According to the help link, {{Cite book}} does not support the work= parameter. If you remove that the error should go away. RudolfRed (talk) 02:29, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I tried, but no good. Please help. Thank you. 1.145.210.146 (talk) 03:41, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
"But no good" is ... no good. Try harder. If "George Edward Cokayne" is a chapter, or something akin to a chapter, within a book whose title is "Complete Baronetage, Volume 1" (and yes, let's ignore for a moment the question of whether "Volume 1" is rightly part of the title), then change what is now title=George Edward Cokayne |work=Complete Baronetage, Volume 1 to chapter=George Edward Cokayne |title=Complete Baronetage, Volume 1. If this doesn't work, then what, precisely, is the lingering problem? (And if "George Edward Cokayne" is not akin to a chapter title, then please explain.) -- Hoary (talk) 05:55, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Where?

edit

Where can I find a place to talk only about Italian topics? JackkBrown (talk) 09:12, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Beyond WT:WikiProject Italy (which I see you've already posted at), I don't know of anywhere. ColinFine (talk) 09:34, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Italian WP, perhaps. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:20, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Gråbergs Gråa Sång, perhaps not. -- Hoary (talk) 11:39, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's a very great pity

edit

It's a very great pity that many Italian singers and entertainers don't have complete pages (some even have fifteen or twenty lines); en.wiki is missing out on a lot of quality music, which is sad. JackkBrown (talk) 11:01, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps Berlusconi gave "Italian singers and entertainers" a bad name. NB this page is for requests for help; it's not for laments. -- Hoary (talk) 11:34, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Hoary: what does Berlusconi have to do with it? JackkBrown (talk) 11:46, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This. -- Hoary (talk) 12:00, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Hoary: I can assure you that he has nothing to do with it, since he was never a real musician and singer, and, moreover, his past "activity" as a singer and musician isn't known to non-Italian people. JackkBrown (talk) 12:17, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, JackkBrown, it is a very great pity. The reason for it is that Wikipedia is entirely written by voluneers (ignoring the old, out-of-copyright reference texts like the 1911 Encyclopaedia Britannica that were used to lay the foundations 20+ years ago), none of those volunteers have yet chosen to write English-language articles about all those missing Italian artists, and no-one has the authority to compel any volunteer to do so.
The only remedy is for people who want those articles to exist to start creating them themselves. Since you yourself have an interest in this, you yourself are an ideal person to help.
Note that you don't necessarily have to create an article – a quite difficult task – entirely on your own. If you were to choose a particular subject, find sufficient Reliable sources that between them demonstrate the subject's Notability and contain sufficient material on which to base an article, and provide links or good bibliographical information to/for those sources, it's likely that a more experienced article writer will be willing to help.
You could add the subject and source details to WP:Requested articles – the overall takeup rate there is unfortunately low, but listing some good sources in the request greatly increases the likelihood of someone taking up the challenge.
Or you could begin a draft using the process at WP:Your first article, list all the sources on its Talk page (and keep adding more as you find them), and head the Talk page with an explicit invitation to collaborators (since otherwise potential collaborators might not want to 'tread on your turf'). Hope this helps. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 51.198.140.169 (talk) 19:28, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The "Infobox artist" template has an error showing the character's gender when it displays the wrong gender compared to the article topic, but it can't be fixed because the information box has no place to edit the gender. I'm trying to edit some of these faulty posts, anyone with knowledge on this can help me? Phong Dang (talk) 09:46, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Can you give an example of an article with the problem? As you say, there's nowhere in the infobox definition to specify a gender, and cases I have looked at do not display a gender. ColinFine (talk) 10:38, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ColinFine Yeah. "Template:Infobox artist" has no place to display gender but it automatically shows up when I use it on Vietnamese Wikipedia, I have replaced this template with a Template:Infobox artist created on Vietnamese Wikipedia itself but This error still occurs. Here. Is there any way to fix this error?. Phong Dang (talk) 08:38, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@P. ĐĂNG: This is a help page for the English Wikipedia. Templates are local. The Vietnamese Wikipedia does not and cannot use Template:Infobox artist. It uses vi:Bản mẫu:Thông tin nghệ sĩ which has different code. I don't know Vietnamese but the template uses a subtemplate vi:Bản mẫu:Thông tin nghệ sĩ/nguồn which pulls the gender from the Wikidata item (Q59847373). Look for a Wikidata link in the menus on article pages. The template doesn't appear to have an option to override or omit a gender at Wikidata but you can change it at Wikidata. PrimeHunter (talk) 09:05, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter Oh i get it. I have edited and will help Vietnamese Wikipedia fix some of the pages with this error. Thanks a lot. Have a good day!!. Phong Dang (talk) 09:15, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Where Might I Ask For Writing Help?

edit

This could be a simple query to answer, but I'm not sure where best to look or ask for this. I desire to revisit the 1924 United States presidential election that I had worked out in the far past, and I can dig up plenty of information rather easily with key points, but I have not been effectively able to formulate that information into something proper for the article. Is there are place where I can find prospective writers for said article? In the past I would inquire WikiProject United States presidential elections, but that is largely dead now it seems. --Ariostos (talk) 16:42, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

User:Ariostos, indeed it can be difficult anymore to find WikiProjects that still engage many active editors. Sometimes you can try "one level up" (which in this case might be Wikipedia:WikiProject United States or Wikipedia:WikiProject Elections and Referendums or Wikipedia:WikiProject History).
Another editor here may have a better suggestion, but since there are multiple options for WikiProjects to attempt to engage, it might be best just to start a topic at Talk:1924 United States presidential election, list your sources and/or which points in the article you'd be able to elaborate on with the assistance of a willing collaborator, and leave a brief notification linking that thread on the talk pages of the WikiProjects (including the dead one you listed; it still has 72 page watchers, although who knows how many are still active in the space). You could also directly ping to the discussion recent active contributors to 1924 United States presidential election, and see if any of them are interested in expanding the article. There appear to be at least two editors who have made content edits to that article during 2023.
A further option could be to add to the article any specific key points you have sources for that feel most important to address without worrying about organising them particularly well. You could add relevant quotes from your sources into the citation templates so others can restructure, reorganise, or reword them later without your assistance. This might reduce the barrier to entry for anyone who feels more attuned with the skill of organising information and takes an interest to the article.
Again, I'm hoping someone has a better suggestion of a venue or process to help with your question. My content work is also in niche historical areas, I struggle with organising information coherently, and I usually work on articles without significant simultaneous collaboration, so I'm largely in the same boat as you when it comes to expanding articles. Sometimes I just leave an intent on the rear heating element for a few months until I get around to it. All the best, Folly Mox (talk) 17:34, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
