordingly. Referencing errors on Yiliang Ding

Zizhudiaodiao, I see that you've been misled by the statement "This biography of a living person needs additional citations for verification.". This is a commonn problem, that message is badly written. What the draft needs is not more references, it's better references. You need to cite at least three sources each of which simultaneously (1) is reliable, (2) is independent of the subject, (3) has been published, and (4) has extensive discussion of the subject. (2) and (4) are the difficult ones here. I've looked at the first five sources you've cited: the first four all fail on "independent", and the third fourth and fifth all lack any discussion of him. How to reuqest a new article on Wikipedia Request Article pages without hyperlinking to a disambiguation page on source code?

There's this Singaporean Adult Animated TV Show on called Downstairs. I wanna request it but when I type out the series name, the Wikipedia editing thing automatically turns it into a disambiguation page of "Downstairs". (edit conflict) You'll need to choose a unique name for the article you want to create, something like "Downstairs (adult TV show)"; and then link the existing disambiguation to that. Alternatively, you can create your article as a draft and submit it for review. Then if/when a reviewer accepts it, it'll be their job to sort out the article name. Imbluey2, there's little or no point in requesting an article. The last time I looked, "requests" were long lists of article subjects, many of them by people who seem to think that articles grow on trees (but without nutrients, etc), many of them by people who want to celebrate their relatives, employers, companies or of course selves, and a few of them by people who seem to nurse grudges that they want to settle. Forget "requesting". Follow Maproom's advice. Incidentally, the first ideas (of lubricity) that come to my head when I think of "adult TV" aren't compatible with the first ideas (of wholesomeness) that come to my head when I think of Singapore. So I recommend Downstairs (television show) or similar, not "Downstairs (adult TV show)". -- Hoary (talk) 02:45, 11 August 2023 (UTC)

I requested the article because I don't think I'm good at writing articles and the process of writing an article (which I imagine to be) is time-consuming. There's probably some feature on the Wikiprojects thing where you create the article and then others edit but non-Wikiproject users can't see it? Is there such a feature like that? Also, you're right about my diction for referring to Downstairs. Even though adult animation is a term used to refer cartoons with mature themes and situations, the term "adult animations" does have lubricous connotations behind it which is not the first thing you would think of when it comes to Singapore so my bad. Imbluey2, Wikipedia welcomes editors, or potential editors, who realize that writing an article takes time. So just ... take your time. (There are also a very few editors who somehow manage to churn out excellent articles quickly: example. This ability utterly baffles me.) Drafts and articles that have been "deleted" (for violating copyright, for potential libel, or for some other variety of worthlessness) are visible to a very small percentage of editors; but these aside, an article or draft that's visible to any one editor is also visible to any editor, so the feature you imagine exists does not exist. Remember that a good article rarely starts fully fledged: as long as the initial version is an honest piece of work, based on sound sources and not breaking rules (no plagiarism, no libel, no fantasy) that should be obvious, it's welcome. Importing from Geograph

Is there a set of instructions on copying a cc-by-sa Geograph photo to Commons? I was hoping there would be a wizard that could do this but I've drawn a blank. Shantavira|^{feed me} 14:13, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

shantavira - Although Geograph does have a wizard which fills in much of the data and is fabulous, when it works. It can be a bit temperamental. Just click on the image, then click “reuse” and you’ll find the template for transferring to the Wiki at the bottom. KJP1 (talk) 16:57, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

Thank you. I did that, clicked "upload file", and nothing happened. Commons help desk was unable to help, which is surprising as I thought Wikipedia editors were grabbing stuff from Geograph all the time. Shantavira|^{feed me} 08:54, 11 August 2023 (UTC)

@Shantavira: You can always just use Commons' upload wizard. Click on "Upload file" in the left-hand sidebar on any Commons page, and follow the simple directions. (Have the image you want to upload open in a separate tab so that you can copy/paste the URL.) I've done this with some Geograph images. Deor (talk) 14:49, 11 August 2023 (UTC)

What to do about an article of uncertain notability?

I have stumbled across an article that seems to be largely self-promotional in nature. There are one or two newspaper articles on the topic from almost a decade ago. I think it is probably not notable. Should I move directly to nominate it for deletion, or is there some template I can use to question the article's notability? • Solemn1 (talk) 15:33, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

The template {{Notability}} should do the trick. You can tag the article or, if you are so inclined, nominate it for deletion at WP:AFD. --Jayron32 15:43, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

Can names be copyrighted?

I was watching a video about the "Tube Bar Prank Calls" and wanted to add more to the page.

These were obviously recorded and spread around for a long time.

I was wondering before I add some more names to the page:

A. Can we make a table stating the gag name and what it is meant to mean?

B. Can a name, prank or otherwise, be copyrighted?

• The answer to A is: Only if you have a reliable source you can cite that has such names already listed. The answer to B. is no. A single word or phrase is too short of an expression to be copyrightable. See here "The copyright office specifically states that names are not covered by copyright law" and "In fact, the copyright office has a long list of things that are not covered by copyright. This list includes recipes, domain names, titles, slogans, short phrases, ideas and sightings." (bold mine). --Jayron32 17:52, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

  True, trademarks only apply to Branding, which is to say it only means that people cannot market a product or service using the same word, phrase, or mark as an entity already using that word, phrase, or mark. It's irrelevant here. --Jayron32 12:20, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
